Blood sugar diet thread 7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/06/2017 13:53

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Well, I sort of fell spectacularly off the wagon a bit this evening. Less said the better.

Onwards! Tomorrow is a shiny new low carb day Grin

I am STARVING!

I've been at the Royal Norfolk Show - tasted a few bits of cheese and some sips of gin. Bought rhubarb gin!

Now I need some food - I'm thinking of a prawn omelette as it's fast, low cal and easy. But I may have to add something else.

I've walked 6 miles today so it won't be too damaging if I add some peas and a bit of cheese...

PhyllisWig · 29/06/2017 21:25

Flighty prawn omelette with peas and cheese sounds fine.

However, rhubarb gin sounds much much better. I bought a bottle for my mum at a Christmas market and though neither of us are big drinkers, it lasted about 3 days.

Fliberty, where is the nut butter from? Not for now but for maintenance - I quite often have a tiny bit of peanut butter stired into my yoghurt but the idea of a cocoa laboured one sounds immense (want to avoid it go now as it sounds like something which will make my cravings kick in)

Also, does anyone have any good bad compatible chicken casserole/curry recipes they could suggest? I got some quorn today which I don't have too often but will have a portion to use up on Saturday. I thought I could swap it in for a chicken recipe if anyone has any suggestions? I like most stuff especially spicy.

PhyllisWig · 29/06/2017 21:26

Bsd compatible. I can do bad compatible fineHmm

Flibbertyjibbit · 29/06/2017 21:51

I found it in sainsburies. I weigh out my portion of it to keep track of my portion size, 10g (about a tsp) is 66 calories and 1.5g carbs. Its this one ...

This is the turkey curry recipe I made yesterday which was really nice Phyllis:allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/23791/turkey-curry.aspx

With turkey it came in at 326 cals per person (serves 4)

JigglyTuff · 29/06/2017 21:55

Sorry - I forgot the space in front of the URL: allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/23791/turkey-curry.aspx

tobee · 29/06/2017 22:26

We're in celebratory mood here today. Nothing to do with bsd! Ds finally finished his A levels and is at his leaver's ball looking very smart in his dinner suit. Dd and I went late night shopping with dd to buy her graduation dress and presents for her 22nd birthday on Saturday. She comes with me these days to stop me getting it wrong! Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/06/2017 08:20

Meh, today I feel bleaugh. Carb overload yesterday. Yuck.

Down thread we were discussing individual portions of cheese- In asda yesterday they had individual portions of garlic butter (6 for £1) which o thought looked like a hassle free addition- could melt on steak or veg?

Hi everyone. Sorry to barge into your thread. I have just started the 800 calorie thing after a few months of low carbing but eating too many nuts and naked bars. I started Monday on 800 cals. I have had quite a few headaches etc whilst low carbing, but on this 800 cal thing I am cold, tired and today I woke up feeling like I had a terrible hangover, pounding head, nausea, shaky. I ate quarter of an apple and a few nuts in case it was low blood sugar, and took paracetamol with a cup of tea. Then I threw the lot back up. It's now 11:43, I managed to get the kids to school then went back to bed. I have eaten a couple of spoons of Greek yogurt which have stayed down. Still got a bad head at the back of my head and round my eyes, and my ears feel congested. Is this some kind of normal or abnormal reaction or a coincidental bug? I would have had to take the day off work if I was working today. Is that normal? I don't feel feverish which is why I am wondering if it's the (not) eating causing it?

Flightywoman · 30/06/2017 11:52

Hello Oldbirdy - you poor thing, that sounds horrible for you.

I don't know if it's 'carb flu' or coincidence, I didn't really get anything like those kind of side effects at all, but with the throwing up I'd wonder if it is more a bug...

Look after yourself

oldbirdy · 30/06/2017 14:51

Thanks flighty. Managed to keep a lemsip down at lunch (for the congestion, no other cold symptoms) and feel a bit better now. Ate a cadbury's cake bar, which is a shame, but I still feel like there is a connection with the very low calorie eating, maybe I didn't drink enough water.

JigglyTuff · 30/06/2017 15:00

I don't know OldBirdy but hope you feel better soon.

Am here to report a NSV - met my sister for lunch and she suddenly blurted "I didn't know whether to say anything but assume from your lunch it's deliberate (was eating sashimi, no rice) but you look amazing! You've lost loads of weight - your face has totally changed!"

Which was nice SmileSmile

FizzPopping · 30/06/2017 16:18

Thats a great NSV Jiggly I'd be so chuffed!

Sorry you're feeling so bad Oldbirdy hope you start to feel a bit better. I've found I'm drinking a lot more water since starting so maybe worth keeping an eye to make sure you have enough.

I've weighed in today after starting on Mon and am 9lbs down. I realise a lot of it will just be water/carb bloat but I'm delighted anyway!

Managing ok but realistically closer to 900 cals a day given the meals I've chosen from the book and actual MFP cals so will try to do a bit more checking in advance when planning meals for the next week.

FizzPopping · 30/06/2017 16:21

Oh I should say I've got a fair few stone to lose btw!

tobee · 30/06/2017 19:17

Great result Fizz.

Oldbirdy I felt very bad at about the stage you mention and wondered if bsd was too extreme. I felt dizzy and nauseous and spaced out and cold and apathetic. And the headaches! Sad I read up and felt it could have been carb crash/carb flu/carb withdrawal, whichever you like to decide upon. Anyway, here I am, on week 8, and happy to continue. The people on this thread have been life savers!* Smile. Yy to drinking loads of water. You should probably feel better very soon. People seem to get effected in different ways. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm due to go out for Chinese food tomorrow night for dd's birthday. Bit weird, but I'm quite excited to see how I get on. Grin

tobee · 30/06/2017 19:17

Sorry messed up with the bold font there.

Perdyboo · 30/06/2017 20:35

Hi, so happy to get to the weekend - well done on your weeks!! Weighing in tomorrow, lots of walking (at work) but don't think I have drank enough. Tobee, can't wait to see your week 8 result!!
Am off to London tomorrow but will weigh in first. Planning food is a bit Hmm - trying to pack lunch and dinner...teenage son not sharing my thoughts!! Agreed breakfast somewhere on Sunday so will hunt down coffee and eggs!!
Hope you're feeling better oldbird, good to read the NSVs. I wore a "skinny wardrobe" outfit to work today and it's too big Grin (Is still a size 18 but I couldn't get in it when I was a larger 18!!! (really a 20/22 but some shops...))

tobee · 30/06/2017 20:49

Ooh, dear, Perdy, I think it's going to be pretty underwhelming for others but I'm happy and not very hungry!

Perdyboo · 30/06/2017 22:49

But that's good! Happy is good!! :)

tobee · 30/06/2017 23:53

Tell me about it! I've been noticeably more happy recently. Didn't really realise how much my weight effects my mood.

JigglyTuff · 30/06/2017 23:57

I had a wobble this evening where I wanted to eat all the things. Thank god for that Livlife bread is all I can say - it saved me

Nomoocluck · 01/07/2017 00:28

That's a great NSV Jiggly! Have now got a craving for shashimi too.

Weight hasn't changed in 3 days now, coming to the end of week 4. Have managed to stay around the 800-900 cal mark if taking exercise into account but it's the after dinner munchies that get me. Been having fruit, nuts or yoghurt but that often tips me over the cal count.

PhyllisWig · 01/07/2017 07:27

I'm at around the same stage NoMoo. After no loss in week 3 I lost 3 lb at the start of week 4 then nothing for the next couple of days. If I carried on losing 2lb per week for the next 4 weeks I'd be happy as I'd end up under my super low target weight (really not that low but bmi 24). I'd be very surprised if that happened though and would just be happy with another 4/5 lbs which takes me a few lbs under my target.

I am chafing at the bit a little. Feeling ok, sleeping well, not too hungry but a bit lethargic and craving a bit of lard. Must be due on fairly soon I guess which probably doesn't help.

I do stress about maintenance though. I am enjoying low carb more than I expected and will certainly aim to keep it up as part of my day to day diet. But I don't want to spend my life not having Nando's/ice cream/pizza. I understand the key is to have them as exceptions rather than every day but I have a rebellious streak which I can feel itching at the back of my head. I've made a deal with myself that on the Friday after my 8th week I can get a Lardy Chinese, a doughnut and a beer to get it out of my system a bit then try to balance a fairly low cal/low carb week with a more relaxed weekend. I do want to increase the good carbs slowly after 8 weeks as I'm finding hard to feel energised enough to exercise so need to work on that balance.

But I'll get there.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/07/2017 08:00

Hi everyone,
I've had a crappy few days, eaten terribly, and feel yuck. In response to whoever up thread who said about their mood, mine definitely suffers when I fall off the wagon. I like it so much better when I'm on it and feel in control of myself.
Dh cooked last night and we didn't eat til nearly 10 as we went to see our little new nephew. He doesn't understand this w.o.e and produced a sticky toffee pud and custard which obviously I ate, on top of everything I've already had the last few days.

It's definitely hormonal with me, I am at the mercy of my hormones and always have been. One reason I wanted to do this plan was to try and stop this hormonal roller coaster every month, because I probably only get a few days each month when I don't feel ruled by my cycle in some way.

Right, I'm going to stop moping about. I'm going to a good friend's baby shower today which should be nice and I need to keep my focus so i don't go carb crazy again!
