Closing the kitchen on 819 cals, 33g carbs (10g fibre). I did 12k steps but no run today as it was rest day. I did some stretches and toning exercises instead.

My dinner was delicious, I could have licked the plate clean, and I feel good after 2 really strict days. It has made me realise how I may have been underestimating my calories quite a lot by using my tracker’s portion sizes and not accurately weighing things myself. As a result, I feel quite hungry tonight.

Tomorrow is my big end of January weigh in, so I’m really going to try to keep out of the kitchen cupboards tonight to preserve any weight loss I may have achieved.

Winky if it was me, although I have probably never had calories left over ever, I would probably ‘bank’ them to use later in the week. It’s probably not a good idea to do this too often, but just once should be ok. Glad your first days have gone well!

Winky I have no advice but I'm really impressed! Thought I was doing really well today (my day two as well) only for MFP to tell me I'm on 1005 calories Sad Still at least they have all been on plan calories! Got out for a walk at lunchtime today too, so it wasn't a total write off!

Jigglytuff · 30/01/2018 19:13

Quorn bolognese and konjac rice today. I'm going to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow - I've run out of the 'rice' and I'm sick of weird faux food! I'm going to make a venison casserole and have a glass of alcohol free wine with it (living the dream Grin )

winkywinkybumbum · 30/01/2018 19:25

I didnt have breakfast in the end, should have been around 150cals. Lunch was chicken salad - 116cals. Dinner was oven baked cod with tinned tomatoes, chilli and parsely as a bed in the foil parcel I made. I had that was some steamed broccoli. I had some carrots with lunch too which was 52cals and boiled egg just now at 70cals. I cheated and had a small spoon on mash off my daughter's plate and made that 150cals. That brings me to a total of 520. I definitely dont feel hungry for those extra calories. I certainly am being more mindful of eating which is very new for me. I am listening to my body more. I did notice however that once I started to eat lunch I wanted to eat whereas before I didnt feel hungry. It's almost as if it opened the floodgate.

I definitely realise i have been underestimating calories for a looong time Blush.

winkywinkybumbum · 30/01/2018 19:26

Sorry that should read dinnet cals of 232.

veryveryquietly · 30/01/2018 19:36

Yay for whooshing bear!

winky a few times the first few days I was so tired and cranky and yet not hungry I just went to bed early with 100 cals or so left. But it did make the next morning hard to go without breakfast - at first. After a a few days I got used to it, but there were some bad mornings. If you've got the extra room left, maybe have a little full fat yogurt?

londonista · 30/01/2018 19:36

Thought this chicken recipe from Jamie looked absolutely amazing as well.

On the minor victories side: today at work I sat through a 90 minute seminar in the late afternoon, and for some reason the biscuit tray had been left in front of me. And I did not take one. Even though the event was long, I was hungry, and the biscuits were RIGHT THERE.

I did, however, stop on the way home and get some extortionately priced (but very tasty) salmon because I didn't have the brain power to figure out something to cook, and knew I didn't have the willpower to wait while something thawed out. Eh, I'll call it a payday treat.

veryveryquietly · 30/01/2018 19:52

ooh londonista that looks excellent. I've been meaning to buy a grill pan...

winkywinkybumbum · 30/01/2018 20:17

Great resisting!

bridgetreilly · 30/01/2018 20:19

Yummy looking chicken! I bought a cast iron grill pan last summer when it was half price in Sainsburys and I've barely used it. I should get it out.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 30/01/2018 20:39

Jiggly I had konjac noodles today with a tuna stir fry for dinner.

Today has been a bit of a disaster from a calories pov. I'm ending the day on 1,400 cals although my carbs are only 59g.

Jigglytuff · 30/01/2018 20:57

I’ve come to the conclusion they’re fine if you pair them with real food @APlaceAtTheBSDTable. Really, the problem is that I bought two bags of frozen Quorn because they were on offer and seemed to be a good way of eating low cal but I really dislike the texture. Combined with slightly gelatinous noodles was a horrid texture too far!

Forgot to say congrats on the whoosh @thenewaveragebear1983! That’s excellent and must be so satisfying to be on the right side of 12!

londonista · 30/01/2018 20:58

Did you see on How To Lose Weight Well last night they had someone roadtesting this diet?

I'm not sure he followed it though because he was on it for 12 weeks and only lost a stone. He was about 55 though maybe it's harder when you're older?

Anyway, the tv cook they have on there, the Geordie one, was saying on this diet you absolutely must use lots of spices and flavourings as your portions aren't so big. Have been trying to get to grips with it - I'm not a natural cook!

londonista · 30/01/2018 20:59

Bridget the griddle pans are good for adding the charred "gnarley" bits (as Jamie O would call them) onto meat.

londonista · 30/01/2018 21:01

I'm trying a "boodle" stir fry tomorrow. Butternut squash spiralised. Trying hard to get enthused over it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/01/2018 08:27

Londonista I have bought those squash noodles several times and never known what to do with them, they’ve ended up in soup! I do love roasted butternut squash though, I’d be interested to hear how you get on with your squoodles/boodles.

Weighed in for my end of January total, and I’ve lost 10.5lb in total this month, which I’m really thrilled with. It’s been tough, and these last few days at absolutely 800 have been really tough, but have proven that I haven’t quite been doing it properly all the time. I have my SIL and baby nephew coming round today (we have been to a cafe the last 2 weeks but I kept ending up eating bread, so I’ve invited them here today!) - so instead of my shake I’m going to make some lentil and bacon soup. Dinner will be meatballs and homemade tomato sauce, the dc will have pasta and I will have either edamame spaghetti or just veg, depending on how many cals I have left to play with.

Have a great day everyone!

Congrats bear that's absolutely terrific! How excellent, and such a good result for the halfway point. Great plan for managing the lunch today, now you can just relax and enjoy the time.

Working at home today, so can potter around and make a proper lunch that's less carby than the aubergine salad I had for the last two days. Which was good (anything with goats cheese and roasted almonds is by definition good) but the portion size ended up being tiny, and it took half my carbs and nearly half my calories for the day. Not doing that again!

On to Week 5!

Jigglytuff · 31/01/2018 10:12

Fantastic Bear! That's really excellent progress - you must be delighted. Really shows what great results this WOE gives when you do it properly

@londonista - I can only think he wasn't doing 800 cals. I'm 53 and lost just under 2 stone in 8 weeks when I did my first 8 week stint last year.

I've now (after a very poor weekend) lost 2 1/2 pounds since restarting a couple of weeks ago. 6 pounds to go until I'm back to my September weight! I'm going to keep weighing myself from now on (I hadn't weighed for MONTHS) and only let myself gain 7lbs max. My rule when I was a thin 30 something was 3kgs max and I'm going to try and stick to that (albeit at a slightly heavier weight!)

londonista · 31/01/2018 10:20

Jiggly - WOW - that is seriously impressive.

I could do up an extra button on my coat today - mini yay!

I have a bad headache though - is that the sugar come down I wonder?

bridgetreilly · 31/01/2018 10:41

Londonista, how much did he weigh at the start? If you haven't got much weight to lose, then that will make a difference. Otherwise, portion size might be the killer.

Bad headache could well be from coming off the carbs. Keep drinking plenty and persevere. It won't last.

Also, something I've noticed is that drinking more really does help with the weight loss. When I don't drink at least 2 litres, and ideally nearer 3, I'm much less likely to see the weight go down.

yumyumpoppycat · 31/01/2018 11:03

Well done Bear that is amazing, and well done everyone on scale victories and non scale victories. I am working from home too and bought some boodles having read this thread, have had them before I think they are ok in a stir fry.

I saw the how to lose weight well thing too - looked as though he wasn't weighing his food he was guestimating - but still if he is eating better food and can maintain it that's good, it just doesn't give an accurate reflection of results the diet can give. On the flip side the woman who went from 11.4 ? to 10 stone in 2 weeks is making me very interested in her diet but that was probably not a typical result either!

Jigglytuff · 31/01/2018 11:20

To be fair @londonista - I was very overweight! And actually that’s what I lost in total after 12 weeks checking back. I hadn’t been v strict for the following 4 but had largely stuck to the principle.

londonista · 31/01/2018 11:41

YumYum

Yes that was the CSIRO diet that is currently very popular in Australia - virtually identical to the BSD, I think it's a slightly more rigid plan.
She lost so much didn't she, I was amazed.

Jiggly - honestly, I'm 46, and I'm finding as I get older me and my fat are firm friends. For the last 10 years as well, I seem also to have a "floor" in the weight loss I can achieve - 13 stone 5 pounds. I'm quite a way beyond that now, but with all my yo yo ing I've never managed to really get below that. It's more a mental thing than a physical thing.

That's what attracted me to this diet to be honest, I seem to be able mentally to manage 6-8 weeks of any kind of plan, and then I go a bit haywire. Something to work on.

I have 4 stone to lose. Hoping to lose half of it in this 8 week period. Watch this space.

veryveryquietly · 31/01/2018 12:33

londonista congrats on The Buttoning!

agree w/ bridget to drink more water. I also got a couple of vicious headaches (and other unfun issues) when I first started, I think from the combo of the drastic food reduction, the lack of carbs, and failure to drink enough water.

The first week is not much fun, but it really does get much easier after that.
