Welcome to the continuing thread for those following 5:2 or other forms of IF (Intermittent Fasting) such as 4:3, ADF, etc.

Basically it is 2 very low cal days ("fasts") per week - which need not be consecutive - and eat "normally" to maintain on the other 5 days.

For those who have dieted or maybe overeaten for years, eating "normally"
means roughly the number of calories your body needs to maintain - NOT reduce - its weight (see TDEE calculator below).

IMPORTANT
If you have had past diagnosed Eating Disorders or serious MH problems you should NOT do 5:2 or any other kind of fasting

JARGON alert

16:8 is a different type of fasting, which can be combined with 5:2.
Daily zero-cal fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8 hour window. To lose weight, this needs a weekly calorie deficit as well

b2b (optional) back-to-back / consecutive fast days, each with an increased allowance of 650 calories instead of 500

BMI (Body Mass Index) healthy range is 18.5 - 24.9 for Caucasians. Upper limit may be 22 for some of Asian origin.

FD = single Fast Day: aim for 500 calories (600 for men or 25% TDEE whichever is higher) or 1000 cals for BF
No alcohol or junk on FDs
Even if you exercise strenuously, do NOT increase FD cals to allow for exercise

MFP = My Fitness Pal, a useful App or website to track food & drink calories

miniFD = MiniFD, 850-1000 calories, no alcohol or junk

NFD = Non-Fast Day, averages around TDEE

NSV / LSV = Non Scale Victory / LifeStyle (change) Victory, e.g. compliment, smaller waist, clothes size

SV = Scale Victory

TDEE = Total Daily Energy Expenditure, the average number of calories you burn in a day, is calculated from your current weight, height, age, activity level.
Aim to average about this for NFDs.

WOE / WOL = Way Of Eating / Way Of Life. We say this instead of "diet", to emphasise that we must make a permanent change in how we eat, to maintain our new healthy weight long term.

Evening all,

Back from THE most amazing holiday ever. We are, drank and laughed. It was well needed.
Being mindful went completely out of the window so I’m straight back on it tomorrow. Planning 2 FD’s tomorrow and Friday to do a bit of damage limitation.
How’s the week been for you all?

Hi @SydneyCarton @Alargeoneplease I'm also joining you tomorrow. Fabulous BH weekend with a couple of days bolted on and it's been soooo nice but so indulgent 🤣🙈 FD tomorrow and 3 FD next week before I take DH away for a long birthday weekend... and undo all next week's good work! 🤣🤣

Today’s FD slightly off track by end of the holiday McDonald’s 😬 but still coming in around 1200 calories and a 23 hour fast from 8pm Tuesday to 7pm Wednesday so I’ll take that to ease me back in. Normal day tomorrow and I think 16:8 for Friday

I managed one today too, first one in over a week 🙈

I got through the BH weekend "only" regaining the same 4lbs that I can't seem to get rid of for good... But I guess I'm okay with that.

I've achieved absolutely nothing in the whole of August 🙄🙄 BUT I've kept off the 8lbs that I lost in July! Silver linings!

Away now until the weekend so don't think I'll get more than one FD in this week. Sigh.

Started September off well- FD on 31st and a sensible 5 hr eating window yesterday. Today a FD with a salad topped with leftover chicken burrito fillings , guessing around 500 calories in total and kitchen now closed. Looking forward to Sunday lunch tomorrow ( roast chicken with all the trimmings)

Kitchen closed at zero today ☺️ just sipping an ice cold sparkling water and looking forward to an up day tomorrow. Already feeling less bloated overall.

@harriethoyle hope it’s not a long commute for you! It really is hot today! I had an ice shaken espresso when I got home and it was delicious and refreshing and much needed - an iced drink might help when you get home.

First proper FD for a while and doing OK on water and a couple of cups of tea. Not sure what dinner will be, I think some variant on pizza and salad, with perhaps some leftover cooked chicken thrown into the mix. Or I might go rogue and just eat the sourdough crumpets I found reduced in M&S 😋

Mad busy day after work taking various children to various activities so no time to eat! Ended up having a couple of crumpets, an apple and a chocolate biscuit. 528 calories today and 1158 in total for the b2b, very pleased with that.

I was supposed to be fasting today but I feel pretty terrible. Slept awfully, sore throat, headache, shaky 😭 just not sure it's going to happen 🙈

Today’s weigh in puts me at 10st5, so two pounds down from my last weight in mid August. Pretty pleased with that, although I’m not a fan of the new mechanical scales we have, they wobble around when I try to bend over to read the numbers 🤣

Hello Everyone, been AWOL due to a piece of consultancy work that grew like Topsy. Still been sort of IFing in the morning. Seem to have pitched a tent on my plateau 😊but at least I haven’t gained back. Going out with friends tonight to an Italian, but I don’t like pizza or pasta (I know, weirdo) so will stick to fish or meat, and all I’ve had today is a protein shake. Once this weekend is out of the way I will try to start my Super September, albeit rather late! Hope today’s fasts are going well.

Hello everyone 👋🏻 hope you haven't all melted this week!! 🥵🥵

I've only been getting one FD a week for the last bit of the holidays, hence not been very vocal 🙈🙈 but I did one yesterday and I've got rid of the 4lb gain at long last 🥳🥳🥳 plus an extra lb, so that's 13 down now 😊

Hopefully signing in for a 2nd FD tomorrow... but got a bit of a funny day and lunch out with a friend so will just have to see if I can not eat anything in the evening 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Just catching up on the thread after holiday, hope everyone is OK.
Tried to be good whilst away but life is too short not to over indulge once in a while 🤗3.4 lbs up after 2 weeks so not too bad. but def need to get back on it this week!

I'm on a mini plateau, weight hasn't budged for a week and I'm struggling to get back into it... Hardly any fast days in the last 2 weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️
