Fast 800 anyone

Iminthemoneylife · 21/04/2023 07:03

I need to lose 5 stones and I wondering if an 800 fast would work for me. I already feel tired all the time, I am assuming due to my weight.

Has anyone tired it? Does anyone want to do it together?

I'm getting desperate with my menopausal weight gain (need to lose 3 stone), so I'm thinking about trying this. How do you cope with being hangry? I find being hungry so much harder to handle these days, as my mood is all over the place already.
Also, I'm concerned about the impact of exercise, I do a mix of weights/cardio, but in order to train satisfactory (ie lift heavy!), I need fuel...

Hi @cloudjumper welcome, honestly I’m not really struggle with being hungry other than the occasional passing ‘ I’m hungry’ but I don’t feel starving. In the morning I have a coffee with milk but then I’m fine 10 mins later. I normally do 15k steps a day and 30 mins swimming a few times a week. Yesterday I went swimming having only had a coffee and then had brunch and it really was fine.

It’s 5.15 now and I’m just peckish. No rumbling tummy or feelings of discomfort. I normally eat at 5 (very young children) so I would normally be hungry around now anyway. I’ve had 345 Kcal of soup and 150 Kcal of milk - I need the milk for tea and coffee.

In the book Michael suggests a drink, strong mints and distraction. You need to make sure you are having 50g of protein a day.

I started this 6 days ago and I really was thinking there was something wrong with me as I was so tired all the time. That has disappeared over night. So far I’ve lost 6lb. Obviously about 3lb of that will be water as is normal in any diet. But I’m super impressed with the weight loss.

You can always try it for 2 weeks and see how it goes. If it isn’t working you can always stop earlier.

Hi @cloudjumper - what @Iminthemoneylife said + lots of water works for me, and I'm a regular exerciser, too.

Good luck 🤞

Chelsea26 · 27/04/2023 20:07

Yep @cloudjumper In the mornings I have a few black coffees (I’ve always had black coffee so this isn’t a hardship) and then water until midday when I have my light meal (soup, veg and eggs type thing) and then more water and herbal tea through to 7ish when we have dinner.

I honestly haven’t been that hungry at all but I am making sure to eat slowly and savour my meals (and there is some licking of bowls going on!) and to sit for a few minutes afterwards to let it go down and ‘feel’ full.

Previously I would have scarfed twice the amount down in half the time and barely registered it.

cloudjumper · 28/04/2023 07:15

Thanks! Yes, the tiredness is another concern, with a calorie deficit like that - I'm
worried it'll impact family and work life, both of which are full on!

Do you then all have your meals with your family, sipping soup while they tug?! Confused

I think I need to read up a bit more about this, I just struggle to see how I could manage this!

LudicrouslyCapaciousBag · 28/04/2023 07:15

Morning all! Really pleased with another 2lb loss today.

@50FootWave re: miso soup - the Itsu sachets are very nice and good for work but they work out very expensive, so at home I have a big jar of Yutaka miso paste. It takes a bit more stirring to dissolve completely but it is worth it. I have discovered that I can make a really good low-calorie ramen with miso broth, shirataki noodles, vegetables, protein (eg prawns) and eggs.

@Chelsea26 your willpower is immense! So pleased to hear that your DS is on the mend.

Well done @chalkyc2. That first weigh-in is so motivating.

@cloudjumper I agree with the others - the hunger has been nowhere near as bad as I expected. Keeping your protein levels high is absolutely essential.

50FootWave · 28/04/2023 08:51

@cloudjumper I've not felt tireder (more tired?) than usual - eg, 9pm-ish and I'm done, but I'm an early waker, so this is my normal. As @LudicrouslyCapaciousBag said, protein is key.

Def good to read up and see if it's for you; I don't believe 'diets' should be all or nothing, I'm a big fan of easing in to a change, and adapt it to suit you. A bit like babies, they're all different and not every approach works for everyone! Less likely to abandon that way, too (and I am the queen of abandoning diets after one tiny deviation).

@LudicrouslyCapaciousBag WELL DONE! What's your total now? Thanks for the miso tip - I bought a jar of paste yesterday, going to try spreading it on aubergines before roasting later (+ chicken on the side).

I have lunch out with a friend today - menu is delicious but wall to wall sourdough and carbs, so will need to tweak. Will be going for smoked salmon, poached eggs and avocado - hoping they can dump it all on a big mound of spinach!

Chelsea26 · 28/04/2023 09:39

Morning everyone!

Well done @LudicrouslyCapaciousBag - great to see the scales moving!

@50FootWave Excellent forward planning there! Plan to succeed and all that!

I’m meant to be out for lunch on Sunday but don’t know where yet so can’t make plans just now. My friend is coming over for lunch on Saturday, I’m either going to make the bacon, broccoli, mushroom one pan thing or some soup. She can have a larger portion if she wants but I imagine she’ll eat in solidarity with me!

So this morning’s weigh in results are in and I’ve lost 8lbs (3.6kg) - I’m bloody DELIGHTED!!!

I’ve also lost an inch off of my waist - can’t see it in the mirror yet but I know it’s happened so that is very motivational.

On to week 2!

50FootWave · 28/04/2023 09:54

Nice work, @Chelsea26 , you must be thrilled, what an incredible loss. And an inch off your waist is loads, they'll soon all stack up.

Good luck with navigating your weekend plans; on to week 2!

chalkyc2 · 28/04/2023 10:18

AMAZING everyone!!

It's great to be at a similar stage on this!!

Lol at licking the bowl @Chelsea26 - yep here too!

The hunger thing is weird - I don't feel that hungry. I felt hungrier when I was downing 2000 Cals a day. My sleep has been great. I need to get some more exercise in I've been a bit lazy. The one thing I feel I can't do is deviate off the plan - I feel like it needs 100% commitment at the start. We had an office lunch yesterday - all sandwiches - I didn't dare to even have one!

BibbleandSqwauk · 28/04/2023 10:43

6lb down in my first week, which I'm pretty pleased with. I've twice had to eat something at about ten pm or else I would not have slept and I have a measure of vodka on some nights with lots of ice and lime which I know is probably inhibiting loss but if I make life too miserable I'll quit after a fortnight, so id rather have few small slips and keep up the bulk of it. Haven't checked waist measurement..will do in the morning.
Well done everyone, I suspect bank holiday might be tricky but in some ways I'm pleased I'm just at home with the kids cos it's easier than if I was out and about or in a pub. Next weekend will be trickier, coronation family gathering with scones etc 🙄🤴

Iminthemoneylife · 28/04/2023 10:48

Morning all. I’ve lost 6 lbs this week. I have no ideas about inch lose but my bra felt looser when I put it on this morning.

CrispAppleStrudels · 28/04/2023 11:01

Well done everyone! That's such great losses!! 👏👏👏👏👏

Chelsea26 · 28/04/2023 12:58

Yay - lots of lovely losses! Well done team!

If anyone is interested, I’ve made notes in the recipes I’ve made this week (thinking of long term and remembering what we liked and didn’t as we work through the book…)

bacon, broccoli, mushroom and tomato fry up (144 cals) with a medium egg (76 cals) - 220 cals.
It was tasty, great for a weekend brunch. I think it needed the egg though, might have been a bit dry without.

Beef chilli - c550 cals - with either spinach or kale on the side.
This is not in the book but we’ve got all 4 kids here tonight and it’s one of the few things they will all eat happily so it will be fine.

Chicken, pepper and chorizo bake (421 cals)
This is delicious and a really good portion, we had it with roasted courgettes and tenderstem broccoli. I added much more paprika than the recipe says and some cayenne pepper and garlic granules. When it was finished cooking the juices were quite watery so I reduced them down and added a spoonful of yoghurt and it was well worth the extra time and effort.

Courgette, pepper and goats cheese frittata (294)
Haven’t tried because Goats cheese is rank but he liked it. Very easy to make, large slab of it and kept well in the fridge to heat up each morning.

Spiced Bean and spinach soup (200) - .
Have had this for three days this week and it really is delicious, large bowl full per serving and keeps and heats well - absolutely recommend!!

Red Pepper Hummus (88) Also tasty - I had it with celery

Turkey fajitas (195) -
This was my least favourite dinner by far, it was ok but I’m not keen on turkey so I guess that’s why. Again I upped the dried spices and we added a few pickled jalapeños to up the punch a bit.

Cheat’s one-pot cassoulet (445) -
This was lovely actually and quick and easy to make, we froze half and it defrosted and reheated very well. Thoroughly recommend. Kids ate it happily

Peppered pork stir fry (276) -
Fairly bog standard stir fry, nice but nothing unusual or spectacular about it

Edamame and tuna salad (408)
This was nice and quite filling, I added a hard boiled egg in and used half the oil the recipe stated and there was still plenty of dressing. Quick and easy to prepare.

Chicken tikka masala (427)
Again nice enough, not as good as my normal curry but simple as it uses curry paste, makes a lot of sauce. We had it with garlic cauliflower rice and spinach. My kids ate this happily too. They had normal rice and naan (the lucky sods!)

All recipes from Fast 800 recipe book - happy to take photos of the pages if anyone wants to try and doesn’t have that particular book.

50FootWave · 28/04/2023 14:51

Great losses @Iminthemoneylife and @BibbleandSqwauk -you're going to need a smaller bra soon!

Amazing recipes and even more amazing notes @Chelsea26 - love that sound of that soup, but my partner makes their own bread and and I fear this would be my undoing!

I survived my lunch date - had exactly what I planned and guess what - no one cared!

chalkyc2 · 29/04/2023 06:00

@Chelsea26 I need to dig out my books I've been only doing the online recipes. Has anyone else got access?

Favourites I'm resurrecting from last time - the lentil dhal as a good lunch for heating up at work, the turkey chilli, the vegetarian lasagne (with aubergine), the stuffed chicken breast.

My husband isn't doing the plan with me this time but is on programme with the evening meals. Just watch him lose weight easily just doing that...!

chalkyc2 · 29/04/2023 06:03

Oh and the mocha berry smoothie. It's amazing. If you ever had chocolate yoghurts as a kid (weirdly now not available - I used to think they were such a treat!) well - tastes like that! I alternate it for breakfast with s strawberry smoothie from one of the books - my husband makes them every morning and I take it into work to have later.

cloudjumper · 29/04/2023 07:44

Tanking not of the recipes, I've just ordered the books. I'm going to give it a go! Wondering if I should do it with the app, though, is anyone?

50FootWave · 29/04/2023 08:38

Morning all, sending strength for the weekend, always tricky. My partner is out all day, so I made him hide the leftover (don't judge) Easter choc in case I crack.

@cloudjumper no, I'm not, but I think someone else is?

I normally do a boot camp on Sat but have rowed (indoors) instead. Lunch is homemade coleslaw and chicken....yesterday I didn't eat again after lunch!

50FootWave · 29/04/2023 08:40

@chalkyc2 I remember those! And hazelnut yogs, not seen those for yonks.

chalkyc2 · 29/04/2023 22:14

Hey @cloudjumper - yep I use the online programme - they don't have an actual app as such ( or I missed it if they do?!). I find it helpful as you get to know your favourites and I'm not having to write out a meal plan. They even do you a shopping list!

50FootWave · 30/04/2023 06:27

7 pounds for me for my first week, which is brilliant, really happy.

Bring on week two!

I'm away in a couple of weeks so will need to factor in being abroad, but the hotel has a gym, so hoping I can just do my best and not self-destructive by breakfast 😀

50FootWave · 30/04/2023 07:35

*self-destruct

Chelsea26 · 30/04/2023 09:50

Congrats @50FootWave thats amazing! Well done!

I’m out for lunch today and there will be wine but I shall try and make good food choices.

50FootWave · 30/04/2023 10:11

Thanks, @Chelsea26 - enjoy today! We can only try our best when real-life happens, am sure it will all be great!

50FootWave · 01/05/2023 15:48

How is everyone getting on over the BH weekend?

I'm in a good routine of breakfast at 10ish, then a late lunch at 3p/4pm, after which I don't eat again til the following day. Should probably drink more water but that's all.
