It's my fault that the NHS is too expensive

and I can't do anything about it :(

I'm worried she's going to expect me to take prescriptions from her.

OP posts:
madmouse · 15/02/2011 21:34

you need to tell her what is going on first and see how you go from there.

If you insist that you need to pay and explain why and they still don't let you don't you think that that will absolve you so that you can accept the help you need?

snowmash · 15/02/2011 21:41

Mm. I think I'll wait and see what she asks/says. It's just I can't argue much in front of her like I can on the phone.

OP posts:
madmouse · 15/02/2011 21:43

If what you have to say is important write it down xx

snowmash · 15/02/2011 21:47

Today she said that there was stuff wrong with me Hmm Angry

Sorry, didn't understand the example, snowmash. It sounds like each PCT thought the other should pay - so the one thing they were agreed on is that the NHS should pay for your treatment.

But how horrid for you being messed around by them. It's not surprising you feel rejected and rightly upset. I'm Angry that they could behave to anyone like that.

You know what, you could ask your GP outright: "Does the NHS want to pay for my treatment?" She can say yes or no. Then you would know.

Much clearer than trying to deduce stuff from PCTs' stupid admin issues and impersonal messing around.

ThisIsANiceCage · 15/02/2011 21:57

Agree with madmouse, write stuff down.

snowmash · 15/02/2011 22:14

If it was once, TIANC, then I could see where you're coming from. But it's lots of times.

Writing stuff down is good, but I know what I need to say (shouldn't be taking drugs except to come off them etc. etc. etc.) Just that my head is slow so people tend to interrupt (and it's awkward as like everywhere I can't walk out quickly if I start to get upset).

Mm, I know the problem with talking slowly.

Would it work to start with, "I'm thinking slowly at the moment, please give me plenty of time to reply"?

I'm watching this keenly, as I have not dissimilar problems. Not so bad at the moment, but when I'm really unwell speech is difficult and burns through precious energy, so if the GP says something without thinking or doesn't listen to an answer, my heart just sinks.

If you crack this problem, please advise!

ThisIsANiceCage · 15/02/2011 22:37

Posting slowly also a problem!

That's a good idea Pixie (asking her to let me speak).

I don't know exactly what she was saying was wrong with me - she reeled off the physical stuff (wheelchair etc etc etc, stuff I should have had surgery for Blush ), but some of it I didn't get.

Night Pixie, and thanks for the tips.

shodatin · 15/02/2011 23:54

Hello and goodbye all - I mean time to say goodnight already. I hope we all sleep well and awake refreshed.
All best wishes for your appointment snowmash,(doctors will write down diagnosis for you, I find) and TIANC, I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

snowmash · 16/02/2011 00:04

Sleep well shodatin

Thanks shodatin.

Sleep well all, hope all goes well tomorrow snowmash.

snowmash · 16/02/2011 09:21

Morning all.

I hope everyone slept well.

TIANC, I really hope you have a better day today than yesterday.

I think a GP appointment is £50-100.

OP posts:
ThisIsANiceCage · 16/02/2011 09:43

Morning!

Thank you snowmash - bright and breezy today! Two days' rest seems to have done the trick. Hope everyone else also having a good day.

snowmash · 16/02/2011 10:50

I'm glad the rest has helped.

Two hours to go and I can't find my cheque book

OP posts:
ThisIsANiceCage · 16/02/2011 11:16

Fingers crossed for you.

Wouldn't worry about cheque book today. Private health care is probably geared to insurance companies' admin, so there may be a lot of post facto billing, payment plans, etc.

You won't know details like that until you've had the conversation with the GP and or practice manager.

And she may say that, regardless of the awful crap you've had from some PCTs, she and her surgery are happy to keep you on the NHS (I don't understand financial structures, but aren't GP's surgeries semi-autonomous?) Lots of unknowns to sort out!

Really like Pixie's idea of asking for enough time to answer properly - will def try that myself.

shodatin · 16/02/2011 11:23

Morning, and it's a beautiful morning here!
TIANC, I'm so pleased you're having a good day; rest must have been needed.

Snowmash, Hope you have a productive appointment with the GP. You could always send a cheque later. Don't know cost of it I'm afraid, as I'm using the usual NHS system and not paying privately for appointments, it really is simpler to think of it as health insurance, which is the original idea I think. Good luck anyway.

ThisIsANiceCage · 16/02/2011 14:21

Hope you've had a productive chat and aren't too exhausted by it all.
