Hello ladies,

As we seem to have reached our limit on the other thread, I thought I had better start a new one!!

We have the 'positive' one started by our lovely BB - so I suggest we keep this as the 'anxious' one (i.e. the one where we can all say "OMG, it said on the news that someone v-d 200 miles away from me - am I going to catch it?!") We can share our worries, however silly they sound, without undoing the good work on the other thread. What do you all think?

I shall start off by saying that every time DD speaks, I think she's going to say she feels sick!!!

Now that really is neurotic...

Oh, you poor thing. I am so sorry to hear it. Is it possible that it might be anxiety-related? (I'm clutching at straws here - I often suffer from tummy complaints when anxious, and especially if I've been near someone who's ill!)

To be positive, it is good that you've not felt nauseous. It may just have been something you ate that disagreed with you. I hope you have a good night, and wake up with no d tomorrow...

Well I do get anxious about my digestive system but I don't often get d unless there's something funny going on.

Dp and dd are fine though so I'm taking some comfort from that.

Dottoressa · 03/01/2009 22:36

IF - I shall send you anti-D vibes! It's good news that your DP and DD are fine. Long may they stay that way...

IF - how are things?

I am going to have a grumble/anxious moment now. We went to see friends this afternoon. When we got there, guess what? Their DS (2.5) has a hideous cough, which started yesterday, and he v-d twice last night. He is okay-ish now, in a coughy sort of way. His mum said he v-d because he was coughing, but I am still in a state of horror and terror. DD went off with him and his mum in their car to collect the older children from climbing, so I am completely convinced that she is going to catch it from being in the same car as this poor child who literally can't stop coughing. He also stuck his snot-covered fingers in the milk before we had tea (I had my tea black as a result!!)

Any reassurance, anyone??? I am very gloomy now!

imaginaryfriend · 04/01/2009 22:50

Not too bad dot. The d died down this morning but I've felt very windy and bloated all day with those shooting wind pains in my belly. Dd's been off her food but not totally and she often has days like that so I'm trying to keep it in perspective. Dp, so far, seems fine.

As for your concern, to be honest dd has often been slightly sick due to coughing but it's nothing like a tummy bug. Not all kids cough til they v and it's avoidable. Nowadays when I hear dd coughing in the night I go into her room and sit with her propped up on my knee until the coughing episode passes and she never does that coughing / retching thing any more. So even if your ds gets it, he might just get a cough / cold and not cough til he v's. And if you get it you're extremely unlikely to cough til you retch / v. And there won't be anything contagious in v from a cough / retch.

Any help?

imaginaryfriend · 04/01/2009 22:52
  • Sorry I meant your dd not ds - I got confused because of the ds in the coughing story. I did actually remember you have a dd.
Dottoressa · 04/01/2009 23:02

IF - thank you for the reassurance. In fact, I have a DS and a DD, so you have kindly covered my anxieties regarding both of them!!

I'm glad you've not had another d episode, and that you're all surviving. It's good that your DP is showing no odd signs. School starts again on Wednesday for the DCs, which is causing me great anxiety now!

Yes, me too. School on Tuesday for dd. I'm thinking that this week should be reasonably ok - the school will be all disinfected after the hols. Just have to hope there are some responsible parents this term.

IlanaK · 09/01/2009 20:37

Hi all

Just wanted to say that we got back from Center Parcs today and despite all my worrying in the run up to it, we were all fine - no bugs caught at all. And while I was there, I really did not worry that much about it at all. In fact, I think we washed our hands less there than I did all the time before we went. It was like the obsession didn't exist anymore.

Anyway, I just wanted to reassure you all that: firstly, it is possible to be in a highly risky environment like that without getting ill, and secondly, it IS possible to become less obssessed by it all!

Me too!!

I always get nervous when the number of messages on this thread goes up, but that is very, very good news, and encouraging for all of us!

Well done Ilana!

I have to say that when we were in France last summer I felt quite phobia-free for the week. I don't know what magic happened but I went from madly hand spraying on the plane to being there and hardly thinking about washing my hands! It was such bliss, a real window into how things could be.

wiggleit · 11/01/2009 20:49

hello ladies.

How are we all?

I've just realised this thread was running(i have my blonde moments!!) so thought i'd drop a line.

Hope everyone is well and noro free!

Lotsa love xx

Hello all,

Just posting to have a moan! I was fine yesterday morning, and walked to the shops. By the time I got back, I had horrible stomach pains and a temperature, and have been laid up since then trying not to v. I even succumbed to DH's suggestion that I had a bowl last night just in case, as I thought I'd be in too much pain to get up and get to the loo quickly if need be...

I haven't actually v-d (yet!!), but I feel so sick. I also felt very flu-y yesterday, though that seems to have abated now. Has anyone else had similar/heard of anyone else having similar without actually v-ing? I just want to feel better .

minko · 22/01/2009 13:21

You'll prob be fine soon, these things usually only last 24 hours or so. Get yourself some anti-emetics from the doctor too, having them has taken a real weight off my mind as they work brilliantly.

(By the way, I've had plenty of stomach bugs and managed not to v. but I have developed it into an art over the years!)

Marne · 22/01/2009 13:42

Hi all, thought i would post here as i am far from cured (i am seeing a counceller). As part of my gradual exposure therapy i had to walk past pubs and clubs this morning, i saw V 4 times and was ment to stay there until my anxiety levels halfed but i kept walking (i chickened out and took a detour on the way back to the car)

I was poorly last, think i have IBS but i get so worried as soon as i get a tummy ache which results in me sitting on the loo for hours. Feeling better this morning (still a bit yucky feeling) but managed to walk past the pubs even though i felt rough.

Imaginaryfriend- like you ,if dd is ill i will be the one that cleans up (whilst shaking and sweating), then i know its done to my standards (using a bottle of anti-bac spray, rubber gloves and bleach), in a way i fear dh or the children being ill more than myself being ill even though they can handle it a lot better than me. Also understand about almost seeing the germs, i make dd wash her hands as soon as she gets in the door and i make her use the hand spray .

Dh is working late tommorow so my mum is comming over to sit with me as i get worried that on of the dd's will be ill and i won't be able to cope

I cant wait for the summer and for the bugs to die off so i can relax i little more.

Dottoressa · 22/01/2009 14:20

Minko - thanks for the support and advice. I think I have largely developed the art of tummy bugs too!

Marne - good to see you on here. You did well to encounter 4 lots of v without having a panic attack, even if you didn't hang around (I wouldn't have done either!!)

Lucky you having an understanding and local mum. My DH is going away for two weeks in March, so I will be on my own with the DCs. I'm already dreading it.. they always seem to v when he's away!!

Dot, I'd have thought if you were going to v you would have done by now, honestly. It's usually the first thing. Keep sipping water if you can. Have you managed to eat anything?

mumtoo3 · 23/01/2009 08:16

hey all, how are you feeling now?

can i ask a really silly question here? if the cold does not kill the tummy bugs is it the heat that does? does the hot countries get these bugs?

thanks for answering these questions

Dottoressa · 23/01/2009 08:45

Hello ladies,

Thanks for the cyber hand-holding!

I am feeling somewhat better today, and have had some breakfast (though am now rather regretting it). So I hope the worst is over! I am seeing the counsellor on Monday, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I am still determined to do something about this, esp. given DH's March absence. It would be nice to be a bit more in control of this phobia by then [hopeful emoticon]...

mto3 - I don't know either! I imagine these bugs exist everywhere, but really haven't got a clue. If the heat does kill them off, maybe I should emigrate to somewhere hot?!

mumtoo3 · 23/01/2009 09:45

dot glad you are feeling a bit better today, will keep fingers crossed for you

i am seriously thinking of moving abroad thats why i ask!!!! having a wacky few weeks and thinking unrationally but dh even thinks moving is a good idea hence my question

mt3 x

Marne · 23/01/2009 12:27

mumtoo3- i was thinking that too, i would move abroad to get away from all the bugs.

wiggleit · 24/01/2009 17:43

Hi everyone!

How are we all?

I would love to emigrate to oz but my DH not interested. It is a dream of mine. The outdoor living, 360 days of sunshine, beach, sea...what is there not to like? (apart from the killer spiders, sharks, crocs etc )..(hhmmmm..maybe i haven't thought this one through enough yet! ) ..

I hope you are all well. xx

Dottoressa · 24/01/2009 19:58

My DH got food poisoning at McDonalds in Oz, which rules it out for me!!!

Still feeling sick today, and am v fed up with it...

Hope everyone else is faring better!
