Like someone's switched the light on

Like your head isn't muddled and you can get on with everyday things as if they are everyday things instead of them seeming like they need a huge effort and that they are not really worth the effort anyway

Like you can look forward to stuff and enjoy things without that hopeless feeling looming

For me anyway...

wotulookinat · 03/06/2008 11:51

Hi thewiltedrose. I've been on citalopram for about 6 months now and it has made a massive difference to my life, in a good way. The side effects were a bit unnerving to start with, but they wore off. Stick with it I still have off days, of course, and I still have disturbing thoughts, but I'm no longer scared that I am going to do something silly, and I now want to interract with my son.

TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 11:57

And if you can handle your hangover today, TWR, then you can handle the side effects of the Citalopram.

They are not that bad and they are not constant, i.e. you are not likely to feel nauseous all day, you will prob just get waves of. When it comes, take it easy. It won't last long

Each day you are getting closer to the end of feeling this way.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 12:21

euuugh i feel so tired all of a sudden but it cant be the pills its only my second day!

OP posts:
thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 12:31

Is it right that he said come back in 8 weeks to let me know how its going? Shouldnt there be a closer eye kept?

OP posts:
wotulookinat · 03/06/2008 12:37

The side effects can last a few weeks (2 or 3) but the positive effects might not kick in forthree or four weeks, so 8 weeks is ok to go back to the doc. You can always go back before that if you feel that you want to. My doc saw my two weeks later, but all docs work differently, I guess.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:24

does it really take that long to feel any differnt?

OP posts:
TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 13:30

Hmm...suppose all situations are different, but my GP wanted to see me after 2 weeks to check that I wasn't feeling worse (other than side effects already mentioned).

All was ok, so she is seeing me again in 4 weeks.

Always says to go back sooner if I need to tho.

Eight weeks straight off does seem a very long time, but I might be wrong. What have others here experienced ?

I felt nauseous the first day and very tired and headachey by the second, TBH.

I reckon I am starting to feel the positive effects already (calmer, a bit brighter) and I am on week 4 now. GP said 4 to 6 weeks for them to have full effect then we will review if the dosage is right.

TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 13:31

You are perfectly entitled to see another GP if you are not happy with what you have been told, TWR.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:35

I feel very tired right now and little queasy but i thought that might be my hangover but its never thid bad

TWR, I hope the doctor told you that you have to eat properly with any tablets or the side effects will be really bad ie sickness. I know you think I'm nagging at you, nut I care. No-one can live on fresh air and enery drinks You must look after yourself as well as those lovely boys!!

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:46

Eek i knew youd tell me off for something!
Im currentl being had a go at by nappieaddict to so i will take your advice and try and eat something today to see if it makes me feel btter.

OP posts:
thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:48

Its easier to eat when you know you have enough to last you the next two months!
Its hard for me to eat properly when i have to make sure the boys do.
And anyway you know me im dizzy as hell id forget to go toilet if i could!

OP posts:
TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 13:48

Yes. Yawn ing and the kind of tiredness like early pregnancy, that you just NEED to sleep.

Very familiar. Fresh air helps. Could you go for a short walk ? I know it's prob the last thing you feel like doing, but it will prob wake you up a bit.

Or can you sleep ? Don't know whether you have your DCs home or at school atm ?

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:50

Both dcs are at home im hoping ds2 will go down for a nap soon becasue then i can go to bed with ds1 who will happily doze if it means he can go to bed later!

TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 13:50

Do you like porridge ?

Cheap as anything and very filling/gives you loads of energy.

Personally I don't like the stuff

TiggerTonkerTruck · 03/06/2008 13:52

Sounds totally normal to me

Like everyone says I would give them a good three weeks before you get back to normal.
You will probably have some weird thoughts, again totally normal the tablets are obviously working on the right part of your brain and are just re-adjusting things.

Not sure what dose you are on but I have just lowered mine because I was very sleepy and although they were doing wonders I couldn't put up with the extreme tiredness. It can all be altered and messed about with,so don't worry. Just try and get through this bit and if they work as well as mine did you'll be a different person.x.

TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 13:52

Eat something, then have a nap.

You will sleep better.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:53

im on 20mgs

OP posts:
TiggerTonkerTruck · 03/06/2008 13:53

Oh and I found gaviscon very helpful for the sicky bit,ice cubes/lolly if you get a dry mouth and plenty of water.x.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:54

i have porridge yes i will try some of that if it goes down my throat (feels like a golf balls in there! )and a nap.

Ill try it for a week and then if i still feel so ire i try taking them at night instead is that allowed to change?

OP posts:
TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 13:55

i'm on 20 mg too.

This won't last forever.

you just need to muddle through this bit

TiggerTonkerTruck · 03/06/2008 13:55

Thats what I started on and now what I am back to. 40 was way too much for me.

Hopefully then the sleepy bit will just be the short term side effect and will wear off. Remember also if your body is begining to relax its only right you should feel tired.Don't feel guilty for having a nap its your bodies why of recovering after all of the stress that you have had.

thewiltedrose · 03/06/2008 13:55

i dont drink tp water and have no bottled water in but ill have lots of tea or something tho coz my mouth feels so dry

OP posts:
TheodoresMummy · 03/06/2008 13:56

I take them in the morning, but some people here take them in the evening to help with the tiredness.

Might be a good idea actually as you might get a great nights sleep.
