Here's thread seven for the Blood Sugar Diet followers.

It's 5 weeks and 5 days until school breaks up (may vary by region!) so let's get those bodies lean for Summer!

Continuing thread for Blood Sugar Dieters:
Phase 1 lasts 2 - 8 weeks and involves restricting calories to 800 a day. Eating healthy fats is encouraged as is limiting carby foods (no specific guideline on this but some people aim for under 50g), small amounts of complex carbs are allowed but should be balanced ideally with green veg, protein and fat to lower the glycemic load and reduce the effect on blood sugar.

For me, I can see that I'll probably have to omit pasta, rice, bread and potatoes most of the time. But I think (hope!) once I'm in maintenance I might be able to have one of them every so often and not very much - a bit of toast, a potato, pasta occasionally but a measured amount. Not all at once, not on the same week.

MoominFlaps · 22/06/2017 09:29

I certainly won't be cutting out carbs forever, can't live like that and can't be doing with fannying about trying to make pizza bases out of cauliflower. I'll just make them a very small part of my diet rather than the mainstay, I can live with that.

It's cooled down here today so hopefully I can now stay more on track - I have no appetite in the heat but also seem to hugely crave carbs, dunno why.

Melon and blueberry shake from the book for breakfast - 130 cals. Prawn, radish, avocado and tomato salad for lunch - 210 cals
Dinner will be Bulgur wheat with roasted red peppers, tomatoes and feta - 300 cals

Should bring me in at 614 calories and 40g carbs IF I can stick to just that.

How cheerful is my dinner!!?? It seems a shame to eat it!

I am, once again, torturing myself as the kitchen is full of cupcakes- PTA fundraiser tomorrow night and family BBQ on Saturday so I'm mid-bake of 24 Eton mess cupcakes and 24 lemon cheesecake cupcakes. Torture!!! I'm also making potato salad for this BBQ, and so as I have something bsd friendly I'm also going to make those 'flamingo' eggs I posted the other day.

When I did LC this was my go to pizza eatfatlosefatblog.com/low-carb-holy-grail-almond-flour-pizza-crust/
Seems super similar but almond flour.

MoominFlaps · 22/06/2017 14:45

Nigella does a great low carb pizza

www.nigella.com/recipes/meatzza

The oats can be omitted if you are being very strict. It's delicious.

tobee · 22/06/2017 15:28

On the theme of cauliflower replacement (it helps if you already like cauliflower ) when I was flirting with idea of low carb a while ago I made a nachos dish with them. So just the same toppings as you would use for nachos: onions, jalapeños, tomato (or tomato salsa) cheese. But instead of using nacho chips you use thinly sliced cauliflower. Then bake in oven ad you would home made nachos. However, it is not very low calorie unless you are very careful. If done right (I've had excellent and disappointing versions) it is extremely moreish and all to easy to pig the lot. Especially if you say to the rest of the family "this ought to be mine really. I can't eat carbs snacks like you lot can!" Blush It really is more of a meal replacement than a snack. Anyway, maybe a version of this but with pizza type toppings would work?

Flightywoman · 22/06/2017 16:09

I just had a MASSIVE energy crash - shaky legs, nausea, no energy at all.

I only had my lunch a couple of hours earlier - the other half of my it's-called-pizza-but-it's-not-really-a-pizza!

Yeah, I won't be making that again, it's a faff to make and nowhere near as good as they'd have you believe! And it's not filling enough.

yumyumpoppycat · 22/06/2017 16:57

Oh my goodness new average your baking sounds delicious! And your healthy dinner looks lovely too.

wow Moomin sounds like you have a really good eating day planned - amazing what can be done on such low cals Shock

I have 100% eaten pizza since starting this last Jan - but actually nowhere near the quantity of what I would have had in the past - 2 slices max.

I am so off the wagon at the moment - feeling a bit depressed tbh partly due to recent events on the news etc, which is a bit pathetic of me. I have taken back up a couple of bad eating habits which need to be shaken off pronto. I think step 1 is no late night snacking this evening...no excuse for those shananigans and an easy enough starting point.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2017 17:42

Yumyum I have also found the recent news very unsettling, starting with the terrorist things and then the Elections, and then that awful fire. I feel like the world and everything secure in it is threatened sometimes- perhaps that's when we turn to the thing we know best (food!)

I've tried something new for dinner tonight- chicken breasts coated with yoghurt and tandoori spices and baked. I'm hoping it will be a bit hot and give my tastebuds a jangle, I've been having a lot of salad recently- and while I do actually love salad (yes, really 🐇) I find the meat and salad combo pretty repetitive. So hopefully something a bit different and spicy will do the trick.

As an aside, Dh has been having the same as me the last few weeks. Ie not adding chips to his, and he had lost several pounds even though he still eats petrol station food every lunchtime!

Thank you Moomin Flowers I've just made the meatzza for dinner, it was so yummy! Worked out at 240 calories /8 carbs for 1/4 of the meatzza. I subbed coconut flour for the breadcrumbs. Works much better than the cauliflower base I've tried before. Look forward to having another slice for lunch tomorrow!

Mmmmm mmmmmm!

Let me just clarify- when we say 'meatza' we mean a pizza base made of meat right? That sounds amazing. I am definitely doing this! Did you use mince?!

OP posts:
KTD27 · 22/06/2017 19:06

Ooh I just made an ACE dinner.
Prawn stir fry with mange tout and red pepper and the bare naked zero carb noodles.
'Twas yum. And I feel actually full!
Keep thinking I've eaten too much today and have come in at 809 calories and 32g carbs. Amazing how your brain can get used to something quickly!

Oblomov17 · 22/06/2017 19:11

Bear your dinner looks so colourful and a scrummy.

Flibbertyjibbit · 22/06/2017 19:27

Yes Bear I was going to make bolognaise but when I saw the meatzza recipe bolognaise got cancelled. I followed the recipe exactly to make the base except I used 1/2 quantites so 250g mince/1 egg etc also switched breadcumbs/oats for 2 teaspoons coconut flour, then squished it into my oven proof frying pan. I made the passata using half a tin of chopped tomatoes, 1/2 onion and 1 red pepper to make it bit more exciting. Sauted till soft then blitzed it. I used pre-grated mozarella for the top. 20 minutes in oven, you then have a super super yummy dinner!

Next time because I know there will be a next time I will add "pizza" toppings, maybe pepperoni, pepper, onion etc. Or even better a Hawaiian top once I'm finished my 8 weeks of no pineapple.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2017 19:47

Oh my. That's definitely on my menu next week.

My tandoori chicken was really tasty, might make it with thighs instead of breast if I do it again as it was a tad dry but that was from waiting til dh got home and reheating. If you're craving a curry I can highly recommend it. I feel ready now to brave the kitchen and buttercream 53 bleeping cupcakes......

The meatzza looks fab. Thanks for sharing the recipe Moomin and the pic Flibberty Flowers

MoominFlaps · 22/06/2017 20:50

Well my DM brought chocolate round so I've gone off plan Blush

Flibbertyjibbit · 22/06/2017 21:14

I was thinking of making a chicken curry with coconut milk, and serving with this naan bread.

This time tomorrow evening I will have finished day 28. A whole 4 weeks on plan, trying to think of something nice to do. DP suggested coffee & cake, any on plan suggestions?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/06/2017 21:42

Flibberty, if you want to stay on plan, I'd suggest not cake! Why not a nice breakfast somewhere?
Well done on reaching 28 days! You're halfway there!!

Some kind of other treat flipperty? A beauty treatment if you're that way inclined, a lovely walk in your favourite place, a new pair of really nice expensive pants?

alteredimage · 22/06/2017 22:36

Find a nice tapas bar and enjoy a good choice of Mediterranean diet options. Good glass of red wine and your DH can have pud.

I am a smidgen above 12st. So hoping tomorrow my weight will start with an 11 something.

I am loving the food pictures.

Flibbertyjibbit · 22/06/2017 22:50

I might go out for a coffee & a stroll around the park. I like the tapas bar idea but DP is working away for another fortnight on other side of the country so don't fancy tapas on my own. Coffee on my own is doable while I read my book and people watch Like the idea of tapas when DP is home, thanks. And maybe new pants in a couple more weeks when hopefully I might have dropped a dress size.

I've already booked myself a manicure for week 8 as we have a wedding to go to.

yumyumpoppycat · 23/06/2017 07:38

it's an eye opener to go to costa or starbucks where they put the calories next to the descriptions in the cake cabinet - one look at the calories in most of the cakes will prob put you off for sure - esp if you add in the calories in a latte or whatever.

I managed to resist late night munchies so that's a start.

PhyllisWig · 23/06/2017 07:50

My turn to feel a bit blue. Half way through week 3 and I've not lost anything this week. I am ovulating (worse than my period for symptoms and bloating since I hit 40!) so that probably not helping. I have stuck strictly to plan so hopefully a whoosh is coming my way.

A couple of nav though. My skin is clearer which I put down to all the water. I definitely look slimmer and clothes which haven't fitted for a few months are loose - closer to the 12 than the 14 these days. Also my diabetes blood test was fine.

i shall leave you to your mezza talk.....

PhyllisWig · 23/06/2017 07:51

That should be nsv
