Ooh both those recipes sound lovely bear and fufulina are they posted on the recipe thread? I can never find them amongst these threads!
I’ve had a bit of a disaster day...
Black coffee til midday but took DD into town to sort out her malfunctioning iPad for school & got take away drinks - a vanilla shake - I was so hot and thirsty and hadn’t computed it was a milkshake. No idea if calories but it was very sweet so I’ve entered it as a McDonald’s shake at 377 cals! So that was my lunch. In fairness I didn’t even realise at 630pm that I should be making dinner for the family so at least it was filling! Steak and veg for dinner. No booze.
740 cals but an outrageous 90 carbs 😱

Kimlek · 27/06/2020 22:27

@bluebiddy I would highly recommend the first book... The Blood Sugar Diet, it’s a small paperback with a few recipes and neal plans at the back. But it’s all the research and science which I found incredibly useful. In fact I should read it again! The Fast800 recipe book is good but it’s carb heavy compared to the one before Blood Sugar Diet Recipe Book, which is excellent and good for getting into the correct habits. I have all 3.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/06/2020 22:28

@Kimlek mine is a Jamie Oliver one

www.web-goddess.org/archive/10096

I basically finely chopped sundried toms olives,,basil, feta, lemon and garlic, stuffed a chicken breast and then wrapped it in Parma ham.

I've tried IF before and find it easy enough to get started but I always fall off the wagon before I start to see results

I'll have a nosey online now

Kimlek · 27/06/2020 22:40

Yes @bluebiddy they are.

I started with the above book and then bought the Recipe Book to go with it a few months later. I only bought the Fast800 recipe book recently. So the first book will explain the principles etc.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/06/2020 22:59

Often the two books are 2 for £8 in Tesco

Thanks Kimlek and good tip thenewaveragebear1983!
I think a support platform will make a huge difference, not least because before I've only been accountable to myself iykwim! I could fall off and no one would know so I had no outside encouragement or motivation. I've had sooo many false starts but I'm truly fed up now because I haven't just gained weight, my body shape has changed and I feel like if I don't change things now, at 41, it'll be an uphill battle for the rest of my life. I'm looking forward to the group support Grin

fufulina · 28/06/2020 05:45

@Kimlek here you go
www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/crunchy-garlic-chicken?amp - mine was cooked after 40 minutes, not 25/30 (I have a meat thermometer which has changed my life and particularly my bbq’ing life!).

Kimlek · 28/06/2020 08:12

Thank you Fufulina it’s high calorie at 875 per serving. But dyou think that’s correct? Meat thermometer is a great idea... I’m dumbfounded that Ive never thought of that!
I’m static today despite the milkshake. Phew!!
Again, not sure what we’ll have for lunch or dinner but probs some sort of salad for lunch and BBQ for dinner. No booze!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/06/2020 08:18

@Kimlek I think that count either includes to potato and tomato, or is wrong. I suppose the mayo (if full fat) could be quite calorific though? Would light mayo work?

OP posts:
Bestbees · 28/06/2020 08:27

Morning!
Both chicken recipes sound great, but the crunchy garlic sounds super calorific. Could you just sub beaten egg for the mayo and get the sameish result?

Someone asked about my babaganoush. I made it. Recipe: roast two medium aubergines in hot oven for about 40 mins -prick skins first so they don't explode. Cool, peel and then I blitzed with 3tbsp olive oil, one tbsp tahini and lemon juice, salt, cumin and smoked paprika. I then weighed and divided into 4 portions of about 150 cals. Was delicious with crunchy celery, radish and green beans.
I drank lots and ate lots of crisps and it was so worth it. It made me realise how much my mental health has suffered not seeing people, and I have lots more energy today. Interestingly my friends all seem to have put on about 1/2 stone in lockdown. They told me this, but I couldnt tell!

I am hoping for a really good next couple of weeks with 800 a day, plenty of water and then 1000/1200 on Fri and sat probably.

@Bluebiddy the support here is great, getting me back on it all the time. And to be honest if I fall off each week it's still better than never being on it!

Food for today is
Lunch salad with egg, cottage cheese and coleslaw
Dinner turkey koftas with more salad!
Berries and yog.

Bluebiddy - I’m 42. Welcome to the happy 40s club.

I know we use weight as a yardstick and I can’t help but feel a bit happier when the scales go down. My weight has gone down but my jeans are tighter. My husband said I’m shrinking in height yesterday and it’s true I’m half an inch shorter than I was a few years ago! My Nan had osteoporosis and I feel like I’ve gained weight recently. Little worrying perhaps emphasises weight doesn’t tell you everything.

Anyway started the day with about 200 ml of milk in the coffee. There was a chocolate bar in the side and almost had a piece without even thinking! I have a long way to go.

Bluebiddy my body shape has changed too. We are similar ages (I am a bit older).

Some inspiration though a couple in their mid 70s have started low carb (still having veg - they don’t count that) have lost loads of weight and the lady is looking great her figure has changed. She was getting a tummy which looked like the tummy is women get as we get older but it’s going down her. Face is looking much less puffy. There we go ladies inspiration for us all. They did say low carb was key to stopping the appetite.

I’m wondering if the fast800 most recent recipe book is a bit high in carbs...

Good luck all.

Itshotoday · 28/06/2020 08:31

Damn trying to type using a phone is a challenge sorry.

Noshowofmojo · 28/06/2020 08:42

Hello! May I join you please? I started the Fast 800 on 24 June and have lost 6.5 lb so far. I have a LOT to lose. I (may be in the honeymoon period) really feel this is sustainable for me with just a bit of careful planning.

I have cut out bread/rice/pasta for months but I think my portion size has been a problem and that's what's been affecting previous progress. I'm now enjoying lunch and evening meals. I've done fasting for a while too and skipping breakfast suits me.

Are there any rules to this group that I should know? Thanks.

fufulina · 28/06/2020 08:55

Hi @Kimlek I counted on MFP without the breadcrumbs and assuming a chicken breast of 225g - it was over 500 per serving. Worth it though!

Kimlek · 28/06/2020 09:09

Hello @NoShowOfMojo crikey sounds like you are on it!! Well done you as that’s an incredible loss. Seems like you’re following the plan brilliantly too. There’s no rules as far as I know. You can share as much or as little as you like. Some post previous weight, goal weight, amounts lost and some don’t. There’s a good range here.
@Bestbees it was I. I’ve posted your babaganoush recipe to the BSD recipe thread so I’ll easily find it again but I incorrectly credited it to @Itshotoday Apologies! I’m thinking you could stuff the chicken with the ingredients and use yoghurt instead of mayo. Coating a chicken would use a lot more paste than stuffing it. I’d put the recipe into MFP or fat secret to see but I’m sure those calcs are wrong.
@itshotoday There’s some great recipes in fast800 recipe book but some of them are a tadge carb heavy but you’ll notice this immediately given you’ve been doing this a bit now. I think if you looked at that book with no other resources you could go quite off piste. I wanted to add that... There was a chocolate bar in the side and almost had a piece without even thinking! I have a long way to go. Shows that you’ve already come a long way as you didn’t eat it!!!

Kimlek · 28/06/2020 09:16

Aww thank you fufulina

Justasecondnow · 28/06/2020 09:19

Hi all, stuck with my 1200 plan yesterday, carbs I don’t know again... must get better at counting them up, I had:

Fried egg, bacon and sf beans
Chicken w/ blue cheese wrapped in ham and veggies
Small bar of Green and black (85 cals worth)
Milk for tea

Today I have roast dinner with family. Going to avoid big 5 (flour, bread, potatoes, sugar pasta/rice) and no dessert and no wine and should be ok. That’s the plan at least!

Then back on 800 tomos. Looks like you’re doing similar bestbees Hope it suits you too.

Just starting week 7 tomos - my thoughts for new starters are that its been great for weight loss (13lb in 6 weeks) and that the type and quality of food has meant ive not been as hungry as you’d think. But then at times I have been very hungry and rather fed up. And I am so looking forward to maintenance! It’s been worth it pushing through though. Mainly for the weight loss and I’ve learnt some great habits and gained confidence in my willpower. You can all do it!

Oh and thanks everybody for the recipe posting they look/ sound great! And def agree with meat thermometer. Game changer! I always used to overcook chicken. No more! Oh and late addition to breakfast chat. I also skip breakfast I’m never hungry til 11 so it suits me. I quite naturally fall into 16/8 - eating 12 -8.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/06/2020 09:22

@noshowofmojo welcome. There's no real rules as far as I know, we are certainly of the 'no shame in a gain' mentality. Feel free to post as much or as little as you want and ask any questions

I find the fast800 generally is more carby, and there are changes from the original BSD (such as more lentils recipes, unlimited green veg is mentioned, and some recipes use tropical fruit which is certainly not recommended in the original 8 week BSD plan) but I think it's because fast800 is being presented as a more mainstream diet plan whereas bsd was originally presented as a Medical intervention to halt T2 diabetes. I'd personally recommend reading both if you can and using recipes from both for variety.

I weighed in this morning at 10.9.4 which is 3lbs lower than last Sunday. I can't remember the last time I had such a focussed weekend. Didn't snack yesterday, very few carbs (even in the evening after a few g&t!) but didn't cal count or track anything. We ran 16km yesterday so it's very unusual for me to not be raiding the fridge all day and I'm due on in 4 days so this is very unusual for me!

Today I've listened to a hypno audio again (have to do it daily for 3 weeks ideally). We're going out for a walk later and I need to do yoga to stretch out the muscles after yesterday! . Lunch will be a brunch of bacon, egg and black pudding; dinner will be roast chicken and salad. I'm going to prep some roasted veg with herbs to have on salads this week, and will plan the menu out this afternoon for the week ahead.

OP posts:
Bluebiddy · 28/06/2020 10:12

For figures like this 10.9.4 is that stones, pounds and ounces?

Bluebiddy · 28/06/2020 10:22

I haven't yet bought the Blood Sugar Diet book but will do today/tomorrow. The science is very important to me and as Kimlek mentioned, the book does cover the scientific research so I'm looking forward to reading it. For those of you who have, does it cover how a long term calorie deficit can irreversibly affect metabolism? It that a concern for any of you? I don't know enough about metabolism yet, but I'm aware of cases where it has 'gone wrong' such as for participants in that reality show, The Greatest Loser, who have reported irreparable damage to their metabolism from long-term calorie restriction. I suppose what I want to know is, how 'safe' is the plan?
