A bit of salt can help with the headaches too, (if you like bovril drink that’s often recommended)

I’ve got that how to lose weight well on the planner so I’m going to sit and watch it now.

Well done everyone! Lots of excellent results and NSVs!

Did anyone see the new advice from MM about exercise? Apparently rather than aiming for 10,000 steps, you're better aiming for three bursts of quick ten-minute walks.

winkywinkybumbum · 31/01/2018 18:14

Well done Bear!

I tried the edamame spaghetti and i wasn't keen so am just going to have my bolognese without pasta in the future. I also made the bolognese before i started this w.o.e so am not entirely sure what to put for calories which is a shame.

I also got myself some proper bathroom scales today and am going to go with 12 stone 10lbs as my starting weight as I cant imagine that I have lost anything in just the couple of days that I have beem doing this.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/01/2018 19:42

Thanks everyone.

Closing the kitchen on 811 cals, 33g carbs (11g fibre). I have done 13k steps which included a 5k run. I am absolutely shattered though, possibly because I am not getting much deep sleep at all (according to Fitbit, don’t know how reliable that is??) - last night I got a measly 6 minutes deep sleep. I wonder if this is somehow related to cutting out the carbs?

Anyhoo, I’m doing ok. February tomorrow, looking forward to what a new month can bring! I’ve set myself the challenge to run 50k in February, so 10 x 5k runs, which is doable but also fairly impressive sounding!

Third day done, felt very virtuous refusing the free chocolate brownies at my language lesson!! Still over on daily calories but eating the right sort of food so am going with it for now.

Well done on your weight loss, bear! And on your impressive ability to stick to 800 calories!

winkywinkybumbum · 31/01/2018 21:43

Can I just say I am loving this. I have never been as motivated as I am now. I think you lovely lot are definitely helping too. Just knowing there are others out there having to make the same decisions as I am and getting through each day. Apart from slight headaches I am feeling great. I have a cold too but for some reason I don't feel as groggy with it. Probably all the water I am having.

bridgetreilly · 01/02/2018 15:08

That's wonderful Winky! I had a vile cold the first week I started (and for 2 weeks after that), but somehow I still managed to stick with the diet. Lots of water is good for colds anyway. Keeps everything fluid. ;)

As of today, I have lost 17lbs. I would LOVE to hit 21lbs by Monday which is my 4 week point. Not only because a stone and a half would be amazing, but also, that would take me just under 16 stone for the first time in about 10 years. So I am going to be super strict for the next few days, with plenty of water.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/02/2018 16:21

That’s great winky, isn’t it a great feeling when it just sort of happens? I find it incredibly liberating when this plan is going well for me, because it doesn’t feel like a chore (as people expect it to).

And Bridget well done, that’s a great loss and good to have a motivator to carry you through the weekend.

I’ve done well today, but for the first time i had a really shaky, need food now kind of experience- in Morrisons with Ds. I came over all panicky and couldn’t find anything BSD friendly- in the end I bought a packet of ham and some babybel cheese which, once I was back in the car, I ate and felt better. So that’s bumped my calories over today I’d imagine.

Dinner tonight is cottage pie made with half mince/half lentils and celeriac mash. It looks amazing so it better taste good!

Bear I've had a few of those wobbles - someone gave me packet of ham tip so that's been my go-to snack. 30 cals a slice. Winner.

I've just made this for dinner with the boys. They had theirs with rice and yorkies (aunt Bessie's). Tom Kerridge is really good for very low cal "fat-boy" meals. This one was 500 cals for my portion and I have another portion in fridge for tomorrow.

londonista · 01/02/2018 18:44

Had a weird day - 90 cal protein shake blended with ice (winner - really filled me up) for brunch. Met someone in town for a coffee, wasn't hungry due to icey shake, went past my son's favourite bakery and so bought him a loaf of their sourdough that he loves (middle class kids, eh, what can you do?!). So literally all day I've had this still warm delicious smelling loaf of bread wafting up at me whenever I got something out of my backpack. Huge BSD fail. Never. Again!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/02/2018 19:08

I saw his book on the supermarket the other day, I might have a closer look. I cook a lot of Jamie Oliver stuff, the benefit of him being that he doesn’t really attempt to cut calories, he uses full fat everything. Often half a portion is enough. He does an amazing butternut squash and chicken curry which is so delicious.

Tonight I had a sort of cottage pie with celeriac mash- it came to 305 calories for half the recipe, but I could have managed on dividing it into 3, it was so filling. I am going to freeze the other part in two portions so I have 2 lots of 150 cal ready meals, ideal for a quick lunch or add something to make it a dinner.

Closing the kitchen today on 920 cals, 63g carbs (13g fibre). I did 16k steps, including a 3.5k run.

The weekend is almost upon us. we have a 40th birthday on Saturday although I have very kindly offered to drive so that means I won’t drink more than one glass of wine, plus also I can leave Dh there after a while and come home! I am so rock and roll these days!

winkywinkybumbum · 01/02/2018 19:55

Can I ask a question about your output so to speak? I've not really gone to the loo properly the past couple of days. I am drinking plenty so don't think I'm constipated. Normal?

veryveryquietly · 01/02/2018 20:18

woohoo bridget what a great loss! That is absolutely excellent! Go go go!

londonista · 01/02/2018 20:21

Bear ... very self sacrificing!! You can loudly clang pans in this morning. Encourage your youngest to practice their freestyle drumming. That's what I'm going to do!

Winky, I take a lovely-named supplement called "colon cleanse" a basically it's an aloe Vera plus probiotic tab. I swear by it! But yes, in general there is a quite dramatic change isn't there.

veryveryquietly · 01/02/2018 20:21

Today was my halfway point! So I am currently enjoying the lovely pricey candle I bought myself as a reward for completing 4 weeks of BSD, and feeling good about things so far:

Only 4 days above 1000 calories, and I think all but 4 days 50 gr carbs or below. And, aside from a polite bite of birthday cake, a polite bite of a biscuit a student gave me, and a third of a flute of prosecco, I have stuck to plan (no alcohol, no cake, no biscuits, no rice, no potatoes, no pasta, no bread, etc).

Though I did consider stealing McDonalds chips from a small child on the bus one day.

Losing weight more slowly now but still steadily. My knees have stopped hurting, I sleep much better, I'm much more active, and I have tons more energy. I've also saved a ton of money by bringing lunch rather than buying nasty stodge from the nearest cafe, and by not buying snacks on the way home on bad days or ordering in pizza etc. (Only down side, and I think this is typical for this and other low carb-ish diets, is that I am freezing cold ALL THE TIME. I shudder to think what the electric bill will be.)

I have a lot of losing yet to go, but for now I am delighting in the fact that my underwear are now baggy and need to be replaced!

londonista · 01/02/2018 20:22

So impressed... 4 weeks. If I can manage that I'll be feeling very proud.

veryveryquietly · 01/02/2018 20:50

You can do it londonista! And if one day gets messed up, it's only one day, and you can be right back on it.

I am kind of surprised myself, as I normally have the willpower of a sheet of tissue paper.

veryveryquietly · 01/02/2018 20:59

oh yes, winky, that happened to me as well, back on the last thread. Keep drinking lots of fluid. I drank lots of hot herbal tea and infusions when I couldn't face any more water. I also added a few prunes every day, and things got moving again, thank heavens.

It's such a radical change for your body, both in terms of what you're giving it and how much, I guess that it's not surprising if your output temporarily drops or stops. (But I was pretty worried too when it happened to me!) Once output starts again, it will (sorry for frankness here) probably also be a bit different and a bit less than previously. Not bad, just different.

bridgetreilly · 01/02/2018 22:13

I definitely have less coming out, but it's not particularly difficult to pass, so I haven't worried about it. Make sure you're eating plenty of veg and I have quite a lot of beans, too. And keep drinking loads.

winkywinkybumbum · 02/02/2018 07:05

Thanks everyone!

3lbs off since Wednesday! So pleased!

ElanorGamgee · 02/02/2018 07:18

I started this last week and am finding it ok. I am only eating twice a day most days (which is really all I did anyway) Lots of water. I am not hungry at all.

Sainsbury’s have got pouches of merchant gourmet lentils and quinoa on offer at the minute, one pouch is three days worth of lunch with a salad and some sort of cheese, chicken or fish for me. Really handy as I rarely get time to make lunch and can just buy this on the way in and assemble it at work, leaving the rest in the fridge.

I am hoping that my clothes fit better in a month or so! I haven’t got scales but will weigh myself at Boots when I remember.

My most successful/favourite breakfast is porridge with apple and cinnamon which I ate pre BSD. Probably at least twice the amount through!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/02/2018 07:47

Welcome Elanor, that sounds like a great start. I love those merchant gourmet lentils!! Haven’t tried them cold yet though. Be careful because one of the varieties is a blend of rice/chickpeas and something else, so you’d have to tread carefully with regards to carbs.

Weighed in again today, 11.9.0 which is the weight I got to last time I did BSD, before going off plan and gaining a lot a bit back. Total loss of 11.5lb- so technically, an angelic weekend could see me hitting a stone off by Monday. This is my motivation for being good this weekend!

I woke this morning in the midst of a dream where I had discovered my mum’s Christmas cake and was eating it slice by slice..... now, I’m no dream expert but I reckon that means something!!!

veryveryquietly · 02/02/2018 10:05

and that's quite a dream.
