Blood sugar diet thread 7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/06/2017 13:53

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Well today is the big day for me. My 8th weekly weigh in.

I am so happy as I've managed to loose 1 stone 9.4 lbs. I was hoping for 1 stone 7. My BMI has changed dramatically from 25.1 to 21.4

When I started BSD I never actually planned to do the full 8 weeks due to planned nights off but I managed to get through them and had 4 days off plan in 8 weeks and got back on plan the next day. I did gain, but it came off a day of two later.

It's been a real eye opener to actually count calories and look at labels and nutritional information.

I am quite nervous about being released into the big bad world but plan to continue to drop breakfast and eat within the 16:8 window and combine that with 5:2. I'm just a few pounds away from target now.

For the next few days I'm looking at increasing calories but not reintroducing carbs just yet.

I'm gonna stick around on this thread and continue to weigh in so I don't go back to old ways and pile it all back on.

This is a great thread truly inspirational and what great losses again this week.

KTD27 · 11/07/2017 07:53

Well done Phyllis and pink!! Inspirational stuff.
I finally finally got my whoosh this morning. 3 lbs off after a week of staying the same. Thank goodness!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/07/2017 08:09

Well done Phyllis and Pink, great losses! You must stick around, we need your insight on maintenance!

Well done Phyllis. I cross posted with you. That's definitely doable on this. Actually anything is possible on this.

I still stand by what I say that it is the most successful diet I've ever done by far.

Well done KTD a 3lb whoosh is great stuff.

Flibbertyjibbit · 11/07/2017 11:07

yippeeeee - I have reached my first mini goal of 10kg on week 7 day 4, now lost 10.4kg, which is a 0.5kg whoosh overnight.

Congrats on all the great losses.

JigglyTuff · 11/07/2017 12:18

Well done everyone! I have put on a pound after my weekend of all the booze so not too bad really.

I'm back on track now only I've just had a text from a friend reminding me about going to stay with her at the weekend. Would it be really rude of me to say that I'm not eating carbs? She's said they're thinking of doing a BBQ so I don't think it would be hugely inconvenient.

tobee · 11/07/2017 13:07

Jiggly I don't see why not.

Well done everybody!

Just checking, this thread is gonna stay here forever, yes?

Following this as its helping remind me of the dos and don'ts!

alem · 11/07/2017 14:03

JigglyTuff- why don't you explain what you're eating, and offer to take some steak and chicken for the bbq? Then you don't have to feel guilty.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/07/2017 16:24

Just made a satay chicken from diet doctors for tea later. I've just tasted the sauce and it is sooooo sweet, is coconut milk/cream supposed to be like that? It's sweeter than a korma- although packet says there isn't any ingredient except coconut and water.

OP posts:
JigglyTuff · 11/07/2017 16:26

Coconut is pretty sweet but maybe you've just tamed your sweetness tastebuds?

Well I texted my friend (ta for advice) and she said they are low carbing too and not to bring anything except wine :)

Oblomov17 · 11/07/2017 20:04

Well done 👍 on all the losses and the whoosh!!

Flibbertyjibbit · 11/07/2017 20:20

I'm finding things a lot sweeter than they used to be. Think its tastebuds changing like jiggly says.

Perdyboo · 11/07/2017 22:56

Well done on amazing losses!! Tastebuds deffo changing :)

Flightywoman · 12/07/2017 07:52

Went to pot Monday and Tuesday Sad

It's another new day, trying again...

PhyllisWig · 12/07/2017 08:24

Too right flighty, new day and you'll smash it.

One thing I keep meaning to post which I know won't be everyone's cup of tea is how much I'm enjoying non food treats. Over th past 5 weeks I've used the money I've saving to update my skin care, get silly nail varnish, new books etc. I haven't bought new clothes except new bras. Lots of weight has come off my boobs which were always my best feature so I've felt a bit blue about that. Have managed to track down some new and uplifting ones AND matching knickers and I've actually worn them! Silly things but I do function best with positive reinforcement so thought I'd share in case it works for others.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/07/2017 09:08

Phyllis I agree. I think new non-food treats are essential! I like to treat myself to new kitchen gadgets (only cheap things like an egg slicer!) and the money I'm making on eBay and Facebook selling my old clothes I am using for more expensive things to do up our house. My latest purchase, sounds very odd, but it's two vintage promo tea towels from the 1960's to frame in my kitchen! I haven't been buying clothes so much, partly because I have a loft full of size 10's just waiting for me, and also because I would usually buy clothes when I was feeling down or 'nothing to wear' which usually is because nothing fits or looks nice. Probably shows I am feeling more positive!

Wednesday today. Good day Monday, OK day yesterday. I find the diet doctors meals great but maaaan they are so calorific. I massively underestimated my quantities yesterday and so my evening meal was very very high. I went over by quite a few hundred cals in the end, although it was delicious. Today I'm doing a slow cooked Moroccan beef stew, so I'm really looking forward to that. Finally, finally come on as well, nearly 2 weeks late. I was getting very worried, as I am usually so regular, and Dh and I had a scary POAS day yesterday where we mentally ruled out ever going on holiday or having any time to ourselves ever again. I do wonder whether it's something to do with this diet, or just a one off, so I guess it's something to monitor.

Oblomov17 · 12/07/2017 09:20

Morning.
Phyliis, I agree, I bought 2 bra's from Bravissimo and have had a pedicure and have booked another pedicure.

I have come to the conclusion that I am 'maintaining'. I have weighed today and I haven't lost weight for the last 4-5 weeks. I am the same, exactly the same weight and have been for 4-5 weeks.

But its a bit weird what I have been doing. I have been eating very low carb, sometimes: like yesterday, I had : youghurt and blueberries, satay chicken and salad, then for dinner I had pulled pork, beef briskett and veg.

But then other times, if I fancy it, I'm having a packet of hula hoops, a glass of Red, watching Love Island.

This isn't quite good enough. Because I still have 3/4 of a stone to lose. But at least I know I can actually 'maintain'. Easily. That's quite comforting. Because a few months ago, may of us were wondering how we would actually manage, when we got there.

Well, I've found out. By accident. Not quite intentionally.

Less carb, will always be part of my life now. I will never go back to before. I couldn't, even if I tried. It's quite embedded in me now.

JigglyTuff · 12/07/2017 09:21

Oh phew - glad you've finally got your period Bear! Have been quietly anxious for you :o

Talking of bodily functions, is anyone finding this affecting their bowels? Sorry if TMI but I'm going to the loo a lot less frequently - maybe every couple of days. I guess it's because I'm not eating as much but it's slightly disconcerting. Maybe I need to drink more water.

I've had a loss today after two massively abstemious days to make up for my crap weekend. I'm back into my old jeans (and am looking at my 28 waist ones longingly!).

I have ordered a load of new clothes in the sales - I will send most of them back but I really need some nice smart clothes to wear - I've WFH for years and now I'm doing contracting where I have to go into the office on a fairly regular basis. Even if/when I can get back into my old suits, they either look very dated and really pretty scruffy.

I'm going to get my hair cut next week too. New underwear is a good idea :)

Oblomov17 · 12/07/2017 09:22

And Bear... phew!! Wink

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/07/2017 09:58

Thanks!

Oblo do you think it's just that your current weight now is your body's 'happy weight'? I have read some very interesting articles about this over the years, and have experienced it myself on all the myriad diets I have done. My body's happy weight is about 11.5, when I get to that weight i seem to stay there regardless of what I eat (within reason). We all have a natural food capacity (how we mentally judge I've had too much/not enough today) and perhaps that is naturally calibrated at our 'happy weight'. My reading on fat cells recently might also persuade me to think it might be due to our number of fat cells being at their optimum fullness x body mass/amount of fat cells (if that makes sense?) To get below it takes monumental effort - unfortunately, my mind's happy weight is about 10stone, to me that is my thin/healthy weight. You can see the problem here- it's going to be one hell of a fight to get to my mind's happy weight, and my body is always going to overrule and push me up to 11.5/11.7. In my experience it is very easy to maintain if you stop at the right weight for you, but often that optimum health/weight is not quite where we want to be. Hence lifelong struggle!!! For me, those last few pounds will have to mean shaking up the metabolism and making, or remaking, major changes. It's ultimately doable. It's great that you know you can maintain and still have the things you love/want/need- I suppose the question is whether you are prepared to sacrifice Those things again for one last push to your target weight? And also whether maintenance will be as straight forward at that new lower weight as it is now? - my apologies btw, for my ramblings/musings..... I just find this so interesting!

It's not my specialist field at all but I have seriously considered researching all this properly and writing a dissertation on it while I'm off work! I find it so interesting and it's a largely untested field, even the diet world which we think we know is constantly being turned on its head!

Oblomov17 · 12/07/2017 10:10

No, No Bear, please carry on, I find it fascinating aswell.
I was aiming for 9.5 stone, because I was always 9 stone, which is not slim, that just what I was for most of my life. My maybe 10 stone 3, is my .... new natural weight, or maybe I need to push on, to 9.5?

I'm not sure. I'll wait for your thesis!! Wink

PhyllisWig · 12/07/2017 12:30

Mine is around 11 stone which is about 10 lb over a healthy bmi. That was around what I weighed as a student/early 20s, where I got down to in my late 20s after I put on relationship weight and where I got to when I lost the 4 stone I put on a couple of years ago. I hovered around that for the last 18 months fairly easily.

I'd be totally happy to keep between 10 and 10 and a half from now on. Top end of bmi but that's ok if I eat healthily and am fit. Be interesting to see if I can make that my new set point.

PhyllisWig · 12/07/2017 12:55

And I've accidentally bought more underwear. In my defence, 2 bras, 2 knickers for 20 quid in the m&s sale. Rude not to.
