16:8 any success?

iddybiddymum · 15/11/2018 22:17

I've been doing 16:8 Monday - Friday for 2.5 weeks now . I pretty much eat what I like between 12-8 ( not in excess and mostly healthy).

I didn't weigh myself but do feel clothes fit slightly better and feel
A little less tired.

Does anyone have any success stories at all? Would love to hear!

HereIGoAgainAndAgain · 28/01/2019 07:20

Weigh Day today and I've lost 2 lbs Grin

Fingers crossed for a great week for everyone!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 28/01/2019 11:04

Good for you, HereIGo! That's great.
I'm up one pound after a slightly indulgent weekend, but I'm getting back on track now.
Have a good week!

Cocolepew · 28/01/2019 12:40

Well done HereIGo!

giantnannyknickers · 29/01/2019 06:28

Just wanted to give some update on my progress. I haven't weighed myself as I don't trust my scales.

But there is a big difference around my waist.

16:8 any success?
IsFuzzyBeagMise · 29/01/2019 07:30

Trying this after watching a program about a group of diabetics going on different diets to address their diabetes. 5:2 and 16:8 were a couple of them.

Don’t fancy 5:2 as I run and didn’t want to be fasting to that extent on an exercise day.

12-8 or 13-9 suits me much better.
Breakfast was always something I ate because you were supposed to as much as from being hungry.

Only been on it a few days but finding mornings are easy apart from occasionally putting milk in my tea out of sheer habit. The donuts/treats in the office get ignored if it’s not my eating window and are thankfully usually all gone by the time it is.

Prefer eating 2 large meals as it means I don’t have to address portion size - also helps when trying to feed an uber skinny 6’ teen at the same time.

I seem to be coping going without the random snacks late at night which were habit rather than hunger.

I’m careful who I discuss it with after 1 friend thought I was nuts for going on a faddy diet “you can’t maintain it forever” - when actually I think I could.

giantnannyknickers · 30/01/2019 00:24

@Bumply yeah I think it's a way of life! The fasting helps stabilise your blood sugars so you crave less snacks!

I can't wait to see what results the next two months will bring 💪🏼

HereIGoAgainAndAgain · 30/01/2019 07:31

Welcome Bumply I also run and having two meals a day with no snacks still gives me enough energy to do my weekly long runs.

I do eat healthily but there is no portion control or counting calories which I love Smile

HereIGoAgainAndAgain · 30/01/2019 07:32

@giantnannyknickers we all can't wait to see your results in 2 months Smile

Oomph · 30/01/2019 17:54

Hello all, I'm after some help and pointers, because I can't seem to be making much progress.

I've been doing the 16:8 but only seen very slow results. I think part of the problem is that I started in November, then Christmas happened and it all went out the window.

I usually fast from 9pm to 1pm the next day. I do have an americano with a dash of milk for breakfast. Do you think that's ok, in terms of fasting?

I am now combining 16:8 with the blood sugar diet, to speed things up.

To give a bit of background: I am not overweight, (60kg, 162 cm, size 10) but there are 5 kg that I've been carrying for the last 10 years since having children, and I can't seem to be able to shake them off. I've tried 5:2, and lost two kilos on that one which I've put back on since. I exercise 2 to 3 times a week and walk 8k or more most days. I'd say I eat healthily and generally cook from scratch a Mediterranean diet (Greek husband). Despite all that, I find it incredibly hard to shed any weight. I wonder if this is just the weight I'm meant to be as a middle aged woman (47) but if it is, I am not ready to make peace with it yet!

If anybody has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Thank you!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 31/01/2019 10:52

Hi Oomph, I think your eating and exercise routines sound very good. I found the 5:2 more effective in shifting weight than the 16:8 when I did it. Are you eating normal portion sizes?

Oomph · 31/01/2019 12:25

Hi IsFuzzyBeagMise thanks for getting back. At the moment I'm calorie counting for the blood sugar diet, so 800 cals per day, which means small portions unless I'm eating a mound of some raw vegetable.

On a normal basis, yes, I think I probably eat large portions. As in, I'll serve myself a normal portion, then have seconds or eat the children's left overs... I hate waste!

I found the 5:2 effective, but very hard, I have to say. Diet days were incredibly painful, whereas the BSD is one short stretch of pain to reach your goal, then be mindful abut carbs and sugar. Or that's the theory at least!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 31/01/2019 12:39

The same, Oomph. I found the fast days on 5:2 very long. I'm a SAHM, so I'm constantly preparing food for children and I can't switch off from the kitchen.

I read the Blood Sugar Diet recently and was impressed. It certainly seems to work to reverse T2 diabetes. It has encouraged me to cut way down on refined sugars. They really wreak havoc on the body. I am being mindful of carbs. I can't cut them out completely.

It sounds to me like you are doing your best and to give it time. I'm 45 and would like to lose half a stone, but it is a much slower process than years ago if I manage it at all, so I sympathise. Brew with no biscuit (!)

giantnannyknickers · 01/02/2019 06:40

@Oomph could you try 18:6 perhaps? Or another variation on times? Also check out the keto diet to follow during non fast times (if you eat eggs and meat it's not too bad) I'm vego so struggled with that! 60kg would be my ideal weight!

FlamingGoat · 01/02/2019 06:52

Morning all.
I seem to have just stopped losing weight. The lovely 3lbs I lost thanks to the endoscopy has come back. Maybe I need more Moviprep 😂😂😂
At the moment it's just too damn cold ( -5 here) and I've been craving chocolate . I think I'll pretend I'm doing the Chocolate February thing to try and give up .
I am so sick of salads for lunch! I caved yesterday and had a portion of chips with it. Could kick myself really.

HereIGoAgainAndAgain · 01/02/2019 09:21

Its a snow day here, so at least I can't make it to the shops as the desire to eat comforting food is very strong in this weather!!

FlamingGoat when I'm at home I like to have soup with half a tin of butter beans or any beans will do and it is really filling I don't have any bread, you could give that a go.

Supposed to be going out for a meal tonight but I think that's not going to be happening nowSad

Keep warm everyone!!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/02/2019 10:19

Good morning, all 😃 ah, FlamingGoat, it is hard to like salads, in fairness. I have soup with ryevitas, or a stir fry or a small amount of leftovers at lunchtime.

I am down another pound, four pounds altogether in January. The plan for February is three small meals with no snacking in between. No crisps, biscuits or chocolate. Small amounts of homemade cake and a glass of wine occasionally.

HereIGoAgainAndAgain · 01/02/2019 10:40

Well done IsFuzzy that's great, as I think you said you don't have much to lose, so it is much harder ...........February's plan sounds like a good idea Smile, how much more would you like to lose?

Cocolepew · 01/02/2019 11:21

Well done Fuzzy.
I hate, salads, no way would I be eating one in winter!
I have a sandwich, usually egg, and a packet of crisps for my lunch.
I usually have fish at night, either with rice/vegetables or a few chips.
I havent been too good in my eating window for a couple of days so won't weight myself yet Grin

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 01/02/2019 11:25

Thanks HereIGo, well, at the moment I'm 8 stone 10 and I'm 4 ft 11 tall (not very tall Grin). I'd like to get to 8 stone 5. I used to weigh 8 stone before I had children 15 years ago. I'm open-minded about getting to 8 stone but I do feel over weight at the moment for my height.

giantnannyknickers · 01/02/2019 14:34

Well done @IsFuzzyBeagMise that's
Great going!

@FlamingGoat salads are shite! I have roasted veg for lunch (peppers, zucchini, tomato, feta, pesto) it's super filling compared to a big standard salad. Or you could try an omelette perhaps? Soup is a great solution and bulk making it on a Sunday so it's there all week for you to have for lunch.

Cutting out the snacking is key!

It's 40 degrees here tomorrow! Too hot to go outside Confused
