That BBC article has been reported to the Met Police as a "Hate Crime". And it seems that others are now going to follow suit and perhaps even inundate the Met with this silly and vexatious claim.

Just when you think they cannot do anything more bonkers, they surprise you again.... and again.

The complaint/police report won't go anywhere. The headline clearly says "some" transwomen.

BaronessBomburst · 28/10/2021 12:04

Thank you for the links. I've sent positive feedback thanking the BBC for the article.

Probably too much to hope that it rebounds. The article exposes something which I'd have thought fitted firmly into the 'hate crime' category - rape, with the aggravating factor being that the victim was targeted as a. homosexual.
Sparklfairy · 28/10/2021 12:12

@ErrolTheDragon now that would be an interesting turn of events!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/10/2021 12:14

Is it possible to FOI request the BBC for the number of comments broadly against or in support of the article, anybody know?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 28/10/2021 12:15

@KingscoteStaff

As of this morning there have been 4000 complaints to the BBC and 3500 appreciations! Nearly there!
Just saw that after I posted - do you have a link?

Is this the bloke whose judgment on what constitutes a hate crime may just possibly be a wee bit flawed?
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/10/2021 12:38

Why yes, I do believe it is! Grin

specialsauce · 28/10/2021 12:50

@Deliriumoftheendless

What is the crime that has been committed?
The crime here is daring to suggest that some 'people with penises' can't have sex with whoever they damned decide to.

Article appreciation submitted. Thanks for the link @Enough4me

scorpio32 · 28/10/2021 13:46

I wonder, if the police took DNA samples of the people who signed that petition, how many crimes would be solved?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 28/10/2021 14:00

Homosexual women sharing moving accounts of their sexual assaults are committing a hate crime?

Really?

Who is it that does the "War on Women"? Cos, yes. That.

See if I was a friend of the vexatious litigant I'd be warning him he might start finding himself on shaky ground and maybe start to concentrate on his career.

Anyone want to count up how many of the Rules of Misogyny apply in the various responses to this article? Might be quicker to count those which don't apply.

If this police reporting comes to nothing, and Stonewall agree that action should have been taken, you can bet that it’ll be included in their next round of training for the police and justice system and that policies will include it never mind it having no basis in English law.

For me, this article has highlighted the importance of why the protected characteristics must not be altered from sex to gender, nor sexual orientation to preference. The impact on women and lesbians, especially young women and lesbians, will be huge. The thought of Stonewall amending policies by stealth is chilling and it must be stopped and all changed policies must be amended to once again fall in line with the law. I would like to write to my MP, and wonder whether there are any template letters or suggested points to include? I’d really like to be as thorough as possible.

Have you seen the latest on this on the BBC - open letter article.

NiceGerbil · 28/10/2021 21:51

This is all bloody ridiculous.

I mean just... Bananas.

Yes the BBC has a certain remit as publicly funded etc and supposed to be neutral.

That aside.

It is totally normal for news orgs etc to do pieces based on something that has come to their attention. With interviews with individuals. I glanced at it. It has the usual some people say x etc.

I mean this is normal.

This is how we hear first hand accounts of all manner of things. Things that can end up being hugely important. I mean off the top of my head.

First hand interviews and couched in similar - some people saying this, here are accounts style-

Treatment of people in immigrant centres England
Situation of individuals and onto families of people who came here on windrush
Unmarried women in England being coerced/ forced into giving up newborns in England up until. Not got date. Appallingly recently
Widespread abuse of boys in sports clubs

And yes- about struggles faced by trans people, children waiting for treatment etc.

This is a totally standard reporting approach. Everyday.

And no it's not always stuff that is... Approved in certain ways.

I've read loads of reports about hidden abuse, coercion, grooming, organised crime in LOADS of groups/ areas that are supposed to be good/ protected etc.

This is properly bizarre. Esp given the number of interview based reports about trans struggles.

Complaining/ well done.

I don't get it? I mean I do. But it's so weird. This is a Twitter thing isn't it really. Facebook. How many likes? Etc.

The fact that some who are journalists! FFS. Want this pulled. And think rallying the complaints will get that done. Where are their journalistic ethics? Their basic fucking understanding of their job and industry?

I mean if that's how it works.

Report eg child abuse in sports clubs. Ask supporters to complain. And it's gone!

That's what they want? Well the answer would be no. But that's the whole point of journalism. That something comes along by whatever means. Investigate, uncover. REPORT. even if it's going to be something really unpopular.

That's a basic FFS.

Why does this ONE GROUP believe that nothing ever slightly negative should ever be known by anyone?

In the USA a long standing previously well thought of legal group for rights etc. Is taking an individual to court to prevent a question being answered. How many males are in women's prisons in California. There must not be an answer.

That's not about equality, oppression, fighting for those who have been/are disadvantaged. That is something obscene.

Just. Don't get it.

While stonewall (and others) have pushed their own law wordings and interpretations successfully far and wide,

And lobbied for changes to the EA etc.

I genuinely can't see the protected characteristic of sex being changed or removed. In law. I really can't.

There are more pressing things to write about probably if you are keen!

Prisons/ sport/ school facilities/ etc etc.

I mean just what I think obv do what you feel :)

Kendodd · 28/10/2021 22:04

Have the lesbians refusing to have sex not been reported to the police for committing hate crimes yet then?

NiceGerbil · 28/10/2021 22:29

Given homosexual women have long been a fascination/ targeted etc by straight men. Harrassed attacked insulted distrusted etc.

And of course rape (the term corrective used as an excuse for a reminder of what/who women are for / gang rape/ murder still goes on all over the world.

Homosexuality is illegal in plenty of countries still.

It's a very nasty facet of a certain male /societal attitude towards women and girls.

Such that. Male > female sexual coercion, aggression, threats, etc are hardly uncommon.

Most women (or girls), lesbian or otherwise, don't report sex offences of whatever severity....

So no, highly unlikely.

NiceGerbil · 28/10/2021 22:30

Oh sorry didn't read that correctly!

Back to front sorry.

Men have always seen women/ girls saying no as an outrage. If they could make it a crime... Well.

Enough4me · 28/10/2021 22:44

It's the incel ideology too, men who think they deserve a woman to posses and to give them sex because they want it.

To these men, women are commodities to be owned and not fully functioning adult human females with imdependent thoughts and rights.

nauticant · 28/10/2021 23:18

I wondered whether it might be possible to send an FOI request to the police for the number of hate incidents that end up being recorded connected to the BBC article GingerAndTheBiscuits.

Here's a link

Open letter signed by 16,000 calls for BBC apology over trans article https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-59074096

It reiterates the bbc response, and says
It is understood the BBC has also received a number of appreciations from audience members about the article in addition to the complaints.

And
But the hashtag #IStandWithLesbians also began trending, and Shahrar Ali of the Green Party said it was an "insightful article not for faint-hearted, admirably exploring viewpoints from all sides".
