Could Psilocybin cure mental health issues?

NC

I watched a couple of really interning films this weekend. One was 'Fantastic Fungi" and another was 'Magic medicine'. Both were talking about the effects that Psilocybin can have on curing mental health.

(For anyone that does'nt know what Psilocybin is - its the active ingredient in magic mushrooms)

There was an interesting study in the U.K with macrodosing ( large quantities) and I think one is Canada has just started.

I have seen quite a few sites on macro dosing - very small doses ( not enough to get high) and people have been saying that its massively improved their lives.

Psilocybin is actually illegal in this country and thats why its been so hard to even get permission to have these trials/studies.

I am just wondering if people have heard of this or what their views on it were

Thank you

I spawned a few popcorn tek jars last week and they are doing phenomenal. I have decided to stick to this method for now as it's SO quick. Took me 3 months to get one brown rice pf tek cake colonised but in 12 days I've colonised a jar of corn and spawned it to coir. It's taken so well I've just put it to fruit today.

Well done, Mcscreamy!

PerseverancePays · 08/02/2022 20:03

Thank you, I'm sure I can do that.

Time to stop scrolling and start doing!

@8lue8ird

I swear by microdosing. Has changed my life. And to be honest the amounts I take, don't have any psychedelic effects whatsoever since it is a very small dosage.

I spent a long time researching and found an online seller and also found a Dutch website that sells the home kits.

Hi @8lue8ird , can you say the name of the Dutch supplier please?
Juliecloud · 12/02/2022 01:17

I’m so tempted to try micro dosing after reading this thread!

Featuredcreature · 12/02/2022 02:38

I would love to try but the growing instructions bake my brain, could I have the Dutch supplier too?

Which guide did you follow? I have always wanted to try but never had the chance.

This thread is fascinating..! Definitely want to try this. Thank you @McScreamysGhostPants for sharing your wisdom it's amazing! Hope to try this at some point

CrumpetswithMarmite · 12/02/2022 04:53

Also I assume when foraging for wild liberty caps there must be a need to read up on dangerous 'do not touch' ones. I'd always be scared of poison myself by picking the wrong ones!

McScreamysGhostPants · 12/02/2022 07:42

@CrumpetswithMarmite

There are lots of field guides that can help and places like Reddit have some very disturbed foragers that offer their ID skills.

I'm so glad people have found it interesting. I have to admit found my journey absurdly fascinating and had no idea it would be such a worm hole

Juliecloud · 12/02/2022 12:39

Do you eat them raw? Or cook them?
Sorry, I am totally clueless about these things!

McScreamysGhostPants · 12/02/2022 19:58

@Juliecloud

I finely chop them and eat them raw. Mixing them with a a spoon of honey helps. They are like super charged mushroom flavour. Very earthy. You can dehydrate them but they lose stunting in the drying process. They still work but if I had to compare it it's like fresh is the real experience and dried is like remembering it and looking at movies and photos. Still fun but not the same.

@McScreamysGhostPants - I'm wondering if you can answer a question about temperatures? My "sprinkle bag" from sporebuddies isn't showing any sign of mycelium yet. I'm not sure if I've killed it, or if it's just taking a while to get going. I had engineered a "heating system" for the first 7 days, which comprised of a hot water bottle, several layers of insulation, and then the bag on top. It seemed to get to a max of about 28 (maybe 29 at a push), and dropping to about 22, but was mostly at about 24-26 degrees. The instructions were to mix the grain thoroughly on day 7. I noticed then that the grains at the bottom of the bag looked dry. There was plenty of humidity elsewhere in the bag. I've reconfigured the heating system so that there's even more insulation between the hottie and the bag, so the max temp is about 2 degrees cooler (min temp doesn't seem much different). I'm on day 12 and there's still no sign of growth, and again the grains at the bottom look a tiny bit dry. What would be your guess? Have I killed the spores with too much heat, or are they growing slowly? Should I keep going with it? If it makes any difference, I chose b+ as I've heard it's quite resilient.

I don't think you've killed then but I would be very careful going above 25c as that is the cut off point. The good thing about a hot water bottle is that it radiates heat so it likely won't have penetrated the entire bag at that temperature, just the boy it came into contact with. Don't be too concerned with warmth, they will colonise at room temperature, it will just take longer. It can take a few (2-3 weeks) until you can see mycelium.

SobranieCocktail · 18/02/2022 10:16

Thanks McScreamy. I'm at the 14 day mark with no sign of myc yet, but will persist!

McScreamysGhostPants · 18/02/2022 10:48

When you inoculate jars it's best to aim the syringe at the glass. Then you see the myc straight away. With bags the syringe goes straight in so the myc often takes a lot longer to grow out to the bag. It will come good, if not I'll see if I can sort you out a syringe. Also, on fb is a great group called boobies for cubies. It's a female group for help and advice and they do give aways of spore prints etc. deffo worth a look. Reddit have a shroom section that is really good to.

SobranieCocktail · 22/02/2022 16:01

A few rye grains have got white bits on them! I'm feeling hopeful! Going to check out that FB group Grin

McScreamysGhostPants · 22/02/2022 19:59

@SobranieCocktail

Excellent news! It came take a while to see anything and it's really easy to become disheartened. Some strains are much more aggressive too and others, like penis envy, are much slower.

I've spent the last few days pouring agar plates and transferring mycelium. Also created some of my very first liquid culture jars so if they work I never have to buy those stains ever again. I'll just have my little starter coming on the go permanently. Also birthed a brown rice cake today after noticing that it was frosting tiny little mushrooms inside the jar. Hoping for mushrooms by Sunday/Monday. Capsules are fine but fresh are so much better. I've added some pics of the cage and the teeny mushys

And just to clarify, that jar is one of the shamans gift that I inoculated on the 20th (ish) of January. So 1 month to almost total colonisation for it to be birthed into the fruiting chamber.

SobranieCocktail · 23/02/2022 07:18

That looks amazing! What makes you're grow so quickly, do you think? Is it a temperature thing?

McScreamysGhostPants · 23/02/2022 11:28

I think it's part temperature. Mine is kept at 24-25c all the time and that helps. The steadier the better. Also with inoculation, it starts slow and really increases quickly. Like a snowball rolling down a hill.

McScreamysGhostPants · 02/03/2022 19:33

Any more growth @SobranieCocktail ?

SobranieCocktail · 02/03/2022 19:44

Thanks for checking in! 😊 I've actually upgraded my set up. I now have a heat mat, and have created a sort of cloche (plastic box covered in bubble wrap) to try and envelop the bag in warmer air. The bag's raised off the mat with takeaway tubs and seems to be at a steady 24C. It's been like this for about three days, and the growth is definitely accelerating (although that could just be a natural snowball effect?). The little clumps of myc look quite chunky, which I think is a good thing?

I've also managed to procure a little bag of dried "treasure cove". I eyeballed a microdose in Monday, and didn't feel much other than quite tired/relaxed and hungry. It reminded me of being stoned. I felt a bit grotty the next day. Hadn't slept very well, and felt almost a bit hungover, which I wasn't expecting. It could be hormonal though.

I have an unusually quiet, kid free house tomorrow, and I'm planning on taking a light "proper" dose (maybe 0.75g?). I'm hoping I'm not going to freak out!

McScreamysGhostPants · 02/03/2022 20:47

Ooooh I love an upgrade! I've been busy myself this week. Doing lots of agar transfers and started my first liquid cultures which have gone so well I have too much of it already. I'm amazed tbh. I've got two cakes fruiting right now so keeping everything crossed for harvesting at the weekend. I haven't had dry in twelve days and for me nothing compares to fresh, it's a totally different thing. Hoping to have a constant supply or stock in the fridge and I can give the extra dry stuff I have to my sister.

I don't sleep well if I take mine after 11am /noon ish. My dreams are always very bizarre and extra vivid. It does make me feel really relaxed and different strains can have different effects. I'm up to 8 or 9 strains now and my favourite is shamans gift and b+ . Up to now anyway! I'm lucky I don't get hang over feelings but my sister gets a mild head ache across the back of her head. The benefits are still worth it for her though.
