All welcome - new posters and old!

A gentle supportive fasting thread with as much or as little checking in as you like

This supportive accountability really works for me: I've had my dinner and didn't even want anything sweet after (whereas I'm certain I would have had some chocolate otherwise, just out of habit) and absolutely definitely the only reason I've just done the 20 minute strength training video just now is because I said I would 🙌

Clearingaspace · 23/05/2024 18:58

Well done @HarpQuartet ⭐️ - yes accountability makes a huge differerence for me too. it was a chocolate almond fridge bar! I think a quick daily log of something I have done eg 14 hour fast or whatever might help me to get back on track

loveyouradvice · 23/05/2024 23:08

I'm applauding you @HarpQuartet - I hope you can hear my clapping from afar!! Accountability so helps me ...

I'm on for a low sugar week starting tomorrow - who else is in? My goal is only berries and dark chocolate (70 and 85%) but no other sugar... luckily I'm not out for supper with friends until tomorrow week, and I'll enjoy eating pudding all the more then with my halo shining!!

And how about we post again something we'll do for self-care or a non-food treat, alongside our weight on weigh-in Friday?

HarpQuartet · 24/05/2024 06:47

@loveyouradvice thank you, I'm applauding back. Today I'm at 77.4kg, just a smidge over where I want to be, absolutely fine.

There's an operation I can have later this year (I'm not unwell, fortunately, just something I'd like to get done) and recovery will be better if I'm 72kg than 77kg, so that's a good motivator.

Today I have nice tasty meals planned and my self-care plan is to get the conservatory de-junked so that I've got space to do pilates.

Wishing everyone a happy Friday xx

loveyouradvice · 24/05/2024 12:03

Weighing in day ... I'm pleased, at 11.10 I'm heading back down to 11.8, where I was for parts of March and April...

SW: 14.2
CW: 11.10
GW: 11.2

Great motivation @HarpQuartet

Self-care for me is to walk thoughtfully and gently round the garden 2-3 times each day, literally "smelling the roses"... Don't know if anyone else here is a Michael Mosley fan? I recommend his BBC Sounds podcast Just One Thing - last week he did a week of "Deep Calm" 14 min podcasts and one was about the healing powers of nature.

And yes, I'm on for low sugar week - lots of berries, a few cherries (so expensive I'm treating them like I used to treat a box of chocolates, 3 or 4 after a meal), 10-20g of 70/85% dark chocolate each day. Every day for 7 days - then a pud with mates next Friday evening... and not too much! My key learning goal is how to enjoy food and not overindulge. My brain knows I don't get much more pleasure from more food, the first 2-3 forkfuls are always the best - the rest of me hasn't yet learnt this!!

HarpQuartet · 24/05/2024 16:05

Inspiring, @loveyouradvice 👏👏👏

HarpQuartet · 24/05/2024 16:06

I do like Just One Thing, but my favourite thing about it is the fake Michael Moseley on Dead Ringers 😁

loveyouradvice · 24/05/2024 19:29

Oh wow - don't know that - I'll look it out @HarpQuartet

I'm realising this thread has a different dynamic with less of us weighing in on Fridays - I love the Fridays but do they work for everyone else? I love the groundswell of most of us coming together one day a week, even if we don't touch base between times....

HarpQuartet · 24/05/2024 21:05

I really like having the Friday check in but you're right, it doesn't seem universally popular!

loveyouradvice · 24/05/2024 22:01

Happy to keep doing if you are @HarpQuartet and lets see if others join us some weeks!!

loveyouradvice · 24/05/2024 22:02

It sets me up well for the weekend - either celebrating and building on a good week or a great reminder to rein in the horses if I've had a rougher week...

HarpQuartet · 24/05/2024 22:03

Similar!

ItRainsItPours · 24/05/2024 23:34

I like the Friday weigh in but only remember when others post. Some weeks I’m off the wagon so don’t post also.

loveyouradvice · 25/05/2024 10:18

Totally get it @ItRainsItPours - I missed a few weeks when I was off the wagon... which is one of the reasons I love posting Fridays, keeps me accountable and strong! Where are you at at hte mo?

Clearingaspace · 26/05/2024 18:44

I also really like the Friday weigh in but I literally forgot this week! I think the Friday weighin is the usp of this thread - but also with general supportiveness? Maybe we could rephrase things in the next month refresh though?

I think I am up again but have maintained most of the week so that’s something at least.

I forgot to factor in half term with my low sugar plan - I will try to avoid secret munching on biscuits etc but will share a desert with family at some point this week I think!

HarpQuartet · 27/05/2024 07:56

@loveyouradvice I'm so pleased you suggested a low sugar week. I thought I was addicted to sugar, but now I'm not so sure, because I haven't been getting cravings that make me grumpy. I've had more fruit than usual (good season for it - nectarines and cherries) and small amounts of a pain au chocolat and a chocolate chip cookie, enough to really enjoy it without needing more. It's usually around Day 4 that I get the urge to ditch new habits (the "fuck it" attitude) but let's just see what happens.

@Clearingaspace both of my sweet treats were shared with friends or family - I wouldn't like to lose those times, and they are very different from the times where I've eaten a lot of sugar on my own. So my prediction is that you'll get a lot of pleasure from your shared dessert ❤️

loveyouradvice · 27/05/2024 08:34

Totally echo your thoughts @HarpQuartet

The key for me has to be this - enough to really enjoy it without needing more

And sociable pudding sharing is key ... my challenge socially (eg family buffets) is I just enjoy too much and get a bit carefree in the so delicious, another one is fine... Almost as if I can't talk and eat sensibly at the same time!!!

loveyouradvice · 27/05/2024 08:36

Great @Clearingaspace Lets stick to Friday weigh ins and flag up in intro .. fine if people don't, but great if they do. Yes to trying to work out how to avoid secret biscuit munching - apart from asking my DH to hide them, which is my current tactic. Doesnt feel very grown up!!

HarpQuartet · 27/05/2024 08:58

I've got a bit of bonus Bank Holiday weekend "win" to report: I've cleared out the conservatory and have done a 25-min pilates video in there this morning 🙌 and yesterday and the day before I did the first two days of the "Zombies, run!" couch to 5k.

Loubelle70 · 27/05/2024 10:13

Im intermittent fasting, again. I wanted to lose 2 stone. Peri too.
I do have breakfast now and again but usually stick to OMAD.
lost 7lb in 3 week. I know itll slow. Hopefully have lost it by october.
I dont exercise as such

Cherryblossom81 · 27/05/2024 16:16

Hello all. I've been a bit of a lurker on some of the fasting threads. Hope it's ok to pop in here?!

I just wondered if any of you have had success with fasting helping with weight loss when you don't have much to lose? If so, what particular method of fasting has helped you?

I'm quite short and already at a 'healthy' weight/BMI but I know that I feel and look better around 10 pounds less than what I currently weigh. I've been doing IF (eating between around 1pm and 7pm) since Christmas and tracking my calories on Nutracheck every day but I've basically lost nothing since Christmas (some weeks dropped a pound, then another week it's gone back on).

So, I thought I'd ask if any of you have any thoughts or tips?!

HarpQuartet · 27/05/2024 17:19

@Loubelle70 that's a nice motivating 3 weeks under your (ever loosening) belt.

@Cherryblossom81 you are very welcome to pop in as little or often as you like 🤗 though as it happens I'm not the right person for your question - my "happy weight" is still in the "overweight" bit of the NHS height/weight chart!

I hope someone in your position will spot this and will have some advice.

Loubelle70 · 27/05/2024 17:34

@HarpQuartet thankyou.
1st wk mainly waterweight...then steady. Usually after 3 week i lose around 1lb week...plateau..then lose again after few week..its just my body..it holds on lol.

mynamechangemyrules · 27/05/2024 20:23

@Cherryblossom81 I am certainly no expert, but when I first fasted I changed the times of fasting a few times throughout the course of doing it- that might be worth a try if you can fit it in.

This time I'm sticking to fasting 1pm till the next morning as that suits me.

Does anyone else get in a real rut with food?! I eat cucumber and boiled eggs so much, I'm bored!

desikated · 28/05/2024 09:06

Well done @HarpQuartet that's amazing achievements for BH Monday! I've heard about the zombie run- is it fun? Mainly though VERY WELL DONE!

Hello @Loubelle70 and welcome. Sounds like you're off to a great start. It's not official (lol) but I think we're very slow and steady wins the race attitude on the thread as weight loss always tends to slow (kind of shows it's working!) so it's just keeping to that mindset of keeping on. One meal a day sounds hard! Which meal do you pick?

Hi @Cherryblossom81 I'm possibly ina. Similar position to you now although wasn't before. I'm currently in just about the middle of a healthy BMI but I'd like to lose a bit because my stomach is not my friend. However, like you really struggling to do so! I don't have much advice - I did find though after a bad few days recently that I think reducing dairy from my diet helps enormously (and the opposite adding it back in makes me swell up!) I don't have an allergy or intolerance or anything but I wonder whether there is a particular food stuff for you that's a tricky one for your body?

The last week and a half for me are best never spoken of again it was Xmas eating but without the feeling that it was acceptable because everyone else is!

Yesterday went back on the fasting wagon and did an 8k run. This morning woken up bloody starving but determined to fast til 1pm 🤞🤞🤞 and do a run later.
