Hope everyone sleeps well and wakes refreshed (including people who expected the world to end today). 'Night all.

cityhobgoblin · 22/05/2011 23:18

Hi all - where has today gone ? Been trying all day to catch up with myself & say hello Sad. Yes shodatin , that was a relief about Armageddon! Thank you for always remembering to say goodnight , & hope you've had a good day .

Sorry you're very sleepy TIANC , & hope you can still have little bouts of enjoyableness - so hard if you can't . < feels helpless when lovely thread people are having hard days >

Hope kizzie , madmouse , pixie & friends of snowmash's thread are well .

Hope snowmash had the chance to go to Church / chapel service today , though I know she misses her beautiful sung services . Hope you're feeling a fraction better physically , snowmash, & getting some time in the sunshine .

ThisIsANiceCage · 22/05/2011 23:35

Oh it's good, restful sleep after doing lots in the garden last week. So sorry to have worried you, hob.

But actually there's a potentially difficult week coming up, and it's kicked off early with phone calls already. I suppose it's only as difficult as I make, and if not too tired I shall sail through without killing anyone serenely.

Positive thoughts going out to everyone, including mouse family for whom Sundays are busy busy.

Night night all.

shodatin · 22/05/2011 23:40

Hello hob, am just here to say goodnight again, as I do even less than usual on Sundays. Hope you and everyone else here had a good day. ' night. s

cityhobgoblin · 23/05/2011 00:04

Aha, joy that you're both OK ! Hope you've had a relaxing Sunday , shodatin , & I've had a good day , thank you .

Sorry to have worried you, TIANC , & how fab that your sleepiness was a wholesome result of your gardening efforts ,
Will send positive thoughts for your challenging week , especially for extra patience & calmness .

Have a lemon balm Brewtoo - found a big plant on a village roadside stall yesterday !

shodatin · 23/05/2011 10:20

Morning all - must warn you hob that Lemon Balm grows quite tall, metre or so, and probably same spread, so not one for front of border. Mine's almost in the wild section, and I cut it back quite often with no harm.

Hope all goes well for you TIANC, in this difficult week, and that snowmash manages to drop in soon.

Gales have brought down climbing rose, shame. Hope other people's gardens are safe.

cityhobgoblin · 23/05/2011 16:47

Afternoon everyone - such a shame about your climbing rose , shodatin . Have its roots survived OK ? Thank you so much for lemon balm advice . It's a big beast already but I had no idea it could grow so big !

Am obviously hoping no wildlife was in the way when the incredibly heavy door to our old porch , which the workmen left behind & which we've kept as a temporary plant shelter ( half glass ) blew over - I was certain it was safe in that position & yet it could have killed the cats , or foxes , birds etc .< chastened >

Hope TIANC is having a tolerable start to potentially awkward week , & that madmouse , kizzie & pixie clans are all OK .

Can't remember if consultant's round is on Mondays or Tuesdays - I think you thought Tuesdays , shodatin ? I'll check back in thread - but hope it goes well this week , snowmash , & that there are pleasant distractions available to help alleviate boredom < naive but hopeful >

shodatin · 23/05/2011 17:12

Hello hob, hope the LB is not going to be too awkward. You could always take the seedlings out and sell it on if too large, but once you (and family and friends) start making tea, it's surprising how much you need.

Snowmash's consultant used to be Tuesdays, but you know how they change stuff around in hospital - yes, hope our friend's amusing herself a bit.

The wind was extremely strong, so not surprising your old door was moved - just hope glass is unshattered. Still too windy to get under rose and check roots, but have done a quick tie-up and cut off 6-8 damaged buds for indoors - could have been worse.

shodatin · 23/05/2011 23:47

Just calling in to say "goodnight", as eyes want to close. Thinking of you especially snowmash, and hope life is improving for you.

ThisIsANiceCage · 24/05/2011 01:06

Oh No about everyone's wind damage! Glad no injuries to animals or people, and that rose looks like surviving. Hope that's the limit of the damage.

And thank you for virtual arnica a few days back, hob. What a dunce I am - of course there must be enough nice padded steamer chairs to go round, shodatin, I was too tired to think straight! I'll leave the deckchairs in the lower orchard (if they haven't blown away!).

Thank you all for calming thoughts, btw. I think they must be working - helped by v generous RL people. Saturday is crunch day, so I may need a steaming cup of lemon balm Brew about then.Smile

snowmash good luck for tomorrow, if it's consultant day again. Can I echo everyone's wish that things are easing for you, even if it's a long, long road ahead?

Deffo bed time here, too. Night night all, sleep well.

kizzie · 24/05/2011 15:51

Bad news on the rhododendrum front :-( Its really looking very poorly so the general advice seems to be to cut it right back and then keep fingers tightly crossed that it will start to grow again.
Apparently you dont usually prune them but its the only option when its as damaged as this.

So will wait and see...

Hope everyone ok. Work very busy at the moment so keeping on keeping on :-)

x

shodatin · 24/05/2011 21:04

Hi kizzie, sorry to hear about your rhododendron, but I'd give it a bit longer if I were you (haven't even seen it, but) and maybe a "tonic" if not done already. Gales won't have helped either - have noticed couple of plants here which are dry at the roots, which was a surprise, so am going round firming in and watering in case I have more silently struggling.

Thank you for twitter help, I've been busy too and wish I could call it work or even get paid for it. Hope you're enjoying life anyway.

cityhobgoblin · 24/05/2011 23:06

Evening everyone & sorry to be saying hello for the first time today at bedtime.

Hope kizzie and shodatin can have breaks in their tiring days this week & that TIANC 's week isn't brnging any unpleasantness( sorry for limited vocabulary here) & very pleased RL people have been aiding you ( very welcome , TIANC , and I for one have been enjoying my long snoozes in your deckchairs - the fresh air adds to my blissful sleepiness , though I realise our friends on snowmash's thread are more sophisticated & prefer the steamer chairs ).

Agreeing with shodatin about your poorly rhododendron , kizzie - really severe cases can revive & I'm sure it senses your care & encouragement Smile. Hope you can give yourself little breaks to look forward to .

Wish I could make your toiling more rewarding , shodatin , and in the meantime I hope an email or Skype conversation will brighten the week . Have you had any time for your writing in recent weeks or is your time being eaten up by routine chores atm ?

Hope you've had several positive features to in your day , snowmash , and a fair bit of sunshine . Hoping the side effect of lessened concentration has started to ease so you can look through things you like to read without feeling stressed .

Peaceful night to all - forecast down here is for a possible "grass frost " so maybe those of us further north can still get to our tender plants with newspapers / fleeces etc.

ThisIsANiceCage · 25/05/2011 00:20

Just popping in to say goo'night.

Today safely ticked off - shattered and off to bed.

Sleep well all.

shodatin · 25/05/2011 00:30

Oh hob, too late now to get out to plants with coverings for frost, had no idea we might have a problem, although have harvested stuff today in case a load of dust gets dumped here tomorrow.

Thank you for kind thoughts about little breaks, yes, am seeing a friend for coffee and exchange of written pieces tomorrow, and am in touch daily (at least) via Skype etc with people further away, not just on Sundays.
Glad you're getting time to rest and relax as necessary; yes, it's important, and hope week is going well for TIANC despite added stress.
Before I forget - Brew Cheers! And maybe a Biscuit.

shodatin · 25/05/2011 01:41

Good night TIANC, and to everyone else who's still about the garden.

cityhobgoblin · 25/05/2011 23:21

So sorry for such a quiet day snowmash - everyone extra busy at once , but hope you had as good a day as possible .

I should have remembered about the weather forecast earlier shodatin , so I really hope your plants were OK . ( fell asleep before I did anything protective )
Hope not too much dust settled on your garden today , & that you enjoyed meeting up with your friend - do you help each other with your writing ? ( don't worry about answering tonight , after your busy day )

Really glad you allow yourself plenty of little breaks & brilliant that you have Skype time with friends through the week as well.
Thank you for encouraging me to rest , & I am feeling very lazy this week - was so sunny here today that it was quite dreamlike.
Thank you for offering Biscuit Biscuit yesterday ! I for one need a Skype - style munching emoticon .

Vastly well done yesterday TIANC - peaceful and strenghtening thoughts & calming Brew. We're all thinking of you . Do you have a calming , cheerful mental scene you can "play" use when the situation is getting grim ? I'm sure you have more sophisticated techniques than that , but I always like that method .

Hope madmouse ,kizzie& pixie are well and that snowmash has been able to see the stars before bedtime

shodatin · 26/05/2011 00:22

I'll be back tomorrow hob, but many thanks for your kind words and will wish everyone a good night.

ThisIsANiceCage · 26/05/2011 01:57

Bloomin' well done for "keeping on keeping on," kizzie. Pretty grinding at times, isn't it? Got my fingers and toes crossed for your rhododendron.

And for shodatin's garden in the frost. Or Pompeiification. Is this the dust from Grimsvotn, then? How exciting annoying! Hope your day went OK, and you're not too tired.

Thanks, hob for keeping the pot brewing in the garden today, when the rest of us were skiving off. Sunshine and lazy week sounds a perfect combination. I hope you've had your feet up relaxing.

And thank you so much for your relaxation suggestion. Staying calm and relaxing in the face of liars or idiots stress is the thing in the world I'm worst at (apart from tennis). Only the "external" techniques seem to work for me - music, someone else leading a meditation. Internal ones seem to use the same bits of circuitry I'm desperate to switch off - so counting to go to sleep, or trying to imagine scenes is hopeless. But i've got meself a simple mantra for this week, reminding me of the end point, and it's helping enormously.

Uff, what an essay. Sorry.

snowmash, hope you're getting some decent quality sleep. Difficult, I'm sure, some nights.

to Pixie, madmouse, butterpie and any passers by.

And here's hoping we all get a good night tonight. Sleep well all.

shodatin · 26/05/2011 09:54

Morning all, and thanks to hob and TIANC specially for posting yesterday. I get too tired to continue sometimes, but thanks for good wishes for garden, which actually looks just the same.

Agree with Tianc, I need to remind myself of end point and turn away from anything not helpful. Since an unpleasant interview when I "felt" a piece of plate glass appear between self and aggressor, I can remember it at will, which is extremely useful to distance self from sound and fury while moving in a politely determined fashion towards own ends - if you can imagine?

Will be at surgery this morning, then hopefully home before forecast rain/dust.
Have a good day, everyone else!

kizzie · 26/05/2011 19:42

shodatin hope your appointment went well today. I so admire the way that you manage your time on your own. Something I am v v bad at.

shodatin · 26/05/2011 21:54

Hi kizzie, hope it was a good day. Managing time is not too difficult without parents husband and children around - you deserve a prize managing twins and a job with the usual home and garden stuff, and still you're able to post here and for other people - are there dogs and goldfish involved too? I think you must be quite good at it really.

Appointment was OK thanks, nothing important, and the forecast rain was only a bit of a shower for five minutes. Realised while I was out that next Monday will be Bank Holiday, so managed to get in extras, which was lucky.(must take more notice of calendar as no half-term at this house)

shodatin · 27/05/2011 00:02

Can't wait up unfortunately, so will say goodnight all and sleep well.
Thinking of you snowmash.

ThisIsANiceCage · 27/05/2011 00:07

Hey there. Hope everyone has had good days.

shodatin thank you so much for describing your "plate glass". I may try that one. Disengaging is something I really struggle with. Glad you got so much done today, and appointment went well.

We had some of your rain here, too, at last! Hurray! Nipped out to do a job, and found myself loitering in the wet, entranced! [easily amused]

ThisIsANiceCage · 27/05/2011 00:50

Sleep well, shodatin.

kizzie, seconding what shodatin says about all the things you manage. Managing a household is something it's rare to credit yourself for, until someone stops you and counts up all the things you have coped with, not the things you haven't. Don't know if that applies to you, but have a hunch it might, just a little!

hob hope your day has gone well - was it another drowsing wonderfully in the sun, or were you up and off doing important stuff, as so often?

I wonder if you got the rain or the shine, snowmash and madmouse? And whether mouseling has been making mudpies? Would he like a castle-shaped bucket for the cybergarden's sandpit, do you think?

to everyone.

Take care all, and sleep well.
