Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Thanks Perdy!

And Yoohoo, I started at 17.13.5 Confused but I've lost a stone and a half in 8 weeks. So, fist-bump. You can do it - WE can do it. We will do it!

Nomoocluck · 24/06/2017 22:10

Well done on getting through the trip Flighty, that's some impressive walking. Perdy that looks remarkably like my dinner Grin

I found some of itsu style zero noodles in Sainsburys, haven't tried them yet. Will use it for a stir fry during the week I think. I hope they are good - would be awesome to have such a low cal high fibre sub to bulk up meals.

tobee · 24/06/2017 22:59

Well done everyone on getting through the trials and tribulations of life.

I've been really tired for some reason today and for the first time in ages I fancied a drink which makes me even more certain that my love of alcohol is for the sugar content. Anyway I resisted. I drank my evening cup of coffee doors instead. Dd is 22 next weekend so probably will drink then! Smile

tobee · 24/06/2017 23:00

*early doors instead

MoominFlaps · 25/06/2017 06:18

Went massively off plan yesterday. Ah well. Today is a new day!!

Perdyboo · 25/06/2017 08:18

Yeah!!! Really sorry, lots of posts from me but you all knew so close I was going to keep checking. 14stone.13.5!!!
Must have been all the dancing watching Foo Fighters last night!! Soo need to keep this going. Bmi is 29.9 so overweight and not obese anymore!!
I know I have just squeezed into this weight and category but over the flipping moon.Grin
Good luck with all your days and yes, Moomin, new day!! Xxx

KTD27 · 25/06/2017 08:46

Nomo is it the barenaked noodles?? My advice would be to rinse them well as they have a funny smell when you first take them out. I just rinse mine and soak the mattress in water while I prep the rest. Taste just like slightly springy noodles to me!

Flightywoman · 25/06/2017 09:21

Nomoo I think they work really well in a stir fry as long as you keep the vegetables crunchy.

I had some that were a penne pasta shape. "Oh FAB!" I thought, but they aren't nice and soft like pasta so they didn't go with bolognese at all!

Last day of week 8 for me - though I am carrying on - and I have begun with some plain yogurt. Luckily after a few rounds of the Harcombe diet I am completely happy with plain yog. No idea what we're having for the rest of the day but I will be aiming for low cal/carb in preparation of tomorrow's WI!

Have good days everyone!

Nomoocluck · 25/06/2017 09:27

Thanks for the tip KTD! Yes it is.

Massive congratulations Perdy! Thats inspirational. I made banana blueberry pancakes for the family this morning and managed to restrain myself to having just one bite to test it out (new recipe). Then did 15 mins of HIIT kind of, if you ignore the toddler trying to trip me up or sit on my back. Am determined to stay on plan today to prove to myself I can do it, as I've failed on every single weekend day so far.

Nomoocluck · 25/06/2017 09:30

Thanks flighty! They are Japanese in origin so I'm thinking of looking for some Japanese style recipes as surely then they should taste 'right'?

I've got some choy sum greens in the fridge so may pair them together.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/06/2017 10:02

Great weightloss perdy!

Had this family do yesterday, managed to stay pretty much on track as there was loads of salad/meat options although they were likely loaded with calories. I had one little cupcake and a sliver of cheesecake with some fruit on. But once again it will be the wine that lets me down. I haven't dared weigh this morning, just drank a pint of water straight away as that will put me off stepping on the scales.

Planned my menu out for the week ahead and I have written the shopping list. Later on I will go on my tracker app and calorie count my whole menu and add quantities so my food prep for the week is all laid out for me and I'll know if i have any spare calories to play with.

This is the start of week 4 (I think) for me, so I really need to pick up my efforts significantly if I want to see a loss.

Hello all - congratulations Perdy, flighty and Yoohoo for great losses and thanks for coming back and filling us in on your maintenance scandicat - I read your posts on earlier threads and it's really encouraging to know that you're keeping it off.

I'm 9lbs down (decided to switch my scales from kilos to st/lbs as it's so much more encouraging :o) after nearly 3 weeks and am now back in the 12s after 2 1/2 weeks. I'm no longer obese and my blood pressure is still dropping. Hurrah! After my pity party on Wednesday, I'm sure you're all delighted :o

I've been super good all week - apart from today when I've had breakfast (tablespoon of plain yoghurt, 1/2 tbspn chia seeds and 50g of blueberries), I've only eaten between 12 and 8 and always been under 800 cals. So clearly that is the key. Sticking to a diet essential to getting the best results - who'da thunk it? Blush :o :o

And the evidence of being good all week (rather than going out on the razz at the weekend like I did in weeks one and two) speak for itself - I've lost 5 of those 9 pounds since Wednesday!

Perdy - I love those lentils from Aldi! I couldn't find them for a bit in my one and I thought they'd stopped making them but perhaps it was a blip? Will go and have a look.

Nomoocluck · 25/06/2017 11:23

So excited! This was delicious. Couldn't wait after all the above tips so stir fried with some greens and leftover baked chicken. This massive plate came to 240 cals and I'm stuffed!

Updated my spreadsheet, liking the downward trend on my graph. 8kg lost in 4 weeks! YAY!

Congrats on the losses everyone.

Well done everybody Grin
Jiggly, you've scared me - am tempted to fill my freezer draw with those lentils on case they stop selling them!!!

tobee · 25/06/2017 13:43

I'm very impressed with your chart flibberty.

Check comparison question. How much water are people necking? I keep forgetting to track my consumption. I drank loads in the hot weather. Also, does it make a difference to your personal progress?

tobee · 25/06/2017 13:43

Check? Meant quick!

PhyllisWig · 25/06/2017 14:44

Still stuck here but soldiering on through. I had a run this morning which was slow but fun.

Had a legendary dinner last night. I found some huge prawns in Iceland so made tandoori prawns and sag plus some cucumber salad and Konjac rice. This is my favourite curry takeaway and I managed to get it to taste pretty much bang on. Preferred the konjac rice to noodles but still not too fussed and post 8 weeks will switch to a small chapati or couple of spoons of brown rice. Interesting that I'm only thinking of a small portion of carbs now though not pilau rice and naan!

Flibbertyjibbit · 25/06/2017 16:13

I've discovered mini poppadums - only 9g carbs for 30g portion. Great when you need something with crunch. They are made from lentil flour so no wheat.

Sainsburies have started stocking the cocoa & hazelnut meridian butter - going to try a spoonful on some strawberries & raspberries tonight. Won't be a regular thing as it has honey in but thought its worth a try. 10g spoonful is 1.45g carbs and 66cals.

Tobee I'm drinking 3-5 litres of water a day. Due to my weight I need to drink quite a lot of water when low carbing. I've definitely noticed when I'm around the 3L mark I don't lose as much weight. During the heatwave I was consuming nearer 6L a day.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/06/2017 17:10

Tobee when I'm being good I drink loads (probably 5-6 pints a day), when I'm not so good it's not nearly as much. It definitely affects my appetite and might partly explain my not so good behaviour! I don't sip throughout the day I guzzle pints in my carlsberg glass (nicked from a pub when I was about 20!) Dh always laughs at me because I just don't even bother with little glasses of water, I need serious mls ....!

OP posts:
tobee · 25/06/2017 18:01

Ah! I probably need to up the water. Weirdly though I'm more thirsty on this diet Confused

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/06/2017 18:19

I find it makes me thirsty as well, and also that the more I drink the more I want to drink. My tip for drinking more is to always leave my glass full- so I drink it, then refill, so every time I go into the kitchen I always see my full glass and drink it rather than have to remind myself. Seems to work for me!

OP posts:
tobee · 25/06/2017 18:24

I like drinking water fortunately but constantly needing a wee? Not so much. Grin

Flightywoman · 25/06/2017 19:08

I drink more at work than at home. But I've started having a glass on the table, partly so I can take my drugs after supper.

If I'm thirsty I have a drink, and we're big tea drinkers so there's usually a few cups of that each day.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/06/2017 20:28

Gah. Fallen off wagon massively in a ten minute carb fest that's probably a whole days calories (and the rest)

I'm really going to try to not beat myself up, but maybe I should a little bit. That was bloody stupid. I was sat here writing my menu for next week eating a mars bar that i found in the fridge!!!! That's really bloody stupid.

Ho hum. Here's my menu plan anyway, all written out, calorie counted, even allowed for wine on Friday and average daily of 700 cals which gives me some wiggle room. Bring on tomorrow!
