Fast 800 anyone

Iminthemoneylife · 21/04/2023 07:03

I need to lose 5 stones and I wondering if an 800 fast would work for me. I already feel tired all the time, I am assuming due to my weight.

Has anyone tired it? Does anyone want to do it together?

@Iminthemoneylife I think your approach is spot on - it has to work for us on a personal level and be manageable! One day at a time!

Alainlechat · 23/04/2023 08:36

Hello all, I'd like to join you all. I have a holiday in 11 weeks and need to lose a good stone by then. I'm going to download the kindle book now.

Chelsea26 · 23/04/2023 09:01

@50FootWave @Iminthemoneylife Absolutely you have to find what works for you. Same with @BibbleandSqwauk. I find I have to be the opposite and be super organised and strict and meal prep, as if I was faced with a choice I’d probably make a bad one!

One thing I’ve noticed the past few days is how often I go to pop things in my mouth; kids leftover chips, that lump of cheese that fell off while I was grating it, a rhubarb and custard as I walked past a bowlful, licking the peanut butter off of the knife (I’m disgusting I know!)

All of these things would have been straight in and swallowed without really taking any notice of them normally and I bet they all add up.

Good luck today everyone x

Overrunwithlego · 23/04/2023 09:04

I did the 800 a couple of years ago. I lost 12kg and have kept it off. I didn’t do strict 800 - for example I always have a coffee with milk in the morning and didn’t change that! I honestly didn’t find it that difficult - the type of food you eat really did keep my quite full. I still eat the same way although don’t calorie count anymore. I do of course have days where I don’t follow those eating principles and have more carbs - but I always feel a bit rubbish and sluggish afterwards!

Where I do eat carbs now I make sure they are not ultra processed - lots of overlap with what Van Tulliken twins do here, and one of them has a book out next week which is getting lots of media coverage. So if I do have a cake - its a homemade one. If i do have bread, its homemade bread. That has enabled me to bring in more carbs occasionally, without putting the weight back on I think. So I don’t think its necessarily quite so simple as all carbs, but rather really steering away from ultra processed crap.

Anyway, good to luck to those just starting!

CrispAppleStrudels · 23/04/2023 13:31

Nice to hear how everyone is getting on. I find the weekends to be really hard - i think because DH and i used to just graze all weekend, hoover up our toddler's leftovers etc. Also being around the house, rather than in meetings all day def is more of a temptation for me.

I weighed myself a day early as i couldn't resist and although it was a different set of scales to those at the hospital, i think I've reliably lost around 3kgs. Which im really chuffed with - especially as i was at a client lunch on Thurs which was a massive risotto.

I know it will slow down over the next few weeks, but its def helped me feel more positive and focused for next week. We can do this! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

50FootWave · 24/04/2023 06:45

Amazing @CrispAppleStrudels well done!

Weekends are tough, I agree, and @Chelsea26 I do all those things too (and worse!).

Good luck today everyone.

Iminthemoneylife · 24/04/2023 06:58

Morning all, @Chelsea26 I’m exactly the same.

I’ve finally started reading the book. For now I’m sticking to around 1,000 calories but I’ve ordered some calcium tablets so perhaps I can be convinced to drop the milk and go lower. I haven’t exercised for 3 weeks and I’m starting again this morning. I’m going for 3 small meals again today. I did impatiently weigh myself this morning and there was no difference.

I forgot about the 16:8 aspect of it and had a supper at 10.30..but it was courgette slices with a little feta, not crisps and wine so I'll take that as a win. Is it supposed to be a once a week weigh in?

chalkyc2 · 24/04/2023 08:23

I'm pretty sure I end up on around 1000 cal / day - I also have (oat) milk in my tea and it's one of those things that just makes the diet bearable!! I'm also not great at time restricted eating - we tend to have dinner a bit late - so I'm carrying my breakfast smoothie with me into work to try and hold out for an hour or two! I lost 20kg in the 12 weeks of fast 800 2 years ago so hopefully the 3 cups of tea aren't too impactful!! I am aiming for 3 litres of water too. Have a look at the website OP - they sometimes have a free trial running.

I jumped on the peloton this morning before work. But of a shock!

50FootWave · 25/04/2023 09:31

How is everyone doing today?

I had a great day yesterday (fasted from 7pm Sunday - 2pm Monday), meals all on target. Today I have worken up starving!

I did a workout from 7am - 7.45am, but then had to eat (scrambled eggs and mushrooms).

Trying not to worry, and listening to my body, rather than sabotaging myself!

chalkyc2 · 25/04/2023 12:07

Keep going - honestly last time I never respected the fasting other than vaguely trying to do 12/12!!

I'm on day 6! Will weigh in on thurs morning. Feeling ok....but bored but motivated!

50FootWave · 25/04/2023 13:57

Thanks for the support, @chalkyc2 ! That's encouraging.

Well done on almost your first whole week - very excited (not as excited as you I bet!), to hear your results.

I've just had five strawberries, and dinner is steak with roasted courgettes. Also managed a super quick lunchtime swim (length of time in, not speed).

Chelsea26 · 25/04/2023 13:58

I’m feeling good! Have stuck to meal plan, calories and eating window religiously so far and all the meals have been pretty tasty.

DP hasn’t been as strict as me but he put a shirt on this morning and it definitely looked looser. I bet he’s going to lose more than me even though he’s cheating occasionally - Grrr!

50FootWave · 25/04/2023 14:18

Don't go there, @Chelsea26 , it will end in tears! But glad to hear you're doing so well!

My weigh-in is Sunday.

LudicrouslyCapaciousBag · 26/04/2023 07:15

Hello all, I’d like to join. I started Fast 800 two weeks ago and have lost over a stone so far (but I have a lot to lose - another six stone or so).

I have got into a routine which is working for me so far. The crucial thing is to get protein in every time I eat. I make a peppermint mocha protein shake in the morning (cold brew coffee, one drop peppermint oil, one scoop Gold Standard whey protein in chocolate flavour, whizzed in Nutribullet: 119kcal, 24g protein) then keep going as long as I can on coffee, fizzy water, miso soup. That leaves me with a good 600 calories for a satisfying dinner which is always protein plus non-starchy vegetables. I find that using a lot of strong flavours, eg chilli, garlic, ginger, soy, really helps meals to feel satisfying on fewer calories.

50FootWave · 26/04/2023 08:54

Wow, that's amazing @LudicrouslyCapaciousBag, well done!

Great tips on the flavours and protein, thank you so muhc. I had a big bowl of roasted veg last night (courgettes and toms) with garlic olive oil and a steak (had planned fish but fancied beef).

Am def less hungry this morning, and I've had a 30 minute row. Will have an omelette at lunch (1pm, so that's an 18 hour fast) with steamed broccoli and chilli flakes.

Must add more water, though. And try the miso soup! Do you have a fave brand?

Chelsea26 · 26/04/2023 13:29

Well I really hope I get a big loss on Friday morning!

I have spent the night in hospital with DS2 and only just got home (he’s ok - has a viral infection but they have it under control now)

There was a kiosk and a load of vending machines but apart from a very nice nurse making me a cup of black coffee at about 5am I’ve had nothing since 7pm yesterday…

AND I took DS to KFC on the way home!!

Luckily I have some soup and hummus made so should be eating very shortly!

@LudicrouslyCapaciousBag a stone is amazing! Well done!

Hope everyone else is doing ok x

50FootWave · 26/04/2023 13:59

My goodness, @Chelsea26 . Firstly, I hope DS2 is ok and you get a chance to rest. How worrying for you and everyone.

Secondly - holy cow, that's some rock-solid will-power there. If you can navigate not one but two potential pitfalls, then you can ace this.

You deserve the best of weigh-in's on Friday, no doubt about it.

Ledochas · 26/04/2023 15:08

@Chelsea26 I am amazed at that willpower

Chelsea26 · 26/04/2023 20:49

Thank you @50FootWave - he’s doing ok, temp keeps going up and down but he’s ok in himself.

I do feel proud of myself, I do really want to lose this weight and I know I have to be strict with myself to do so.

This weekend is going to be tough, DP is away on a stag so I’ll be on my own. Has anyone made any good one person dinners this week?

50FootWave · 27/04/2023 06:47

Great to hear he's better, @Chelsea26.

You should be very proud, and hold on to that feeling. And you can get through the weekend, any jobs you can do to keep you occupied?

I picked up this book in a charity shop yesterday, and there are loads of lovely recipes, and the approach aligns well with Fast 800.

I sometimes find Dr Mosley a bit evangelical and dismissive of real life barriers to weight loss; this feels more sustainable.

Not to derail this thread, but the extra recipes are good, and Dr Xan encourages fasting too.

chalkyc2 · 27/04/2023 08:01

Well done @Chelsea26 - willpower!! And glad DS is ok.

Ok. Week 1 weigh in. Bear in mind I have a LOT to lose. And I've been strict, exercised a bit and drunk loads of water. I lost 4.5kg. I know this will never happen again, but it is motivating!! Here we go into week 2!!

50FootWave · 27/04/2023 09:08

Wooo hooo @CharcoalJeans - that is INCREDIBLE!

I am motivated by your amazing sucess; what a fantastic result.

I was so tempted to weight today but will stay strong til Sunday. My starting weight was 16.4, so if I could see a 15 on the scales, I'd be delighted.

So happy for you!

Chelsea26 · 27/04/2023 09:24

Wow @chalkyc2 That’s so good! So glad all your hard work and discipline has paid off and will give you the motivation to continue!

Yes we know losses will slow down but it’s proof it works and, as I keep telling myself, it took a while for me to put it on so it will take a while to get it off!

I weigh in tomorrow morning - starting weight was 13s10lbs and I also measured my waist (where I carry pretty much ALL my weight) - I can’t remember the measurement off the top of my head so hoping that’s gone down too…

Keep it up team!

cloudjumper · 27/04/2023 17:08

I'm getting desperate with my menopausal weight gain (need to lose 3 stone), so I'm thinking about trying this. How do you cope with being hangry? I find being hungry so much harder to handle these days, as my mood is all over the place already.
Also, I'm concerned about the impact of exercise, I do a mix of weights/cardio, but in order to train satisfactory (ie lift heavy!), I need fuel...
