Thread 20, can you believe it?

Chickpea Chilli, from p.104 of the Blood Sugar Diet recipe book. May look underwhelming, actually very good. Filling, so good bang for buck (270 cals).

Belated question: should these posts go to recipe thread, or OK here?

Either or both, it doesn't matter. Nice to have the recipe thread with just meal recommendations/ideas

I find the bsd book to be a bit underwhelming when I read the recipes but when I actually cook them they are usually good.

42 hips
33 waist
38 bust

A disappointing 3 inches back from n the waist. Bust is the same and hips are up by 2.

Mind you I have to measure with a metal tape because I couldn't find my dressmaking tape!

Still. A good 5 inches to get rid of. I'm only 5'4" so it's noticeable. I'm sure I've put on weight on my thighs as my skinny jeans feel a lot tighter there but I'm not going to try and measure my thighs with a metal tape measure!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/07/2020 14:18

@Justasecondnow I paid £240 for 6 sessions although they should be done in fairly quick succession and I've obviously had a four month break so I may need to add another couple on the end. To be honest I am not sure it's going to give the results I hoped for but I am glad I tried it plus my skin is absolutely destroyed so maybe it was wishful thinking a little bit. I can see a difference but I think my stomach is still worse than a lot of people's!

One of the things that really made me sit up was his comment in that podcast re. waist size. He said that you can already see who is heading into an insulin resistant/prediabetic state years before a diagnosis by measuring their waist size. As a rough guide your waist should be around half your height. The thicker your waist the more likely you are to get diabetes so he wants doctors to be measuring peoples waists as routine.

I think the reason it just made me stop and think is directly I follow a low carb/intermittent fast type diet my waist just shrinks dramatically. It’s SO obvious. Directly I eat carbs freely again my waist thickens quickly. I hasn’t really put the two together aside from ‘oh I’ve just lost a little weight’.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/07/2020 17:05

@justanotherneighinparadise yes I listened to it today and that struck with me, also how as GPs they can see that there is metabolic disruption when they see the big waist but don't tend to bring up weight unless that's specifically what the patient is there for.

That’s right! So much of what he said was just durrrr! Of course! Like when he said that white rice being a staple of a poor economy was a cheap way to give energy to people who were physically working very hard. I had never put those things together before.

Had a weird day today, and I've ended up eating loads of rubbish after my dinner and now feel a bit sick, which won't bode well at bootcamp this evening. I would cry off but I've paid in advance so I'll go but might throw up. I feel very very tired, and a bit tearful/hormonal although it's not PMT time. I'm cross with myself though because I've worked hard this week to just about undo the weekend, and now I've wasted a day and the weekend starts again tomorrow! It will be a big, fairly off plan one too, because it's my birthday Sunday. We are going to a local pub for a meal on Saturday, shopping Saturday day time so probably lunch out too, and then for Sunday my dd is making a red velvet cake with meringue icing Blushso, doomed before I even start huh?!

Monday. Monday is a good day to start on fast800 again properly, and I could still get to my target before I go on holiday, right?! That's 3 weeks on Saturday. My aim was to lose a stone in 6 weeks and as of this morning I'd lost 6lbs (in my usual yo yo fashion), so it's possibly doable before I go away depending on the damage done this weekend!

Closing on 797 cals for the day.

B: Black coffee - 2 cals
L: Chickpea Chilli - 270 cals
Braeburn apple - 71 cals
D: Pork steaks with Dijon mustard sauce - 290 cals
Mixed leaf salad and low-oil dressing - 50 cals
30g cheese - 114 cals

Weight down 300g this morning. Odd.

Found 5:2 comments and discussion useful, thank you.

@thenewaveragebear1983 you could definitely make your goal in three weeks, I have lost 6 pounds in two weeks actually on the plan then put some on again after hen night! I wish so much I had started this weeks ago in actual lockdown when nothing was open.
I’m so annoyed about these selfish tenants that all I want is wine.

Justasecondnow · 16/07/2020 21:21

thenewaveragebear1983 £240 isn’t too bad! I have always viewed my tummy as a lost cause (even before kids!) classic apple shape. But if I get to goal maybe I should lavish some attention on it..

And yes def enjoy your birthday - eat the cake etc! Safe in the knowledge you can do this no probs as of Mon. I’m going to be really on it from mon. I’ve been ok this week but not properly tracking. So we can do it together!

Today’s efforts (bit better as weigh in tomos)

Tuna avocado salad
Chicken lime laksa
Sugar free jelly
Milk in tea

Prob about 900 and who knows carbs wise but fairly good.

Went for an hours walk after tea with that podcast (thanks!) broke the after tea chocolate habit and was really interesting.

Plancina · 16/07/2020 21:30

I’m going to listen to the podcast in the bath to avoid the wine Grin I need a solid week to try and lose another 1-2kg.
Food was good today:

1/2 a poached egg and veg followed by a properly cooked veg and egg omelette
Chicken and veg stir fry
No snacks! Medals please! Grin

Tomorrow:
Leftover chicken and veg stirfry + a banana pancake with strawberries
Aubergine and lamb roast thing from the online plan (sort of like deconstructed moussaka!)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/07/2020 07:43

@Justasecondnow yes we can definitely do it!

Today, I'm 10.8, so a little half pound up from yesterday but then I did go awry. It sounds like a cop out a bit but I actually think restarting my bootcamp classes in such an enthusiastic fashion (ie I've done 6 in 2 weeks now with another tomorrow) will be skewing my results a little anyway. I should step away from the scales really. I'm looking very toned right now (which I suppose is fair given that I have missed only 3 days workout in the whole of lockdown) and maybe I need to stop being quite so harsh to myself about an occasional cake-mistake. Do you know what's really improving my hiit workouts as well?? Yoga. Breathing. So I'm really tapping into Adrienne's voice when I'm working out and it's helping me so much.

Anyway. Today I have a mini pTA function as two of our members are leaving the school, then a picnic lunch with my friend and her dc, which will hopefully involve the dc playing together and us having a good natter. Will squeeze in a run between the two. Dinner will be harissa chicken from the book but I'm not sure I've got harissa paste so it might be 'chicken a la cupboard supplies' and as we're having picnic lunch I will seize the opportunity to eat small and light and only pack myself a super healthy salad box with minimal calories.

Sounds like you’re all on plan!
bear you’re probably all muscle and your ‘weight’ is deceptive. You’ll be pretty fit and healthy & I’m sure you look lighter than you actually are. You say yourself that you’re very toned. Maybe your ‘weight’ isn’t that relevant?
Relevant for me though as I’m all squishy at 10.1.8 this morning. Playing tennis later and will do a brisk dog walk. Think it’s going to be warm so probably a salad for lunch and a BBQ tonight (meat & salad).

UsuallyJustLurk · 17/07/2020 08:43

Hi everyone! Just checking in as it's now been two weeks since I started. I'm now 13.5lbs down overall (sooo close to that stone!) and in new numbers. So pleased that my hard work is paying off and my "lockdown" weight is gone at least. I'm off work for the next week and we'll be having a few family days out so I've planned it all out, just need to make sure I stick to it all and keep any treats to the absolute minimum.
I'd originally planned to do the two weeks strict BSD and review after that and possibly switch to the 5:2 but I'm used to this now and really enjoying the results. As I have a lot to lose still I'm going to persevere for now but I think it helps mentally to know there is an alternative if I need it. Helps to have this thread and you guys to check back to too, knowing I'm not alone! Have a great day Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/07/2020 09:05

@Kimlek deep down I know you're probably right but I'm all about the numbers. It's my sickness...Grin

Postmanbear · 17/07/2020 09:18

@UsuallyJustLurk that’s an amazing weight loss, well done!

According to the scales I’ve now lost the 3 pounds I put on in my mad week. That’s with having a couple of drinks on Wednesday night too! Most importantly I feel more mentally balanced, I felt out of control for a few days.
I’m off on holiday for 2 weeks on Monday so going to be on plan until then and then try to avoid bread etc as much as I can. I will get back on it in August. Only 5 pounds to go until I reach my goal weigh so that should be achievable if I don’t put on too much on holiday.

UsuallyJustLurk · 17/07/2020 09:22

Thank you @newaveragebear1983 ! Just caught up on the thread a bit and does sound like you could be kinder to yourself, I definitely get it though, we're our own worst critics! Your exercise discipline is admirable, I'm hoping to be as motivated as you one day. I also do yoga with Adrienne but that's about the only exercise I enjoy at the moment, I'm trying to do HIIT and strength stuff but I have to force myself into it and I can't wait for it to be over. I'm waiting for the addiction to start, hope it's soon!

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/07/2020 09:22

Usually that’s brilliant 👏

Plancina · 17/07/2020 09:30

@UsuallyJustLurk wow, what amazing results! Did you use the online plan or just the book?

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/07/2020 09:43

I also really liked MM’s explanation of the online plan. I probably did think it was solely a money making exercise but it did make sense when he said he had to put together a lot of well qualified people to oversee the plan with the sole purpose of collecting data.

He said he couldn’t see the NHS/government changing their national eating directive until they had a large amount of data put in their laps. So that is his plan, he wants to prove that eating a large amount of grain based food as your core nutrition is deeply unhelpful for metabolic illnesses a s weight gain.

I have a theory though that to provide enough food for everyone it surely has to be grain based as that’s how the agricultural industry grew alongside population increase. If everyone decided a high protein diet was way forward and gave up wheat and oats that would be very bad for the environment surely?

I guess intermittent fasting decreases food consumption so perhaps that’s what would offset the environmental load however we know that many people won’t stick to that regardless of how great for their health it is.

Plancina · 17/07/2020 09:53

64.1kg today - have lost all the water weight I gained on my hen night. Praying for the 63s tomorrow!

UsuallyJustLurk · 17/07/2020 10:54

Thanks @justanotherneighinparadise and @plancina

I just read the book, didn't realise it was online too!
