Blood sugar diet thread 7

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Shock
Nomoocluck · 02/07/2017 19:42

How is that possible flighty?!?! Shock

No movement on the scales for the 5th day running. For the first time ever I've managed to stay on plan at the weekend though there's a risk a bag of crisps may fall into my mouth later. I've even done my measurements but they haven't budged.

I'm quite worried that my body is starting to think that it only needs 800 cals a day. HmmConfused

Flightywoman · 02/07/2017 19:51

I have NO idea Nomoo! Mind you, I'm only high on calls because of the cake, I haven't actually eaten much today...

PhyllisWig · 02/07/2017 20:17

NoMoo I have that worry too! I seem to have dropped a couple of lbs this week so in two weeks of solidly eating 800 cals, only 3lbsdown in total and 1/2 an inch off my waist! That's no better result than I get on other strict diets tbh.

Really struggled today and need to see that this is working.

PinkBlossomTree · 03/07/2017 08:41

Week 7 weigh in: and 2.6lbs down

With a total of 1 stone 7.4 altogether

Really pleased with that as I was hoping to get to that by week 8.

I have issues with this week. When I started this plan I had only planned to do 4 weeks so never looked that far ahead in my diary. I will be off plan for 3 days.

My intention is to see how my weight goes and I may possibly extend this diet by another week. I don't really want to be released into the big bad world after a bad week.

So I will see how it goes and decide next Monday.

yoohooitsme · 03/07/2017 10:41

Hello Everyone. Great to hear how everyone is doing and see the food pictures I am going to copy the beetroot recipe it has inspired me.

Well my news is Saturday was the end of week two and I was 3lbs lighter making 15lbs (eeek) in two weeks. Starting weight (this diet my new way of life) was 17stone 6.

The thing is that I have previously lost hefty amounts of weight over and over with low fat diets and always put it back on again usually 6 stone each way so though I find this exciting I then think well what if I am just a permanent yoyo Hmm.

Hence I have crossed out diet and changed it to way of life as that is what it will need to be, though hopefully not limited to 800 every day forever! At least it is tasty - I got extraordinarily excited when the
Goats Cheese arrived in my Tesco delivery and it was all for meeeeeee!

SO long and good bye to low-fat diet clubs (and all the money I spent on them) Angry

DH keeps eyeing my meals with a mixture of skepticism and envy Grin

Here's to week three! Fingers crossed.

I need to come back & join you. Just about to do the supermarket order. Remind me of some good foods please!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/07/2017 12:29

I just bought this in ASda on offer (£1) and it was absolutely delicious! Lovely on a salad.

1 & 1/4lbs off this week, making total loss of 24 & 1/4lbs after 9 weeks.

I'm pleased but I want another whoosh!

Week 10, onwards...

tobee · 03/07/2017 13:21

So I did a crafty weigh in on Friday and that said that at 7 1/2 weeks I've lost a total of 9 lbs. Not a huge amount by others on here but ok for me. Kind of my projection half way in. I weighed in early because knew I was having a weekend (and today, actually) not entirely in control.

Looking back over the weeks I can say this:-

  1. I've had only 3 alcoholic drinks
  2. I have had diet drinks. This hasn't affected my sugar cravings but I know lots disapprove but it's my only naughty thing. I'm thinking of phasing it out.
  3. I haven't had any rice, pasta, potatoes or bread in 8 weeks. Or couscous or anything similar. I had a couple of bsd porridge breakfasts at the start. I'm probably not gluten free because there's stuff in soy sauce etc.
  4. I've been pretty relaxed about calories but not about carbs.
  5. I'm not hungry most of the time, I am definitely going to continue as I am for a few weeks longer at least. I might get stricter!
  6. I still don't drink enough water! It's something I really need to make myself do, I manage one day and then forget.

Anyway, before trying this w.o.e I was thinking I couldn't lose weight because of having an under active thyroid and being on beta blockers. But I gave myself a good talking to and realised I was not being honest with myself about how much I was trying.

Also, people are a bit ignorant about this diet. My mum gave me my own special plate of smoked salmon and salad yesterday as everyone else tucked into sandwiches. Then she asked if I could have strawberries and cream on scones! Oh well. It's my diet so it probably doesn't interest others so much.

Sorry for long post!Smile

ExConstance · 03/07/2017 13:35

I've lost 9lb in three weeks, so very pleased with this diet so far. I did try last year and sadly went astray after the first 8 weeks, so will try much harder this time round. I have no known health problems but I have found a few unexpected benefits despite the fact that I've really only just started.

  1. My skin is glowing, and feels very smooth.
  2. I have nearly stopped snoring.
  3. I don't fall asleep in front of the telly after dinner.
  4. I no longer have to get up in the night for a wee.
Most of the time I have plenty of energy, but I do get the odd day where I feel a bit wiped out, an early night seems to do the trick. I'm planning to do a second 8 weeks after the first if all goes well, and will probably only wean myself off it very slowly this time.
Perdyboo · 03/07/2017 19:01

Yoohoo that's amazing!! And all the recent posters actually, what an inspiring lot you are (group hug if you want but they make me uncomfortable...)
Am having quorn and lentils for dinner, but planning on smoked salmon, poached eggs and field mushrooms tomorrow - love that.
Slight eek moment that hubby has suggested dinner and drinks out on Friday night. Out together is pretty rare, so sure... but what to eat?? (To be fair am not bothered about drinking but I need to scout some menus!!!)

PhyllisWig · 03/07/2017 19:05

Bear I like those infusions pots - chilli one is my favourite. Tesco just started doing something similar.

JigglyTuff · 03/07/2017 19:26

I am one day off 4 weeks and have lost 11 lbs :) Given I have had one day of complete gluttony in that time (plus been well over calorie count on my first weekend), I'm very pleased.

More than anything, I look thinner :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/07/2017 20:24

Gone way over in calories today but all on plan. Being kind to myself about it, it's a marathon not a sprint and all that. Feeling all out of sorts at the moment, not sure why.....

Made a chicken mince meatballs recipe from the diet doctors site for dinner, and it was served in a sauce of cream, basil and tomato paste. It was absolutely delicious!

Really like that website for ideas :)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/07/2017 20:39

I don't know how I'd not discovered it before perdy but I have written my whole week's menu from it!!

Nomoocluck · 03/07/2017 20:44

I weigh the same now as I did last Tuesday. that's a full week of scale stubbornness. Was feeling really demotivated today but have managed to stay on track except for half a caramel wafer.

How? How is it that I can eat

tobee · 03/07/2017 22:38

Mmmm. Went out tonight with my sister's family for my dd b'day (again) and I was fortunate to find grilled salmon fillet with a spicy tomato sauce on the menu, and had a side order of broccoli, croutons and chilli. Jettisoned the croutons and it was very lovely and tasty. Did have gin and low cal tonic tho'. ConfusedGrin

Flightywoman · 04/07/2017 09:27

Cheat meal last night! But even with that I was 'only' 1100 cals.

This morning I've had kippers for breakfast. Yum, but I have stunk out the kitchen, and my husband is vegetarian! Luckily he's very tolerant...

FizzPopping · 04/07/2017 10:02

Morning all

I have seen mentions in the book of vinegar on this diet - does anyone take a daily 'dose' and if so what type?

ExConstance · 04/07/2017 10:07

only a dribble of balsamic on my salad.

tobee · 04/07/2017 12:56

I tried just putting vinegar of my choice on salad without calorific oil. It's ok, but not great. I just bunged it on un scientifically. Balsamic (black) is supposed to be not great carb wise which is presumably why ExConstance uses a dribble.

tobee · 04/07/2017 12:57

I love, love kippers.

FizzPopping · 04/07/2017 13:25

I also love a bit of balsamic on my salad but know it's not the best choice.

I don't think I've ever tried kippers!
