Day 8 Off Citalopram And Feel Alive!

boolifooli · 07/09/2009 12:08

The last 4 days have been yuk but I feel great today! I first noticed yesterday that I am feeling things more, I cried while watching a movie yesterday and that hasn't happened for a while. Although the Citalopram capped the anxiety it also capped a lot of the good stuff. Anyways I just wanted to give some hope to people who are thinking of coming off and worried after reading many horror stories.

Of course you can come in. Pull up a chair and make yourself comfy!

10 is quite a low dose, is your GP starting you slowly? Don't forget it takes a couple of weeks to kick in so you need to be extra kind to yourself for a wee while.

Chillo I thuink coping with kids is a bit like the AA - just take one day at a time and if you can't do that take an hour at a time!

If all else fails I agree dose with choclate as required, although in clinical trials (in my house) we have found that Haribo works wonders....

Now I wonder if that is an offence for which I can be banned from mumsnet...

Could you ring GP to check in morning? The surgery nurse might be able to find out. Failing that my local chemist has a pharmacist who is brilliant - to the extent I would almost rather believe her than dr!!!

You are very welcome here, Rosemary. It sounds like you need to take life a moment at a time, if you can. Focus on feeling good now, and let tomorrow morning worry about itself - easier said than done, I know.

Gonnabehappy is right about asking the doctor or pharmacist about taking vitamin B - I'd go to the pharmacist, just because it will be easier to get to see them than to get to chat with the doctor.

Citalopram has really helped me, and I hope it will do the same for you.

Rosemary, I am pretty sure that you can take vitamin B as well. I am on other tablets as well as my Citalopram, and the other tablets stop my body from asborbing vitamins from food, so I have to take a supplement, and the vitamin tablets I have contain B (among others). Stayingscary is right about the pharmacist, though, they have a little book they can cross-check everything in.

Gonna, luckily, DH bought far too many sweets for the trick or treaters so I have plenty left over for bribery and for me too

OrmIrian · 02/11/2009 09:29

Does anyone know what the GP might do now that I have chosen to start taking my tablets again? I have to go back and see him as I have very few left. But I was told that a yr was the usual length of time to take them so will he try to persuade me to take something different?

Am in a real mess. Had screaming row with DH on saturday and told him I wanted a divorce and had for years Which has an element of truth - i've not been 100% happy (but who is) but I never ever meant to say it to him. He doesn't deserve it. He was so upset. Think it's OK but I have to get back to normal. I also explained to DS#1 what is wrong with me - he needs to know why I am being so utterly vile. He was releived - he thought it was his fault.

Stayingscarygirl · 02/11/2009 10:07

I have been on citalopram for well over a year, OrmIrian, and there's been no suggestion that I should change to another drug. I wouldn't have thought that the gp could make you change if you didn't want to.

You've reminded me, though - I am running low, and need to make an appointment with the gp to get a new prescription - thanks! Please nag me, though, because I tend to let it slide, to the point of having to beg for a repeat prescription because I'm about to run out.

Are you taking them morning or evening, Rosemary? I ask because I took mine in the evening, when I was first on them, and suffered from sleep disturbances, until a pharmacist told me that I shouldn't take them at night, as that's a known side effect.

I take them in the morning now, but they do make me feel queasy - I can manage a cup of coffee, but not a lot else, until my stomach settles.

I have just found ginger rock, and that does settle my stomach. Ginger tea or a ginger biscuit might do the same.

{{Hugs}} - I hope you feel better soon.

Stayingscarygirl · 02/11/2009 10:33

And fwiw, I'm taking the citalopram to enable me to get through to when I get therapy, and to support me until the therapy starts.

I would suggest having a chat with your gp - it may be that something different would suit you better, or that the side effects will settle.

I'm glad you're going to speak to your gp, and I hope they call back soon and are helpful, Rosemary.

I'm going to get off the pc and go have some breakfast, as the queasiness is settling now, but I will be back later on to see how you are doing.

You hang in there, OK?

No problem, Rosemary.

Breakfast is over, so I'm back - though I will have to go in a while, and pick up the rubbish that the dog has scattered over the lawn. I suspect that I am going to find an empty butter container there too - I know that yesterday we had one unopened, and one almost full, and the almost full one has vanished. I suspect that a boy has left it within reach on the worktop, and the dog has had the best part of half a pound of butter. Oh joy.

ChilloHippi · 02/11/2009 13:07

My dogs think butter is the best thing in the world too. Bits of chewed up butter containers really hurt when you tread on them.

Stayingscarygirl · 02/11/2009 13:23

I still haven't found the empty butter container. She has presented me with the well-chewed lid, though.

ChilloHippi · 02/11/2009 13:32

Oh dear. NAughty doggie. At least the butter will make her coat nice and shiney.

Your diet will affect how you feel, and exercise is a great help too. I wish I was as motivated as you, Rosemary. Good luck, and feel free to let us know how you are getting on.

OrmIrian · 02/11/2009 15:23

Made an appointment for Wed morning.

Stayingscarygirl · 02/11/2009 15:25

I'm glad the doctor was helpful, Rosemary. Healthy food sounds like an excellent idea. Perhaps people could share ideas of food that helps.

Orm - good for you for getting the appointment, and I hope that the doctor is helpful for you too.

ChilloHippi · 03/11/2009 08:27

That's good, Orm. I find that my doctor is quite dismissive, and I used to always take DH in with me. Now that I am not anxious anymore it's ok though and I can handle it on my own. Yesterday I even put in a request for a return to work certificate so I can do some supply teaching. I bet he was over the moon as I know he hasn't been happy writing me sick notes for ages. He's very much of the 'pull yourself together' school of thought, which as we all know, is no good for someone that is depressed.
I'll stop waffling now lol. Hope everyone is ok.

gonnabehappy · 03/11/2009 10:15

Week and a half into the 20/10 and having a bit of a down, spent all day yesterday in bed. getting myself a bit together today tho. I think this is PMT related. Knowing that does not help tho.

OrmIrian · 03/11/2009 11:07

Thanks chillo.

I couldn't sleep last night. I seem to remember that is something that happens when you start the drug for some. Didn't happen last time though.
