Blood sugar diet thread 7

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Ok, just had 3 glasses of wine (a lot for me!) and a skinny burger where I heroically Grinignored my huuuuugggge plate of fries so I'm a bit inebriated buuuttt... stop slagging yourselves off. You're all doing much better than you think!!! This is why I hate it when slim people say "eat less, move more, simple!" Because it isn't! There are many temptations; cake, alcohol, crap whatever... we've all done really well... I can tell through reading this thread... unless you're all lying, all the time. It's not easy. It's only easy for people who don't like food, don't have a problem with it, etc. You are fine. You can get back on it no problem! It's fine to feel crap about yourselves. I believe in you all!

I still have little obsessions about lemon drizzle cake, ginger pudding, strawberry scones and cream or whatever. I will go off piste occasionally etc. But I will be fine. I still deceive myself that in the future I will be able to eat whatever I like whenever. I much more admire you dealing with this struggle. Any fool could lose weight if it was easy.

tobee · 18/07/2017 00:02

I meant crap about yourselves now and again!!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 18/07/2017 07:36

tobee I am toasting your motivational speech Wine with water since it's 7.30am You are entirely right.

PhyllisWig · 18/07/2017 08:38

Totally right Tobee. This isn't easy and we're all going fucking excellently.

Bear, I hope you're ok. Be kind to yourself. Life isn't linear and putting undue stress on yourself isn't needed. Plus the cortisol reaction from stress and anxiety fights weightloss. I don't hug but if I did......

My end of week 6 weigh in and just over 2lbs off this week plus have felt up to some exercise. If I could lose 3lb in 2 weeks and finish in the 9s I'd be over the blooming moon. If I've moved past my sugary snack habit that's a much bigger result.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2017 11:58

Nothing like a slightly slurred motivational speech to rally the troops eh, tobee. Fwiw I wholeheartedly agree. I just feel a bit mopey about it!

I've been out today to get something nice to wear this weekend, as I was hoping to be slinky by now and instead am still a bit a lot squishy. The shops are full of neon, cropped, holey and asymmetric horrors, so I did my best. Will post a pic if it looks half decent!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2017 12:53

Ok.....clothes tried on (I hate shop mirrors so brought them all home!)

Some nice blue wedges/espadrilles which I'm keeping. 1st outfit is a pair of culottes and a coral tee shirt. It's quite nice on, so must retract all previous comments about culottes!

2nd is a lovely jumpsuit, was heavily reduced from £50 to £15 and it's John Rocha so it's a good make- but I'm not sure if it's wholly flattering. The trouser bit is nice, but the top is too big, it's as if they don't match up properly (even though it's all one piece!)- plus not sure I can pull off the romper suit look!

Anyone interested, our local Debenhams literally couldn't give it all away, the sale rails are full to bursting and I got really good bras etc for £6 each so might be worth a look if you need things for holidays!

bear you look great! I love the colours and you look very slim. No squishiness at all.
I know what you mean about jumpsuits. My DM bought me one and it hung in my wardrobe for about a year. Then I put it on one day, realised how comfortable it was and it's been one of my summer staples ever since. I did buy a decent belt to try to overcome the difference in fit between top and bottom.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2017 13:39

Aw thanks!
I did have a jumpsuit at Christmas and it was lovely, but I think I need to go up a size for a good fit- which means the top has to be the right shape or it just looks like a sack. I think it's quite a glam look as well, which makes me feel a bit like I'm playing dressing up in grown ups clothes! Still, it's nice to try new things- I'm often surprised. I'm terrible for wearing the same things year after year, even buying new identical items to those I already have!

JigglyTuff · 18/07/2017 13:41

You look lovely and not remotely squishy!

I'm wearing shorts! Great Plains - reduced from £50 (who in their right mind pays £50 for a pair of shorts?!) to £20. They are a really nice cut for shorts which usually look horrible on me

I feel envious! I need to give my wardrobe a good clear out but have decided to lose enough weight to have decisions made for me.

After a few slightly chaotic weeks the scales are finally showing 11st 13lbs. I feel motivated to start again. Just about her 13lbs to go then shopping. The good news is that I did not put on weight.

Oblomov17 · 18/07/2017 20:51

That outfit is amazing and you look really slim.
I had a disaster trying to buy a bikini in bravissimo today. Sad

FizzPopping · 19/07/2017 08:35

Morning all! Not a very pleasant topic to start the day but is anyone else struggling with constipation on this WOE? I'm in my 4th week and it doesn't seem to be improving. Was wondering about starting psyllium husk capsules as I've read they can help - is anyone taking them or can recommend an alternative?

Also I bought myself some new scales and I'm 2lbs heavier on them than my old ones which is rather disappointing.

JigglyTuff · 19/07/2017 13:16

I posted about that last week Fizz. I find chia and flax both help but you're not alone. I'd forgotten about psyllium - I bought some for the dog (don't ask!) so will give those a go.

I had a whoosh this morning! 6 weeks (with a few 'bad' days) = 18 lbs down.

FizzPopping · 19/07/2017 13:41

Great result Jiggly!

I must have missed your post. How do you eat the chia and flaxseed? I had read of adding them to yoghurt and fruit for breakfast but had no idea what amount! Think the psyllium husk tablets are recommended 2 before each meal which seems a lot

JigglyTuff · 19/07/2017 16:14

Thank you - I'm very pleased. I ordered some new tops in a L size and I'm having to send them back because they're too big!

I just add them to yoghurt with fruit in the morning. I usually have a dessertspoon full - ground flaxseed is higher in calories but I prefer it to chia seeds (mainly because they get stuck in my teeth! )

StormFrontage · 19/07/2017 16:22

I've been getting fit for some gynae surgery next week and mass cooked last month and yesterday for fridge / freezer and this thread has been incredibly helpful, thank you.

I had been feeling so peri-menopausal and bloated, but this kind of dietary approach has helped.

Just cutting bread out of the day time has been an eye-opener - breakfast / lunch is now eggs, cottage cheese, avocado.

I look forward to some rye bread or pasta in the evening.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/07/2017 17:08

Some anecdotal evidence online that apple cider vinegar can help with constipation, coupled with its other health benefits!

It's my birthday today so I'm not exactly on plan, went for lunch and had delicious salad, but then cake. Tonight having stuffed mushrooms, salad. And cake. Probably wine. Hmmmm. Shall report back tomorrow! ^

APlaceOnTheCouch · 19/07/2017 18:50

Happy birthday bear ! Enjoy your Cake and Wine

ellsbellls · 19/07/2017 20:36

I sympathise Fizz with the lack of 'movement.' Am in the same boat unfortunately...

Just popping on quickly to say that m&s have a few decent ready meals which are on plan. Just had a Katsu super green curry and a Spanish chorizo chicken with cauliflower rice is in fridge for tomorrow. Both around 300 cals and on a 3 for £10 offer. Not cheap but good for when you're stuck for time. The curry was pretty decent too!

JigglyTuff · 19/07/2017 21:28

Happy birthday bear! I hope you relish every mouthful Grin

Thanks for cider vinegar reminder - I have some (bought it for a recipe once) and meant to give it a whirl but forgot.

And good tip re M&S ells. I have to take back a bra I bought so I might get some of those. I love 3 for £10 (I currently have a Waitrose sirloin steak looking at me from the fridge that I got on a 3 for £10 this week but it's 550 calories Shock

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/07/2017 07:15

Thanks everyone. Birthday was lovely thanks, some really nice presents- only problem is the leftover cake, chocs etc but I am going to send a slab of chocolate cake into school with my daughter to give to her mates!

The apple vinegar is interesting, it's one of those things with a kind of catch all, cure all reputation. I have been having a tbsp in a pint of water each day which is not wholly unpleasant but equally not delicious, but it's supposed to be an appetite suppressant and help regulate blood sugars. Who knows?? X

I'm back on the BSD as I am vain and one stone above the weight that fits comfortably into all of my nice clothes! I have a goal of a stone by the end of August.

So far it hasn't been so bad. I cannot eat eggs and have to limit dairy. My meals are repetitive as it works really well for me - soy latte for breakfast, salad for lunch, another salad or salmon/chicken & steamed veg for dinner.

I've discovered spinach, feta and strawberry salad this week. Couple of big handfuls of spinach dressed with 1 tbs Olive oil, 1 teas balsamic and cracked pepper plus 100g chopped strawberries, 1 tbs flaked toasted almonds and 50g light Feta comes in at 265 calories & works well for supper. I've had it every night this week :)

FizzPopping · 20/07/2017 08:57

Glad you had a lovely birthday Bear!

Holland & Barrett were all out of the cider vinegar yesterday so that's still on my list. Psyllium husk capsules are half price just now (just in case anyone takes them) and also got some chia seeds which I added to my yoghurt this morning.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/07/2017 09:27

Fizz I got some in aldi, it has to be unpasteurised and preservative free apparently to get the best results- I think it was about £1.50!

Hi all. Closing in on week 6 here and another 2lbs down this week. Think it's 16 lbs total. Really slowed the last two weeks and to be honest I've allowed myself the odd glass of red wine so I can't be too upset with that.
Two more weeks to go until our holiday so determined to get another 6lbs off and bring my weight down to the 13's.
