I use ‘Happy Scale’ too. I really like it because of the way you can break it down into mini goals.

Well done WhatWillSantaBring ! I bet it will feel great when you get into the healthy BMI category. I can’t wait to get to that stage.

I’ve had my favourite lunch today - roasted harissa and goats cheese cauliflower steaks with red onions and pine nuts. Seriously tasty. Now I’m trying to build up to today’s workout but lacking a bit of motivation!

Lndnmummy · 26/07/2020 14:47

Hi everyone, you are all doing f so great and should be seriously proud of yourselves. I have fallen off the wagon completely and now weigh 78kg. I have 20kg to lose and at the moment it feels an impossible task.
I’m so angry with myself for letting it all go. I’m hoping that I can turn a corner and start afresh tmrw.

outwest · 26/07/2020 16:31

@WhatWillSantaBring In my head you live in a stately home with 10000 acres....

Should have said "Sherwood"! Reality is a small wood in a quiet part of west Wales. Just the sky, and branches against it.

I wonder if it seems to you
Luriana Lurilee
That all the lives we ever lived
And all the lives to be,
Are full of trees and changing leaves,

Can you share the recipe for these? Sounds delicious

I just leave out the panko bread crumbs.

I was about to ask Dinnerfor1 to share the recipe too.
@Lndnmummy Don’t be hard on yourself. Pick yourself up, dust yourself down and get back on the saddle. It sometimes takes a few goes at these things. What’s going wrong? Anything we can help with?

fufulina · 27/07/2020 07:30

Morning all, checking back in. I have now finished 12 weeks on the Fast800! Signing up for another 2 weeks.

Losses:
Week 1: 2.6 kg
Week 2: 1.6 kg
Week 3: 1.7 kg
Week 4: 1.4 kg
Week 5: 1.9 kg
Week 6: 0.6 kg
Week 7: 1.8 kg
Week 8: 2.2 kg
Week 9: 0 kg (was outraged)
Week 10: 1.2 kg
Week 11: 0.1 kg (more outraged)
Week 12: 1.9kg
Total: 17kg

Waist: -8.5"
Hips: -4.5"
Neck: -1.25" (this is the one I can really feel!)
Start BMI: 31.4, now 25.5

Fast800 was a good lockdown decision! So, signing up for two more weeks, which also takes me to my two week holiday from work, so hopefully can get into the healthy bracket and start the transition plans.

Other benefits: skin is remarkably clear and my jowls are definitely less jowly (thank god; they were really depressing me).
My pelvic floor is far better at doing its job (ahem).
My eyebrows are no longer patchy (WTF!? I have read that patchy eyebrows can be something thyroidy, but wonder if it's more hormoney and this woe has sorted that out?)
No longer breathless going from the kitchen to the loft
Am far more steady, mentally, I'm finding 'life' easier to cope with (useful during a global pandemic, WFH with two kids)
Have loved not drinking so much, and that's next on my list to address, mentally (Holiday! booze. Birthday! booze. Friday! booze - I want to break that association as I have started to do with food).

This thread has been fundamental as part of my Fast800 religious practice every morning - I suppose Michael Moseley would bucket this as my mindfulness - but it has been game changing to spend ten minutes every morning getting my head in the right place; reflecting on why I eat shite; reflecting on how I can be kind to myself, logging weight, BMI and planning food for the day. This thread has helped all of those things. So thank you all for sharing, for your candour and for your consistency!

Onwards and downards to a healthy BMI - I've not been there since 2015!

outwest · 27/07/2020 08:45

@fufulina Congrats. Down about 17kg here also, but probably far less in percentage terms than you, so your achievement even more impressive.

How do you plan to approach maintenance?

Dinnerfor1 · 27/07/2020 10:23

Does the picture of the recipe show up clearly enough? If not I can type it out. Well done for all the progress fufulina . It’s great that you’ve had lots of NSVs as well as the weight loss. I definitely have more energy since I started, although the probably comes from dragging around 3.5 stone less weight!

I’ve had a slow week for weight loss, but that always seems to happen when it’s my TOM. I’m really hoping to get out of the obese category by the time I have to go back to work in September, but still have another 1 stone 11lb for that so not sure it’ll be possible. I’m glad I’ve got myself well out of the dangerously obese category though.

How do people feel about others noticing the weight loss? I always find it really awkward as I’m quite self conscious. I’ve not seen any of my colleagues since schools closed in March, so by the time I see them in September I’ll be (hopefully) at least 4.5 stone lighter than when they last saw me! Now I’m worrying about having to talk about it for the first few days, they probably won’t notice and I’ll be disappointed Grin

Today I’m having chilli and coriander cod parcels for dinner and probably something simple like an omelette for lunch. The weather is awful here today so it will be a YouTube workout rather than a walk.

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/07/2020 10:35

So I’m STILL loving the podcasts lol. I’m like a woman possessed. My DP is genuinely scared. I’m really into the guys that promote 15 mins HIT each day. I’m going to do my first HIT workout today alongside my kids. There are loads on YouTube but I might just try and different one each day. I did see a recommendation on another thread so I’ll go look at that too.

Weight wise it’s gone down then up 🙈 I did start my period yesterday so I’ve no idea if this has anything to do with it. All I know is that I feel so much better on this WOE and that alone is enough for me 👌

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/07/2020 10:36

And huge congrats to everyone that’s lost and done brilliantly this week! 👊👏👏👏

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/07/2020 10:40

Also what’s very very interesting is all the experts agree that there’s one subsection of humans who particularly struggle to make their weight move downwards even on the most stringent of eating regimes, and yep that would be peri/menopausal women. We are an enigma to doctors and fitness professionals alike.

When both men and women in couples are following the exact same regime it’s common place for the man to lose 40lbs and the woman to lose 14lbs. They know it’s going to have a hormone basis but even the professionals can’t pin down what it is exactly. That at least made me feel like I wasn’t going mad. This shit is hard!

fufulina · 27/07/2020 13:32

@Dinnerfor1 what age are you? The last time I lost a shit load of weight I was 36 and people commented all the time. Now I am nearly 44 people say nothing! I think they are worried it may be illness/am too old for it to be polite!! It’s been a total difference. And, tbf, a welcome one. I’m more than my sodding weight!

@outwest a slow and steady shift to 5:2 over the next three months...

Kimlek · 27/07/2020 14:23

@Dinnerfor1 I’m sure they’ll notice as that’s a good amount to have shifted and well done to you!! Or they may notice & not comment but that’s ok. You don’t need them to. Nor have to explain. Just accept the compliment. And think ‘yeah, go me!’
@fufulina & @outwest I’m around 15/16kg down and thinking of starting a maintainence thread. Not sure if there already is one?

WhatWillSantaBring · 27/07/2020 14:28

@fufulina - that's awesome! I think a much better approach than me (I have done a meal replacement diet to lose my 3 stone, which has taken 5 months). I like the way you've addressed some of the mental side of things as well - you should be v proud of yourself.

@Dinnerfor1 - i know exactly what you mean. I hate people asking about it, but I also hate people not asking, IYSWIM. I had a flash of inspiration about that this morning, however. I think the reason I hate being asked is partly because it's like them basically them saying "you were a real fat biffa when we last saw you"; but mainly because I feel like the only time I get compliments is when I lose weight (this is the 5th time I've lost >2 stone in my life). I'm not particularly attractive and never get told I'm pretty or beautiful, and because I'm crap at sport, losing weight is one of the few externally visible "achievements" that I get praise for, so there is a real emotional connection with losing weight - the process of losing weight probably gives me more dopamine than actually weighing less. Which is why I hate being asked about it, because I worry that I will let myself put on weight just so that I can "achieve" losing weight again. (Sorry, I'm rambling).

@justanotherneighinparadise - what podcasts please? I was trying to find them last night.

Bloody tipping it down here today, so bored kids stuck in the house and no cricket to watch on TV.

NibbleQueen · 27/07/2020 14:55

Thank you for the recipe @Dinnerfor1, will definitely try that one. I ended up googling the recipe title and found it on the happy foodie website. I'm looking through my cookbooks to try and drum up low carb recipes for after hols (I'm kind of in it mode right now cos going on hols tomorrow) and wanted to share this book. She's BRILLIANT and this is her healthy eating cookbook. It's not low-carb specifically but has lots of ideas and most things can be adapted www.eatyourbooks.com/library/191838/a-change-of-appetite-where

wasgoingmadinthecountry · 27/07/2020 15:18

Hi, I'm inspired and amazed by your progress! Fufulina, seems there's hope for me.

Can I ask a question as someone on Day 3? I can't sleep - never was a good sleeper anyway, ever, but the last couple of nights have been terrible. Luckily I'm on school holidays so slept in late.

Will it improve? Are there any suggestions?

Thanks!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 27/07/2020 16:29

Afternoon all.

I've spent today going through some size 14 clothes from storage. I rather surprisingly have a pile of clothes that fit me now, and a pile that will fit pretty soon. I also found a brand new/tags still on workwear dress that I'm determined will be what I go back to work in in Sept.

I'm disappointed with my progress in July tbh, feel like I've wasted time. I've exercised LOADS but not stuck to the diet for a sustained length of time, and therefore will be lucky if I even lose 7lbs - when I lost a whole stone in June.

My next interim target (4 stones lost) is 11bs away and I have until the end of August to get there. Fingers crossed!!

Today I've done TRE 18/6, had courgetti and chicken for lunch and I'm having more meat and veg for tea. My kcals should come in under 800. I've also cycled 22km and done a BodyPump workout.

I listened to some podcasts last night. I've listened the obesity code ones previously but last night listened to a low carb MD one. They're so good!

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/07/2020 16:46

Whatwillsantabring LowCarbMD. There’s over 100 of them so a huge amount of information. It’s fabulous!

Dinnerfor1 · 27/07/2020 16:59

@fufulina I’m 36. Where I work, people are very interested in diets and talk about it a lot so I’ll prepare myself for comments.

@WhatWillSantaBring I know exactly what you mean about partly disliking the comments because the implication can be, “Wow you were so fat last time I saw you!” Which in my case is true Blush

@NibbleQueen That recipe book looks lovely. I always like finding new things to make.

I’ve still not found the motivation to do my workout yet. I really need to get in the habit of doing it when I get up.

Miffytastic · 27/07/2020 20:33

Help- how do you manage holidays?

Going away tomorrow for 4 days camping - can’t decide on a plan of action for it. Have been doing f800 every day for 6 weeks. Do I just say sod it and eat whatever, or do 16:8 ? Or try to do Mediterranean eating whilst camping? (I’m vegan and the rest of the family isn’t btw). Any thoughts welcome :-) thank you

Dinnerfor1 · 28/07/2020 08:45

I’m sorry @Miffytastic I haven’t been on holiday since starting so I’m not sure. I’d say try and at least stick to 16:8, have Mediterranean meals but don’t worry about going over 809 calories? But I know I’d find it really difficult on holiday! Good luck and have a lovely time.

I’ve lost 1.2lb this week. I’m fairly happy with this as it’s been TOM.

Polkadotties · 28/07/2020 10:04

Hello everyone I’m jumping aboard. I’ve done low carb /keto on and off for years but never calorie counted.
I have PCOS and I think low carbing and eating high fat whatever I want just isn’t working, I don’t get the initial two week loss, my weigh fluctuates within a few lbs.
Going to give this whirl, I think I need to low calorie aspect to break through whatever my body is doing.
Weighed in this morning at 13.9.4. I’m 31 and 5ft6

elfycat · 28/07/2020 12:39

Hi. Just starting my second go at BSD. 3 years ago I lost about 2.5 stone over the length of BSD and sensible eating afterwards - and it stayed off for a while. Then there was the inevitable creep upwards as I didn't pay attention... and lockdown was not great for me.

So I am probably the heaviest I have ever been according to my clothing just as being overweight is a BAD THING. And I'm heading on to 50 years old and just about to leave peri-menopause for full on menopause and need to do better right now.

I'm on day 2 of BSD, but allowing up to 7 days of increased snacks if I get a headache/feel crap. I don't weigh for the first time until day 10 of a diet. I find this makes me less depressed and likely to comfort eat about the number (will be over 16 stone at the moment) as I know I've lost some and am already making good process - sod the number I know it was worse a few days back.

I just have to keep busy and away from the boredom snacks for a few days until it stops being a habit.

outwest · 28/07/2020 14:06

Welcome @Polkadotties. Personally have never lost any significant weight without calorie counting. Think it keeps me honest, as it were, and gives me far more accurate view of real consumption. Human nature being what it is, temptation when not counting is both to guess and to err on side of optimism.

As mentioned earlier in thread, if I stop counting it usually means that psychologically I am finding it hard to count because am aware at some level that my self-defined limits are being exceeded, i.e. am cheating. Result is cognitive dissonance, and dissonance is resolved simply by no longer counting, but that accelerates or cements trend of gaining weight.

Usual caveat: everybody is different.

As for calories, for me keeping calories low seems more important than focusing on carbs, but others in this thread find keeping carbs low equally important. If focusing on low calories, carbs tend to be low anyway as a consequence, so perhaps more an issue of fine tuning.
