Hi all - popping in after having been away from thread several weeks.
Maintenance has been going pretty well. I've stopped counting & tracking cals/carbs, but trying my best to stick to the general framework on BSD eating: lower carb fruits, no potatoes or similar, no bread, no rice, no crisps, no beer, no added sugar, only portion-controlled pulses and pulse/bean stuff such as hummus, lentils, etc etc. I have been bobbing around the same weight now for about a month I think with very little effort. A pound or two up sometimes, then a pound or two down, but generally hovering around the same number.
I have had more wine than I should, but cut it with fizzy water when I can (expensive red wine as is, as fizzy water in it would be a waste and an abomination!). I still eat a lot more dark chocolate than I should, but I consider it medicinal. And I have a bit of ice cream a few times a week, but do my best to have it only in portion-controlled amounts. And I really don't feel deprived at all. This may be more challenging as we get into the season of baked treats everywhere, but so far so good.
Exercise has been more of an issue - I'm not going to the gym as regularly as I was, as work has been awful, but I am definitely walking more. I'm also delighting in things like not getting out of breath on the stairs, when younger and slimmer colleagues do. And went to a concert the other night and danced for hours with no knee or joint pain. So good progress on the 'stay active' front, not so good on regular gym visits.
When work and life slows down a bit I'm going to start working hard and go back to full BSD and regular gym, as I have another 50 lbs to go to my ideal weight. But in the meantime I just want to say to new BSD folks, hang in there, it can be done. Even if you're really really big (I was! now I'm just pretty big) and older (I'm in my 50s). I'm 80 lbs less than I was at the beginning of January and it's staying off with little effort. I'm not slim by any means, still overweight, but my quality of life is 100% better.
I'm also many many £s lighter from having to buy new bras and clothes, but that's a different story. Bras are so expensive! And my saggy upper arms are a nightmare. But these are minor issues.
Love and good wishes to you all
