Why was this woman arrested like this!?! Her poor child!

According to other Tweeters, she had paid her bus fare BTW.

Just one point if I may.. put aside the black lady and this particular situation here.

Some posters have said things along the lines of it’s ridiculous to get arrested for a couple of quid bus ticket. Why did the police have to arrest this woman…

If someone stole a £4 bottle of wine from a supermarket, the police could be called and the person could be arrested for shop lifting. If they resisted, they could be thrown on the floor and man handled. I’ve seen this happen.

So my point is if a shop lifter can be arrested for a petit theft, why wouldn’t someone be arrested for not paying for a travel ticket ?

Again, I’m generalising here, I’m just curious. Putting aside this particular case.

I do see the police at train stations quite frequently at the barriers stopping people from leaving the station until they’ve shown their ticket.

LadyWithLapdog · 30/07/2023 21:36

Well, Paul, throwing someone on the floor for a £2 ticket or £4 bottle is still fucking disproportionate. Get a grip. It’s not USA or Singapore or some other police heavy country.

I have been very shocked and upset by this thread although as a white woman, I recognise my feelings are not what's important here. I reported a lot of posts earlier on in the thread as racist and a lot were deleted.
For me this is the first time really recognising the level of racism on the feminist threads on mumsnet. I'm really sorry that black posters have had to endure this. It is truly awful.
As PP says it makes me question who exactly is posting on here and what their agenda is.

I did a quick search on the first three deleted posts.

One has one other post on the whole of mumsnet. The other two, nothing.

Those that berate the 'feminist section', those horrid far right feminists - you do know that many of the people who post on here to make 'feminists' look bad, are people who want to make feminists look bad right?

I am not sure how else to explain it, but your one post makes you as much a part of 'mumsnet feminist' section as the people you reported.

Exactly! The way some posters carry on you'd think the feminist section was host to some sort of Daily Mail fan club, oh wait Shock

Are you saying that posters on here have to only post from an approved list of publications? Do you have this list available and did you write it all on your own?

DojaPhat · 30/07/2023 22:26

I remember checking if it was possible to hide entire sections and associated posters after some disgruntled feminists could not for the life of them work out why they can't become Black women but men can become women. The 'feminists' don't need any external help to look horrid but at least they can now be far right in peace, the tories apparently know what a woman is and that's enough for them, the sheer relief must feel like when you get into a freshly changed bed after an exhausting day.

The 'feminists' who randomly post and get deleted are probably just bored and wanting to shit stir, I grant you that. But spend enough time reading the threads to see discourse and you'll pretty soon realise the 'feminists' are exactly what you have purported them to be, and increasingly proudly so.

Grin If I could copy and paste my post upthread r.e. argument style and rhetoric this would have been perfect!!! 'Are you saying people should also have their thoughts policed!???' This place is perfect!

Yes it is possible, there are loads of threads for those who have problems with simple instructions on how to hide topics.

Perhaps go do that now to save yourself the trauma.

It has come up time and time again for years how many racist posts there have been on the feminist boards. It’s not limited to just the odd thread and a few first time posters. Why are you so keen to decide it’s not an issue when so many of us have agreed it is?

Paul2023 · 31/07/2023 00:07

Apparently the police body cam footage will be released soon, I’ve read on another forum
a transport one.

TERFinTheHouse · 31/07/2023 00:11

I just want to say thank you to all the posters who shared their own personal experiences in this thread. It has helped me to see the bigger picture on this issue.

I believe you. I'm sorry that some people have been ignorant to your experiences.

My point quite clearly is that anyone can post.

And people that want a feminist forum to look bad, can easily post on a feminist forum to look bad. It doesn't mean that the regular users of that forum are bad.

Those people can come on here for years and make people look bad.

Many of them post on here for years and years and monitor and report us, just so that they can say 'look how many posts have been reported, they must be bad.

It isn't a membership club.

BringItOnxxx · 31/07/2023 07:41

Police in the wrong. Arrest for possible fare evasion? Obscene. What if she couldn’t afford the bus? Arrest all poor people eh? Is we back in Victorian times?

It doesn't really matter what is on the bodycam footage. Black people, through their lived experience, recognise a wide range of situations that could have led to the woman's behaviour and reaction. Some white vocal people , especially some white feminists on this forum would like to tell us our experiences with racism do not happen or are irrelevant and that might mean we act or perceive sutuations differently to them. Those white women/feminists can recognise the forms of sexism and misogyny, overt and covert but would like tell us that racism and misogynoir, does not exist, or at if it does they are the best people to define it.

Hiding behind anyone can post is a week argument. This goes far beyond a few rogue posters

You are either part of the problem, or part of the solution...

The bigger picture that is.

TERFinTheHouse · 31/07/2023 07:56

@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting

Presuming you're referencing my "bigger picture" comment?

The bigger picture here is that this event was unlikely to have been an isolated one for this woman. As a black woman, she likely experiences racist micro aggressions frequently. Additionally, she may fear the police/ authorities due to these organizations' track record with ethnic minorities.

Therefore, there are various factors that led up to this situation. It's far more complex than just "why didn't she show her travel card?!?".

What am I reaching for exactly?

If you are reading racist posts and letting them go, then are you not part of the problem?

If you are reading and not engaging with anything then are you not part of the problem?

The whole reason this section is gamed, by men who pose as women to make women look bad, and to screenshot their posts, and deleted posts to post on other forums to make women look bad, is because they want to shut the whole of mumsnet down.

People who stand by watching and then pointing fingers at those who engage are just as bad as the people who wait til someone falls and then go in and kick them, and kick them hard.

Perhaps instead of having a go at other people for what they say, just say things yourself? Engage, don't engage, whatever. But don't think that every post on here is posted by a woman, or indeed a feminist. More men on here than in a working man's club in the late 70s.
