Blood sugar diet thread 7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/06/2017 13:53

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Hello I have found your thread interesting and inspiring Thank you! I have had the book for a while but it was you guys who motivated me to start proper - I had thought it would be impossible for me to cope on 800 cals - but now on day four and it turns out I was wrong it's early days but - I can do it 😊

PinkBlossomTree · 20/06/2017 12:42

Well done Phyllis 12lbs in 3 weeks is utterly AMAZING!

Hello YooHoo, you are right. YOU can do it! I'd suggest if you haven't already do your measurements now, as some of the weeks if you do find you've staid the same you will find you've lost inches. And it's great to look back over the time to see that measuring tape getting smaller.

MoominFlaps · 20/06/2017 15:39

Only day 2 and I've had an ice cream Blush

tobee · 20/06/2017 15:40

Phyllis if you're a bit bored with the food people on here have some great ideas and know of good recipe books that are suitable. Be a shame to undo your tremendous results!

tobee · 20/06/2017 15:43

Moomin days like today are made for ice cream Sad. Don't beat yourself up, it's easy to rectify on this diet. I had such a hard time when dh made buttery toast today. He was leaving early and by my routine I wasn't planning on breakfast for an hour or two. Envy

MoominFlaps · 20/06/2017 15:48

Thank you tobee. I just couldn't not! 34c here. Ah well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/06/2017 16:08

Oooooh ice cream!

I reckon if you made a 'smoothie' from yogurt, berries, milk you could freeze into ice lollies? I'm off to the kitchen!

OP posts:
MoominFlaps · 20/06/2017 17:05

I did that yesterday new but it just didn't quite hit the spot!!

yumyumpoppycat · 20/06/2017 18:48

bananas aren't strictly BSD but if you blend frozen bananas you can make ice cream with that and it is pretty nice.

Well done on getting started yoohoo!

Flightywoman · 20/06/2017 19:39

One of my friends posted about a recipe she made last week which I've just made.
minimalistbaker.com/chickpea-shawarma-salad/

I've left out the pitta chips, and made my dressing with part hummus, part plain yogurt.

It's sooooooo good! Not the lowest calories, but if you changed the dressing to totally omit the hummus it can be made lower.

Yum yum yum!

It looks like an interesting website too, lots of ideas and all nutritionally calculated.

MoominFlaps · 20/06/2017 20:24

I've done the banana thing too but let's face it nothing is a worthy substitute for ice cream Grin

Definitely gone over 800 cals today but I've stayed on plan with the rest of my food and I am still definitely way under my TDEE so hopefully haven't done too much damage. I guess the scales will tell!!

Do you all weigh yourselves every day? Is it beneficial to do this?

monkeyblonde · 20/06/2017 20:58

I'm on week 3, just. Have plateaued for the last three days and feel that my dedication is slipping a bit.... can you give me your best recipes/ideas to maximise results/minimise hunger? I feel as though sticking purely to meat and veg (and 800cal) will achieve results, trying to make meals for myself and my husband too is proving a challenge!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/06/2017 21:01

Moomin I try not to because I feel like it makes me either peed off or too cocky, and it never ends well. I try to weigh no more than twice a week, and I do notice that weighing more often correlates with not doing so well (although not sure which influences which?!).

I have not stuck to calories today but I am very low on carbs. I made some little devilled eggs at lunch which were really nice, and have just had steak, griddled asparagus, sundried tomatoes and halloumi for dinner. Delish!

Really could do with a day at 800 cals (maybe even 2!) before the weekend. I just find it hard in the heat, I think it's because I'm not doing anything, just wafting around! Have drunk gallons though, which can't be bad.

Veg chilli - with added lentils.
Squash curry - that's a big bowl for relatively low calories
Quorn korma works well for me too.

Flightywoman · 20/06/2017 21:07

Oh and I'm a daily weigher! It keeps me focused, but I know it's not for everyone.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 20/06/2017 23:25

Moomin I weighed every day when I started BSD. Now it's been over a year, I weigh about 3 times per week.

KTD27 · 21/06/2017 06:05

Wow place how is it after a year?! It's so rare to find someone who's done it past the 8 weeks never mind longer. Share your wisdom Smile

Perdyboo · 21/06/2017 06:37

Yes Place, come on!!

Well done on 12lbs and 4 inches Phillis and Flighty.
About food, I have been snacking on slices of turkey (14 cals each 0 carbs)
Mainly eating meat, eggs yoghurt. Flaxseeds with breakfast - haven't tried chia yet but ordered powdered peanut butter to try the recipe - will report back at weekend.
So far this week managed below 800 each day. Craving nuts wierdly so counted some pistachios in yesterday...
Diet doctor is good for low carb recipes and this week we are eating our way through dinners found on Pinterest if you search for bsd or low carb. Last night was slow cooked pork chops with mushrooms. Quite yum - and the kids demolished it too.
PS I never thought I'd say I miss the tweenies but youngest plays that fecking rabbit, Peter, on a loop....

Perdyboo · 21/06/2017 06:40

Flighty, do you soak your own lentils or tinned - as a side on in the chilli itself?? (Ooh the debates me and hubby have) He thinks red lentils soaked and in, I think puy tinned on the side???!!

KTD27 · 21/06/2017 07:10

Perdy thanks for the reminder about Pinterest. I used it loads when I was low carbing had totally forgotten

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/06/2017 07:37

I seem to have lost 3lb overnight, but that pretty much puts me back where I was before my weekend of sin.

KT I've been doing this over a year too, I started the day after Easter last year. I say 'doing this' - I mean wafting around on this thread and eating full fat yoghurt, and attempting some sort of maintenance. This is my 3rd proper round although I stopped round 2 halfway through as I was just failing every day. We need a maintenance plan!!!! (Michael, we know you lurk here- that was aimed at you!!)

Hoping it will be a smidgen cooler today, forecast said 31 yesterday but it's cloudy and cool right now so hopefully not. 24/25 would be just perfect! Have a great day everyone

Well done bear. 3lbs overnight Shock

I went over on calories again yesterday but carbs were low. Normally (yearly) when I do restricted diets I clear my schedule for 3 months and don't deviate from the plan.

But I will eat less today and make up for it. I'm not beating myself up about it.

Agree with bear we need a maintenance plan.

MoominFlaps · 21/06/2017 07:59

Going to be 34 here in London...unbearable.

Oblomov17 · 21/06/2017 08:05

Well done Phyllis and Flighty.

I haven't been paying much attention in the last couple of days. I have eaten pretty much what I wanted: wine, frazzles. mashed potato, ice cream, cheesecake.

Do NOT, any of you lovely lot, do this yourselves!!

But I think I needed to do this. I was aiming for that Saturday. It's like a wedding or a holiday that you are aiming for and once you get there it's probably best to relax! I lost weight I felt good/ better. I feel good about that.

I needed to treat myself to the bits I had been missing, denying myself for weeks. Months actually.

In the last 2 days I have still eaten chicken kebabs and salad, blueberries and yoghurt, as per normal.

I only normally weigh weekly, but I've weighed every day, and have maintained, since Saturday. That's good enough for me!!

I will try and lower this now, seeing as I'm at work today and tomorrow and I find that easier. I only take a lunch, I drink tonnes of water and they make me endless cups of hot water and lemon.

Good luck everyone!!

JigglyTuff · 21/06/2017 08:10

I am on day 17. Apart from 3 days, I have stuck religiously to 800 calories or under. My carbs have been 50g or less on every single one of those 14 days.

I have lost 4 pounds. Four fucking pounds.

I may as well do weightwatchers or something :(
