Hello ladies,

As we seem to have reached our limit on the other thread, I thought I had better start a new one!!

We have the 'positive' one started by our lovely BB - so I suggest we keep this as the 'anxious' one (i.e. the one where we can all say "OMG, it said on the news that someone v-d 200 miles away from me - am I going to catch it?!") We can share our worries, however silly they sound, without undoing the good work on the other thread. What do you all think?

I shall start off by saying that every time DD speaks, I think she's going to say she feels sick!!!

Now that really is neurotic...

PB there's always the possibility that she might have eaten something dodgy?

pinkbubble · 23/12/2008 23:49

I did have a thread about DD3 and school dinners! Up until last week DD3 refused Sch dinners completely, because when she had then in Reception (2 times) she was ill - see below the 1st and 2nd time! it took her to pluck up courage and several years to have a 3rd time!

The odd thing is when DD3 has a Sch dinner she always seems to be ill.

1st time she had an awful ear and chest infection and was poorly many a time

2nd time she had a tummy bug

3rd time she was just poorly in the middle of the night and now has a tickly cough!

pinkbubble · 23/12/2008 23:56

Sorry that should say that DD3 plucked up courage and had Sch dinner last week and she was ill! Poor thing, have no idea how to address the situation, really upsets.

How do you rationalise something like that to an 8 yr old. You eat sch dinners you are ill - that is what she sees!

Once is horrid
Twice is bad luck

leave it a couple of years.....

Third time is really not just horrid but also bad luck and errrr what else can I tell her!

mumtoo3 · 24/12/2008 09:10

thought i would jump in hey all

we have had this flu/cold thing ds lasted 24hrs, dd1 picked it up the following day, and she said the dreaded 'i feel sick' but a large dose of calpol for the 40.1 temp, worked, but the fever lasted 5 days then sunday morning i woke with it and dd2 had it as well but i sweated loads last night and just pray i am not sick with the temp and cough!

but my mum had it and kept being sick on monday so christmas was nearly cancelled and mil was ill on sunday night as well, aaahhhhh so now just hoping weve all had the same thing but reacted differently, {mt3 to touches all wood in our house!}

merry christmas all x sending noro free vibes to you all x x x

Dottoressa · 24/12/2008 19:42

Hello and happy Christmas, all!

Mto3 - I hope you are feeling better now, you poor thing. It sounds as if it is the same thing, so with a bit of luck you will avoid the v bit. I have everything crossed for you!

PB - really sorry about your DD3. I hope you all have an illness-free day tomorrow.

It appears I just can't avoid v at the moment. We went to a carol service at our local cathedral today - and I spotted someone scattering sawdust on the floor quite near to us. Alarm bells immediately started ringing, but I decided not to ask any questions on the grounds that knowing it was v wouldn't change anything about it. However, nosey DS did ask - and someone had indeed v'd. Oh fabbo. Even cathedrals are not safe!!

Wishing you all a happy and v-free Christmas period. Hugs to all xx

PB dd has school lunches but she has to really as she has a severe peanut allergy and the school guarantee nut-free meals but can't guarantee no nut contact if she were to sit with the packed lunch eaters. I was also told that as they eat with a knife and fork rather than their fingers (sandwiches etc.) there was less likelihood of them getting a bug. The latter reason is really secondary to the fears of contact with nuts though obviously.

I hope everyone manages a wonderful and bug-free day tomorrow. So far so good with us (touching wood).

pinkbubble · 26/12/2008 20:41

Have no idea why DD is ill after a School dinner. It must really be a coincidence.

She does not have any food allergy.

IlanaK · 26/12/2008 21:52

Well, we are still bug free (touch wood) though I did have a scary moment on Christmas Eve afternoon when ds2 (4) had diarreah in his pants (not normal for him at all) and ds1 (7) also had some in the toilet. It was a one off and I think it was the icecream they had at Pizza Express for lunch that day. I can't link it to anything else as dh and I were fine.

I still have the ordeal of Centre Parcs to come at the beginning of Jan, but I am trying to tell myself we will be fine and enjoy it.

Does anyone know when noro season ends and we can all stop worrying?

imaginaryfriend · 26/12/2008 22:49

I don't know Ilana, I thought it was at its peak between November and April but the only time dd had it was in June a couple of years ago.

Anyone know why it's meant to be a winter bug only?

pinkbubble · 27/12/2008 00:03

Oh crumbs, think we are in for a long night in the bubble household! DD3 has just come down sobbing. Not like her at all. She does not feel well. DH has given her Calpol, I am now just waiting

pinkbubble · 27/12/2008 00:14

What is it with DD3, it was last Friday night/ early Saturday morning that she was ill! Why now!!!!!! Bloody illness - think it should be banned!

Dottoressa · 27/12/2008 08:14

PB - how's your DD3?

I agree that illness should be banned! I had a dream about DS v-ing last night, and that was bad enough...

She tossed and turned all night, occasionally moaning. She woke this morning crying but after some neurofen she perked up. Turned out to be her ear! (phew) although saying that ear aches are nasty things, at least I know you can't catch them!

I honestly thought she was going to be really ill in the night, so far we as a family seem to have escaped the Noro virus and I am on tender hooks all the time.

Dottoressa · 27/12/2008 17:10

PB - I'm sorry she's got ear-ache, but relieved (iyswim) to hear it's not tummy-related!

At the moment I'm relieved that we got through Christmas without illness, but I have an upset tummy today. Grr.

imaginaryfriend · 27/12/2008 23:08

Sorry to hear that dot - what's up with your tum?

pc, dd's been quite off her food and complaining of being tired for the whole time since she broke up from school, leading me to suspect / fear the onset of the dreaded noro but so far nothing seems to have materialised.

We're off to stay at my mum's from Tuesday - Friday and I have no internet access so won't be able to catch up with you guys but I'll be looking in of course until I go.

Dottoressa · 28/12/2008 22:35

Hello IF!

I am probably imagining it all as I appear to be fine today. Thanks for asking. I hope your DD is likewise, despite tiredness and lack of appetite!

If I don't manage to get onto the PC tomorrow, I hope you have a great time at your mum's!

OP posts:
pinkbubble · 28/12/2008 22:58

Glad your feeling fine Dot, I really know how you feel with one day you feel ok, next you feel you have a bit of a dodgy tummy, its the battle, is it something I have eaten or is it somewhere I have been. Perhaps its a bug.... Constantly wondering what will be!

imaginaryfriend · 28/12/2008 23:25

Yes, me too, always looking for signs. In myself or in dd or dp. Dp had awful indigestion last night in bed and was up and down drinking Gaviscon until 3am. I couldn't sleep after. I got into bed with dd (no spare room) but was awake until 5am expecting to hear him rushing to the bathroom at any moment but he didn't and woke up this morning totally fine. He does get a lot of indigestion, I worry about it as it doesn't seem right for him to get it so frequently. He saw the GP who gave him Omeprazole but it's not enough, he will still have days / nights where he's really plagued by it.

pinkbubble · 28/12/2008 23:28

DH despairs of me! i do know I worry, but I rationalise myself by thinking - doesn't every Mother?

pinkbubble · 31/12/2008 22:47

Heres to a nice and healthy 2009 and hopefully a drop in Noro virus and all!

Cheers chucks!

Dottoressa · 01/01/2009 10:09

I'll second that!

Happy and noro-free new year to you all...

Hi there, I'm back from my mum's and she dropped a bit of a bombshell in her car when she picked us up from the station ... She's had chronic d for almost 2 weeks!! She said it started 2 weeks ago and she had bad cramps / nausea and didn't eat for about 3 days (this is highly unusual for my mum, I think she's only ever v-d twice in my whole life). Since then she's getting constant tummy cramps and needs to run to the bathroom all the time. She saw the GP last week who wants her to take a sample in as it might be salmonella poisoning.

So ... obviously now I'm wondering if we've caught anything. And if it's possible to catch salmonella?! why would she have this for 2 weeks? I've been in such a panic the whole time there especially as my mum was doing all the food preparation and using either of her two toilets. I kept changing her towels over

I'm not happy. Any advice / reassurance/ facts?

Dottoressa · 03/01/2009 09:26

Ohhhhhh... that really is not very nice. You poor thing - and your poor mum! I would be in a real panic in your shoes (not that this is much help!!)

However, I don't think you can catch salmonella (though I may be wrong there). I thought you could only catch it by eating food that actually has bugs in it, rather than bugs that might have been on the hands of someone who handles it. Two weeks is a long time to have d.

I hope someone can offer more reassurance. In the meantime, I hope you are still healthy. Fingers crossed for you...

I had d this morning, just twice, not major, but I felt sweaty and weak after. I haven't felt nauseous though. But I haven't eaten anything just in case. Now I'm wondering if this will last for 2 weeks like with my mum!
