16:8 any success?

iddybiddymum · 15/11/2018 22:17

I've been doing 16:8 Monday - Friday for 2.5 weeks now . I pretty much eat what I like between 12-8 ( not in excess and mostly healthy).

I didn't weigh myself but do feel clothes fit slightly better and feel
A little less tired.

Does anyone have any success stories at all? Would love to hear!

Im having a very hungry day today.I had breakfast so im trying to hold off till 3 for dinner and then nothing till tomorrow.

Pelobates · 28/01/2020 13:37

How long did it take you to find what worked for you?

I started having a bigger breakfast at 11 am and then leaving it at least 4 hrs until I ate again...after that it became a bit blurred. I haven't managed to stop eating by 7 pm yet (although I have managed to get calories in check) and evening exercise classes at different times also mess with it.

I've now decided that I cope much better with fasting in the morning than the evening so today I waited until 12.30 pm for breakfast and added some extra fat (walnuts) to it. Tomorrow I hope to move it to 13.30 (I need to do this or keep it at 11 am due to work most days really).

I would also like to try TMAD (Two meals a day) but feel I will need several more tweaks to get there...I'm also trying to do this whilst eating WFPB (whole foods plant based) 90+% of the time so definitely not low carbing.

Keep yo-yoing from feeling from feeling empowered by this to feeling like I haven't got a clue what I'm doing!

Dustarr73 · 28/01/2020 15:01

I find the 2 meals a day work for me[apart from today]
I usually find it easier to not eat till lunchtime. Then have dinner at 5 has been working for me.

But today for some reason, feels like i have a big gaping hole in my stomach. And every ad is for food.

Pelobates · 28/01/2020 15:55

Thanks @Dustarr73

Some days are way more hungry than others! Are you watching your calories at all? I'm aiming for around 1300 on an average day but keeping it flexible enough to up that as required on hungrier days. My breakfast was approx 550/600 kcals so dinner should be 700/750 kcals. I'll make an attempt to do this today...again...hoping the later breakfast and added walnuts will make the difference.

Dustarr73 · 28/01/2020 16:09

@Pelobates Yes im logging it all with my fitness pal.keeps it in check. And makes you realise how many hidden calories there are.

Pelobates · 28/01/2020 20:08

I’m using MFP too @Dustarr73 - yes, the calories add up really quickly...no wonder I put so much weight on!

So far so good! Easily managed to wait until gone 7 pm to eat today (wonder if 100 kcals of walnuts really made that much difference?).

ploughingthrough · 31/01/2020 23:14

Starting Feb 6kg lighter than the first day of January so really pleased with how 16:8 has worked for me so far. I have 2 meals per day , if I'm hungry in between I eat a few chunks of watermelon and I have gone zero on the booze. Although I don't feel that hungry in the mornings I am really missing breakfast. I absolutely love it it's my favourite meal but I can't deny skipping it is working for me. It's important to me that I eat dinner with DH and kids so can't skip that one. Onwards for February with 16:8 but pining for breakfast!

Hannahlouise4026 · 01/02/2020 19:19

Joining this thread as I’m planning to start on Monday. My weight is out of control and I need to tackle it this year. I’ve around 6/7 stone to lose to get back to my pre children weight, which makes me really angry that I’ve let myself get to this stage but determined to change for my children’s sake. I’m a terrible binge eater, I feel having some structure to my day will help with that. I’m planning to do 12-8 (as sometimes I eat after putting the kids to bed) I don’t think I will miss breakfast as I’m usually rushing around so much with the school run and my youngest but I will definitely miss my mid morning coffee and elevenses 🙈

Zebracat · 02/02/2020 23:48

Hi. May I join you? I will weigh myself tomorrow, just completed my second week. My window is 10 until 6 pm. I think it makes sense to cut out breakfast, but I can’t, I get nauseous, so I have a sachet of porridge at 10, lunch at 1; and dinner at 5.30. I lost 3 kilos the first week, and yes I know that’s a lot, but I am pretty fat, starting weight of 106.5 kegs.. I feel ok. I’ve had a dreadful cold this week and that may have helped, too ill to get snacks!, although I have been eating mini twisters medicinally.
I should lose 35 kegs to get to a heathy BMI , but 25 brings me to the same weight as Dh and that would feel amazing, it’s about 4 stone.
I have some weight related health problems and that is my major motivation, but it would also be great to not be fat.

JustaScratch · 11/02/2020 13:52

I'm in as well! Just started yesterday. I'm not sure exactly how much I weigh as batteries on scales have run out but think it's around 15st something and I should be 12.7-13 (I'm 6ft). My clothes are too tight which is my main issue right now!

Fasting 8pm until noon and quite enjoying it so far. I really struggle with wanting to snack around 5pm but I am not a big breakfaster so I'm hoping this approach will make the most of my natural tendencies.

Would LOVE to be fitting more comfortably in some of my lovely neglected summer dresses. Here goes!

ploughingthrough · 15/02/2020 22:52

How is it going new joiners? Hope you are starting to see some progress if you started at the beginning of Feb.
I've gone from 11st 12 to 10 stone 8 using this method (and not cutting carbs) so really pleased with it so far. Seems largely sustainable . I think ditching the booze has helped top although I did have a glass this weekend for the first time since starting

BetteDavisthighs · 17/02/2020 04:07

May I please join in? I could do with the motivation. I am 48 and peri-menopausal, and finding it really hard to shed the muffin top.

I started 16: 8 on January 1st. began at 75.5 kg ( the heaviest I have ever been) and am now at 72.4 kg (sorry don't think in stones) I am pleased with the initial weight loss, but have now plateaued.I also tend to yo yo quite a bit. On the plus side, I seem to have lost a lot of visible weight off my tummy.

I walk 4-5 times a week for 45 minutes. Trying to walk daily, and longer. My eating window is 12 to 8. I was very used to eating breakfast, so feel quite famished by 10 or so. Drink coffee and if I really can't stand it, eat a few nuts. No sugar which is v easy for me, as I have no sweet tooth. What's really hard is to eat low carb as I am mostly vegetarian.

BetteDavisthighs · 17/02/2020 04:08

Oh, and my goal weight is about 68 kg. I am 5"7. I was 50 kg when I got married, but I don't think that is achievable any more, post two kids.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 18/02/2020 16:53

@BetteDavisthighs congrats on the loss so far! I think if you can stick to the fast and not break it at all until 12pm you'll see better results. As far as I understand it, it's the effect that the fasting has on our bodies that brings about weight loss. You might think that a few nuts at 10am is nothing, but it is in effect breaking your fast and so you're losing out on the benefits of fasting. Hope that makes sense? If you could distract yourself and push on through so you've had the full 16 hour of real fasting, I think you'd see the results. Or you could move the times to start at 10am and finish by 6pm?

I find the actual fasting part ok, it's the 'eating hours' I struggle with!! I need to curtail the snacking... but even so I've found that sticking religiously to the 16 hour fast window has been successful for me.

Parsley65 · 24/02/2020 14:10

Another newbie, though I have been doing this (my version!) since September.
I have been a yo-yo dieter all my adult life, but this is actually working for me and I have lost over 2 stone, with about 10 pounds left to go.

I had a bit of a health scare in the summer and it made me realise I needed to get a grip. I also have a family member with MH problems and dealing with that was causing me to comfort eat.

My routine is to do a zero calorie fast on Monday, then two meals in the 16/8 window for the next three days. Weekends I allow myself some treats like breakfast (one slice of toast with Marmite, instead of two), wine and pud/chocolate.

If you're just starting out I can promise that if I can do this, then you can too. You just have to be determined and to find what suits your routine/lifestyle.

Good luck today Thanks

TattieSconeRoll · 24/02/2020 17:18

Another new starter here Smile I have a week off work so figure this is the best time to start. I've had two meals today and a low fat yoghurt, not calorie counting but hoping if I stick to this then I will naturally consume fewer calories. I have a terrible relationship with food (binge eating, no fruit/water and too much alcohol) so at the very least I should see some health benefits even if I don't lose weight. Hope everybody is doing well today!

fromnowhere · 24/02/2020 18:22

Hi all, may I join you? Just started today, aiming to do 11-7 every day as i am not too hungry first thing but will struggle to wait til any later than 11 to eat.

I had some success last year with fast 800, but I couldn't maintain the calorie restriction, even 5:2 I would struggle with as too restrictive on the fast days. I'm pescetarian so also find low carb v difficult and am a bit of a binge eater Blush.

Anyway I'm 5'6 and knocking on 13 stones so have at least 2 stone to lose by my reckoning. I really hope this is a long term solution as I am totally fed up with myself and I'm nearly 40 so I don't want to be thinking about weight loss for the rest of my life!

SleepyRoo · 25/02/2020 08:45

Ugh plateauing again...
It seems as if I have to eat really very little during the 8 hours to make any progress... less than 1500 cal (and I do an hour's exercise most days, or am generally moving a lot).
The weird thing is, I do feel slimmer - my clothes fit better - even while the scales don't seem to reflect all the effort.

TattieSconeRoll · 25/02/2020 13:33

I have this fear @SleepyRoo. I'm not counting calories atm, going to see if I've lost anything after a week then re-assess if needed. I'm doing two large meals to keep me full and a small snack (less than 150cals) if I really need it. What are you currently eating on an average day? I weigh 10st 11lb and I think on 1500 cals a day I would struggle to lose, especially if you factor in all those extra little calories you forget about over a week 🙈

SleepyRoo · 25/02/2020 14:15

@TattieSconeRoll I'm eating miso soup and small sandwich for lunch. Couple pieces of fruit. Small bag of popcorn. One white coffee. Regular type of dinner (chicken curry or fish pie etc) but a smaller portion than usual & no seconds. A whisky or vodka (no wine). Then nothing between 9pm-1pm except hot water/ black coffee.
Cardio 4 x per week.
I'm concerned it's my age (early forties). Metabolism just won't budge or whatever.

fromnowhere · 25/02/2020 21:27

Just a question SleepyRoo do you think having your eating window finishing at 9pm has an impact? I have set my window as 11-7 just because I know that eating close to bedtime is not good for my digestion. Could it be that?
Does anyone else have any input re: the relative success of different eating window times? Interested for myself as well.

SleepyRoo · 26/02/2020 10:16

@fromnowhere - I don't know. I don't see why... (is there a proven link between comfortable digestion and weight loss?) - but it's also impossible for me to finish my meal earlier than that - gotta get back from work, kids to bed, then cook from scratch (healthier). I'm sometimes done eating by 8.30pm. But 7pm would be impractical as a cut-off, personally. And what I like about this diet is that it does "fit in" to a normal-looking life.
I'm going to try to reduce the amount of fat I eat - according to MFP I'm overshooting on that score.

Changednamealready · 26/02/2020 16:03

I’m a lurker here reading posts wanted to jump on Sleepyroo I’m over 40 too but 16:8 did work for me but took time. I went crazy over Christmas and regained but had 6 months of sustainable loss without feeling deprived and prior to that I thought I was doomed as once I hit 40 my appetite seemed higher and I wasn’t able to lose that weight like I used to be able to. 16:8 did work though.

The way that worked for me was “delayed brekkie” I personally love bread so I actually had my favourite sandwich for lunch each day so didn’t feel deprived then second meal was also something I enjoyed. I started dropping veg though which was silly and as I said went off track but getting back on it.

Appreciate we are all different but I had tried everything post 40. I like huge portions too and can binge but this lessened the bingeing dramatically. It actually made me develop a really healthy relationship with food.

fromnowhere · 26/02/2020 16:33

Fair enough SleepyRoo I struggle not to eat in the evenings after 7 but also v hungry in the mornings so it's tough whatever you do! Grin
I'm hungry a lot still (on day 3) does that go away? I'm hoping so if I am to have any chance if sustaining this long term!

Dd20 · 28/02/2020 10:41

Hi everyone just starting my journey with 16:8 lifestyle 5 days in . First few days I was irritable that seems to have subsided ...anyone else have the same experience?... working well with 1 to 9 eating period even though up at 6.30 ... I really can't believe how I am managing not to eat in the fast time period ... I'm trying to keep my carbs limited to 100 per day which is keeping me at around 1300 calories per day with my treat . My starting weight is 16stone 6lbs and would be extremely happy to lose 4 stone and feel healthier.... I'm sending out the positive vibes and wishing you all success in your journey's whatever they may be 😃
