That BBC article has been reported to the Met Police as a "Hate Crime". And it seems that others are now going to follow suit and perhaps even inundate the Met with this silly and vexatious claim.

Just when you think they cannot do anything more bonkers, they surprise you again.... and again.

What is the crime that has been committed?

StealthPolarBear · 28/10/2021 07:28

Meanness to men :(

Deliriumoftheendless · 28/10/2021 07:32

Ah, the worstest crime of them all.

CatsOperatingInGangs · 28/10/2021 07:55

This seems to be a new tactic by TRAs. I recently saw the mum of a TW gloat that she’d reported Fair Play for Women for a hate crime for publicly discussing their family member.
even though said family member and mum seems to enjoy putting themselves in the public eye

I’m sure it’s a tactic of the desperate but what happens when someone complains to the police about something you’ve said? Do they tell you someone has report you for a hate crime?

No doubt if the police refuse to run with this, they’ll be reported for colluding in a “hate crime”?

I mean, this could run and run, couldn’t it?

(Have sent positive feedback too - very satisfying after years of sending complaints about biased reporting on issues that affect women and girls).1

@Enough4me thanks for the link, I've sent in some positive feedback, along with my concerns about TRA tactics to prevent free speech and saying that the BBC cannot be independent unless it cuts ties to the political lobbyist Stonewall, which deliberately misrepresents the law for its own ends.

Same. Thanks.

TuftyMarmoset · 28/10/2021 08:22

The irony that they think this is a hate crime but their homophobia towards lesbians is fine 🙄

I seriously get the rage every time I see them talk about ‘genital preference’. It’s called sexual orientation and it’s a protected characteristic!

donquixotedelamancha · 28/10/2021 08:25

@Maskless do you have a link to this tweet?
It occurs to me that while writing news articles is not a crime, wasting police time is.

Sorry, I did not save the link. You can search twitter for ChristineBurns and see it, though.

This so clearly demonstrates how hate incident/hate crime reporting is being abused.

Remember to record this as a hate incident all that is needed is for this to be perceived by anyone as hate towards one of the monitored strand. There needs to be no evidence, there is no investigation, its just recorded as fact

Hate incident reporting needs to be drastically overhauled.

Exactly.

Shock

Once again I'm shocked by the sense of entitlement from this activist group. Control freakery on steroids.

whitehorsesdonotlie · 28/10/2021 09:15

That is an excellent article.

This. I wonder if it will in fact be recorded as a "hate incident" and how many other articles are?

@Datun

I mean if you want to deny that nothing about your ideology is coercive, trying to get every challenge to it shut down, deleted, discredited and, now, er, criminalised, probably isn't demonstrating what you think it is.
Quite.

I'm pleased its been reported.

There is no victim.
People reporting it aren't trans.
Trans people were interviewed for the piece and wanted to talk about the issue and how they found the silencing culture was detrimental to them.
Lesbians were raped, sexually assaulted and harassed. Actual crimes - perhaps the police will reflect and start to encourage lesbians to come forward even if their attacker is trans.
Homosexuality is a protected characteristic and Stonewall is actively trying to discourage the reporting of crimes through intimidation and creating a culture of silence.
The Met is currently under massive scrutiny for ignoring reports of harassment and sexual assault by women.
It makes it more difficult for the Met to be seen to be siding with an organisation which isn't taking the abuse of lesbians seriously given there is a public kickback on this.

I'm willing to bet close examination of the 10,000 signatories to the objection to the BBC article would be quite revealling in terms of where they live, what age they are, whether they are trans, whether they are male or female and whether they work in tech. I'd be fascinated to know tbh.

I hope the Met take the complaint seriously, consider it and then publically report back that its a load of vexatious bollocks trying to end freedom of speech at the expense of a protected group who are being harmed.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/10/2021 10:52

@CallMeNutribullet

Good job it wasn't published in Scotland
The Marion millar case has just been dropped (theres another thread today) so maybe sanity is starting to reassert itself there.

I can't find it but that may just be because I'm bad at Twitter.

It depends if you've ever made a remotely pro feminist tweet or follow any known feminists. Burns uses a terfblocker

This just gets better and better.

The Home Secretary is likely to be watching how the 'Met' deal with this like a hawk, so The Commissioner of the Metropolis (Dick) will likely encourage a 'robust' response to this, particularly as the Met won't fancy being seen as supporting rape apologists. I wouldn't be surprised to see if a few 'wasting police time' arrests are actioned, just to ensure the message is sent.

Fetarabbit · 28/10/2021 11:21

It seems a balanced article, they make sure to say 'some', share the experiences of women rather than speculate hypothetically, and reached out to try and also include the views on the opposite side. Complaining about this as a hate crime shows how ridiculous they are.

Datun · 28/10/2021 11:30

Yep. The BBC have been told to be impartial, on pain of sanctions, and now they have.

Violence against women is high in the public consciousness and the Met condoning it is an unthinkable optic.

I too hope they take the complaint seriously, and drill down into who has made it, and on what grounds.

I know I'm quoting myself here, sorry.

The police must surely now realise that these vexatious accusations are just going to be stepped up, and that they have no basis.

If they want to send a message, now is the time.

FrancescaContini · 28/10/2021 11:36

😆😆 That’s hilarious…it gives their stupidity more exposure. Hoisted..petard..etc….

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/10/2021 11:41

The article contains NKs own words ffs.

Shouldn't they be having a go at her not the BBC for quoting her

KingscoteStaff · 28/10/2021 11:44

As of this morning there have been 4000 complaints to the BBC and 3500 appreciations! Nearly there!
