For anyone starting out on this drug...

Hey all,

I had headaches too and took paracetamol. I didn't seek medical advice but took them anyway. I had a quick google and it says it's fine but be careful of aspirin and ibuprofen.

@BillStickersIsInnocent - welcome! I was prescribed exactly the same medications as you. I found that taking sertraline at the beginning would make me agitated so took 2mg of diazepam with it which helped. Zopliclone worked like magic for sleeping.
I started to feel better around 4.5 weeks. Getting some bits done now. Working a bit more and getting out and about. It just takes time x

Marshmallow26 · 26/07/2020 19:56

4 days in to upping to 100mg and my head been banging every afternoon! Have a 1 year old so that doesn't help them, hoping these will subside in a week or 2.. Also struggling with frequently waking in the night, trying to stick to my routine and not nap in the day but not easy with a teething 1 year old!

MariposaPink · 26/07/2020 19:57

I did same before but nobody responded (perhaps because nobody is experiencing it) but has anybody found that they have tender breasts since taking sertraline?

MariposaPink · 26/07/2020 19:57

*ask not same!

Lottie124 · 26/07/2020 20:09

@MariposaPink I’ve not experienced tender breasts, pretty much every other side effect but not that one!
@Marshmallow26 day three of upping to 75mg and I’ve also been waking up so much at night! I’m shattered also I have a two year with major terrible twos lol

Does anyone still suffer from intrusive thoughts? They are not as frequent but still pop into my head at times! Hoping it will pass the longer I go on ?

Makingachange2019 · 26/07/2020 20:10

No I haven't. Have you asked your gp?
MariposaPink · 26/07/2020 20:19

@Makingachange2019 - I did raise it with my GP because my left breast is more tender than my right.

I did have a miscarriage 2 months ago (second one in 6 months) so she suggested it may be hormonal rather than the sertraline. But because of my anxiety and needing some peace of mind, she's referred me for a breast scan. Appointments are taking a little longer to come through due to COVID but I was hoping someone would tell me that they have this as a side effect too so I can feel a little at ease.

MariposaPink · 26/07/2020 20:21

@Lottie124 - I have intrusive thoughts less frequently now. When I do, I put on my hypnotherapy which helps me.

MariposaPink · 26/07/2020 21:42

I just found this on Mayoclinic. Hoping this is just what it is.

Gonna ring pharmacist today to see what they suggest for the headaches. How long did they last for you guys? Apart from that just having some nausea which is bearable

Marshmallow26 · 27/07/2020 09:00

@vampyhooch Please let me know what they suggest, paracetamol aren't touching my headaches..

I will do! How long have you had the headaches? Feels like my head is in a vice... this will be my 4th day of taking them! X

@Marshmallow26 just spoken to them. They said paracetamol are fine. Ibuprofen in low doses. Cocodamol is ok if needed but can make you drowsy and just to be mindful because sertraline makes you drowsy too!

Very confusing though as online it says only take paracetamol ... hmm

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 27/07/2020 09:45

I had the dreaded Sertraline heartburn the other night - took it and laid down too quickly so spent half the night awake before finally finding a thread here and eating an apple which eased it.

However, five days on and I still have persistent heartburn. I've been taking the stuff for about four years - can you suddenly develop side effects or have I actually damaged myself?

Marshmallow26 · 27/07/2020 10:03

@vampyhooch day 5 of the 100mg had them the past 4 days, it's just a dull headache but makes me feel like I just want to lay in bed! Hoping they will subside soon! Sticking with it because it took a week or 2 for other side effects to go after starting the 50mg

Vampyhooch · 27/07/2020 10:38

@MariposaPink
Hope it eases for you soon! Other than the headache and a bit of nausea the side effects aren’t too bad at the moment. I’m on 50mg.

Vampyhooch · 27/07/2020 10:39

Sorry message above meant for @Marshmallow26

Vampyhooch · 27/07/2020 10:39

@MariposaPink did the sertraline help the Depersonalization?

Makingachange2019 · 27/07/2020 13:18

I am soooo cold and soooo hungry! Really hoping these side effects ease soon 😣

Vampyhooch · 27/07/2020 13:41

I am the opposite warm but hungry all the time too!
MariposaPink · 27/07/2020 15:04

@Vampyhooch - yes they did help with the depersonalisation. I'm feeling very much more like myself nowadays. I've had a couple of personal issues to deal with and they didn't bring on any massive anxiety, just a slightly raised heartbeat which is standard when someone p*sses you off. With some meditation that soon passed. It will get better Thanks

Cusano34 · 27/07/2020 15:12

Hi all! Just started this today at 8am and feel so sick and dizzy I’ve taken myself to bed...has anyone else had this? Would it happen that quick? Sorry I can’t read the whole thirst my two year old is demanding so much attention today 🤦‍♀️

Lottie124 · 27/07/2020 15:43

@Cusano34 my side effects came the day after I took it in the evening! So pretty much straight away! What are you experiencing? The first few Weeks I found the hardest! I’ve just upped to 75mg and had a few side effects again but not as bad x

Cusano34 · 27/07/2020 17:23

@Lottie124 I’m feel so nauseous and dizzy! Everything feels like it’s in slow mo when I move my head and I can’t really talk without feeling like I’m going hurl! 🤦‍♀️😫 The doctor did warn me I may feel a bit rough for a few days! Are you feeling better now? Are they helping? X

Vampyhooch · 27/07/2020 17:23

@MariposaPink that’s great they helped with the Depersonalization, how long did they take to kick in for you?

Feeling a bit low today, not sure if that’s a side effect or not 🙁
