Have just finished reading this thread, found it really motivating, and thank you for all the food suggestions. I'm starting monday. MM was so inspirational, I'm gutted he passed and so very sad for his family. I'm also grateful for his life's work that we can continue to benefit from.
I've been doing a monthly fast for the last couple of years, usually a 24 or 36hr, but it has absolutely no effect on my weight, unsurprisingly. But it does give me the absolute confidence I can manage on a lot less food.
I'm probably about 4 stone over the weight I'd like to be, peri-meno, started HRT recently which has made a difference to my energy levels already. I dislike cooking, don't need a lot of variety, quite happy eating the same stuff day in day out. DH preps the evening meal as he prefers variety in his food, then I cook it for the both of us. It's the only meal that varies for me, left to my own devices I eat the same things all the time. I'm a bit time poor, busy job, dog that needs walking, DH with cancer so lots of hospital appointments etc etc. You all know what it's like I'm sure. Somehow I'm always leaving my health at the bottom of the pile and eating to feel better - which doesn't actually work 😬
I think that my rough plan at the moment is to go OMAD in the week so I can continue eating the evening meal with DH, and then I might go up to 1000 cals at the weekends if needed. I don't drink so that's not for alcohol, most of my socialising tends to involve food, especially in the summer.
I'll do some initial weighing/calorie counting to get a feel for how much to eat to stay inside the calorie allowance with my favorite meals. I'm hoping that I can continue to eat the same things and just reduce portions. I need to get much better at drinking water, so that will be a focus. I tend to drink lots of tea with sugar and I love it so I'll be switching that out for herbal tea and hot water during the day and will save my beloved yorkshire decaf with milk and sugar as a treat after dinner. DH will be 24 or 36hr fasting one day a week so I might join him on those.
I think a couple of people have mentioned protein powders - any recommended brands? I'd be looking for a good quality powder with no sugars, sweeteners and colorings etc. I'd be grateful for any recommendations. I figure I could use a protein shake as a quick and filling meal replacement on occasion, and add to yogurt if I need to hit a protein goal.
