Pregnant NYC Bike "Karen" was the victim, not the agressor

Trial by social media for a pregnant woman who cried when a man tried to steal the bike she's hired is tried and hung by social media, and put on unpaid leave from her job, with no evidence or investigation:

It turns out she had paid for the bike and he has no evidence he paid. But he is not the subject of the internets wrath, no consequences for him.

I hope she takes her employers to court and wins a massive settlement. Surreal levels of misogyny and hatred directed to a pregnant healthcare worker who did nothing wrong at all.

Will this ever be recognised for what it is?

"Berk" may not be a very polite word, but it doesn't have racist undertones.

You need to answer the points raised by the people on this thread, not just keep accusing anyone disagreeing with you of being racist. It's very tiresome behavior.

Perhaps while people are focusing on white woman tears, they could have a look at the male need to look down on, control, humiliate, subjugate and harm women and girls that's existed throughout the entirely of humankind, and see if that could have played any part here - in the media storm that followed if not in the initial interaction.

I just don't believe a woman would argue about a bike with a group of young man unless she had actually paid for it. It's not race dependent at all. She would not have argued with a group of white young men either.

I agree...I just don't understand why this has become a racial issue..either the males were really convinced it was their bike or they were attempting to scam her...who knows? They've gone to ground so it seems likely it was the latter. The media - social and journos have a lot to answer for IMO, they are the ones inciting racial hatred.

The nurse tried to steal the bike from them.
Said nurse then weaponised her white woman tears in an attempt to perpetuate said theft.

She deserves to be sacked not just suspended. In a recent past her crying wolf could have resulted in the murder of those black boys. Think back to Emmett Till

In what universe will a pregnant woman (of any colour) go up to three or four teenage males (of any colour), all much bigger than her, and try to steal from them.

If I weren't so annoyed, I could really laugh at the idea of this pregnant nurse wrestling a full-grown man off his bike (that Trudy claims he was actually sitting on before racist white lady came along to steal) and then clambering on herself. It's just absurd.

@littleripper the boys own recording state they paid for the bike. So until I see proof to the contrary I'll believe them.

The NYC press describe them as youth under the age of 18 aka a child. I do not know these children so if there is a misprint and they clarify (supported by the youths aka children confirming) as such I'll change my description of them. Until then I'll refer to them as children instead of adultifying them to appease your (likely) rascist rhetoric .

Finally I'm a black woman so how does that fit your view of my opinion? I make a point of not allowing white adults bully young black people adultify said young black people.

In NYC if they ride the bike away and it is on her a/c she will be charged $1,000.00 if they do not put it back.

There is a lot at stake.

Another man suggested they redock and use the booking to take it out again.

For some reson they did not want to do this.

I imagine that, regardless of the side you're taking, it's more a reflection of your biases than any real evidence.

How do these stories even make it to the media?
Was it uploaded by a twitter account? instagram? tiktok? youtube? If so, why are none of these news outlets mentioning it?

The young men will also be getting attacked online, won’t they? And while the woman is getting misogyny thrown at her they will be getting racism and probably all manner of nasty violent threats to them and their families. So you can see why they might want to lie low even if they are genuine.
Hence I am not going to draw conclusions from the fact they haven’t come forward.

I think the media deciding it is the job of, say, an online bicycling magazine to get involved in this kind of thing is a big part of the problem. It gives the slander a legitimacy it wouldn’t have if it was just ransoms on Twitter.
However it’s perfectly obvious why they do it, I bet bicycling.com could tell you it’s one of their most clicked on stories ever.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think we can infer anything from them lying low. It may have been a misunderstanding or double-booking. We shouldn't leap to assuming guilt, any more than the rest of SM should have assumed the nurse was at fault.

I am responding to all legitimate questions. What I won't do is tussle with racism random trolls who have so little grasp of societal decency that they resort to swearing at someone just because they have different viewpoints on a situation that none of us where privy to in real time.

We are all entitled to our opinions and we should all be able to express them without resorting to provocative language and insults.

Since pregnancy is being used as a reason why the nurse must be telling the truth I'm saying prove it. The suggestion being if she isn't pregnant does that change the interpretation of the video? Just a thought
