16:8 any success?

iddybiddymum · 15/11/2018 22:17

I've been doing 16:8 Monday - Friday for 2.5 weeks now . I pretty much eat what I like between 12-8 ( not in excess and mostly healthy).

I didn't weigh myself but do feel clothes fit slightly better and feel
A little less tired.

Does anyone have any success stories at all? Would love to hear!

I’m actually really enjoying it. I’m limiting what I eat in my 8 hour window as I have a lot to lose and a hernia and an ulcer to deal with. Oh and a holiday in three weeks!

delilahbucket · 22/03/2019 07:47

I inadvertently started this in January without realising it was a thing! My blood sugars have really stabilised, and I have lost 7lbs with no effort, although I do have light lunches. I now find my body goes from not hungry to famished at the time it is expecting food (12pm for me). If ever I have breakfast I find that I get a bad mid afternoon slump that a fruit tea won't solve and I have to eat, regardless of what I have for lunch. I've definitely come to prefer this way of eating and I think it suits my body better.

UrsulaPandress · 22/03/2019 09:07

I agree. I used to do it sort of naturally as I had two horses to 'do' in a morning followed by walking the dog before I got home and had something to eat so that would often be 11.30 ish. Now things have changed so I have to be more conscious. I do feel better for it.

Hi everyone, I'm back fell off the wagon a while ago but now ready to get back on!
I've decided my trigger might be sugar so in my 8 hour window I will be following the no sugar no snacking and no seconds rules to stop the binges that I have suffered with for years and are constantly sabotaging any weight loss I manage.

Good luck everyone!

RekhaSharda · 29/03/2019 21:33

I have lost half a stone doing 16:8 restricted time eating
And feel much lighter
I tend to do it from 10 to 6 and after that it’s just water

giantnannyknickers · 05/04/2019 10:31

I'm totally after falling off the wagon. A lot of stress at the moment!!

How's everyone going?

Well done girls with the recent weight loss that's fab!!! How do he keep motivated?

edgeofheaven · 29/05/2019 06:30

I've been at this for two weeks now and my weight hasn't shifted at all. I'm eating quite a bit less - although I'm not calorie counting during the window I'm only having two fairly healthy meals. Does it take a long time to show any progress? I'm active as well so not sure why this isn't having an impact.

Pipadee · 29/05/2019 22:31

@ SallyWD This sounds great, doable and seems like it works. I would like to lose 1 and a half stones. I will start this diet tomorrow. I think i'll do a 10am - 6pm window and take my breakfast to work. Perhaps i'll start the day with a coffee to suppress my appetite like you have. How long have you been doing it and how much have you lost?
Thanks

Pipadee · 29/05/2019 22:42

@SallyDW Sorry just sent you a message but thing the @SallyDW bit went wrong so not sure if you got it? Please see message written above. Thanks

I started doing the 16:8 fasting last weds and I weighed myself yesterday morning. I was very surprised to have actually lost some weight due to having PCOS and an underactive thyroid. I actually lost 6 1/2 lbs. This seemed like a good option for me as the PCOS causes insulin resistance for me and I just hated paying for Weight Watchers or Slimming World, following it as I should be, exercising most days and still not losing anything.
A friend recommended the audiobook 'the obesity code' by Dr Jason Fung and it makes a lot of sense. Before I looked at intermittent fasting as just another fad diet but I have realised that it is not.
So I'm here for the long run as I have a LOT of weight to lose.

giantnannyknickers · 01/06/2019 04:58

@INeedToGetHealthy that's brilliant! I need to get back on the band wagon. My biggest downfall is milk in my coffee in the mornings

carrottopper · 04/06/2019 00:01

Am I right in thinking you can eat pretty much what you want in the time frame? I'm trying to eat sensibly. I did 1-9 today. Had nothing for breakfast, salad and salmon for lunch and pasta for tea. Felt absolutely famished at 6 and ate a chocolate bar and some biscuits!!!

I'm really missing my morning porridge. Would I be better having that at lunch instead of salad tomorrow? I'll start at 1;30 tomorrow.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/06/2019 13:58

I've been doing this for a few weeks. To begin with I thought it was just skipping breakfast, but then I realised it would theoretically mean not having a cup of tea in the morning or evening and that's shit. I don't like black tea and herbal is pretty boring so I haven't been sticking to it properly.
I lost some weight the first few weeks, but I think that after that I just adjusted to not having breakfast and eat more at my other meals. No calorie deficit has meant no weight loss. What a surprise!
I'm still doing it halfheartedly (eating a double decker as I type!) but not expecting too much from it.

Another negative for me is my digestion. I found that breakfast got things going so to speak and that has been problematic.

The biggest plus is being able to eat more or less normal food, not having to look for salads all the time.

teta · 16/06/2019 13:13

I started this last year in conjunction with Michael Mosley's mediterranean diet. I lost a stone and a half over spring/summer and then winter arrived. I carried on the 16/8 over winter without calorie restriction ( plus added in hrt) and out all the weight back on. I think I put on a lot of weight in the first month of Hrt. So I'm not sure it will help on its own without calorie restriction .

PeoniesarePink · 25/06/2019 10:30

I started 16 8 last Tuesday, after putting on around a stone and getting a lecture from the diabetic nurse. So I'm trying this to make me more mindful of what I'm putting in my mouth. It's been really easy to follow so far........ hope that's not tempting fate.

I've lost 8lbs in a week, and have really watched my carb intake. I'm finding 8.30am to 4.30pm seems to be working well and I've tried to walk the dogs a bit further every day. I find not eating in the evening has massively cut my calorie intake! I was a bugger for eating cheese and biscuits or packets of crisps. I'm just worried that this week will be zero loss as my body tends to normally do, then I get fed up and fall off the wagon........

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 25/06/2019 18:45

I've found it has definitely helped with less snacking time!

I've also started to go to bed at a decent time and feel more rested as a result.

user87382294757 · 02/07/2019 17:06

Following. Finding this OK and lost half a stone.

Rassy · 02/07/2019 17:35

Are most people doing this every day? I run three mornings a week and need to have a light breakfast on those mornings. How do others manage this?

user87382294757 · 02/07/2019 18:18

I go swim of an aerobics class most morning and find can mostly do so fasted- in fact and tummy rumbles seem to go, when I do. Drinking water or carrying an apple for emergency hunger or nuts helps me.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 04/07/2019 07:17

I consistently find skipping breakfast makes me eat less overall during the day.

Cherry111 · 05/07/2019 09:27

Hi, I've just started the low carb way of eating plus fasting between 7pm - 11am. Only on day 2 lol but thought I would really struggle not eating until 11 as you are always told "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" etc. I've just been having coffee and water and already planning my meal at 11, mushrooms, bacon and eggs! I made a turkey mince taco bowl in lettuce with sour cream and cheese and salsa last night and it was amazing! I have about 3 stone to lose and have never been able to really lose it and totally fed up. Going to Ibiza for my 40th next year and determined to feel the best I can!

user87382294757 · 05/07/2019 14:48

I consistently find skipping breakfast makes me eat less overall during the day.

Me too, which is odd as i would have thought it would have made me more hungry. Yesterday I decided to try having breakfast and just seeing what happened- a low carb one as well - but was more hungry and ate loads later as well. Back to normal today. I'm a bit of a binge eater especially with sugar and this is helping me with that.

user87382294757 · 05/07/2019 14:49

It is nice eating more on the meals when there are less of them isn't it Cherry I also find it easier planning for say two meals rather than 3 small ones, and less of a hassle. It's just a change in habit really.

CarrotPuff · 07/07/2019 10:18

Can I join please? I've always kind of done this, and I've done 5:2 quite successfully in the past, but never grew to actually enjoy it. 16:8 is far more effortless, and I've lost 9 lbs this year so far. I need to lose another 1.5-2st though. So it's been quite slow, but when you don't feel like you're on a diet, it's really good.

Feelingfortyisntfun · 08/07/2019 09:29

This is a terrible confession I really binged this am as soon as I started eating I wanted more, working from home and started early.

Really frustrated... think I need to go back to 16:8... it works...
