Day 1 of this adventure. I’ve got a headache but will soon be going to bed.
My eating window today was 8am-4pm. I’ve got so much to shift & hope I can keep this up. Anyone else want to join?

Is this diet some sort of magic?

I've tried SO many. Call it a way of life, call it a health kick, call it whatever you like...usually within a few weeks I am craving junk. But I keep making salads and smoothies! The last three days I've gone to make lunch and the thought which enters my head is 'this is my last chance today to eat vegetables'. ...who even am I?!

This is what I've found! It just changed the way I viewed food. It also changed my appetite. When I am eating I want to eat well. Good nutritious food.

I'm loving it. 12lb down so far. My aim is to carry on until the end of the year.

I feel free from the eating trap. I dont have to be obsessed with food. I have more time for myself.

Keep going everyone!

Yeah!!! Go you!

I also have energy for the first time in years. Am sleeping better, feeling motivated. We have a bit more cash because we're not having dinner or late night snacks. Today I did a self defense class and just had so much fun.

Honestly where has this been all my life!

HouseofHolbein · 24/06/2024 22:00

After a weekend of indulgence I'm back on it. Currently 4 hours into my fast due to finish at 10am but planning on stretching it until lunchtime. Going to do a bit of fasted exercise tomorrow as well 😊

SeaBlueGreen · 25/06/2024 16:45

Another one who is finding this works so much better than trying to cut down or cut out foods. I typically fast from around 7/8pm for 16 hours. The first few mornings were tough but now I’m used to it. Lots of herbal tea and water. And I’ve been doing a morning run a few times a week and that quells my appetite so it’s proving even easier on those days. Off on holiday tomorrow and hoping I can keep this up most of the time! As someone said above, it’s liberating not having to think about eating!

chocolatelover91 · 28/06/2024 07:48

Another 3 off this week here guys! 25 off since 22nd april 😘🤩

SallyWD · 28/06/2024 09:05

I find it sooo much easier than a conventional, low calorie diet. With normal diets you start the day with a low calorie breakfast - this immediately stimulates your appetite and then you feel starving until lunch.
Lunch is also low calorie and you have a long old wait until dinner. Maybe you'll allow yourself a low calorie snack like a Go Ahead bar. However, there's nothing filling about that!
You finish the day with a low calorie dinner. Basically nothing you eat in the day is substantial or satisfying and you're expected to continue this for months. It's not sustainable!
With 16/8 I don't even think about calories. I just have satisfying and delicious meals. I feel full and healthy and I can stick at it for life.

Octopus45 · 28/06/2024 11:01

Wow @chocolatelover91 that's amazing. In two weeks, I'm 2.75 pounds down, but on the whole I'm finding it much easier than any other diet I've done. I don't count calories either. Know I haven't lost a huge amount but slow and steady wins he race,7.25 pounds to go before my holiday in August. Might be touch and go whether I make it, fingers crossed.

HouseofHolbein · 28/06/2024 11:20

I was away at the weekend. Ate loads drank more 😭😭 walked and danced for hours. Put some weight on 🤷‍♀️(don't care 🤣🤣)

Back on the fasting and drinking more water and I've lost half of what I put on.

My plan is to fast then enjoy myself when I go out. Slow and steady with some ups and downs on the way but this has to be sustainable. And overall I am a fair bit lighter than when I started so that's a win 😁

Octopus45 · 30/06/2024 10:01

Fully agree with you @HouseofHolbein,slow and steady wins the race. I'm a pound down this morning so 4.25 pounds in total now. Quite pleased with that.

Can I join? I have PCOS, am perimenopausal and everything I've read for years says that 16:8 is the best option for me. BUT... lifestyle makes it so hard to eat earlier than abput 7 and I do find fasting that late into the morning hard. BUT.... I'm trying. I'm going to have to think about days that I can eat dinner earlier and how that works out for the following day.

I also need to weigh myself - I know i'm fatter than ever as my clothes aren't feeling great - but have been too scared to get on the scale.

I'm getting mild headaches in the morning towards the end of fasting (well, yesterday and today - I'm only on day 2). Is that normal?!

Queencam · 02/07/2024 16:03

new to 16:8 - started it early June so been going about a month. Am side 10-12 and at 40 conscious peri is around the corner. Also have endometriosis - with very bloated belly. Have read fasting can help with endo symptoms.

so far been aiming for 12pm-8pm eating window, using the Fastic app to track. I have peppermint tea, water and black coffee only when fasting.

I like:
The simplicity … cannot calorie count
Actually feeling hungry. Before I would eat as soon as vaguely hungry. Grazed all the time. Now I eat much more consciously
Have lost 6lbs (although starting weight was taken on my period when I weigh more..)

Dislike:
Sleeping poorly - think hunger is waking me up! Especially if I do an earlier eating window - have tried stopping eating at 4pm. But hungry at bedtime is not good for my sleep! I’m surprised to see people say fasting improves their sleep?!

Somethingsnappy · 09/07/2024 14:18

Hi everyone, can I join!

Reading through these posts, it sounds like people are doing so well.

I started the 16:8 fasting in mid April. The first week I lost 3 or 4 lbs, and then it stalled for a few weeks, and then I lost another 3 or 4 in a month. So it's slow, averaging out at about half a pound a week, but as long as its going in the right direction, I'm happy with it. My eating window is from 12 til 7 or 1 til 8, so actually that's more of a 7 hour eating window.

I have 2.5 stone I'd like to lose. That would take me to my pre-babies weight, although technically I could do with losing another stone after that. But I'd be delighted with my pre-babies weight to be honest.

Keep it up everyone!

Hello!
I think the headaches are normal in the beginning when you're not used to fasting. I was getting them too in the first few weeks. They stopped after about 3 or 4 weeks I think. I find it soooo much easier now. I feel a bit hungry, but not ravenous, and the hunger doesn't bother me too much. It doesn't feel urgent anymore!

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 09/07/2024 14:47

I think I'm getting into it and not finding the end of the fast quite so hard and headaches already less. I do have a tendency to eat like a horse in my eating window though and definitely should not be having that large glass of wine every night. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow to see if I'm at least going in the right direction (weighed last week on Wednesday). But I didn't have a great weekend in terms of sticking to the window so we shall see.

I'd also like to introduce some more exercise in the morning before the fast ends. A few years ago I also found if I did some very light exercise - even just 5-10 minutes - after dinner, it did seem to help me digest food and do better so I might try reintroduce that. DS was a bit bemused on one occassion to find me marching in place in my headroom at 8:15pm!

I'm finding it slow too. Frustrating, considering its a big change for me and I've been doing it just over a month!

I have lost a few pounds though - so like you say, at least its going in the right direction. Definitely going to stick with it. I am just impatient! Need to get a good stone off.

Octopus45 · 09/07/2024 17:25

I'm another one who's finding it slow. 4.75 pounds down in three and a half weeks. I am aiming to lose another 5.25 pounds for my holiday on 12th July. I still think its the best diet for me, but to be honest, I'm not finding it as easy as I was. Today I just felt really grumpy all morning and wanted to eat and eat and eat. Managed to last until nearly 1pm, think the cold weather is making it harder. However, I love that I'm able to eat what I want within reason, eg once a week I've been going out for an early evening meal and drinks with one of my friends and yesterday, I ate a donut during my eating window. I'm also doing some light exercise (alternating between Jessica Cooke's weights workout and Get Fit with Rick. If I have time, I do both.

SeaBlueGreen · 09/07/2024 17:44

I’m back from holiday where I found it hard to keep to the fast towards the very end. At the beginning - for about a week - I was skipping the lovely breakfast buffet entirely (usually my favourite part of a holiday!) but for the last few days I gave in. Back home now and resumed the morning fast and finding it much much easier when no one is preparing a banquet for breakfast :D
I didn’t lose any weight over the holidays but I didn’t put on any either so that is a win in my book!

Octopus45 · 09/07/2024 18:33

Meant 12th August, 12th July would be amazingly ambitious unless I had D&v

Octopus45 · 10/07/2024 10:19

@SeaBlueGreen that's amazing that you didn't put any weight on, well done you. I'm struggling today, I'm starving and feeling very moody cause of it, but I will persevere.

IdLikeToBeAFraser · 10/07/2024 10:46

So sadly I have not lost any weight in the last week.
To be fair, I definitely didn't do it properly - I was a bit short on fastig over the weekend, I definitely drank more this week than normal and I also have done very little exercise - not even my usual walks with the dog.

So I'm going to keep at it. I suspect that doing it properly, and not overcompensating by necking half a bottle of wine 3 nights will probably help.

Hahaaa. I’ve had to try soooooo hard this evening to not neck a glass of wine. My brain kept telling me I deserved a drink to enjoy with the football. Do not need the extra calories!

Somethingsnappy · 11/07/2024 13:32

I just weighed myself and I've lost another 2lbs this week. I'm very happy with that, as it's much slower than that usually. But I'd switched from 'dirty' fasting (having milk in my tea in the fasting period) to clean fasting, cutting out the milk. So perhaps that's helped this week. That's 8 pounds so far since about mid/late April.
