All welcome - new posters and old!

A gentle supportive fasting thread with as much or as little checking in as you like

My may goals...

Once I'm better - do a consistent fasting week!

And hopefully lose a couple of lbs.

Thanks for the new thread @desikated

i am keen to lose a decent chunk this month as have been yoyoing around since Xmas. Also want to do more les mills workouts and will aim for 4 a week

as I have struggled with water fasting recently I am exploring fasting with calorie restriction with up and down days

ItRainsItPours · 01/05/2024 18:38

Thanks for the new thread. I had a surprisingly good April, hopefully because with slightly better weather I am getting out for more long walks.

SW 1st January 17 stone 5
CW 1st May 15 stone 7
TW 1st June 15 stone 2

I would love to get to 2 stone down, that feels like a decent milestone. Rather than food I will treat myself to some smaller clothes, especially bras! I know how to have fun 🤣

HarpQuartet · 01/05/2024 18:38

Thank you @desikated and hello, fellow IF-ers.

My goals are: be consistently under 77kg by the end of May. Strength training video twice a week. Self check-in every two weeks (I recently finished seeing a therapist and she explained to me how I can make an appointment with myself, check how I'm doing and adjust my goals and give myself homework).

Benvolio · 01/05/2024 21:52

Hello, new here, but have fasted a little bit before, though never as consistently as I planned... I want to lose a stone or more and keep healthy. I have read about autophagy and am excited about the science that suggests you get all kinds of benefits beyond weight loss from fasting.

Benvolio · 01/05/2024 21:55

Goal: I've signed up to the app Body Fast and I'm two days in. I entered some simple data and it's given me a first week plan of a couple of 8pm to lunchtime fasts, plus one 24 hours.

Benvolio · 01/05/2024 21:57

Oops, sorry if I've barged in on a group for 5/2 fasters only!

ItRainsItPours · 01/05/2024 22:02

Welcome @Benvolio , everyone does fasting here but lots of different methods. On a good day I eat between 2pm and 6pm.

Benvolio · 01/05/2024 22:15

Thanks very much 😊

Clearingaspace · 01/05/2024 22:16

Welcome @Benvolio good luck with your fasts!

TooEarlyForBreakfastInMay · 02/05/2024 07:58

Back on the wagon after many slips and slides in April. Hardest thing is to stop late evening snack.

desikated · 02/05/2024 15:17

Welcome @Benvolio ! Yes please do join! We alll do slightly different things. On good days I'm a 16:8 faster. On bad days I'm a 8:16 non faster lol.

I've def felt benefits to fasting beyond weight loss - feeling more energetic, less bloated and enjoying food more.

Hello @TooEarlyForBreakfastInMay finding motivation and momentum after stopping is super hard. Definitely one of those short term pain situations BUT feeling proud and good when you reach the fasting goal❤️❤️ making changes is hard - so the fact that we are all here despite difficult days is testament to our commitment 👏

@TooEarlyForBreakfastInMay re late night snacking someone suggested brushing teeth after finishing eating (before snacks) as a way to signal 'food is over' lol

prettygreenteacup · 02/05/2024 17:19

Hello can I join? I am doing IF and really enjoying it, I first did it years ago to drop baby weight and it really works for my body! I don't actually weigh myself as I get obsessive with numbers but go by my clothes and I look and feel! I'm getting married in November and really want to feel amazing!

I am running 3 times a week (not far), as well as IF and feeling good! I completed my first 20 hour fast today 🙌 I've built up to this after doing several 18 hour fasts. I'm amazed at how not hungry I am when I'm doing this!

ItRainsItPours · 02/05/2024 17:51

Welcome @prettygreenteacup , impressed by your running, I have built up my walking and managed 6 miles today but I don’t think I will ever run.
I too am impressed by the lack of hunger whilst fasting, if I accidentally add a splash of milk to my coffee whilst fasting I am almost immediately starving. There is something about a clean fast that is pure magic.

prettygreenteacup · 02/05/2024 17:56

Totally agree @IItRainsItPours it is magic, I love the way it changes your appetite and balances your blood sugar! I do a clean fast each time, just water and black coffee.

I don't run far (I'm only at 3k per run at the moment, 3 x per week so averaging about 9k a week), but my aim is to keep building my stamina and aerobic fitness and let distance happen naturally! I have already noticed a difference in my shape, after 4 weeks. My muffin top hips are the first thing to slim down with running!

HarpQuartet · 02/05/2024 18:04

Nice to have you here, @prettygreenteacup

We check in on Fridays but it's not compulsory and it certainly doesn't have to be about weight. Chat, news, requests for support etc welcome any time.

desikated · 02/05/2024 18:43

Welcome @prettygreenteacup ! Lovely to have you.

I'm only a partial weight counter for similar obsessive reasons. I'm also a runner (ish!) I thought I'd struggle fasting and running but it's largely been ok. So exciting about your wedding! Are you all ready / prepared in what you're wearing?

I've also been surprisingly fine and not hungry doing running alongside fasting!
Thank you 🥰 I don't have a dress yet! We are having a short engagement, we got engaged at start of March, wedding end of Nov! I'm going dress shopping later this month and hoping to find something I love! We have our venue and photographer booked and invites sent! I just want to feel confident and beautiful!

ItRainsItPours · 02/05/2024 19:38

I’ve been walking up to 6 miles a day during fasting. On the odd occasion where I walk after lunch I find it much harder. If I do a long walk I often feel hungry afterwards though so have to time it that I get home when I am happy to break my fast.

desikated · 02/05/2024 20:32

@ItRainsItPours 6 miles is amazing! So do you find it harder to walk when you've eaten?

I must say I find fasting much easier in the morning when I'm busy busy at work (eg meetings etc). The challenge is at weekends when I'm toddler entertaining and desperately want a pastry 😂

Well, do keep us updated about the dress @prettygreenteacup feeling confident in one's own skin is I think exactly where we all want to be - step by step...

OP posts:
ItRainsItPours · 02/05/2024 20:34

Yes so much harder to walk after eating, but get that it can be difficult to fit around work.

mynamechangemyrules · 02/05/2024 20:48

Hello, I'd like to join. I've reset and lost weight with intermittent fasting and healthy eating before two major operations (3&8 years ago) but now I'm heavier than I've ever been. Last week I fasted 1pm- 7am the next day, 5 out of 7 days. It was surprisingly easy... I'd forgotten the lack of hunger- it's amazing!

I wondered if I'm totally ruining it eating at the weekend? I ate well/ healthily/ no alcohol, but didn't fast. Does that negate the previous days?

I bought scales for the first time in 5 years and I weighed at the beginning of the fasting week and then the middle of this fasting week and I'd lost 2kg..?! Can't be true?! Felt amazing though- tiredness/ weird perimeno sluggishness gone.

This week my mum decided to come and stay to 'help' with the kids. So I 'had to' eat with her... it's detailed these last two days.

Next week back on the fasting- should I do the full 7 days?

And has anyone done a whole day to kick start it? I don't know why but I fancy doing this.

Sorry for the ramble!

Saraswati · 03/05/2024 06:46

Thanks for the new thread @desikated and welcome to those who have joined us!

How exciting @prettygreenteacup congratulations, I love hearing about wedding planning! My husband and I decided to get married then our wedding was 6 weeks later. We told everyone once it was all booked, my mother's face was a picture!

@mynamechangemyrules I know some people on the thread have done longer water fasts, I think the longest I've done is about 20 or so hours. I do 18:6 everyday now except one day at the weekend where I do a long run and I have to eat beforehand. This works for me but you'll find what your body likes, the lack of hunger is incredible so if you feel OK go for it.

I'm at my target, actually 1 pound below now, so I want some new goals for May. I'm going to fast everyday except for the day I do my long run, get a decent time in my 10k race in 2 weeks and feel good when I go on holiday on 23rd. I'm going to try and not let my holiday total derail my eating but also try not to flip out if it does!

desikated · 03/05/2024 07:35

Hello @mynamechangemyrules and welcome

I think the weight loss at the beginning of fasting can be quite a lot - particularly as water weight / bloat tends to fall off! Totally agree with you re feeling more energetic etc.

Re having the weekend 'off'- I do this sometimes. Because of toddler and family life it's basically not possible to fast the way I'd want at the weekend. I also have treats (wine, chocolate) at the weekend because denying myself these things doesn't work in the long run.

Anyway, on that basis (so fasting 16:8 5 days and then a kind of half fasting but pretty decadent eating 2 days a week) I have lost weight. Probably not as much as I could have, but hopefully it's sustainable!

Good luck!
