Not the best day: 925 cals, a good bit over my daily goal of 850.

I blame the spinach and kale falafels. Which even served with nice hummus were not worth the calories involved.

bear I have now tried the cheese 'crisps' and they are great all right!

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/03/2018 23:45

I'm a bit confused about my carbs. I'm using MFP and transferring over the 8WD recipes to the food diary seems to make the carb levels really high. Am I missing something? X

yumyumpoppycat · 15/03/2018 00:30

Flighty fingers crossed you get a whoosh soon, did it go slow for you when you did this before? Well done on chips!

Aplace have you got much left to your goal? I think it is amazing you have managed to keep your loss, that is the hardest part.

Sounds like lots of successful days to me - well done all! I haven't had a perfect BSD day at all way over on everything but still fairly happy as reasonably balanced and healthyish. Fingers crossed I haven't gone up tomorrow.

Grim, if you are eating on plan meals and around 800 calories that's all you need to worry about so long as you feel ok on it . Michael Mosley doesn't set a carb limit although obviously junk carbs are not allowed (white bread etc). I think anything under 100g of carbs a day is considered low as a standard diet would have over 200g of carbs? A high fibre diet is supposed to be useful in the long term for preventing diabetes so including beans, lentils etc is encouraged and these can be high in carbs. The low calories of this diet mean that carbs will end up being quite low anyway especially if following this in a heathy way and it is easier to follow the diet if bulking up on protein and non starchy veg rather than grains which can be less filling and raise blood sugar.

Wobblylamppost · 15/03/2018 00:39

If you want to control your sugars, also cut out milk (full fat and semi both full of sugar) and drink unsweetened Almond milk. The lactose in the milk is full of sugars. Also red meat is not good for diabetics.

Flightywoman · 15/03/2018 07:15

Thank Yumyum! Last time I lost 11lbs on week 1.

2lbs off this morning which is an improvement, and all downward shifts are good!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2018 07:16

Morning!
11.2 this morning! Getting very close to being in the tens in March!!!

Grim I agree with yumyum, don’t worry too much about grams of carbs, just avoid the foods that he advises and it will work- pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar, grains (he does use a tbsp of things like quinoa etc but it is really just such a small amount that I avoid it anyway!).
On mfp/other trackers you’ll see ‘carbs’ but that’s divided into sugars and fibre. Some low carb dieters deduct the fibre total from the carbs total (net carbs) as they are not digested. If I have a day where I eat lots of lentils or veg, my carbs are higher but also my fibre is too.

Re: milk/dairy. You don’t really need to limit dairy other than the natural limit imposed by eating 800 calories. It is fructose really that we are cutting out. I do find if I have a lot of yoghurt or eat it too early it does make me a bit carb-hungry, but honestly you can’t get much full fat yoghurt or cream for 800 cals and still have other food, so I wouldn’t worry! Not sure what others do, but I weigh out 100ml milk in the morning and use it in my coffee- 50 cals/5g carbs.

Brilliant Bear how exciting!

I had a bit of a shock on the scales this morning - 4 pounds off since Saturday. So with 10 days to go I've got 5 pounds to go to make my loss exactly 2 stone in 8 weeks.

I've already decided I'm going to stay on it for a further week, right up till Easter. We're going to France for 2 weeks after that with skinny fashionable people - which i am not dreading nearly as much as I was!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2018 08:08

London that’s a great target, totally do-able as well and a good incentive to be strict! And a fab holiday as a prize!

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 15/03/2018 08:23

yumyum I am 2 pounds over my goal. I'm struggling to lose my Christmas weight this time because I haven't been able to exercise or even walk much since I fell 6 weeks ago.
In a way it's shown me how precarious this all is. Usually I lose my Christmas weight relatively easily but I'm now thinking I will actually have to try not to overindulge over holidays because life can make it more difficult to lose afterwards.

yumyumpoppycat · 15/03/2018 09:20

Wow great losses everyone!

Aplace Flowers maybe your body needs more calories at the moment. I think it is amazing and such a success to be only be 2lbs off goal weight - lots of weight loss maintainers seem to allow 4 - 7lbs for holiday gain so you are well below that, although it is annoying when it comes off slowly afterwards. Would it be worth trying to trick your body - gradually raise up your cals for a while but log and weigh every day and see how many you can eat without gaining, then do short snap of really strict fasting style 800s to get the 2lbs off?

I got to 133 but wanted to get to 129 partly because of the number but also because I had some trousers (size 10) I couldn't fit in to. I really really wish I had just tried to maintain for a while at 133 and donated the tiny trousers to a charity shop although they are still in my drawer

APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 15/03/2018 09:35

yumyum I like the idea of upping my calories Wink I think you could be right and I need to trick/shake my body out of its pattern.
I was quite active for the last six months of 2017 so my body might have adjusted to that level of activity and is hoarding no scientific basis for this but I understand what I mean . The doctor said I could try walking in water so perhaps if I up my calories and go to the pool, I can get out of this rut. Thanks Flowers

yumyumpoppycat · 15/03/2018 09:42

Wink Fingers crossed a place - you might need more calories, early nights etc for a while to help with recovery. But definitely keep an eye on your weight and keep logging cals so the weight doesn't creep up. I got a stupid cold Blush so decided not to bother with dieting for a while and that was the start of me regaining so much.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2018 10:06

Place I think you’re doing incredibly well to maintain despite being so sedentary, and perhaps there is some science in the fact that your body is expecting you to suddenly start exercising so is ‘banking’ a bit of energy?? I imagine that an increase in calories might help, and provided the carbs stay low shouldn’t be too detrimental. Or try tipping your day round so having a big breakfast/brunch but then a really light dinner?

I will say though, 2 pounds is nothing- I know it’s a lot in terms of numerical satisfaction (!) but in real terms it’s nothing. Even slimming world and it’s ilk allow ‘target members’ to go 3lb above or below the actual target number. You could drink a pint of water and gain 2lb. Now I say this, but you know I’m all about the numbers and I completely understand the need to achieve that coveted number....but don’t be too hard on yourself. Flowers

OP posts:
APlaceAtTheBSDTable · 15/03/2018 10:09

It's hard, isn't it? It seems as though constant vigilance is needed. Flowers
I think it's because most of society is actually geared towards eating too much: with portions being too big, constant takeaway advertising, the plethora of snacks available, etc We're like warriors fighting against big businesses that want us to eat too much holds on to the image of being like Wonder Woman rather than just someone who likes cakes and crisps too much

londonista · 15/03/2018 10:10

APlace My weight loss has not at all been steady, so I've been trying to track any correlation between eating habits and weight loss/how I'm feeling.

Soon as I upped the amount of fat in my 800 cals (which someone here suggested), I noticed an instant impact on hunger - still there but not constant.

I generally try to not eat in the morning at all, but occasionally I have what I think is a blow out - where I eat 600 of my cals before lunch! - I have noticed that I'm not hungry at all during the day and evening. So I've been experimenting with time of day and evening curfews, which on paper shouldn't matter but to me it does seem to make a difference.
I should add, on the days where I have to cook dinner for the boys I don't do this - I'm a chronic picker off their plates Blush, a habit I really need to break.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2018 10:57

London i don’t know how old your boys are, mine are 5 and 2- some creative visualisation might help you to stop picking at their leftovers. I just think about how categorically disgusting and germ ridden little boys are, and there’s no way I’d nibble anything they had touched!! Paul McKenna does some really good visualisation exercises where you imagine horrible things crawling on things like cakes and biscuits to put you off eating them!

Place I totally agree about portions. There is also virtually nothing suitable if you attempt to eat out or go for coffee. Very occasionally there will be something ‘sugar free’ but it’s either full of sweeteners or made with puréed dates or raisins, or sweetened with apple juice. Even things like sachets of nuts and seeds tend to have way more than one portion in, so you think it’s 100 calories then find out it’s 250. Trying to find suitable low sugar but also actually healthy things for the dc is virtually impossible, and portions are massive. My Ds was saying how in his school dinner on Tuesdays they get 3 gingerbread biscuits in a little packet? Why do they need 3???!!!

OP posts:
londonista · 15/03/2018 16:12

Yes mine are 9 and 7 and I do generally only scoff the untouched bits but even so, not a good look!!

I ate chocolate today - first time in almost 7 weeks. Someone gave me some Hotel Chocolat chocs for my bday. I'm expecting some kind of sugar hangover!

Flightywoman · 15/03/2018 19:28

I'm closing the kitchen in 697 cals and 45g carbs.

I had a few strands of spaghetti - literally about 8 in all! - but I think I've done ok today.

And I've realised that I've been up and down stairs like a loon at work this week, so my activity level has drastically increased. Hopefully I'll get the benefit of that in the next week or so.

londonista · 15/03/2018 21:53

Good job ... I've not done so well. Chocolate, bread and 3 sausages Blush
Oh well, tomorrow is a new day!

veryveryquietly · 15/03/2018 22:03

846 calories today, and actually surprisingly low on carbs (25g) but not intentionally.

Going for coffee has always been one of my favourite things, but it is so hard now because there is absolutely nothing to eat. Everything is cake or muffins or paninis or dried fruit or like bear said made of dried dates or such. Thank heavens for almond milk cappucinos.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2018 22:04

I’ve ended up on 1400, 45g carbs. 5k run and 15k steps.

I’m playing around with my calorie intakes a bit on running days so I’ll be interested to see what the scales say in the morning after higher cals/but still under 50g carbs. I certainly feel that the increase in cals is helping; I ran really well today, and had no dragging feet or sluggishness. I didn’t graze all day, I just had bigger meals and added fat by having cheese. I think the 1400 is excessive for every day, but I’m hoping that it Won’t have done too much damage!

Hello all, can I join? I've just ordered the book and I have about a stone and a half to lose.

My question is - and I'm sure this will be in the book, I just haven't received it yet and am keen to get planning - I'm going to be trying to get pregnant again soon and am worried that dropping to such low calories will mess with my cycle...didn't know if anyone had had any experience with it doing this, or if it's all been business as usual?

Hoping the latter, as losing the weight can only be beneficial to trying to conceive and in the long run anyway - I'm 5 foot 3 and nearly 11 stone at the moment.

londonista · 16/03/2018 10:00

Hello Why

I don't know about TTC - the diet is rather extreme, as in quite a shock for the body, and I generally suffered from low energy and irritability.
It does settle down though - now I'm just a grumpy old git Grin - not sure I can 100% blame the diet.

My cycle hasn't been affected, but I'd have thought everyone was quite individual about this, so if you're worried I'd maybe do some googling and see what the consensus is.

londonista · 16/03/2018 10:04

@flightywoman how are you getting on? Did have a chuckle at the mum-tax - you've obviously never met my sons. I'd lose a finger if I tried that.

I've had long periods where I've lost nothing, which is so disheartening given how extreme the calorie restriction is, and then the next week, I've lost 6 pounds in a week, so I'm glad overall I've stuck with it. Just coming to the end of week 7 now. 23 pounds down. Come on body, we can do this! beats chest in macho fashion

Flightywoman · 16/03/2018 12:17

I'm knocked about 1.5lbs off today so it is shifting.

I'm revisiting my old MFP entries for inspiration and hitting the herbal teas and chicken bovril again.

Tomorrow I'm out with friends so I'm going to try and stay as on plan as possible - I'm driving so that takes out the booze element which is a start! And I think I'll go for steak or fish and swap any carbs for veg or salad.
