Anyone interested in joining me here? I posted this on an older thread so will just copy and paste my story below:

I'm on day 8 doing the 16/8. I'm loving it!! I'm against dieting as restrictions always lead me to binges and feeling rubbish. I haven't weighed myself in 5 years as I got rid of my scales due to a very unhealthy obsession with weighing myself. I am very interested in intuitive eating and have been trying to get in tune with my body but it's been hard and the lockdown has thrown me off guard and I was overeating, feeling bloated and fed up. I'm loving 16/8. My eating window is 11-7 and I find this fits well with my lifestyle. I'm surprised at how much energy I have in the morning. Even managing an hour long walk with the dog ...getting up at 7 as well with lots of energy. Feeling less bloated and just happier overall! I think this is really helping me be more intuitively about what I actually want! Having good, hearty food. Butter and cheese and full fat yoghurt! These foods were always a no no for me but I much prefer theses to fat free/low fat options. I feel satisfied after my meals too .
Oh and I can't do this without a bit of milk in my morning coffee ( freshly brewed filter) so haven't cut that out. And have had a cheeky glass of wine during my eating window ...🍷

Hi everyone!
I'm feeling much better today, went out for a long walk this morning, before it got too hot! Broke my fast at 1.15pm with tea and a bread roll and salad.
Dinner will be roast chicken, homeade wedges and veg later
I weigh myself on Fridays but dont expect to have a loss this week due to almost 3 days in bed ill but i'm okay with that.
Just sitting in the park in the sunshine at the moment (i live in a flat so no garden!)
Hope you're all enjoying the weather!

EastofEdna · 24/06/2020 07:07

Hello, can I join in please? I need to lose 2 stone and am determined to do it "this" time. I am sick at looking at my fat neck in video chats!

I know I can do the 18:6 fast, I just have failed miserably at doing it consistently, so my goal for the next seven days is to stick to it and not be too draconian over calories.

Wish me luck.

Today is day one:

Sissy31 · 24/06/2020 09:36

Welcome and Good luck @EastofEdna
This thread is great for support!

Its going to be a lovely days today, i usually find it eat less in the warm weather but drink LOTS of water!

Pandapotato · 24/06/2020 20:40

Glad you are feeling better @Sissy31.

Welcome @EastofEdna. Good luck!

A better week for me so far in terms of not pigging out on sweet stuff during my window. Had some falafel and salad to break by 18 hours today & pesto veg pasta tonight. The teenager & dh have got the munchies this evening so wish me luck at not joining in!

EastofEdna · 25/06/2020 08:37

thank you for the welcome @Pandapotato and @Sissy31

Day 1 done: must remember that slow and steady will give me results, I get a bit mad when there aren't spectacular results immediately!!

My Day 2 goal is to do another Headspace meditation on Mindful Eating - I want to get into a consistent daily practise + drink 2l water.

It feels very odd not to put my name on the bottom of a message - it is definitely not the done thing on MN :-)

004aga · 25/06/2020 08:43

Can someone please give me an idea if how this works? My lockdown weight has rocketed and I'm avoiding waistbands 😳. Is it literally just eating what you like for the 8 hours or is there more to it than that?

Loopyloopy · 25/06/2020 09:09

004aga - it depends. I'm seeing results by eating reasonably healthily the rest of the time, but still having treats. I think you are meant to avoid snacking and alcohol.

Sissy31 · 25/06/2020 09:21

Welcome @004aga
Depends what 'eatng what you like' looks like. Eg, if you are snacking allday on junk and having takeaway style food then you probably wont see a differance.
Like most on here i eat healthy but alsos have treats. Yesterday i had a ice cream,a couple of weeks back i had pizza, when its TOTM i have some chocolate. I actually find i crave more healthy foods now and sweet things taste even sweeter now for some reason.
Starts off slow. Only water, black tea or coffee during your 16 hour fast (no sugar milk or sweetners) then make healthy choices but include the odd treat if you wish and see how it goes and judge by your results after a few weeks then you can ajust. Drink plenty of water during your fast and this thread is here if you need help/advice/vent Smile

004aga · 25/06/2020 12:32

Thanks so much, am not a big snacker generally but have definitely developed a lock down boredom eating habit, I'm hoping that by only eating during a certain time period it may refocus me a bit more. So that I am actually hungry and have a decent meal rather than rubbish. Thanks again 😊

FlameFartingDragon · 25/06/2020 18:06

Going to jump in too onto this thread.

I am going to try 16:8 for health reasons and weight loss. My diet will mostly be plant based and include 2l of lemon water and a turmeric tea each day.

When does everyone find is a good time to do their exercise?

CaveMum · 25/06/2020 18:52

Welcome Flame, personally I do my exercise first thing in the morning. I’m doing Couch to 5k (just completed week 7) so do my runs as soon as I get up at 6.15am.

As far as the “best time” goes, I’m sure I read something that said doing your exercise during your Fast is the best as your body will already be in fat burning mode.

Sissy31 · 26/06/2020 22:06

Hi everyone
Weigh day today and ive put on 1lb Sad
Kind of expected though as ive been ill and taking painkillers throughout the day and night so technically not in a true fasted state most of this week, plus almost TOTM so could be worse!
Lets hope this week is better now i am feeling well again ! Smile

Pandapotato · 27/06/2020 07:05

Morning! I’ve been a bit better the past few days at not pigging out during my window. Going to wait till Monday to weight myself. I’m due on soon, and already feeling massively bloated.
Does anyone else get the minging breath when fasting? Any top tips?
Have a great weekend all!

FlameFartingDragon · 27/06/2020 11:20

Thanks for the welcomes!

I am going to on Monday. I have sort of started looking at recipes and trying to meal plan.

No exercise today either as it's pouring.

@Pandapotato I like the little mini bottles of breath freshener you can get it M&S for a quick fix. I didn't realise this was a potential issue though - does it go away after a while?

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 27/06/2020 12:47

Afternoon all. I went a bit awol after I only lost 1lb in week three (despite knowing full well that this plateau would happen) but I'm back on it now. Hoping to get under the next stone bracket at weigh in on Weds.

Did some batch cooking this morning, found a fab playlist on Spotify and I'm feeling very good. 👍🏻😊

Going fruit picking tomorrow with a friend and it feels so nice to start making plans again.

CaveMum · 27/06/2020 14:16

According to my scales yesterday I have put a lb back on, which I know is quite frankly bollocks as I’ve been practically saint-like in sticking to my window, exercising and counting calories. I’m putting it down to (sorry, tmi) constipation so will be upping my water intake.

Pandapotato · 27/06/2020 19:17

Thanks @FlameFartingDragon! No m&s local to me ☹️ And can’t go more than 5 miles still here in wales. Will look out for some breath spray though, top shout.
I think it’s a thing when your body is burning fat stores to get bad breath. It only generally happens to me after about 16/17 hours in. Grim! But a good sign!

Loving the motivated vibes @WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa! Jealous of your fruit picking.

One word @CaveMum, prunes!

After congratulating myself this morning on not being a pig during my window this week, I blew it today and we had a special brunch of pancakes & bacon. So good!! Made up for it with some roast veg & jackets for dinner. Also very good!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Pebbleinthesand · 28/06/2020 22:47

Would love to join this thread please. I've read a lot of it (skipped some since it's quite long) to get a bit more of idea of what I'm doing.

I was initially thinking of doing 14:10 fast but having read the thread I think I'm going to aim for 16:8 and see how I get on.

My only worry is drinking during fast as I don't particularly like water (except when exercising, strangly) and thought I'd be able to drink diluted no added sugar squash until I starting reading a bit more. I tried a slice of lemon in my water today but I get the impression that that's not allowed either?

I've had a bit of a go at it today. Fasted from late last night when I started reading about it until 10am today. I stopped eating at 8pm and I'm hoping to make it though to 12 tomorrow.

Sissy31 · 29/06/2020 19:30

Hi @Pebbleinthesand
I dont like plain water either but after a few days i didnt mind it too much, as long as its cold from the fridge or with ice.
Try it for a week and hopefully you will get used to it

Pebbleinthesand · 29/06/2020 19:44

Thanks @Sissy31 I managed okay on water today so hopefully like you've said I'll get used to it.

I'd rather at least attempt to do it properly first rather than starting with bending the rules.

I managed to get to 12 quite easily today but my little girl slept in until around 9 after a bad night's sleep so I think that helped. I'm on work tomorrow so I think once I've left the house I'll be fine because I'll have no option other than to just get on with it until lunch time. Hopefully the kids will keep me busy enough to stop me thinking about food.

WinterAndRoughWeather · 29/06/2020 21:04

Right, as predicted we fell off the wagon a little bit this week. Not so much with the fasting but we’ve been very busy and a bit stressed finishing our renovation project (or at least, this phase of it) because of an immovable deadline. We’ve been eating quite badly in the window as a result.

To get back on track we’re going to combine 16:8 with a couple of weeks of fast 800 (with a day off in the middle for partner’s birthday).

Starting tomorrow. Should be able to get into a more normal routine as partner is back wfh after three weeks of furlough and I don’t have to be up ladders / digging / drilling all day until the autumn now.

Pandapotato · 30/06/2020 09:34

Welcome @Pebbleinthesand. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

Interested to hear how you get on with the 800 @WinterAndRoughWeather. I’ve been off the wanton a bit lately with my food choices too.
Back on it this week and determined to break the 2lbs I’ve been fluctuating around for a couple of weeks.
I’m starting 1 day a week at work from tomorrow and going to see if being out of the house and not cooking for 5 people at lunch time will help me have a longer fast. But me period just arrived, so I may need to eat everything in sight over the next few days!

Hope everyone is getting on ok?

FlameFartingDragon · 30/06/2020 11:28

So, I was OK from Sunday to Monday, however, this morning I found myself making instant noodles at 4am. I was ravenous.

Can't help with the water issue - I am adding some lemon to mine and I have had turmeric tea as well (there's debate around both).

Pebbleinthesand · 30/06/2020 12:42

I've tried water with lemon today and have managed okay. I'm at work today so once I was out of the house I've managed fine to keep from eating until 12.

I went for a run this morning and was surprised by how much energy I had actually.

Does anyone only do it certain days a week? I read something online that suggested women should only do 2-3 days a week.

JamieFrasersSassenach · 01/07/2020 11:53

Hi everyone, I think I haven't posted in a while - am still sticking to 16:8 and finding it really easy now. I am still eating what I want though so no weight loss here!

@Pebbleinthesand - I was a bit like you to start with around water - but, I took the plunge and started drinking my tea black during fasting times - within a few days it tasted just as good as it had with milk so now I drink it black all the time. I also use one of those bottles with the time written on them for how much to drink each hour - that helps as I just have a good long slug of water from that every now and again to make sure I get through it.

The past couple of days I've felt a bit nauseous in the mornings - I'm not sure why - it may just be tiredness (before IF I would simply eat when tired!) - has anyone else experienced this?
