Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit blue Phyllis I think week 3 and 4 can be a difficult time for lots of people. I'm also following the low carb bootcamp threads, it seems a lot of people don't lose weight in week 3/4. I've been gaining/losing the same kg since middle of week 3. It is really frustrating but I'm hoping for a whoosh very soon.

I have been comparing my graph to ones available online, it definitely shows that weight loss is not linear, it's hard to accept when you stick to the plan. Having such a high calorie deficit I thought it would be a much more linear trend.

Congrats on the NSV's.

yumyumpoppycat · 23/06/2017 10:16

Phyllis I have also heard week 3/4 is a dodgy one so keep going! My loss slowed down a LOT after week 2 then sped up a bit towards the end of the 8 weeks.

Flightywoman · 23/06/2017 11:30

I seem to recall I had a bit of a stall in week 3/4 Phyllis, you aren't alone. It is so frustrating though, no matter how much one understands and acknowledges that weightoss isn't linear it feels just UNFAIR when the hard work doesn't produce the results!

My scales are all over the place this morning! Fluctuating by around a stone, depending on how I stand and where on the floor I put it. Hmm Which is frustrating but means that I'm a bit more focused for the weekend instead of letting it slip a bit.

I'm going to London tomorrow for various things, some of which is going to be hard and emotional. So I need to avoid emotional eating, and all the wrong convenient things on the train home...

Today though I've had a lie-in so no breakfast which wil give me more calories for lunch and supper.

PhyllisWig · 23/06/2017 13:21

Thanks for the pep up everyone. I'm feeling and looking better so is working and I am a whoosher so patience is the name of the game. I'm going primary to treat myself to some cheap but pretty undies then the massively expensive itsu zero noodles as a treat.

Flighty, I put my scales on a bit of hardboard which whilst not pretty does help. Enjoy London

PhyllisWig · 23/06/2017 13:24

Sorry, just saw the emotional bit - sorry for being crass and not reading properly. Take it easy on yourself.

alteredimage · 23/06/2017 13:39

Good luck in London. I know the scale issue. We got Aria scales to go with my Fitbit and both immediately put on 10lbs.

It sort has worked out as I know that when I reach my (initial) target 11st I will be a lot slimmer than I would have been . (OK, I accept there is no logic there.)

My issue is that my body fat percentage went racing up last winter. Its edging down a little but still sounds very high (39%) though Google suggests this is average for an American woman my age. BMI is just over 25. Last summer they were roughly similar.

Any experts. I assume the answer is that I need to get fitter.

Flightywoman · 23/06/2017 13:40

No apology needed Phyllis.

I'm going to look up some options in advance so I have a plan and don't get ambushed.

alteredimage · 23/06/2017 13:46

As others have said, itsu is a great option. Calories are listed and their Potsu are really filling. Somehow sitting down and having "lunch" is a lot more satisfying and means you are less tempted to grab something during a mid afternoon crash.

Flibbertyjibbit · 23/06/2017 14:01

Good luck in London, Flighty.

I popped into M&S to get a few nice foody bits for over weekend - somehow my small trolley added up to £40! It is all on plan and looks rather yummy so won't need to go shopping for awhile.

Flightywoman · 23/06/2017 16:49

Thanks - I'd forgotten about Itsu, I will see if there's one near where I'm going.

I'm going to do my best to stay on track but I can't promise!

PhyllisWig · 23/06/2017 17:52

so I tried the zero carb itsu noodles (the tofu one) and it was LUSH. Definitely will have again

Perdyboo · 24/06/2017 10:35

Happy Saturday people, like Flighty I am now at midpoint. Last week was TOtm so I think I have happily bucked week 4 trend cos have weighed in today 4.5lbs lighter at 15.0!! Soooo happy - have been under 800cals all week apart from Thursday 830.
So, midway - I have lost 1stone 5.5 in 4 weeks, 3.5 inches off bum and thighs, 4 inches from waist. Bmi down from 33 to 30.1. Sitting typing this in leggings and a denim dress that I used to wear over the top of a tshirt because I couldn't fasten it Blushand now it does - with room! Am now lighter than when I got married and I haven't seen this weight this decade. In fact, I haven't seen 14stone anything since 2004. So am hoping to see that on the scales next week. Fingers crossed.
I have to be careful though - I don't want to get so happy and then undo.
I hope you get on ok in London Flighty, I'm down there the next two Saturdays and will have to plan super carefully so will be reading your survival tips carefully. Lots of love to you.
Pleased to read about your bloods Philliswig.
Tobee, my food is sooo different. Hubby was Hmm yesterday but I learnt a lesson. Aldi sell brown lentils with red pepper and tahini (more yum than it sounds). I MEASURED the serving size out with 75g of quorn. Voila!! (With a spoon of wholegrain mustard) but previously, half the bag might have gone next to something else + bread. So am learning portion sizes too. I might try another bike ride tomorrow (lots of work to do this weekend and sort of want to up exercise when I hit a plateau if that makes sense??)
Wishing you all whooshes!!!

Perdyboo · 24/06/2017 10:59

PS Altered, re body fat, I get you. When I started this mine was 45% BlushShock. After week 1 it said 39% then it went back up to 44!!! With losses since it has steadily come down to 41%, so am NOT an expert but I think it gets thrown about by water (ie week 1 fluid loss) and I hope with more losses towards my targets of 14.7, 13something and totally dreaming of 12 stone it should hopefully continue to decrease (especially since I no longer drink cappuccino, eat chocolate, crisps or MacDonalds).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/06/2017 11:28

Morning all,
Not been the greatest week for me, my meals have been good but I've not really been counting (or rather, I have, I just haven't stopped at 800!)

We have a family party today so I'm sure there will be bsd friendly options but I am also sure there will be temptations.

I'm maintaining currently- if I stick with it then I'll have an overall maintain for the week BUT if I don't then it will be a gain for the second weekend running. What's it gonna be, Bear??

I need a really good menu and a proper food shop this week, so that's tomorrow's task. I am going to guilt plan my 800 calories each day which takes ages, but it takes the guess work out as I know exactly how much to have.

Have a great Saturday!

Perdyboo · 24/06/2017 11:43

Go on Bear, you can do it. Your weight loss story is amazing. One day doesn't make a week. By the way - guilt plan??

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/06/2017 11:58

Fully plan

Although guilt plan is probably also correct......

Flibbertyjibbit · 24/06/2017 12:09

Congrats Perdy on the loss. We've made it to halfway! I finally dropped into the teens so I've now lost 8kg in total. 0.9kg off in week 4. Very happy the scales have moved downwards again! Lost 18cm off my waist in total.

I'm really hoping I can at least lose 1kg a week over the next half. Ideally 1.5kg a week would be amazing.

Happy Saturday everyone Flowers

Flibbertyjibbit · 24/06/2017 12:12

You can do it Bear!

KTD27 · 24/06/2017 12:24

We aren't about to go on holiday for a week so I'm busy planning what on earth to buy from the supermarket so we can stay on plan as much as possible!
Lots of fish I think.

Scandicat · 24/06/2017 13:40

Hello. Not posted here for ages so I wanted to check in. It's coming up to the end of June, so I've been maintaining for nearly 3 months. I've not found a consistent way of doing it, but it seems to be working. I guess I have two days a week where I'm strict, the others are hit and miss, but I still don't eat breakfast normally, and I've not reintroduced carbs into my main meals (eg still no rice, pasta, potatoes) and not much bread. I've not gained and probably lost between half and a pound a month.

Hope everyone else is doing well. This really does work, and I was really scared about maintenance but it does seem that I've changed the way I eat for the better and the effects of the 12 weeks I did on BSD are lasting.

yoohooitsme · 24/06/2017 20:58

Lovely to hear it is possible to maintain Scandicat its one of the very real worries of a seasoned yoyo dieter.

Well my news is this was the end of week one and I am now 12lbs down/7cms off waist. Starting weight (this diet Hmm) was 17stone 6.

Here's to week two! Fingers crossed.

Nomoocluck · 24/06/2017 20:59

Thanks for the inspiration scandi. May I ask a question about desserts? I love them, always had a sweet tooth and baking is a passion of mine that I've put on hold since starting the BSD. In the maintenance phase are you still avoiding all things sweet?

The other thing I struggle with is the carb content of veg. Even things like cauliflower have a fair bit of carbs in them. How do people stay below 50g and still eat enough fibre and have a varied diet?

I've gone well over 800 cals today at 1235, including a definitely not allowed pudding that I DS had been wanting to make all week. Went for a long walk this evening to try and mitigate it somewhat. Dinner was a lovely steak with sauteed vegetables, and I also made a lasagne for the family and made myself a separate one using aubergines instead of lasagne sheets. My sneaky test taste confirmed its deliciousness, so looking forward to having that for tea tomorrow. A massive portion comes to 424 cals so not too bad.

Flightywoman · 24/06/2017 21:02

well, I'm home. The hard and emotional bit was...ok. I was visiting a relative who is dying. But she was very perky and present, in spite of everything. I am going to try and see her again soon, but it might be my last time, so y'know...

And then I went to the theatre which was wonderful.

But what I didn't realise is that Itsu near places that are near predominantly work areas are BLOODY CLOSED AT THE WEEKEND! So I ended up with a salad from sainsbury's, didn't eat much of it, and a packet of chicken which I had before my train home and then I got a fish from the chippy - no chips - so I've hit 829 calories, and of course the batter is off plan, but after a that, I think I kind of earned it - I've also done 13k steps/5.8 miles and 27 fights of stairs, and have burnt around 3000 calories so I reckon I'm ok!

Flightywoman · 24/06/2017 21:11

And bugger it, I am going to have a gin! Smile

Perdyboo · 24/06/2017 21:16

Well deserved Flighty GinFlowers
Thanks for checking in Scandi, I read your posts when I read the older threads. Def good to know maintenance is achievable when you get to where you want.
And Noomoo, that's amazing!!! Congratulations. I've just had my (now regular) Saturday favourite dinner. So full, so yum!!
