don't change time of day til you know how it affects you - absolutely cannot relate to those who talk of feeling sleepy and sleeping all the time - I wish! A side-effect with some, inc me, is insomnia which is why they tend to recommend taking them in the morning. If you're okay sleepwise, and they affect you in other ways during the day it may be good to change the time.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 14:57

i think ill levae it to see how i sleep tonight if i dont sleep then ill change it to evening becasue i got a rush of tiredness a an hour or two after i took the pill but it seems to be fading a little until i yawn then it comes back! very strange!

i take 40mg and they work for me.... i didnt have any side affects and my dr assures me they are not addictive. if your dr has prescribed them, obviously you need them.. if you had a constant headache and went to the dr and he prescribed a tablet to help.... wouldnt you take it?

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 18:41

Im not feeling so bad about being pescribed them now i guess i thought id sort of failed by being put on them but your right if they work then why not?
I am having some side effects but he did say its totally normal for the first couple of weeks and that i should go back if i feel its not working right.
Time will tell i guess.

you shouldnt feel a failure for having to take ad there is s much pressure on us nowadays to bring up children a certain way, go back to work, keep children busy all the time.... years ago this wasnt the case. depression wasnt talked about like it is now, that doesnt mean less people had it.. if all you have to do is take pill to get through the days a bit easier, is that so much of a big deal. it isnt for me!

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 18:48

Thats a good way to see it i suppose. Its just going to take some getting used to i guess. People think becasue of my age i shouldnt have any stress

DRESSMEUP · 03/06/2008 18:51

why?? all kinds of people of all different backgrounds/ages etc feel low. you will get used to it, in fact you wont even think about it..... like having a wee when you first get up!!

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 18:54

WR, someone told me to look at it this way. People take lots of different medication for different reasons. People take insulin for diabetes, pills for thyroid problems, paracetomol for headaches. They all take these to make them better...just like you and I and many others are taking ADs to make us better. It made sense to me!

DRESSMEUP · 03/06/2008 18:57

it will be interesting to have a conversation with you in a couple of weeks time, after you have been on them for a while....

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 19:08

why? Do i sound like im crazy and waiting to be normal? lol

OP posts:
DRESSMEUP · 03/06/2008 19:11

lol of course not... i just mean i think you will think differently about them after you have been on them for a couple of weeks.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 19:13

lol i got it. I proberly will i suppose like i said its just going to take some getting used to.

it is good, hope it's helpgin, wilted. My problem is sleep - have to take trazedone as well at night so I get some sleep and I really hate it, massively dehydrates me, makes me have hot sweats, weird dreams etc. I'd like just to be on citalopram but the couple of nights i tried without the trazedone I only slept 1 hour. anyone else find htis?

Pipsicle · 10/06/2008 21:44

TWR - I felt exactly like you about taking them but bit the bullet and within a week started to feel much more like my old self.

Initially I took them in the morning but struggled with sleep so within a few days swopped to the evening and sleep much better.

My side effects were sleeplessness mainly and a dry mouth but these went within a week or so.

Stick with it. I started them in March due to PND and I moved house about 3 weeks after starting them and although it was early days for the pills they soooo helped. Life is definitely much easier once they start working and I have only just had a couple of low days and nothing like I had before.

Hope this helps.

xx

that's interesting. They help you sleep? I sleep v badly so my doc told me to takethem in the morning so that they wouldn't affect myu sleep. confused now...

I had a rather extreme bad reaction to citalopram (I went from very depressed to manic within four hours of taking only 10mg!) but I'm told this is very rare - I came off them almost immediately after only two days but it took several months to stabilise properly. It's actually quite reassuring to read so many people saying such positive things about it, because obviously my GP was right to prescribe it and definitely not his fault that I had such an unusual response, especially to such a low dose.
