Here's a new thread for us.

OP posts:
shodatin · 05/05/2012 21:07

P.S will write more later, but must mention, my small contribution to festivities, cat celebrating, is actually now No. 4 on my Mn page. (really basic skills here...)

shodatin · 05/05/2012 22:42

Thanks for news of Financial Angel activity, and am so pleased it gave you some pleasure today, along with a woodland walk with your DH. It's good of him to think of helpful items for celebration weekend (particularly as I can think of so little) and will have a look at the link now.

shodatin · 05/05/2012 23:23

Northerners can't get excited about London, sorry but been avoiding it for about, well, a lot of years so I'm not really the person to give an opinion, although I did have a look at the Covent Garden page . Your woodland walk is a great deal more attractive, and would far rather see a deer than yet another mime (old misery emoticon).

Hope everyone got out today while sun shone, and no spoon shortages. Also hope upward's now winning the BattleoO and life is more relaxed this weekend.

Merivel · 06/05/2012 00:02

Grin I think we all know what you mean about mime, shodatin ! Where did you find the cats, shodatin?!!!GrinVery celebratory , indeed - have we all seen your Siamese cat bronze in 3rd picture

I do enjoy occasional visit to London but agree about preferring country ,too - easier now we have the internet & can tour tour museums or read archive documents or see watch performances online - what a miracle

Thanks again for cheering Angel . Hope you're not too exhausted , and
am echoing your hopes for our other lovely cybergardeners, especially that upward ccan have a good rest to help in the longer term than the curret BoO
< puts out Brews and hot choc with extra marsmallows , with huge t tin>

Merivel · 06/05/2012 00:03

Oops , apologies for repetition

shodatin · 06/05/2012 00:10

Thanks so much for hot chocolate Merivel, and for understanding about London. Can't remember where cat photo came from, probably same friend as Angel, but will try looking it up tomorrow as it was part of a series.
Am so tired now, hope all sleep well, goodnight.

Merivel · 06/05/2012 00:15

Hope you have a peaceful night , shodatin , Nilgiri and upward

< listens to beagley snores awhilst watching ndt regard moon >l

Nilgiri · 06/05/2012 00:55

Heh heh, saw your comment on Flickr, shodatin - flying canine definitely gifted in ear department... Love your springing cat on profile - and the siamese bronze is spectacular!

So glad your few moments gardening were productive. And after we've shown such differing tastes this week, I can whole-heartedly agree with you and Merivel in preferring country or small towns to London. Enjoying DH's suggestion of opera, M - would be suitable for our occasional night-wakings, and as inspiration that vincera (I will win) in the BoO?

Are you a country girl or big city lover, Upward? Very glad to hear you're now well recovered from the op, and hope you've been able to pace yourself with all the sorting out, though I'm sure it's frustrating. BTW, what's the latest with your front door? Have fingers crossed that its teething probs are now a thing of the past.

Merivel sounds like another achievement-full day, after which a bit of dormousing is absolutely the right answer. Hope you were curled up warm and snug.

shodatin · 06/05/2012 10:13

Lovely to hear from you Nilgiri, and glad you're not having to dormouse. Re my beagle comment, I didn't know it would be printed immediately (no experience here) and wish I'd thought to say it looks nervous too, although the photo's amazing and made me laugh. I do love my bronze cat, made by a friend and bought when my husband died and I was trying to sort finances but can't remember name of original (who liked to look out of London flat window, particularly at double-decker busses).
Thanks for vincera translation, useful one indeed, and hope you're winning all your own BoOs.
Espressos and upward's specials available, but sorry the cheesecake's gone - will make full-size now I've been told it would freeze.

Merivel · 06/05/2012 11:16

Flickr ? beagle ? Am I getting my leaping beasts mixed up !< off for another look , & foreyetest >

Amazing bronze Siamese - I recognize the pussycat-at-window scenarioSmile

Love , love love Nessun Dorma -for -dormice, Nilgiri , and Pavarotti . You have thought of the most perfect new sloganfor BoO ....hope we are all resting today ( I will have long lie-in later , thank you Nilgiri for solictoukind concern as evr )

For our visit to the opera , shall we dress up (and get our elegant chaise
longues , or is that chaises ) from the summerhouse cupboard for our return

Incredibly impressed that you braved the cold wind for some gardening, shodatin . Must admit it is cold even in softy land < adds new log to fire >

Isn't this cheering -don't worry about trawling through it , just the spread of commutity initiatives

shodatin · 06/05/2012 11:52

Wonderful news Merivel, and thanks for the link. Yesterday I came across the Trussell Trust, which I gather is one of the largest UK food charities, but much admire community-based initiatives for general life-style improvements and so pleased at the success.
Our local library closed as this community of around 6,000 could only find volunteers and not an administrator, or so we were told by the council - sad.

Merivel · 06/05/2012 12:08

Oh I am so angry to hear your local library closed , shodatin , and am sickened at the whole cuts agaenda - lying so and sos . How awful for you & local commumity .

Yes , Trussel Trust been in media quite a bit recently alerting public to many people needing its food parcels -I like reallycooperative & inventive initiatives as not necessarily letting the state off the hook ! We could set up little cooperatives in our cybergarden ?possibly innvolving food ...

HF has just offered to teleport us all on a leisurely outing , with no effort required .. what about some animals ?

< remembers unexpected meeting with an emu in a west country field >-

or perhaps a famous formal garden ? Both will have lounging & snacking opportunities Brew

Merivel · 06/05/2012 12:09

Sorry though , emu wasn't at MW - have never been there , or indeed to any large , famous gardens < excited >

shodatin · 06/05/2012 12:37

We've already made a start here, Merivel, exchanging seeds and plants for a whole year now! One of my favourite Friends' causes was when a charity was taking a van to E.Europe for a women/children's co-operative garden - they had space for one more shoebox and some clever person suggested we should send part-packets of spare seeds - lots of space for those and virtually no cost to donors, and I loved the idea of sharing my spare veg.
Also loved sharing stuff here, but shame about huge cost of postage to some of us, which isn't really fair.

Good idea to visit the opera all dressed up (no idea what's at back of wardrobe and under-bed chest for evening-wear) and also to visit famous garden.s.
Living in E.Anglia meant we visited most of them, as well as Open Gardens, but not a lot within an afternoon's drive in this area, so apart from Castle Howard and Harlow Carr at Harrogate, oh and a few in York area...
Would need more time for research, which wouldn't work if we're visiting today/Mon.
Will check monkeyworld after lunch/skyping, hopefully.

Nilgiri · 06/05/2012 15:58

How about Ightham Mote after MonkeyWorld, if that's somewhere you haven't been shodatin? It has lovely gardens as well as a gorgeous building, and was spectacularly restored a few years ago (covered by Time Team but taking a leetle more than 3 days).

And definitely agree with dressing up for the opera.

Merivel · 06/05/2012 16:19

< persuades emu into adjoining field >
Oooooooh , Nilgiri , Ingham Mote looks swoon-worthy &certainly gets my vote , thank you

The gardening and aid lorry are so good to hear of , shodatin , must have equired a lot of work on the one hand & downright sacrifice on the other .A comforting thing , I think ,to receiveseeds so directly shared with fellow gardenersSmile

Another ooooooh at shodatin - those gardens sound fascinating -will look up properly when get back from DN's 18th- the sun has suddenly come out for him !
Brews and apple drinks

< brings out rail of gowns and boxes of jewels > - emerald earrings , 8upward* ? a pearl choker ? bejewelled opera glasses , anyone ?

shodatin · 06/05/2012 17:40

Very happy to go to Ingham Mote after Monkey World, and dress up for opera, sounds like great fun.
I'd no idea it was your DNephew's birthday Merivel, so hope you all have a good time. Would this DN be the beagle-owner, by any chance? (Even more jealous of beagle than birthday party).
Have lots of choice for evening clothes, as long as they're black, it seems (many years since I got out at night), even nearly-new shoes and sandals still in original boxes, so will look forward to opera - when shall we go?

Merivel · 06/05/2012 21:49

Oh sorry I'd already gone thn , shodatin ...back from DNephew's 18th - the beagle's main human is realy his sister Smile I suck close to hound all through , and he was most impressive , what with all the tempting food around . At one point I fund Dh gently coaxing him down from atop table < Dettoxes everything >Was a very special, soppy littltime , vey precious especially to all the relatives who've missed other big occasions due to health problems
btw shodatin , I asked about beagle/trampoline & no , the yougsters hadn't been teasing me , hound had indeed bounced

Ah , we should definitely give your evening clothes and pretty sandals an outing - I expected to be back before now , & have been worried I'd missed the start of the opera . Shall we swan into a late performance , or try on different jewels and hairpieces as we listen to opera excerpts , reclining on our chaises longues ?

Merivel · 06/05/2012 21:50

Sorry , missing letters due to pc , not just dim humanGrinBrews ,and hope upward and Nilgiri are having a pleasant evening

shodatin · 06/05/2012 22:53

Lovely to hear about the family party, but surprised hound got on table - good for your DH for getting him down as they're not fussy eaters...

I'm just too tired to think about opera this evening, sorry but been watching TV for much longer than usual, plus insides are odd and flushing badly - TMI probably but can hardly put one thought in front of another tonight.

Hope other gardeners had a good day and that we're all looking forward to tomorrow - trips in time machine, opera and other celebrations already suggested. Night all, sleep well.

Merivel · 06/05/2012 23:50

So sorry for intestinal discomfort, shodatibn , and hope it's down to a simple cause ,despite slightly complex consequencesSadbut must be unsettling ,so I hope someone with experience can reassure you soon

Thank youfor today's celebrations and plans , and here are Brews all round . Beagle didn't jump on fully laden table , and was outdoors ,but hours of temptation overcame him on a very busy day - & Dh is very good with overexcited /stressed animals

Plenty of time for our Opera jaunts , especially as all cybergardeners are much more knowledgeable than this one . I like Handel , & someWagner , but am at knowledge level of a 4 year old

May I suggest a lesser-known piece I'e never heard for this election
night , La Triomphe de la Republique by Grossec, 1793Grin < clinks Brews and hot choc with all
< starts tidying to shake pretensiousness >

Nilgiri · 07/05/2012 00:17

Tired here too - and Merivel you must be beyond exhausted after your lovely exciting day. Definitely good idea to save opera for tomorrow. It's a bank holiday weekend, after all.

Night night all.

shodatin · 07/05/2012 09:36

so sorry, not well, back to bed.

Merivel · 07/05/2012 10:03

Oh , so sorry to see that , shodatin < goaty toes and healing wishes >Will send details of a website that might give you extra ideas- maybe tere are relatively minor adjustments thta could help , and GP's / specialist nurse can advise ?We're all hoping you'll feel much better soon

Sorry you're exhausted, Nilgiri , and for calling magnificent manor house "Ingham" Mote Blush. I think I remember it being on Time Team , but save those for a a "rainy" day- will have a look

Thank you for concern about tiredness -am having astonishingly less jelly-like time just atm so am able to overdo things and defer payment - due another outing today Shock to an event held only rarely not & hope we all have some nice times today , wherever we are be there . Am glad of frivolous stuff to take DH's mind off work and related dilemmas

Wishing us all extra spoons < HF brings teeny carved spoons to each cybergardener , to remind us of her disapproval of lack of fun due to tiredness and if we give her another helping of treats she will hunt her tail to amuse those o us forced to rest

Hope upward is allowing herself a proper rest & some little treats < fret fret >

I did feel guilty for bringng out all the stereotypically "women's" clothes & jewellery - nice trousery outfits on the rail too , but fun to play dressing up

< adds jet hair ornaments & evening gloves to trunk >

Merivel · 07/05/2012 10:04

sorry for superfluous "not" !
