Blood sugar diet thread 7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/06/2017 13:53

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Congrats to all on losses. It's obviously a good day to stand on the scales😉

I have completed my first week, and have lost 9.6lb. I'm so chuffed.

tobee · 13/07/2017 15:35

Just to add the voice of someone not had so dramatic a loss as many but I'm still finding it great. Looking at it like this:- what other diet have you done where you've lost 10 lbs in 9 weeks and felt it wasn't that much of a struggle? Can imagine sticking to it? Are enjoying the food still? Can join in with family meals with little adjustments? Can still go out occasionally and make adjustments fairly easily? Heck I thought I might not lose any at all on this diet and had some kind of metabolic problem. No! Was wrong and using it as an excuse.

tobee · 13/07/2017 15:37

Meant to say, main thing is it does not feel like a punishment like other diets have done.

ExConstance · 13/07/2017 15:52

I'm finding the losses on this diet stick. With some other diets - esp. Slimming World - my weight has been overall downwards but with those odd depressing days where you weigh a pound or two more again, I'm afraid I can't manage that and end up breaking the diet if that happens on a day when I'm feeling weak spirited.

JigglyTuff · 13/07/2017 18:27

I'm finding it pretty easy to stick to and my occasional lapses don't seem to be causing me to go astray too badly.

I actually think I am going to go beyond my losing a stone and regaining it pattern of the last few years because shifting that first stone has been pretty painless. Actually, it's been really easy and really fast. I can't think of many other diets where I would lose a stone in a month

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/07/2017 19:58

Ex gosh I lost a painstaking 3 stone at slimming world averaging about a half pound a week. It was soul destroying! Funnily enough, when I did this diet 1st time I still had about 5 weeks left on a paid countdown at sw and in those 5 weeks I was slimmer of the week every week and slimmer of the month- both for the first time ever!

My tea tonight is from diet doctors again, it's a fish and mushroom casserole which I thought sounded a bit yuck tbh but I've just tasted the sauce and it's amazing! That site is dangerous though as the calories are through the roof, I had to trim the recipe as it has 75mk doubled cream per serving - that's nearly 300 cals! I was very good at lunch, had a mushroom and cheese grill with salad at the pub and it was lovely. Had a few grazes of cheese and ham during the day as I had a meeting tonight so am eating late.

All in all, calories are maxed out but carbs very low. Good day.

Hi everyone, a newbie here, just had my first day.

I've been 5:2ing half heartedly for the past year but I feel like I want to seriously lose about 2 stone now - I measured today and at 33 and 5 9 I'm 12st 4lb, with 27.2% body fat, an 88cm waist and 106cm hips. I'm quite 'soft' all over iykwim, not good. Grin

Part of this is I'm ttc and really want to a) regulate my periods and b) be as healthy as possible.

My plan is to maintain with 5:2, if I can get down to where I want to be. Do those of you who are on maintainance find it ok?

pandarific · 13/07/2017 23:17

Oh almost forgot about food - I wasn't really prepared this am so bought two ready made protein shakes and had one for breakfast at 158 cals and 27g protein, then at lunch a ham hock salad from Aldi - Aldi do amazing salads by the way, they are actively copying Waitrose, which is great for me!

I have to say after that salad though I was still hungry, it seemed fine very quickly. About 4:30 I felt awful, knackered and with that sort of 'my brain hurts and is heavy' sort of feeling, different to a headache - does anyone else get that? I then drank the second of the protein shakes which got me through to a prawn and vegetable stir fry this evening. I probably went over on cals but pleased that I made it.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to have more fat to hopefully help with the energy levels, as I found it really tough this afternoon. Hope you all have good days tomorrow!

ellsbellls · 14/07/2017 06:12

Just checking in quickly. Managed another loss on Tuesday- 3lb gone overnight which has stayed off so far! Pleased with that.

Have struggled a bit with calories last two days. A fair bit of left over duck from pancakes disappeared into my mouth on Wednesday and yesterday had an extra half bowl of spicy lamb soup. Going to try to crack down on it today before it becomes a habit!

I am finding that I definitely manage better if I have breakfast, lunch and dinner rather than two larger meals spread over the day. I over eat at the second meal because I'm so hungry if I do the latter.

Happy Friday all!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/07/2017 06:17

Panda welcome! Those salads sound nice. It's so hard to find shop bought lunch type ones without pasta in!

Had a terrible night with ds, in fact terrible week of nights. Up 4 or 5 times last night, screaming. Finally gave up on sleeping at 5.30 and came downstairs, so it could be a very long day!

Went a bit off piste yesterday after posting last night, not even sure why! I don't have meals planned yet for today, which is also a sure fire recipe for BSD disaster!

I agree. I am struggling to find any reasonable shop bought stuff.

We have a new Aldi. But it sells hardly anything and I definitely haven't seen the Ham Hock salad!!
And all these shopbought salads seem to have pasta. Angry

I bought the Sainsbury's salad: chicken ceasar salad and quickly picked out the 3 new potatoes, and ate at speed. I can't be bothered with the kerfuffle of picking out pasta.

Come on supermarkets. Get with the programme......

CharlieSierra · 14/07/2017 07:55

I'm feeling a bit fed up and envious. I've done 6.5 weeks and although I've lost 1.5 st in total I've only lost 3 lbs in the last 2 weeks. It's just got so slow. I stuck for 5 days, was hoping for a whoosh and when it came it was only 1 lb. I have not cheated a single time, or got careless, I weigh absolutely everything I put in my mouth and if I'm under on calories I don't 'use them up' or even carry them over. I am getting impatient!

tobee · 14/07/2017 11:50

Charlie looking at your statistics you're doing really well. But if you're feeling bad emotionally then that's tricky, I think that's what people (health professionals etc) ignore too much. Those people who say things like "eat less, move more. Simple!" I've had plenty of patches with previous diets finding my whole weekend ruined by what the scale says. Hopefully you'll feel better soon. That's why this board is so useful. We've probably all felt like that.

Bear here's hoping you get some good rest this weekend. Sleep deprivation is ghastly.

CharlieSierra · 14/07/2017 12:15

It's undoubtedly the most effective diet I've done, but I'm a yo yo dieter and I'm frustrated with myself for letting myself get here again. I know 1.5 stone is good but I still can't get into trousers I was wearing this time last year and that's because I'd put on 2! Onwards and upwards though, it's in my hands; it sometimes feels hard going for a 'normal' weight loss though, which is what I'm losing currently. I do have squishy fat so fingers crossed....

tobee · 14/07/2017 12:35

I suppose that's the downside for this diet. If you lose loads some weeks you find it extra frustrating if you don't every week. So if you lose 13 lbs on week one you do a quick mental calculation. You tell yourself "be realistic, I could lose 5 lbs a week for the next seven weeks, so 35 lbs in total, brilliant!" It's easy to get ahead of yourself. You've done the same things so you expect that would be reasonable. And you're still looking to get back to that high of the first amazing loss. Maybe that was the lucky bit for me, I don't think I've lost more than 3 lbs in any week!

yumyumpoppycat · 14/07/2017 12:38

Charlie I can totally sympathise, in fact I remember you from a paleo thread. you are almost there to having that 2 stone back off, so much harder re-losing so well done!

I seem to have got my crazy eating more under control again yesterday so feeling hopeful!

And yes what is the point of salad with pasta in!!!!!!!!!!! Fake healthy.

CharlieSierra · 14/07/2017 12:48

tobee, you are so right, I have developed unrealistic expectations I guess.

yumyum the upside of giving up the flour and sugar is that I feel well again, the paleo thing really works for me and this is pretty much a calorie controlled version. I'm also using a lot of the recipes from Well Fed if they can be adapted for calories, so I had great fried chicken last night!

Flibbertyjibbit · 14/07/2017 15:14

Back on morphine, feeling rather fed up with my body. Had an off plan day again yesterday. Much better today food wise so all is not lost.

Nodding in agreement that it is hard with great losses in week one, especially when you stall for over a week.

pandarific · 14/07/2017 17:23

Oblamov maybe ask the manager if they're getting them in? They have a nice section with sandwiches and lunchy type things in mine, they're even copying the protein pots, you can get one with two hard boiled eggs and spinach, one with edamame beans.

Boots also have a pretty decent chicken Caesar salad too, if you have one by you?

FizzPopping · 15/07/2017 08:46

Morning all! Week 3 weigh in today and after a bit of a stall and moving up and down the same 1lb for a few days I've had my first woosh and have lost 3lbs. Thats 19lbs so far which I'm delighted with. I'm back to the weight I was 4 years ago, still a long way to go but finally moving in the right direction.

What's on the menu this weekend? I'm making beetroot falafel again tomorrow and going to try a jerk chicken recipe from last week's Sunday Brunch to have with salad

ellsbellls · 15/07/2017 09:01

Great news Fizz!

Am also feeling pleased. End of week 3 for me tomorrow but scales saying another 4lbs off which makes 12lb in total.

pandarific · 15/07/2017 09:36

Yesterday was my second day and was really hard. It gets easier, right? It may have been the sugar withdrawal but I was knackered, headachy and starving, and went to bed early on a Friday night!

It's not always like this... right? I feel better today but god it was hard.

ellsbellls · 15/07/2017 11:07

It definitely does get better panda. It's a massive shock to your body limiting it to 800 cals. I seem to have the odd really tough day too - but importantly, not every day.

I'm only 3 weeks in though so no expert and I'm sure others will be able to give you more advice. Keep going!!

Perdyboo · 15/07/2017 11:16

Stick with it Panda - def gets easier. You'll feel fab when the fog lifts :))
Week 7 weigh in for me. Very happy to report in at 14.7.5. The weight loss has slowed for me past two weeks but am NOT complaining because am right on target to clear another 2lbs next week and make it 2 stone off in 8 weeks. Make that grin a big cheesy one!!!
Works dinner last night, I had a starter before I skipped off to DS1's sports club function where I avoided the buffet but ate peanuts instead.
No bootcamp this morning cos hubby is sooo hungover I had to take smallest swimming, but am planning for a bike ride tomorrow instead.
Totally agree what pp have said, the big losses are good but when it slows down actually you feel so much better and I can't believe this has all happened in 7 weeks - I have done 1 bike ride and two bootcamps. All those years I paid to sit in groups, starve or eat the wrong stuff and exercise every moment. This has to has to be a new way of life!!
Fab losses everyone - and amazing to the 12cm off the waist up the thread!!!

tobee · 15/07/2017 17:38

Super tired/lacking energy. Not sure why. Maybe getting a cold. Boo. Feel hungover but not had any alcohol for days and days.
