Welcome X-ray!

Agree with yumyum, it’s sometimes suggested to count to 50g carbs, but I do find that if I follow the plan, stick to 800 cals and only eat the ‘allowed’ foods I rarely exceed 50g anyway.

Funny you say that about types of carbs yumyum, this week I’ve been really trying to not eat so much cheese and yoghurt, because I think they have become my ‘biscuits’ (as in, the things I nibble on that tip me over the edge!), and it’s made me realise how much lactose I have been having.

I am 100% addicted to milk Bear, less so cheese - but love cheese grilled on stuff - goes without saying! I think dairy is much harder to give up then grains - for me any way.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/03/2018 13:16

Yes, I gave up grains pretty smoothly. The thought of no cheese makes me very sad. Good job we don’t have to, eh?

In Asda they had an Easter egg made of Blacksticks cheese. I gazed longingly for a while, before realising that there were actually more calories in that than in a creme egg one....and I knew I would eat it so didn’t dare!

OP posts:
NotMeNoNo · 29/03/2018 13:30

I looked at that cheese egg too! The thing is they are non carb calories, so would it matter?

My easter treat is the Green and Blacks velvet edition, 60 cal per chocolate.

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 29/03/2018 13:42

yum thanks for asking Flowers I finally have an appointment for physio and the GP gave me different medication yesterday so fingers crossed they will both help.

veryveryquietly · 29/03/2018 19:01

That's great to hear, table - hope things click and improve soon!

OMG an 'egg' made of Blacksticks - how utterly delicious that would be. But I actually can't imagine eating the whole thing.

Have finished dinner and at about 640 calories so have room for a bit of dessert later - strawberries and greek yogurt. And maybe, when I finish marking student essays, a tiny little whisky for the holiday weekend - naturally low carb :)

Have been dancing around on the scales all week, but for past 2 days have been 1 lb off a total loss so far of 3 stone. About 12 weeks since I started weighing, and that includes about 2 weeks of Med-ish diet after the first 8 wk round of BSD. I don't want anything from the Easter Bunny this weekend; I just want him to carry away that 1 lb and make it a round 3 stone loss. Surely he can fit some of my fat in his basket...

veryveryquietly · 29/03/2018 19:02

Of course, I still have another 5-6 stone to go. Still, baby steps.

veryveryquietly · 29/03/2018 19:05

Oh yum I agree. Not missing the grains as much as I expected, but I cannot even imagine going without cheese and yogurt. Nope, not for me.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/03/2018 20:09

I’m ending my food day on 807 cals and 40g carbs- although I will be having a glass of red tonight after a stressful day. However, as it’s running day, I have a few left to play with so that’s ok. I did 15k steps including a 5.6k run (the .6 is important because that makes it 100k so far this month!!) and tomorrow I’m definitely having a rest day because I’m aching!

I had a vegetarian day today, so had avocado and cheese for lunch, and then vege/lentil chilli for dinner, with Parmesan cheese and cauliflower, and a little pot of Greek yoghurt with a kiwi fruit. I feel like I’ve had a lot of food for my calories! Meat must be quite calorie heavy I suppose.

That’s brilliant very, I’m hoping the bunny will take a few away for me too- I’m avoiding the scales (or trying to) this week although I have had a few little check-ins, but really should keep off the scales and on the straight and narrow til my 1st April weigh in!

Am I the only one who’s got an Easter egg waiting for Sunday? If so, you’re all very disciplined- I’ve had mine in the cupboard since Feb half term and have promised myself a total day off on Sunday, guilt free.

yumyumpoppycat · 29/03/2018 20:23

That sounds really promising aplace - hopefully new treatments will work Flowers

Sounds like very well planned days today Bear and Very!

The weird thing with my dairy addiction is that I am not that keen on the real stuff - I don't like my tea without milk - but I wouldn't drink a plain glass of milk, cheese on toast - yum, but a piece of stilton Envy cream - nah cream cake - yum etc Blush

I did ok today - just need to keep out of the kitchen now!

Oblomov18 · 30/03/2018 08:34

Morning everyone.
Met some mums after early school finish, to a local theme park, then go to local Harvester, as per our normal ritual.

My friend has been low carbing and lost 2 stone. I was very pleased for her. But a bit jealous. Because I haven't been doing very well. Does that sound awful, that I was jealous of her commitment and self control. I feel terrible!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2018 09:15

Morning oblomov, and everyone. No that doesn’t sound awful, it’s human nature to be a bit jealous. If she’s a good friend, would she be a ‘diet buddy’ for you?

Off out today for a day trip to Stratford upon Avon with some friends and our dc. Had a breakfast of avocado, cheese and smoked salmon to keep me going because I think lunch options on a wet bank holiday will be limited to McDonald’s or something similar, so would prefer not to be tempted.
Despite saying I wouldn’t weigh in til Sunday, I did anyway, and I’m down another little bit, to 11.0.6! So literally grams away from the 10’s- that’s massively motivated me to stay on track til Easter Sunday. I’m not calorie counting as such today but will definitely stick to the principles now. I drank 3 glasses of wine last night, and felt rotten this morning, and didn’t sleep well, so that has put me off for tonight, although Dh is in holiday mode as he has 4 days off and is already planning his feast and drinks!

veryveryquietly · 30/03/2018 15:32

I think it's totally normal and human oblomov . Don't beat your self up!

veryveryquietly · 30/03/2018 15:34

having one of those days where I'm thinking constantly about food. I want to wait a few more hours before I eat dinner, but it's going to be tough. Herbal tea only goes so far, alas.

lasttimeround · 30/03/2018 18:30

Im really new to this. Was very nervous about 800 cals a day. Seems superlow ti me. So i wanted to say that after 10 days ive suddenly adjusted and feel decently energetic all day. Skip breakfast. Snack lunch and around 3-4 pm. Dinner. Not weighing and measuring but im definitely low enough to lose weight and feel fine actually. First few days were awful but this feels worth it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2018 18:42

Last, welcome!
That’s great, once you fully adapt to burning fat and not carbs, it really is so much easier.

OP posts:
veryveryquietly · 30/03/2018 20:42

Not the best day ever (905 cals, 39 gr carbs) but could have been worse. Happy holiday weekend all.

yumyumpoppycat · 30/03/2018 20:51

Well done Very - that is a pretty perfect day especially considering you were struggling!

Welcome last!

Ooh bear the 10 somethings are so close!

Don't worry Oblomov I bet we all have had similar thoughts - I definitely have Blush

TheLegendOfBeans · 31/03/2018 09:16

I know I'm ready for this diet (I hate that word) as I felt really yakky after a rum and coke yesterday and feel like I've injected pure glucose I to my veins after one fondant fancy (I've been up.since 5, this is my elevenses)

This diet will be hard but I'm looking forward. I'm just a bit cagey about how many aubergines it involves as I'm not a big fan!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/03/2018 10:03

I know that feeling legend, I get that horrible sugary feeling and I sort of feel it in my face/sinuses???!!! It’s a horrible treacly feeling. The first few days the fat can make you feel a bit odd as well, but it soon goes and this lovely clean light feeling replaces it.

And I despise aubergines, never eat them! If you’re starting from scratch and aren’t too keep on the book recipes, i find it helps to strip your menu back a bit, and there’s absolutely no harm in having a chicken breast/ steak/piece of salmon , a portion of veg (I often use those bird eye steambags) and a ‘fat’ at each main meal so either oil, butter, cheese etc. You can make myriad combinations using those basics and especially in the first few weeks it can be really helpful. I definitely find it easier if I remove all the thinking out of it, and all the ‘options’ are all decided when I’m feeling strong and focussed and not when I’m trying to cook dinner with kids around, stressed out and hungry!

OP posts:
veryveryquietly · 31/03/2018 12:52

Thanks yum but I caved at midnight and had a snack - some squares of chocolate. Still under 1000 though, so it will do.

legend like bear I've been pretty low on the aubergine intake as well. I think you could get along with no aubergines at all. I'm told that sliced thin and roasted they can be an okay sub for lasagne noodles, but I rarely have the time or energy to do that so just don't make lasagne!

Oblomov18 · 31/03/2018 13:22

I still crave sugar daily and have been eating little bits tonnes in the last month of chocolate/Oreo mini eggs etc.

Aubergines I actually never cook. Maybe I should!

Am currently marinating chicken kebabs : soy sauce, ginger, garlic, 5 spice.

Just had an amazing salad made with these mango lime coconut chicken strips from Waitrose (well, Ocado in my case). Not cheap but frequently on special. I also reckon you could get 3 servings rather than 2 out of the package as a salad ingredient (add leaves and random veg), and it would still end up much cheaper than buying lunch at work. Yikes, I sound like an ad! But I've been in desperate need of filling lunch options to jazz up salads, which I'm getting bored with, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Minor success today at putting off eating till lunchtime (had a few roasted almonds at 11:30). I'm annoyed enough at being stuck hovering around the same numbers for the past 10 days that I'm going to try going back to a 11:30 - 19:30 eating window with two big meals, as in the past that's worked better for me. Because I've been so bored with salads, I've been in little-snacks-all-day mode at work lately: almonds, cheese, hardboiled eggs, hummus over several hours instead of a proper lunch. But it means I've been eating constantly and never been fully satisfied. So, time to mix things up and see what happens!

veryveryquietly · 31/03/2018 13:52

Oblomov please come to my house and make skewers! Those look delish. But sadly I don't have a grill. Maybe I need a grill pan? Maybe I need oblomov and other BSDers as my personal chefs Grin

Oblomov18 · 31/03/2018 14:01

On my way Very Wink

Actually I cook mine in the oven. I find the vegetables prefer it!! Grin

Actually I have eaten MM aubergines and lamb (minus the pomegranate - which I used once before and it sprayed literally all over my kitchen and thus I decided no more pomegranate for me!!) and it was completely delicious.

Maybe I should re-do.
