I don't know whether or not I have got depression. I have never been to a Dr etc.

I am always snappy. I find it hard to get through a day without shouting at DH or the kids. I know I'm not the nicest person to live with at the moment and I've been like this for months.

I lost my Dad suddenly 2.5yrs ago. Since then my life seems pointless. I was very close to my lovely Dad. There's been many a time I could have craved a shoulder....

I have two lovely daughters whom I adore. I have a husband who I have been married to for 14yrs. I do love him but not in the same way I used to, iyswim. He tolerates the way I am but thats about it. He doesn't know what to say to me anymore. We just seem to plod along with life.

We are permanently skint. DH has a very good job but with a mortgage etc etc we live very much borderline. I work from home - but I hope to go back to a 'normal' job when dd2 starts school in September although finding a job that will allow for school hols/inset days etc will be hard to find.

I have no family help with the kids at all. DH has nothing to do with his parents (long story) and my family are too busy doing their own thing.

I feel so lonely sometimes. I feel like shutting myself away. I love to read and could read all day if I could. I see it is a form of escapism. Get into a good book and forget about our worries.

I am on the pill - have been since dd2 was born - I wonder if that is causing me to be so miserable? I don't know.

I am overweight - have been for years - I am always trying to lose it - I lose some then put it back on. I know my weight plays a major part in how I feel. Vicious circle because I eat when I feel miserable.

Does anyone know of anything herbal I could take to help pick me up? I don't want to go to the Drs. Thanks.

I think most DHs arnt. I think that it is easier to do a load of stuff together.

DHJ was always more competant at bathing - I had sections, so he did most of the bending etc initially

whispywhisp · 21/04/2008 17:23

Well..we walked home from school this afternoon, got absolutely soaked, so put them both in the bath as soon as we got in the door. They've had their teas and are now sat eating a bowl of strawberries each. So all that is left is teeth, story and bed and its not even 6pm! Not bad eh? No doubt a complete one off....

thats good going whispy - DD went to bed at 10pm apparently last night - in my absence, so i didnt care - will be a very different story tonight i can tell you How are you feeling?

VaginaShmergina · 23/04/2008 19:43

Hello Ladies, how are you all doing ?

Manage an early night for the kids anyone ?

My DD just got in from Brownies and DS has now decided he does not need to goto bed earlier than his sister anymore !!

lucyellensmum · 23/04/2008 22:55

how are you today whispy?

VaginaShmergina · 24/04/2008 18:39

Hi Whispy, how are you doing ?

Was DD1 off today ? Think all our schools were in so we were quite lucky.

whispywhisp · 25/04/2008 12:59

Hi Lucy & Vag. xxxx

I'm ok thanks. Feeling happier in myself. Especially today having got into a pair of jeans I couldn't get into just a few weeks ago so the diet efforts are working! Having said that I'm sat here with a mug of hot choccie...got to have my chocolate fix somehow.

No DD1 wasn't off school yesterday with the strikes, fortunately - there were however some schools around here that did close but not hers.

DD2 has suddenly start to learn to read. She's really keen and being only 4yrs old (Feb) we've not really encouraged her to read but she's begging us to let her learn so this week I've spent some time with her with some Jolly Phonics and I'm amazed at how quickly she's picking it up. She's also been doing some maths - counting and adding up. Maybe its because she's got an older sister who is a real bookworm and loves to learn. I don't know. But it certainly doesn't come from me!

Hope you're both ok. xxxx

hi whispy, good to hear you are feeling better Wish i could say my diet was going so well - just ate second slice of lemon drizzle cake , but it is soooo good, even if i do say so myself.

I'm going to try and get a referral for gym membership - quite looking forward to that.

I feel good today too

VaginaShmergina · 25/04/2008 19:22

Hello girls, if you need to off load the lemon drizzle lucy I can have the kettle on in a jiffy !!

Glad to hear your a bit brighter Whispy, hopefully things are on the up and the cloud is lifting for you !! Keep up the good work with the weight loss and Lucy, I learnt when I was on strict weightwatchers to change my way of thinking.

Before when I'd have a naughty breakfast I would say "oh well, thats today shafted best carry on being naughty!" where as when I was doing WW if i did slip at brekkie I kicked myself up the arse and got back on track straight away. Part of WW is writing things down, have you tried that ?

lucyellensmum · 25/04/2008 21:02

lol vag - i'm not sure writing down "i have eaten a whole lemon drizzle cake to myself" is going to help much

lucyellensmum · 25/04/2008 21:02

but i have done WW in the past and know that it does work

VaginaShmergina · 25/04/2008 21:35

But you could say " I did feel suitably guilty and will say 1000 hail marys this evening "!!!

whispywhisp · 26/04/2008 11:47

Hi you two. I find if I write down each evening what I've eaten that day it makes me stick to a healthy diet because I hate writing down .. chocolate, biscuits, cakes, crisps etc - so its a good feeling writing down bananas, apples etc.

Yes the diet is working but I'm also feeling better as a result which is great. Less aches and pains, more energy and far more patience and understanding with the kids which I think is a knock on effect of feeling happier in myself.

I've done loads of exercise this week too. My poor dog is a good 2" shorter and she's had to endure wind, rain and the odd heavy hail storm. I walk the kids to school, which is a good 3miles by the time I get back home. Then out again during lunchtime for a power walk (ie a walk I can do without two kids lagging behind me) and then out again at 3pm for the trudge to school...another 3 miles round trip. Yes it hurts like hell - I've discovered muscles I didn't know I had but I'm walking through the pain of them straining and enjoying it to the full.

I'm just off to Sainsburys to buy a few bits of groceries (not a lot...DH got a 'basic' month this month...ie no commission etc....so we're even more skint than normal!) but I'm going to walk down rather than take the car - that'll be a good 2 mile walk.

I've never considered joining a gym mainly due to the cost plus embarrassment of showing how unfit I am! I used to play a lot of squash, which I absolutely loved, but a car accident put paid to that which is why I do so much walking. Thank goodness I have a dog - she gets me out. xx

VaginaShmergina · 26/04/2008 15:35

Bloody hell Whispy, well done, all that walking!!

You'll waste away to nowt in no time. Bit stressful DH bringing home the basic bacon this month. Jacket spud with beans for you for the month, will help the pennies and the diet (and your constitution !)

Lillee has had some bad news in the hall, thought you might like to know seeing as I have not seen you in there for a while.

lucyellensmum · 26/04/2008 15:40

i'm impressed with the walking - i love to get out and walk without DD, doesnt happen very often. I am going to try and get on a refferal scheme for a gym - i have been flamed to hell on a AIBU thread about this as i want to start running again but i can't do it outside just now, i dont have the confidence

VaginaShmergina · 26/04/2008 19:16

lucyellensmum, just found your thread and posted !!!

CinderellaInCyberspace · 26/04/2008 19:28

hello whispy
think I will join you on the food diary, very tired tonight but had to say hi so to speak, take care all

whispywhisp · 27/04/2008 12:42

Hi all.

Nice to see you've popped in on this thread - thank you! LEM - I've posted on your thread too.

I'm ok. Very tired for some reason. Probably the diet and more exercise. Just off out now to take the dog out. Going to do a walk which means running up a flight of steps up the side of a hill. Its only about 50 steps but the more I do it the less it hurts! There was a time I'd have to stop half way up to get my breath. Now I can do all the steps in one go. Its a real boost.

Failed dismally.

Anyway Whispy, how are you me old duck on the damp morning. You got the horrendous downpours we getting ?

whispywhisp · 28/04/2008 12:50

Oh, I see!

So far so good here weather-wise. Have managed to get a long line of washing dry. Second lot is out but I'm sure it'll end up on the airer in the bathroom later on today. We've had some dreadful weather forecast but so far its been ok.

Yes I'm ok. Half way thru a bloody good book - the new Jeffery Archer one - it is a real can't-put-down book.

Any news re the house? Lucy - how are you? xx

OP posts:
VaginaShmergina · 28/04/2008 17:32

Hello Whispy, glad you been motivated to do the washing, well done. How many miles have you done today ?

Well Whipsy the house is turning out to be one hell of a saga eh !!

We are now waiting for the buyers surveyor to communicate with our surveyor (we paid to have a survey done at the buyers request as the house had subsidence back in the 80's) The buyers lot want to confirm the house is not just about to fall down and is OK to lend against.

Really bloody dragging on but maybe, just maybe we will be put out of our misery this week

The buyer works for the Abbey so therefore all his work (solicitor and surveyor) are in house and all in a massive call centre where noone appears to give a toss. He does not have to pay so, of course nobodly is in any hurry !!

Ho hum, pain in the bum. DH just looked over my shoulder and he said bordering on suicidal !! It aint that bad really, however I have peely skin all over my face and ears, have been told its down to stress, thank god I thought I was turning into some kind of snake !!

whispywhisp · 29/04/2008 11:37

Hiya Vag...good luck with the house business this week - what a nightmare.

I'm ok thanks. Only done about 3 miles so far today. I'm helping out at DD1's school this afternoon and whereas I'd normally nip up in the car I'm going to walk up, then when finished walk to pick up DD2 from nursery and then walk back up to pick up DD1 from school. Round trip of about 5 miles. Its pouring with rain here so that'll be fun!

Re your skin problem - I have a mate that has exactly the same problem when she gets stressed. Weird how stress can affect you in different ways. Me? I just head for the biscuit box...well, I used to, not now...I have to resort to a banana! xxxx
