16:8 any success?

iddybiddymum · 15/11/2018 22:17

I've been doing 16:8 Monday - Friday for 2.5 weeks now . I pretty much eat what I like between 12-8 ( not in excess and mostly healthy).

I didn't weigh myself but do feel clothes fit slightly better and feel
A little less tired.

Does anyone have any success stories at all? Would love to hear!

sweetkitty, don't despair - if you only have a few lbs to lose it may be slow.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 03/08/2019 20:49

Great to hear of all your progresses. Me too. Although today we all went out to breakfast and had huge plates of eggs benedict which I wasn’t hungry for... but was greedy for buts fter felt tired and wanting more food and coffee to pick me up. Had an early lunch and this afternoon carb load (I’m doing more exercise at the moment too) but am convinced the lack of breakfast was keeping appetite under control.

I have had some reflux though... maybe all the coffee I’m having on the no breakfast mornings...

Feelingfortyisntfun · 03/08/2019 20:53

Sweet kitty do log. I came home one evening and started eating some low fat cheese then some crab sticks - I devoured the lot and discovered I’d eaten 800 kcal and I was ready for my evening meal! I’m sure sure you’re not as silly as me but worth noting. Also I find with gaining weight, if I have a week of overeating I don’t see the weight gain until 1 week after so maybe your weight loss may be similar in terms of when you’ll see results. Marathon not sprint is always helpful to keep in mind.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 08/08/2019 08:12

16:8 still working best for me. Down a few pounds and maintained despite a few overeating days! Today had an unhealthy breakfast and already 600 kcal in and it’s not 8:15 yet!

Magnificentbeast · 12/08/2019 14:52

Sorry if this has been asked already.

Do you have to do the fast every day or could you do 16:8 a couple of times a week, for example, and still see results?

CarrotPuff · 12/08/2019 19:12

I don't think you'd get much benefit from just a couple times a week.

Somberbird · 04/11/2019 03:08

Just started 16:8 fasting Oct. 28. So far so good. Not as hard as I thought. Im having a plant based protein shake at 11 snack the veggies and protein for dinner.

crazyhead · 06/11/2019 11:20

To magnificent beast - I’ve done 3-4 days a week for the last six weeks and I’ve lost about 5lbs. So I guess it depends what you are doing outside those fasts - I do exercise and try to eat healthily in the week. Works for me and my social life. I am in my 40s and I have about 7lb to lose so I favour a slow approach I can stick with at goal

Somberbird · 06/11/2019 11:54

My first week in. Worked out 5 days. Didnt eat any junk. Followed simular to keto. Lost 11 pounds. Doing 16:8 fasting daily.

Changednamealready · 07/11/2019 07:26

I’ve fallen off the wagon again recently as 6am starts and the only thought of facing the day is creamy coffees and breakfast.

I can’t explain why but 16:8 does work for me. For some reason holding off breakfast until midday works. I think it gives me the freedoms to actually eat what I like (within reason). So that huge cheese baguette or egg sandwich with some fruit yoghurt and square of chocolate or pizza for dinner is fine... even if I had 1000 kcal for two meals it’s not excessive (for me). It’s producing such a healthier relationship with food. It also appears to be causing very slow long term loss. So even with days of eating for England, yes I gained a few but ultimately have lost more than when I started.

As I said though it’s been v challenging with the cold winters mornings and being tired. I’m going to have to think about how I handle this as breakfast has become a comfort again.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 28/12/2019 07:25

I have just joined the FB group for IF 16:8
It is a wealth of information.

I have done 5:2 in the past and lost weight, but I find it too restrictive.
16:8 seems more in tune with my way of eating, as I’m never hungry for breakfast. I think I’m going to go for an 11am to 7pm window; so that I’m not digesting too late at night...

Changednamealready · 29/12/2019 13:54

Great work Curley. 16:8 combined with exercise and eating lots of high fibre foods is really helping with consistent weight loss. I became a bit disheartened with a few weeks of work stress, hormones lack of sleep and illness - not good combinations but amazingly going back to the 16:8 my weight has returned to my original weigh loss weight and back on track again!

Some days I am so hungry in the am and then I’ll have some breakfast but most morning a black coffee does the job or a skinny cappuccino and that’s it.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/12/2019 21:27

I’ve lost 7lbs since Christmas Day.
Bearing in mind I felt like a stuffed turkey, I think that’s all the gluttony being burnt off.
Now I will have to be more disciplined.
I’ve been eating about 1pm, and basically what I want, but I’ve been listening to my body so have eaten nutrient rich food, porridge, avocados, salmon, houmous, spinach. I just can’t bear the thought of meat at the moment.

Changednamealready · 30/12/2019 23:09

7 lbs since Christmas Day - great result!

Are you still starting at 11 am?

ploughingthrough · 07/01/2020 03:34

Hello! tentatively joining my first ever weight loss thread. I've no longer got any excuses not to shift the extra stone or so I've been carrying around since birth of 2nd DC 4 and a half years ago. I've never been disciplined enough to do this before and now is the time. I started 16:8 eight days ago with an eating window of 12-8 - two big meals and no snacks other than cups of tea in between. I have also added two 40 minute gym sessions to my routine and I hope to increase this a little. My starting weight was 75.5kg at 5ft 6 which makes my BMI 26.7. I weighed myself today for the first time since starting and I am 73.8 kg so delighted to have made a positive start. I'll be honest, I feel very hungry a lot of the day but I'm getting used to it.
My goal weight is 68kg to start with just to get back into that healthy range .

Changednamealready · 07/01/2020 21:40

Hi!

Well done 8 days is a great start. It took me a awhile to get over morning hunger and coffee helps! Keep the fluids up during the morning too. I find sipping warm water (I get it, not everyone’s bag) or a hot drink helps curb the hunger.

I actually lost weight whilst not massive controlling what I ate just when.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Dub2019 · 08/01/2020 23:06

Hi all, I am looking at trying this but I have read some articles that it can affect fertility. As the thread is over a year old, has anyone gotten pregnant after intermittent fasting?

SleepyRoo · 13/01/2020 18:51

I'm 9 days into this and it's easy enough.

One major drawback- my digestion. I'm really constipated (sorry), despite lots of water and veg. Also occasional stomach pain after the first meal around 12.30pm.

Anyone else experience this? Or have any tips?

I don't want to have to give up...

Jazzmin · 14/01/2020 20:46

I had stomach ache a few times after my first meal of the day at 12.30. Been doing 16-8 for about a month now, excluding Christmas week. I’ve lost about 5lbs ( probably put on 5lbs at Christmas which has come off again quickly too.)
Haven’t had any stomach problems the last 2 weeks, must be getting used to it. My weight loss has a lot to do with not drinking wine in the evenings, I have nothing but tea after 8.30pm!

sammiches79 · 21/01/2020 14:09

I've been doing 16:8 since the start of Dec and lost 11lbs so far. The most I've ever lost and managed to stick with for longest.

Dustarr73 · 21/01/2020 19:46

I started this last week.
Im doing 12 to 8
I am lashing back the water, walking a bit.
And i made a chicken traybake for teh week.

So i have my lunch made for everyday this week.I will just have different things on it.

I did slip today, had some crisps but im actually enjoying the food im eating.I definately feel lighter but i havent weighed myself.

Going to do that tomorrow.

Eesha · 22/01/2020 22:51

Hello, may I join? I was on a heartbreak diet which led me to 16:8, so previously was just eating one giant meal a day about 9pm (crazy I know) and have now moved inadvertently to eating with my children over a 12 to 7 pattern and sleeping early with them. Im really hoping this shows on the scales, I'm 5ft 6 and weigh approx 89kg so a stone or so to lose I think!

ploughingthrough · 23/01/2020 09:24

I've got from 75.5kg to 70.7kg since 28th December. It took a couple of weeks but I'm now used to not eating breakfast and waiting until 12.15 (work lunch time) to eat. I try to stick to the 2 meals per day but if I feel very hungry I will eat some watermelon in between. I feel like I've cut a lot of food out my diet (I was a snacker and I would also hoover kids leftovers) so hope to continue to see slow and steady loss. I would like to be 67kg to be comfortably within my BMI. I would also like to look slimmer - I feel like I look the same!!

Dustarr73 · 27/01/2020 21:40

New week,any news

SleepyRoo · 27/01/2020 22:20

I'm flatlining. Am trying to eat less fat / carbs during the eating window. Hope it works!
