For anyone starting out on this drug...

I've not read the full thread (I will) but just wondering if anybody on sertraline breastfeeds? I've been prescribed it but I'm wary to take it due to breastfeeding. The doctor did say the chances of it passing through and posing a risk are minimal but my anxiety wont let go of the risk!

MariposaPink · 24/07/2020 15:04

@BorderlineBob - @umbongo1 breastfed for 2 years on sertraline and @ShyOwl is pregnant so has received the ok from midwives. I personally was prescribed sertraline as DH and I were ttc so I'd say it's pretty common with mums-to-be and breastfeeding mama's.

@Vampyhooch - oh the depersonalisation is awful. The sertraline has helped me. The first time I had anxiety (7 years ago) I was prescribed Citalopram and I was anxious about taking it which was ironic because it was to help my anxiety. In the end a friend who had been on them once before told me I would be perfectly fine, that it wasn't going to kill me so that's when I started. But I'd held on to them for 2 weeks already and I wished I started them as soon as I'd got them. So I do understand your thinking. If you're feeling this way already, it can only get better.

@Lottie124 - fingers crossed! Hoping the increase helps you.

ShyOwl · 24/07/2020 15:18

Hi @BorderlineBob as @MariposaPink mentioned I'm pregnant, and been given the okay, I have a friend who currently breastfeeds and also on it.
Both the midwife and mental health team have said it's the most commonly prescribed.
I have only started back on the tablets today, due in 9 weeks but plan to continue taking it once LO arrives as I did have pnd with my daughter

MariposaPink · 24/07/2020 16:08

@Marshmallow26 - great to hear that you are beaming with confidence! That's fab news! Long may it last. A positive report back gives us all hope. Smile

Vampyhooch · 24/07/2020 19:08

@MariposaPink

Yes it’s definitely the most worrying symptom for me I hate it. I get it pretty much all the time. Still no sign of side effects from first tablet other than feeling hotter than normal x

Makingachange2019 · 24/07/2020 21:17

Hey everyone,

I've taken my first tablet tonight. I feel so nervous about the side effects!

Hey how are you feeling? I’ve taken my first one this morning and feel ok at the moment
ShyOwl · 24/07/2020 23:18

@Makingachange2019 & @Vampyhooch
Hope your both doing okay?
I've taken my first this morning. Felt a bit funny a few hours later, heart racing and really warm. But not sure if that was a side effect or anxiety about taking them!

Head feels slightly wired now as I'm trying to sleep, might give up trying for a bit and get up for a while

Yorkshiremummyof1 · 24/07/2020 23:21

Not loving this insomnia. I was in bed all day I was so tired and now I’m wide awake. I didn’t aleep I just rested and now I can’t break the cycle

Vampyhooch · 25/07/2020 00:30

@ShyOwl

I had a period of feeling really warm too but it’s passed a bit now. Been quite busy today but feel wide awake! Hope you manage to get some sleep?

ShyOwl · 25/07/2020 07:38

@Vampyhooch I did eventually thanks, heard a strange noise outside so went to have a nosey and there was a hedgehog chilling, sat at watched it for a bit before trying again, how about you?

Makingachange2019 · 25/07/2020 07:53

Morning everyone,

I had absolutley crazy dreams last night! I feel like I haven't rested, if that makes sense? Is that a side effect?

I also started with a really annoying tickly cough about an hour after taking it. Is that just a coincidence?

I was expecting to feel very sick as I'm really sensitive to drugs. But I haven't so far 🤞

I hope you're all doing OK 😊

Vampyhooch · 25/07/2020 09:15

@ShyOwl

Yes I did eventually drop off to sleep woke a couple of times but managed to get a few hours in. Glad you managed to get some sleep. How are you feeling today?

Vampyhooch · 25/07/2020 15:54

Hows everyone feeling today?

Lottie124 · 25/07/2020 16:13

Great that you haven’t got nausea. I felt a bit sick last night with a headache and this morning. Felt quite groggy when I woke up a bit lightheaded as if I had a hangover 🤔🤨 it’s passed a bit now. Taken my third dose this morning
BillStickersIsInnocent · 26/07/2020 16:39

Please can I join? I’ve been reading this thread and it’s really helped me.

I’ve lived with anxiety, OCD and depression since I was about 10, so have a long history of it. I’ve been on sertraline before.

I’ve been feeling increasingly anxious and low over the last few weeks. Spoke to my doctor last Monday who prescribed me sertraline again alongside Zopiclone and diazepam. On Friday she signed me off with for 3 weeks, which I’m trying to not feel guilty about.

Side effects include diarrhoea, feeling sick, tiredness and feeling shaky. But think easing a bit now.

Vampyhooch · 26/07/2020 16:53

Anyone had bad headache as a side effect? My head is banging at the moment :(

Lottie124 · 26/07/2020 17:52

Hi everyone, I upped my dose to 75mg three days ago! Feeling a little under the weather nothing major! Dry Mouth thirsty and slight increase in anxiety! I wonder how long it tAkes for a dose increase to take effect? I’m getting my self worried this drug ain’t going to work for me and I’ll have to start all over on another x

Lottie124 · 26/07/2020 17:52

@Vampyhooch yeah I’ve had headaches! Worse when I’m tired which is a lot of the time with a 2 year old! Lol

Vampyhooch · 26/07/2020 17:58

@Lottie124

The first day was ok. The last two days I’ve had an almost constant headache though. Different to the normal headaches I have hence me thinking it’s from the side effects ... any idea if things like paracetamol are ok to take alongside sertraline? Was gonna check with pharmacist but they’re not open today :(
