I’m loving the discussion on here regarding the minutiae. It really helps me so thank you.

I skipped breakfast and had cauliflower soup for lunch with some Parmesan. Dinner I’m planning on eating the chicken from that family curry I’m preparing later but I’ll have mine with broccoli and obviously skip the naan.

justanotherneighinparadise · 15/07/2020 15:02

I was down this morning so maybe that’s something to be pleased with. I’m not down into my pre holiday numbers let alone the numbers I need to get into actual weight loss proper so a long long way to go 🤦🏻‍♀️

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/07/2020 19:14

Closing up today on 1259 cals, 38g carbs, 16k steps (5km run) plus an hour kayaking which was surprisingly hard work!

Food was ok but not amazing. I made the spicy chicken and lentil from the BSD book. It wasn't nearly as nice as the chicken lentil and coconut one from the F800 book.
Tomorrow, no run as it's rest day but will do bootcamp in the evening. Food will be smoked salmon and scrambled egg and dinner will be the pork and apple thing we mentioned earlier!

Feel tired today and also feel weirdly keto-ish although I'm not actually showing as in ketosis.

Hi all, Still chugging along. Really want to get to Friday weigh in and assess the damage. Today’s effort:

Ham omelette with sugar free baked beans
Aubergine lasagna from BSD recipe book
Milk for tea
More dark chocolate (this is becoming a habit!)

Again about 1000, maybe 1100, not sure of carbs. This isn’t really me ‘on it’ but its ok as under weather with a cold. Really tempted to use that as an excuse to put off another week but know I don’t really really want to do that. Just an impulse/habit that food would make me feel comforted/better. But I’d just end up eating badly and feel worse.

Do want to get back to 800 cals next week though. Have decided to do this for another 5 weeks. Would bring to 12 weeks total with a week off in middle. Will feel gave it good shot!

Plancina · 15/07/2020 19:44

Feeling stressed because the tenants who live in the house we are buying are refusing to leave and it may mean we have to pull out when we have spent over £1000 on surveys etc. They own their own home but are refusing to move into it because there is work being done on it. They also seem to be refusing to rent something else. Their lease ended in June - they are using covid legislation to stay. So upset and annoyed, I can’t believe anyone would be this selfish. It will mean not only us but the vendor losing their new home they’ve offered on plus who knows how many other people in the chain.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/07/2020 19:46

@Plancina what, that's awful! People are so selfish sometimes aren't they. Hopefully they will see sense and move out!

Hi all. Brand new newbie here. Lost 17kg when my marriage broke down. Mostly through just not eating or eating massively reduced amounts because I couldn't stomach more.

Now I'm mostly recovered from the emotional trauma I've reverted to old comfort eating habits and the weight is starting to creep back on. I tried 16:8 eating as I don't generally do breakfast anyway but I didn't do much reading you first and I suspect I was making our choices during my 8 hours and still comfort bingeing on tonnes of sugar.

I'm going to try the fast 800, at least for a week, see if I can get my head around it whilst also feeding two small children who mostly live off carbs.

Other than drink lots of water and keep emergency stash of 90% chocolate in the house any tips for an emotionally eater who's bored rigid at home?

Justasecondnow · 15/07/2020 20:45

Plancina what arseholes. And clearly not what that legislation is for given they have somewhere to go. Is there any options open to your vendor or are they stuck appealing to said arseholes better nature?

On a happier note - hello CanWeComeIntoTheOutNow I always advise taking measurements at the start. Otherwise as much planning as poss, and coming on here to talk if you struggle. The opening post has lots of great info too. You can do this!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/07/2020 20:55

@CanWeComeIntoTheOutNow welcome! Planning is definitely key, I plan the menu for the week with the main protein and also what the add ons will be for the 'carbivores' usually courtesy of uncle Ben and his microwave rice or wedges or something like that! I use my freezer a lot for meat etc so I can get everything out the day before, saves wastage. And I agree to take your measurements too, it can be very motivating. Good luck!

Ack. Meal planning is always where I fall down. Organisation does not come easily to me!
I will try harder at that. Must try and find the recipes thread here. The links in the first post don't seem to work Smile

Thanks for the warm welcome. New boyfriend is a foodie so we've been encouraging each other in bad habits.

outwest · 15/07/2020 20:59

Blow-out day. Drat.
B: Black coffee - 2 cals
L: Broccoli, mushroom and halloumi fry-up - 430 cals
D: Spanish chicken with chorizo and beans - 495 cals.
Spanish chicken (excellent, very filling) was followed a completely gratuitous chocolate puddle pudding, perhaps 400 cals, but too scared to calculate accurately. (See @Bestbees - we all do something stupid at some point!)

Anyway. Total 1,350-ish. Did a couple of hours splitting wood this afternoon, probably burned 350 cals, maybe bit more if DOMS in upper back any guide. Hopefully exercise offset worst of it, taking net total down to 1,000 but still 200 over target (best case scenario).

Interestingly, felt bit unwell after pudding. No longer used to sugar surge? Waiting to see what damage this wreaks on tomorrow's weigh-in. In theory, still ran substantial deficit today, but can't really expect to get off lightly after poking insulin with a stick like this.

@Justasecondnow we just have to see if the estate agent can persuade them to leave - there’s literally nothing the landlord can do as all evictions are banned and when they do reopen there’ll be a massive backlog. They also don’t seem to care about the impact an eviction would have on their credit file - EA said he would explain this to them again tomorrow as it stops you being able to do loads of things, even hiring a car etc apparently.

Meal thread

@can the book menu is very good if you struggle to plan, but maybe not especially child friendly. You also cannot really go wrong with a basic meat + salad/veg option a few nights a week (eg chicken breast and salad, fish and mushy peas, steak and mushrooms, bolognese on veg (kids have pasta) etc.

Weighed in today at 10.7.5 so another pound off, still not quite back to my fighting weight from last week! Last weekend certainly is taking time to recover from! This weekend it's my birthday so will probably end up doing it all again, although after Sunday we have no commitments and 3 weeks until holiday in which to do some serious fast800 shizzle.

Excited to be going back to my beauty lady today and pick up my collagen treatments on my tummy again, they were really making a massive difference. And nice just to have a bit of normality coming back,

Lots of very interesting discussion yesterday. Can’t recall who was considering a ‘maintaining’ rest versus ploughing on. I did exactly this in March/April/May. Started BSD & low cal after Xmas (not always 800 but not far off). Went from 12st to 11st by mid Feb and BMI 25. Due to lockdown, kids & DH at home & own sanity decided to try to maintain at 11st ish. It was very easy tbh. Come mid May I felt able to crack on again albeit I’ve not got back into the groove properly as scuppered by park picnics, alcohol and pub lunches. But down a further 10lbs nevertheless. So I’m not sure if the maintaining was helpful or not. I know I can maintain without calorie counting and just avoiding the major culprits. But that’s a double edged sword as I still need to lose another 6lbs or so yet seem very reluctant to plan and do insist on ‘maintaining’ methods rather than losing methods. I’m not sure I’m explaining myself very well.

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/07/2020 09:21

I’m back to my pre holiday wright this morning so finally the scales are moving in the right direction!!’

I feel very empowered now I’m tracking carbs. It’s so interesting! I also listened to Michael Moseley on a podcast yesterday afternoon whilst hoovering and he is very good at explaining things to a layman. I thought I enjoyed Dr Fung but actually in hindsight I realised a lot of the science went over my head. With Dr Moseley it was just so simple I was almost embarrassed I hadn’t realised the significance of starch for example and how the body reacted. Fascinating!

WhatWillSantaBring · 16/07/2020 09:44

that was me @Kimlek - though today I'm feeling thoroughly despondent about the prospect of getting to my interim goal by the end of the month. 5lbs in two weeks is unattainable, I think, (especially when I have a party in the middle, which I'm kidding myself to think I can get through on 800 cals).

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/07/2020 09:48

When I was completing 36 hour fasts every other day I was losing 1.5lb at the end of each fast. So it’s possible to lose very quickly but it’s not easy!

Plancina · 16/07/2020 10:25

64.85 so a gain of 700g after my night out and lazy day! Hoping to get to 63 by the weekend, and it’s firmed my resolve not to plan any more evenings out until after the wedding.

Kimlek · 16/07/2020 10:51

@justanotherneighinparadise don’t suppose you have a link to the podcast please? Yes, 36hr fast wouldn’t be easy. How often did you do those? I’ve done one 24hr fast (just missing lunch & dinner) but only one time in the 7 months I’ve been eating this way.
@WhatWillSantaBring I think maintaining at your halfway mark shifts your mindset. Especially if it’s been longer than 8 weeks. For a start, I realised I could do this long term. Could go slowly. Could be kind. A glass of wine here or there was absolutely fine. What works well & what doesn’t. Needing to watch complacency. But enjoying food/drink. It was an important 3 months. I was so worried about maintaining a goal weight before I even started. So concerned that after lots of effort it would all go back on again. So a 3 month maintain proved it was possible. Not too tricky at all. (A caveat here is we were in lockdown. Zero socialisation made it seriously easy!!) However, I know when I reach my goal weight that maintaining is possible. It’s no longer a worry. I can keep it off forever. No ‘hopefully’ forever, or ‘fingers crossed’. So in that sense it was a crucial pause.
Having said all this and supposedly back on it, I’ve no idea what I’m eating today. I’m shopping tomorrow so will plan for next week. I’m still finding it hard everyone at home, weather changes! If I plan a salad, it’s cold & rainy. Plan a casserole it’s 26’!!

Plancina · 16/07/2020 12:04

My brunch fast-breaker was a bit of a fail as the eggs were super runny which grosses me out so I couldn’t eat all of it. DP ordered it and “forgot” to tell them to do the eggs well done even though he knows I have a deep aversion to undercooked yolks.

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/07/2020 12:45

This one. I just searched fast800 on Spotify and a few choices came up. This was the first and thought it was 👌. I liked how he was allowed to speak without interruption.

Just dumping this here while I remember.
1 cup green tea w. no milk
1 cup tea w. tiny splash milk (10.30)
Salad w. Grated carrot, cucumber, cherry tomatoes. 1 dessert spoon boursain, 1 dessert spoon hummus, 1 tbsp coleslaw, 1 slice ham, 3 strips cold barbequed chicken.

Small portion mixed fruit salad w. Natural yoghurt (3 tbsp)

Had lunch at friend's. She's a feeder and the world's biggest carboholic so I've actually got off lightly. Don't even know if I'll have room for dinner so as long as I can stay away from the snacky sugary crap...

Justasecondnow · 16/07/2020 13:40

Sorry placina that sucks. Will keep fingers crossed it comes good for you.

And outwest I love the Spanish chicken too, the BSD recipe book has some corkers in I think. (The puddle cake looked good too - but prob less said the better!)

Hope collagen treatments goes well thenewaveragebear1983 is it super pricey?

Well done justanotherneighinparadise I was also going to ask for the podcast too but was beaten to it! Thanks! I also need the straightforward explanations!

And sounds like a good first day can.

Oh and kimlek I like your maintenance musings. After misbehaving on week off finding ease in week ok (who’d a thought 1000 cals seems generous!) gives me hope for maintenance despite my recent crash of the wagon.

Right I’m seriously procrastinating on here.. better go do some work.
