Blood sugar diet thread 7

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/06/2017 13:53

Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Oh bad luck Bear Sad

Try again tomorrow...

PinkBlossomTree · 26/06/2017 07:34

I've not posted for a week, reading everyone's progress tho. Some AMAZING results again.

Week 6 weigh in and I've lost 1.6 lbs this week. Takes the total upto 1 stone 4.8.
I am extremely happy with that. Going very slowly now but To be expected. Still, this is by far the most successful diet I've done.

I would love to get to 1st7 by week 8 so that's my aim and I think that's achievable.

JigglyTuff · 26/06/2017 07:57

That's great Pink! I would be thrilled by that.

Bear - it's just one Mars bar. Because they've made them so much smaller, it's only 260 calories. Won't kill you :)

Oblomov17 · 26/06/2017 09:31

Morning everyone. I rebelled for most of last week. Hardly surprising.

I'm impressed with Flibberty's 6L. I need to drink more!

Flightywoman · 26/06/2017 10:10

Morning. End of wk 8 WI, and it's about 3/4lb this week which is still a downward trend but I had hoped for a bit more. Still, 23lbs altogether and that's pretty good really.

Onwards!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/06/2017 17:47

I've been very good so far today, just had such a nice dinner! Chicken wrapped in bacon, and then baked in the oven with green pepper, sun dried toms, lemon and garlic. The lemon juice and meat juices and garlic made such a delicious 'gravy'. It was really tasty.

Followed my menu plan and I'm now at 685 cals. I'm tutoring tonight so that means I have enough for a little snack this evening. Got a thumping headache today which I don't think is detox related, but it might be I guess.

Lidl had some good things in their offers today- I got tahini paste and harrisa paste in their Turkish range and also a huge bag of dried tomatoes (no oil) which I thought would be great in bolognese etc to add strong flavour without the extra calories of the oil.

So......there's been a small cake/mouth incident at the school cake sake.

But it's only 90 calories because they're really small (I made them). Sugar, of course, but the damage is limited. I hope!

tobee · 26/06/2017 18:39

Ooh cake! My inner Homer Simpson is emerging.

So, completed 7 weeks. I thought I'd kicked the cravings into the long grass?! This last weekend has been my worst so far for temptation. Just recently I was thinking of myself as a non drinker. But I really fancied a "weekend, it's summer, holiday feel" good old booze up. I also thought of a toast based breakfast as a good thing. I didn't indulge but i was very much tempted. Weigh in this morning showed no loss and no gain. True to tips on here had a good morning/early afternoon water drinking session but other things have distracted me now. Plan for the week:- more water, stricter evening meals. Hmmmm. Time will tell.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/06/2017 19:49

I had some cake yesterday. bear I have no idea how you manage to bake without eating anything. I made a cake for DH then had a slice for quality control Wink
I have a family party this week then go on holiday.I'm going to pack today or tomorrow. Time to dig out shorts and swimsuits Confused

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/06/2017 20:44

Place it's weird, I don't eat the cakes but I then do eat all sorts of everything else! Probably should just have the cake

In other news....not BSD related at all, but I became an auntie again today!!!! How exciting.

Right, I've got 116 calories to use up so I'm having some yogurt and then closing the kitchen!!

Perdyboo · 26/06/2017 21:03

Sat catching up and wondering if I can be bothered with scrambled eggs or omelette and realising I'm not hungry and I probably ought to drink - have only managed 1 litre today. How do you lot manage with so much more water getting anything done with all the toilet trips??!!

Perdyboo · 26/06/2017 21:04

And congratulations bear!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/06/2017 21:50

Awe congratulations bear and love to the new mini bear cub Flowers
I'm going to try to stick to 800cals and 50g carbs this week. Although when I say a week, I actually mean Mon to Thurs because Fri is the party and I will be drinking alcohol. Wine and Gin

Flightywoman · 26/06/2017 22:04

Congratulations Bear!

It's all gone to hell in a handcart this evening, I. Just. Can't. I have the most overwhelming urge to scour the kitchen and I am afraid I buckled.

Tomorrow is another day and I have 6 days to put it right before next WI. It'll be fine!

JigglyTuff · 26/06/2017 22:20

Congratulations Bear :)

Those sun-dried tomatoes sound great - I will have to see if I can squeeze in a Lidl visit on my working from home day ...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/06/2017 07:12

Aw thanks! Always nice to have s newborn in the family, the last two have been mine so I'm glad someone else did all the hard work this time!

Those tomatoes are nice, but wow don't eat one on its own unless you've got very strong tastebuds.

Weighed in this morning and I'm down 2lb of my weekend of sin!

Flibbertyjibbit · 27/06/2017 12:22

Congrats Bear

Day 32, I'm now at 19lbs lost in total. Bit worried about the weekend as its my first on blood sugar diet when I won't be in control of what we are eating, staying with friends for 2 nights. Silly really as I can't be in control forever.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 27/06/2017 13:04

Well done on the losses everyone!

alteredimage · 27/06/2017 14:49

I had two good weeks about two months ago, then a holiday and the chaos that surrounds a gap year DD returning home and then leaving again.

I have still be losing about a lb a week, by trying to stay away from sugar, bread (my problem) and all but a small amount of carbs. I have strict days when it suits me, and am reasonably disciplined and fairly Mediterranean when I go out (no pud!) but have been eating cherries and berries. I have tried to incorporate elements of the gut diet (a glass of very dilute cider vinegar before a meal really does help reduce cravings), and in general feel great and not hungry. One reason for the diet was I feared that tingling in my hands and feet, random pain elsewhere, and heavy exhaustion was damage caused by many years of high blood sugar levels. I now suspect it is something different (lots of tests coming up) but I do have more energy.

I seem to have been stuck on 12st 0 lbs for ever, at least 4 days, though the scale encouragingly flickers on 11st 13 before making up its mind. The good news is that my BMI is now 25 exactly, and my blouse looks good tucked into my jeans rather than being used to hide my lack of waist.

Keep up the good news stories. They are really encouraging. Some people are doing amazingly well.

FizzPopping · 27/06/2017 14:55

Hi everyone

Hope it's ok to join, I'm on day 2 and reading through these threads prior to starting has been really useful and inspiring. Some great results! I'm feeling ok so far no headaches or anything yet and focusing on drinking plenty of water. I've read the book and got my head round most of it. I've lost weight eating low carb/higher fat before so think that's helped.

I've used the recipes from the book to plan all my meals this week just to keep it simple to start with. I'm using my fitnesspal to track calories and when I enter the ingredients for breakfast it comes out about an extra 120 calories compared to the book (yoghurt with apple, mango and hazelnuts supposed to be 180 per portion). I'm a bit disappointed as that will put me over for today and way more calories than I'd want for breakfast. I thought I had around 100 left after my meals! Has anyone else found this and if so what do you go by?

Flibbertyjibbit · 27/06/2017 15:53

Hi Fizz, yes sadly the book is out on calories on a lot of meals. I go by what myfitnesspal says as I think that is more accurate.

Very happy following my last minute trip to shops this afternoon - tried on size smaller jeans and they fit!! Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/06/2017 17:05

Yes the book is waaaaaay out.
If you follow the plans in the book though and not worry about the counts, then a lot of people have still had great success. I know what you mean though, if i thought I'd saved 100 calories I would be very annoyed if they disappeared!

Evening lovelies and welcome Fizz.

Good to see all the positive focus - feeling the bsd love (is it just me who keeps thinking it's the bdsm diet?).

If anyone has Amazon prime, there are a couple of bdsm recipe books in there which may be useful. i also discovered portion controlled Camembert today - like stinky grown up dairylea. DH pointed out I was paying an extra 50p for someone else to use a knife but cheese and portion control don't compute in my mind and I'm spending so much less on treats and stuff I don't care.

End of week 3 and as suspected I've basically plateaued - I lost a lb and I suspect some of that was because I had a slightly dicky tummy! Still feel good and definitely seeing a better attitude to sugar which was a key driver for me - whilst I always save calories for pudding, it's yog and fruit and I've not been tempted by the kids cookies or sweets which is a huge thing for me.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/06/2017 21:17

Phyllis I often buy the little cheese 'selection bags' in tesco, ludicrously expensive in comparison but it's nice to have a measured little portion. We've started buying cheese slices as well for this reason, although they aren't more per kg than the block cheese equivalent (at least in asda!)

Great day for me today. 770 cals and 16g carbs, did a bit of fridge grazing and instead of just going over I recalculated my week's menu and counted my grazings as my tea! Seriously. I don't know what's happened to me, I'm a changed woman. I love that about this plan- when I'm on it properly, I am so calm around food, I can make rational decisions. I'm going to make the most of it while it lasts

I had a really tasty dinner today - I marinated salmon all day long in Waitrose frozen thai mix (coriander, lemongrass, chili, garlic and ginger) and a couple of tablespoons of soy sauce. And then cooked them with cauli rice and a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil.

Bloody lush and just under 300 cals :)

I am definitely changing shape but it's going from the top of my middle and I now have a very pronounced pot belly!

I turned down doughnuts today at work. It wasn't easy but I was pleased with myself!
