Hello ladies,

As we seem to have reached our limit on the other thread, I thought I had better start a new one!!

We have the 'positive' one started by our lovely BB - so I suggest we keep this as the 'anxious' one (i.e. the one where we can all say "OMG, it said on the news that someone v-d 200 miles away from me - am I going to catch it?!") We can share our worries, however silly they sound, without undoing the good work on the other thread. What do you all think?

I shall start off by saying that every time DD speaks, I think she's going to say she feels sick!!!

Now that really is neurotic...

Dd1 is now walking around eating biscuits , lets hope she's on the mend.

I think i will keep her off school for a couple days though as i don't want her catching the tummy bug that half the class has got and a couple days at home won't hurt.

roundabout1 · 22/10/2009 14:08

Can I join you ladies? I'm anxious at the mo as my 4 yr dd has had a dodgy tum since sun, not all the time & not bad enough to be off school but enough to make me get out the dettol & gloves & start worrying. I'm 8 wks pregnant & feeling like crap anyway and paranoid I will end up with the bug my dd has got but have it worse. I keep having a stern word with myself but then 5 mins later I am back to square one!

stressedbutluvem · 22/10/2009 14:32

Of course welcome, however, dont wish to be horrid or unwelcoming and I thoroughly understand that if you are pregnant and emetophobic or just emetophobic that you may want to steer as clear as possible from anyone with this sort of illness, but one of the things that drives most of us into rifts of panic and often fury on this thread is people who send their ill children into school. Nobody will be doing dettol and gloves at school and so these things go on and on and end up back on our doorsteps and all around us.
Hope she is alright for you anyway and hope you are too.

roundabout1 · 23/10/2009 09:18

stressedbutlovem - I know what you mean that was my way of thinking. tbh have a slight problem with dd's school, she's had quite a few days off already this term with one thing and another. Had an awful problem getting her settled into reception to begin with, sorted that out & then has been ill on a few ocassions & then after a few days away was back to square one. I spoke to school on mon & they advised me to send her in if she wasn't unwell. They were worried about her settling anyway & if she was ok in herself & happy then they said school was the best place to be. If she was properly ill I would def keep her off until a few days after she'd recovered to stop the bugs spreading.

hello all, can't believe there is a thread like this! I wish I had found you when DS was a baby and I was convinced I was insane. I am slightly better 6 years down the line (!) but lapsed horrifically during my (very difficult) pregnancy with DD.

Having said that the very real fears of my pregnancy (which included strict bedrest for 3 months with an incompetent cervix - as you can imagine too much time to google everything) have probably made me get things slightly more in perspective...but I'm very aware that I was so unfair to DS when DD was first born - constantly worrying about germs and him kissing her. It makes me so sad to be like that. He's such a good little fellow. As soon as he gets in from school he rushes to wash his hands so he can hold her...but I long to be the sort of person that doesn't NEED him to do that.

I'm hoping that I can learn coping mechanisims when the bugs start for DD (DS is now pretty good after spending his first 2 years ill pretty much all the time). And also how to disguise this fear from DC's so they don't suffer from it or (even worse) start being like me. I managed to joke about it with DS during pregnancy and we said it was the 'silly hormones' making mummy funny about things...but no such excuse now!

Sorry for long ramble....but I look forward to sharing and conquering fears with you all.

Hi mt3. Sorry, not been on here for a while and am just catching up on the threads. Sorry no-one was around in your hour week of need.
How are things now? I would presume it's all over and done with but i appreciate what a hard week you must have had. Poor you

naturopath · 25/11/2009 21:13

mt3 that must have been awful!!! Poor you! How did you cope? x

mumtoo3 · 29/11/2009 11:47

well i am here to tell the tale so not great but okay!

just come off my anti d's and having horrid withdrawl probs! just found out i am just over 5 weeks pregnant with dc4, and am quite stressed with all of this illness stuff!!!!

still having cbt but not sure if its helping as all the others in the group have ocd, but i have ocd, phobia and depression would love to get through this pregnancy and the first year being happy!!!

has anyone tried hypnotherapy (sp? baby brain kicked in already!) was thinking about it! they claim they can cure you

how is everyone?
x

wiggleit · 30/11/2009 16:04

Hi mt3. congrats on the news of forthcoming baby!!
Sorry you have/are having such a horrible time of it. Just remember things pass and nothing stays the same so you won;t always feel like you do now.
Have tried hypnotherapy years ago to no avail. Did feel more positive about things and more able to cope but unfortunately no cure for me. That's not to say you won't be cured by it though. Everyone is different but it appears my phobia is so deeply rooted i will probably never be cured. (or maybe that was just their excuse because they couldn't cure me ???)
Keep on with the cbt, i'm currently on a long waiting list for that. It did bb loads of good. Stick with it hun.

Hi to everyone! xx

naturopath · 15/12/2009 18:48

hello all. ds1 was randomly sick just after supper, but only a little bit. I really hope it wasn't the start of something... I feel sick just thinking about it. He's asleep now, but I fear the sound of him waking in the night.. he did have an allergic reaction to something earlier today (got a rash) so it could be the piriton wearing off and the allergy coming back.. I hope so. I may be back later in more panic..!! thanks for listening!

naturopath · 15/12/2009 19:44

forgot to say, he gave me a really wet kiss on the lips earlier!!! (again, randomly - I didn't even ask for a kiss!!) (he's 2 btw)

wiggleit · 16/12/2009 14:09

hi naturopath - how's things with ds1 now? Is he ok? Sounds like it could be what you said so let's hope so. Finger's crossed!

Hi to everyone else! xx

CaptainRex · 31/12/2009 14:24

Hi everyone, hope your Christmas'es were good and New Year is great.

I've been having CBT but my counsellor has changed my diagnosis from emetophobia to General Anxiety Disorder (although Im still terrified of you know what) because I worry about so much

Didnt help tho, when I saw her yesterday and she told me that some of her previous patients had had tummy bugs over Christmas. So now my New Years Eve is spent panicing about whether I've caught it from the door handles etc if they were still contagious

No idea if its a ploy on her part, but Im still in hell again

Plus 2009 has been a Annis Horriblis so all I want is it over and pray that 2010 is better all round

wiggleit · 06/01/2010 14:57

Hi everyone. Happy new year!!

CaptainRex - how are you? I too am glad to see the back of 2009. Let's hope 2010 is better for all of us.

Hugs to all! xx

naturopath · 09/01/2010 21:04

Hi Everyone

Wiggleit - sorry for not coming back on here - I tend to avoid it if pos to stop obsessing about this problem! DS was fine so must have been allergic reaction as suspected [phew!]..

Did anyone else see the news story today? Outbreak of vomiting bug at three Manchester hospitals. I'm getting scared already, even though I'min London - these things spread quickly. Didn't mean to frighten you all, but lots of handwashing etc. necessary as on high alert (as if we weren't all already!)

Happy new year, and let's hope the relative lack of these bugs so far this winter continues!

Donna81 · 10/01/2010 01:47

I cant believe there are actually other people on the planet who appear to be as petrified of v as me!! I havetwo children whom i constantly liberall wash with hand gel, Im always quizzing the eldest one about her proximity to ill classmates. I sterilised her lunch stuff in the babys sterilizer as her friend got ill & when hubby was sick we all went to my Mums!!! It TERRIFIES me!!!!! Roll on Summer!!

ineedapoo · 10/01/2010 15:29

Help DS V 3 times and DH away tomorrow 1/2 hour drive to school each way with dd I am panicing

ineedapoo · 10/01/2010 19:46

Now V 4 times oh I do hope school is snowed of so we don't have to go out I am really terrified

naturopath · 10/01/2010 20:15

ineedapoo - what are you worried about? ds being sick in the car? Can anyone come and help (take dd to school or look after ds)? I feel for you! These things always tend to happen when people away. Ds got a stomach bug a couple of years ago the very morning dh went away skiiing for 3 days - would have been awful except my mum came and picked us up and took us back to her house to stay..

How is everything now?

ineedapoo · 10/01/2010 20:37

DS V in car and it getting on me sad I knwo I hate being trapped near people V. Mum a long way away DD at a independant schooll not our local school

naturopath · 10/01/2010 20:47

hey, believe me, I understand - I would have exactly the same fear. I would maybe plan for it in the following way: cover car seat and ds in towels / whatever.. bring disposable rubber gloves and disinfectant with you in the car, and spare changes of clothes for him and you (and plastic bags). That way, if he's sick, you can quickly dispose of the lot without it getting too near you.
As it happens, ds has vd a couple of times in the car, and it was not nearly as bad as I would have feared. I v quickly took clothes off whilst looking the other way and careful not to touch anything iyswim..
chances are he'll be fine..
..or you could keep dd off school?? can you do a rota with someone?

ineedapoo · 10/01/2010 20:50

will keep dd off in really can't face the journey. I am v bad at asking for help !!!

ineedapoo · 11/01/2010 09:06

Thanks for the support yesterday not V since yesterday pm. Managed to get DD to school v proud of myself. Hopefully he can go back to school tomorrow as they have a 24 hour exclusion policy. Just hope the rest of us avoid it about to start a cleaning session as he is happily building lego

naturopath · 11/01/2010 10:01

well done!! v proud of you. sounds like all getting more positive from here on. Hope all ok today - panic on here again if need be!
