16:8 any success?

iddybiddymum · 15/11/2018 22:17

I've been doing 16:8 Monday - Friday for 2.5 weeks now . I pretty much eat what I like between 12-8 ( not in excess and mostly healthy).

I didn't weigh myself but do feel clothes fit slightly better and feel
A little less tired.

Does anyone have any success stories at all? Would love to hear!

I've been doing 16:8 for 3 weeks now, and lost 12 lbs in the first two weeks but since then, I've stayed exactly the same. Feeling a bit disheartened, even though I think my body has just gone whoa what's happening.

Have others had this?

piscis · 11/07/2019 16:15

It is working for me, I've lost a stone and a half. I don't even do it on weekends. I try to eat low carb though, but maybe a couple of times a week I'll eat some pasta or rice. I do not eat sugar though, sugar only in special occasions (I think I have had sugar 4 or 5 times in the last 5 months)
I eat two meals a day, my lunch around 1:30pm and then dinner at around 19:30, these are the times that work for me. I follow a LCHF (Low carb, high fat) approach, no snacking in between to allow insulin levels to drop. Checkout Jason Fung in Youtube or check the reviews on his book in Amazon (The Obesity Code). It doesn't matter you are not obese, I was not obese either but that man has changed my life!

12 lbs in 2 weeks is really impressive! Your body is probably adjusting to it all. Keep going, you'll start losing again. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

flowerpower18 · 15/07/2019 12:44

I've been doing low carb and 16:8 for 4 weeks and have lost 6lbs. I know it doesn't sound a lot but its the most consistent weight loss I've had in years!

I try and stick to less than 100g of carbs Mon - Fri but I'm having less than 50g most days and although I aim for a 16hr fast I tend to do more like 18-22hrs.

Its working for me at the moment.

INeedToGetHealthy · 20/07/2019 22:45

I gained 2lbs this week but I'm not too worried as by some fluke, I lost 4lb last week. That brings me to 1 stone lost so far in 8 weeks. I have a long way to go yet to get into a healthy weight range for my height but doing IF is the only thing that has helped apart from the Reductil tablets I was prescribed nearly 10 years ago. The tablets license was withdrawn shortly after I stopped taking them 🤬

BelindasGleeTeam · 21/07/2019 18:37

Started this yesterday. Friend had lost s lot of weight easily on this plan and it seems very doable as no counting, weighing and banning.

My downfall is sugar and snacks. Fasting window has cut my evening munchies out and having tracked food for 2 days I'm eating too many carbs and not enough protein.

Utterly disgusted at my weight: I have about 2.5 stone to lose to hit my ideal weight.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 22/07/2019 07:31

I am back on track after lots of moaning on these boards. 16:8 seems to be helping me get back on the road as it were.

Despite having a day of overeating l(>2000 kcal) last week amazingly have lost a pound and appetite back under control with skipping breakfast. Two espressos down ....

Feelingfortyisntfun · 22/07/2019 07:32

ps piscis I watched the Jason Fung and am now lowering the carbs too to see if this helps with that rebound appetite I seem to get after losing any amount of weight and that has plagued me since turning 40.

PeoniesarePink · 23/07/2019 13:25

I'm now down 18 lbs in 5 weeks!! So pleased and can truthfully say it's been no sacrifice. I've got really good skin, am sleeping well and have so much more energy. I'm so chuffed to have tried this way of eating, it really works for me.

The whole black and white of "you can't eat now, it's over your 8 hours" seems to have really changed my eating habits.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 23/07/2019 18:51

Great news Peonie - have you changed what you're eating too?

PeoniesarePink · 23/07/2019 20:04

Moderately changed things, I'd say. I try to watch carb content but have just cut out eating in between meals in the main.

Constance1234 · 23/07/2019 20:33

I’ve been doing 16:8 for a month now. I didn’t weigh myself in all that time and was so pleased to weigh myself this morning and have lost over a stone! I think it’s the combination of not snacking with a glass of wine in the evening, and eliminating white carbs. I would recommend this way of eating to everyone! :)

Kenworthington · 24/07/2019 16:15

Hi can I join please? Dh started doing 16/8 about 3 weeks ago and it was falling off him and he kept processing how easy he was finishing it. This is a man who had never struggled with his weight unlike me .🙄
Anyway I’ve done a week and a half of it, I’ve found it quite easy remarkably and am already done from 14st 7 to 13st 11! I cannot believe it. I’ve struggled with diets for years. Nothing EVER works for me. And this is and it’s so easy! I’m finding my appetite has reduced too and I’m eating smaller portions.

BelindasGleeTeam · 24/07/2019 22:40

Yup, 5lb in 4 days here. Gobsmacked. And it's so.....easy!

I might actually get thin at this rate

prettygreenteacup · 26/07/2019 06:16

Hi can I join in? Started 16:8 this week and really hoping for some results on it! I feel like it may be a way of eating I can actually sustain rather than giving up on everything else. I only have a few pounds to lose but hate banning foods and restricting myself. Eating good meals obviously and trying not to snack in between. I'm eating 12pm-8pm. Although today am attempting 1pm-9pm as I'm out for dinner tonight!

user87382294757 · 28/07/2019 08:17

Anyone else find it helps with constant grazing / bingeing? Yesterday I had just an egg first thing which led to more eating...(instead of waiting till noon ) decided to have this egg for protein after reading something) anyway..the eating just makes my hungry I have decided.

Not finding things too easy in the summer holidays as always preparing food for the kids- morning porridge etc- it is easier when you are not always surrounded by food and meal prep and more free to just get on with other stuff. On the other hand it is maybe easier than say calorie counting and faffing with that.

I now just have say an apple if by 11am ish really hungry - it seems filling and not cause the need to eat more. I guess we learn about ourselves doing this. I do think I am maybe drinking too much coffee during my fasting times, need to mix in with some caffeine free options as well.

I have also stopped drinking along with 16:8 as booze just made me ate more in the evenings. Feeling better for that.

prettygreenteacup · 28/07/2019 13:43

Yes I find the same. I'm finding not eating until 12pm I then feel way more satisfied after I do eat and far less tempted to snack in between meals!

Feelingfortyisntfun · 28/07/2019 14:54

user8 I think it really helps with me stopping the constant snacking/overeating. It's not a cure all but appears to be helping considerably.

I really understand what you mean about holidays/time with kids and constantly prepping food (I get they're growing but geesh they eat (yet stay skinny)). I have brought things like ice cream (I don't like ice cream) to offer as a snack between meals on active days then brought some cook kids meals and boil up a pile of veggies to have with it (I won't eat theirs) for the evenings when I'm working during the day. Other nights I try and do a proper meal pasta, fish veggies and it's hard to snack on that! Sandwiches/wraps are fatal (bread is the hardest to resist for me) I've frozen the bread and taking a portion our each day for kids. All my worse eating days are when I'm at home and tired.

Like you even the smallest breakfast seems to open up the feed me monster.

I'm also reliant on coffee and apples - how funny.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 28/07/2019 14:56

ps Despite having some days way overeating bingeing I've lost 2-3 lbs in the past few weeks. That's without really trying, just skipping the breakfast. It makes sense though, I was totting up what I had on a breakfast day - milk in coffees, porridge or toast and avocado, mid morning snack, I've generally eaten over 500 + kcal by 12.00 on a breakfast day!

user87382294757 · 28/07/2019 16:15

Sounds like me Forty I basically really like eating and food - so maybe I just need to do this...or I would just eat all day!

We are going away this week which will be hard as all eating other etc so might just take a break for a week and then get back to it. Trying just not to be too OTT and strict as you way even with some ups and downs it works out overall...I read somewhere about doing something 80/20 so for most of the time but not always...and that is fine.

Oh, also sometime if I really fancy say porridge or a breakfast thing I just have that for 'lunch' instead. It will be much easier I reckon when DC back at school and in more of a routine, and they have their lunch at school etc. Easier.

Constance1234 · 29/07/2019 17:34

I agree, not having breakfast has made a world of difference - if I have breakfast I just want to keep grazing and snacking until lunch! I really like the black and white nature of this way of eating - once your 8 hours is up no more eating, no ifs or buts :)

user87382294757 · 29/07/2019 18:21

Also it is not too restrictive- you can always think if you want something- well I can have it later.

sweetkitty · 30/07/2019 21:43

Hi can I join you all
Day 4 for me, got 10lbs to lose so not a great deal but I’m always trying to lose it, I’m vegan as well so need to make sure I’m getting enough protein.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 01/08/2019 18:17

I'm joining in too - have been IFing almost daily now since moving on from 5:2 a few weeks ago.

I tend to start the day assuming I'll do 16:8 (I use the Zero app) but more often than not I end up stretching that a bit longer as I rarely get a lunchbreak at work, so by the time I get to about 3pm and haven't eaten it seems daft not to just wait for dinner! Having said that I never 'push' myself further than feels comfortable and will always break a longer fast if I am genuinely hungry. I also tend to have a bigger eating window at the weekends!

The amazing thing is realising that 'genuine hunger' is quite a rare thing - and that it actually feels good to be giving my body frequent, prolonged rests from digesting food. My blood sugars used to be all over the place and I would get shaky, dizzy and irritable if I didn't eat regularly - thank god all that is a thing of the past now.

I try to eat low-ish carb when possible but I don't beat myself up too much if I stray, although my sweet tooth has drastically reduced and chocolate no longer has the hold over me it once did.

I have lost 10lbs-ish over the last couple of months, although I did have a bit of a stall for a fortnight, after which four pounds just disappeared overnight - I think that's the whoosh effect! II think it'll slow down a bit now - I'd ideally like to lose another stone at least before my wedding next summer and feel pretty confident that IF is the way to do it.

I love the flexibility of it, too. Eat, or don't eat. Easy!

sweetkitty · 03/08/2019 10:08

First week done and I haven’t lost a thing Sad
I only ate breakfast once, haven’t eaten my usual junk this week either. I’m going to log everything on the Fitbit this week coming and see what I’m actually eating!
