Fast 800 meal ideas

I'm starting the Fast800 tomorrow (but with a little flexibility). I will eat the same evening meal as my children every night, but then have a 200-400 calorie meal around lunchtime. It may mean me hitting 1000 some days, but I'm not concerned about that.

I am asking if anyone has any favourite low calorie meals. I have 3 of the Fast800 books and have been searching through them but thought someone might have speciific easy/go to meals.

Apologies if this is insensitive with Dr Mosley's death, but that has pushed me to do something after so many weeks/months of being unhappy as life is way too short. I saw him record his podcast 2 weeks ago and have since bought and am reading his Just One Thing book ❤️

I usually have soup for lunch, it's filling and easy to make a low carb version. Then instead of bread I'll have some cubes of cheese with it, a few walnut halves and a few olives. Last week I made butternut squash - roast it first in oven adding in onion and red pepper half way through, then blend with veg stock. Takes minutes.

Hummus and veg is good too, but I prefer home made without garlic instead of the shop bought version in case I stink the office out.

I think that is a great tribute to a man who I saw as someone who was on our side and who shared so much of what he discovered with his enquiring mind. I think I will have another read of my books too and maybe get the just one thing book. It is so tragic, somehow especially as he was so focussed on healthy living for longevity 💔

He encouraged me to discover different whole grains including Freekah and to back off from carb heavy breakfasts and lunches. I couldn’t tell you the calorie context but I cook up lentils and veg to eat with salmon for lunches and that is based partly on his Mediterranean diet advice.

I'm starting the Fast 800 today too. For 12 weeks and I've got 24lbs to lose. RIP Dr. Mosley and thank you.

LoveRules · 10/06/2024 10:22

Thank you for starting this thread. I have loved Dr Michael Mosley since 2010 when we as a family watched his Living Body on dvd endlessly. The young kids were obsessed with it.

I have his and his wife's Fast 800 two books on the shelf and always think the recipes look nice and I should trial it in earnest but never get round to it despite having 2 stone to shift.

I will now for my own personal tribute to MM

He will of course impacted unwittingly positive change in the being safe in the heat. I reckon many lives will be saved due to his death on holiday in the searing sun. Such a terrible tragedy. I couldn't sleep for thinking of his wife and kids and their horrendous loss and how they are. Awful awful

heartbreak84 · 10/06/2024 16:16

It's so lovely reading how much people thought of him. He seemed like a very genuine person and I feel so lucky that I got to see him 2 weeks ago.

I have gained 3 stone in the past year so it really is time that I prioritised my health and Dr Mosley's method just makes sense. I have been watching some of his programmes and reading his books over the past few days.

Today I had a frittata around lunchtime with lots of veg in it. I am now eating some melon and for tonight's dinner we're having steak fajitas.

This brings me to around 870 calories and 66g protein.

I dislike my username, I had forgotten I had it when I stated this thread so I'm going to change it.

Username changed......too much negativitiy and thoughts of recent things that have happened in my life. This thread is where I turn it all around.

BeachRide · 10/06/2024 18:11

Day 1/84

800kcals / 66g protein

That's brilliant, well done.

I haven't decided how many days I'm going to do yet. I am going on holiday 9 weeks Wednesday, but I am worried that sticking to 800 calories until then will be too much. I might try to break it up. Do a month and then a week of 5:2, then another month of 800 and then back onto 5:2.

vincettenoir · 10/06/2024 20:14

That’s a good idea @summerdays84. I have been thinking there are parts of my cycle where I will be able to cope well with it and others where it is likely to be a struggle so I could potentially do 2 weeks one month and then 2 the next.

Howcanichange · 10/06/2024 21:16

This time last week I was thinking about starting the fast800. I'm diabetic and have 2 stone to lose.
Then I saw the awful and sad news about Michael Mosesly. I can't stop thinking about it and his poor family.
Going to start fast800 tomorrow.

Rest in peace Michael, you did so much for so many.

Gorgonemilezola · 10/06/2024 21:19

Just imagine if people started the Fast 800 as a way of honouring Moseley - what a legacy.

I'm starting tomorrow too. About 3 stone to lose and just one click off pre diabetic.

summerdays84 · 11/06/2024 08:12

Good luck to everyone starting.

I slept longer than usual last night but had a very restless sleep so I am feeling quite shattered today. I would love to crawl back into bed right now, but I don't think that work would appreciate that 🤣 I have also got a headache but I assume this is all normal and will settle soon. I've had some water this morning and aiming to eat between 11/12. I'm going for 3 meals today as I felt hungry and snacked on fruit mid afternoon and reading the book suggests you eat fruit with a meal and not as a snack.

Noodge · 11/06/2024 08:21

I use the barenaked noodles and make spaghetti bolognese or other such dishes with them. Or have them with a veg pasta sauce and some quorn pieces.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've just checked and my local Tesco stocks them (and they're currently on offer) so I've added them to my next shop

ProjectKettle · 11/06/2024 09:04

Well done for making the change, OP. I lost 12kg on Fast 800 last year which ultimately led to me conceiving my second daughter. I'm sure Dr Michael Mosley is responsible for many stories like ours. I'll be doing it again once DD2 stops breastfeeding.

If you can afford it, i found the fast 800 website / app really easy to use. You can select all your meals for the week and it generates a shopping list for you. It also gives you options for meals based on what you've already selected to reduce food waste. It might be too pricey if you've already got the books, but worth checking out if you haven't already.

Noodge · 11/06/2024 11:25

@summerdays84 they smell putrid on first getting them from the packet! Give them a good rinse.

Howcanichange · 11/06/2024 13:27

I wanted to use the app but it's 89 pounds!

Picoloangel · 11/06/2024 13:33

I am starting this too. I’m usually very active but have an injury which means I’m house bound.

I am aiming for approx 800-1000.

Today I had a small amount of quinoa with a hard boiled egg and some humous, edamame beans, sweetcorn, tomatoes and pomegranate seeds.

I had half a high protein dessert with some strawberries.

Tonight we are having chicken fajitas and then I’ll probably have an Alpro dessert or a banana.

Also aiming to drink more water as that definitely keeps my hunger at bay.

Picoloangel · 11/06/2024 13:54

I’m using My Fitness Pal (the basic free version) and logging my food.

vincettenoir · 11/06/2024 13:56

I had fajitas for the first time in years yesterday. They were delicious, I don’t know why I hadn’t had them for so long. There is recipe for them in one of the Fast Diet books with turkey and leaves for wraps.

Picoloangel · 11/06/2024 14:17

Yes I’m not going to have a wrap! Almost 200 calories is was too many on a low cal diet!

londonmummy1966 · 11/06/2024 15:28

Have a look at the lunch ideas on the doctors Kitchen website (different doctor but another one with a helpful website) Annoyingly he doesn't put nutritional information on them but its not too tricky to work it out.

Thank you for the tip!!

summerdays84 · 11/06/2024 19:17

Some great ideas here. I have looked at the website and signed up for the free trial but with having the books and access to so much information online I decided against paying for it. I do use nutracheck to keep track. It does cost where the basic mfp doesn't, but I've used it for a few years and much prefer it.

I have finished eating for today. I have had:

Boiled eggs, asparagus and tenderstem (a little boring if I'm honest so probably won't have that again)

A babybel, melon and a slice of cooked beef.

Homemade lasagne with a salad.

844 calories and 62.7g protein.

I think the 3 meals are better for me than 2. I found yesterday and today that I start to feel hungry around 2pm and dinner feels so far away at that point so a small meal works for me.

I hope everyone has had a good day.

Rocketpants50 · 11/06/2024 19:27

Eggs are always my easy go to - like making a frittata as lasts a few days. My other is making a big pot of ratatouille then with halloumi on top (in one of the books). I blend it to for pasta sauce for the kids. Just having some cooked chicken and having that with green salad.

Have just got some smoked mackerel as a few recipes I have noted have these in to.

Have lost a stone now though last week on holiday so ate well but didn't stick to 800. Back on it yesterday, feeling so much healthier because of it, sleeping better.

Am determined to get down to a healthy BMI, for myself, but feel we all need to take from MM and his passion to teach us all to take better ownership of our own health- he went too soon.
